Samsung dex is incredibly powerful but the most important part of samsung dex is the applications that you decide to use with samsung dex. In today's video i wanted to test some of the most common internet browsers and see what browser gives the best experience on samsung dex. The thing with internet browsers on samsung dex is that most internet browsers on samsung dex do a good job on basic websites. I wanted to know what internet browser is going to give the best performance on demanding websites. Some of the most demanding websites i know are websites used are things like canva, vengage and other graphic design websites. Graphic design websites are often some of the most demmanding because they are completely based on HTML and really push the limits of the internet browsers.

I'm doing it right now on a Samsung S20 FE I swiped on Ebay for 100 bucks, and I've gotta say, for the average user, and even for some prosumers (i hate that term) this is all you need. I can game using emulators, I can edit videos using a mouse and keyboard with Adobe Rush, both the front facing and rear facing cameras are 4K, and the desktop experience is very nice. All in all, to get the full samsung dex experience, I spent about 200 dollars. I implore anyone to find a computer with multiple 4K camera, 6-8 GB of ram, something equivalent to a Snapdragon 865 and an Adreno 650, all for just south of 200 bucks. As someone who has spent most of his life on frankly overpowered gaming computers, I think Samsung Dex is a real option for anybody in that average to pro consumer range and doesn't want to break the bank.

It's the sites not building them to web standards, not necessarily Firefox fault but as a user I can see why they can expect Firefox to work as well as Blink/WebKit based browsers.

This was useful, but the only the samsung browser had 1 important function that made the difference for me: The ability to hold the control button down and use the scroll wheel on my mouse, while in dex mode, to zoom in/out quickly while browsing. (A feature I use in Windows in Chrome/Edge without thinking about it.) To not have this possible on the android version makes the experience pretty much useless, for me in Dex mode. Nit picking over performance between browsers mattered very little.

I have 2 LG 27" 4K monitors and one Uperfect 15.6" 4K monitor on my desk and I use one of the LG monitors with DeX daily for work as my workplace allows personal device MDM enrollment for only iOS and Android and I've found since converting to full-time remote work, that having a backup device is indispensible. Sometimes the VPN on my work laptop goes awry or I experience some other issue because it's old and slow. Being able to use Windows and DeX side-by-side and to seamlessly switch to using DeX for work email, Teams chat, Zoom calls, etc. is so useful and because my devices are 4G/5G enabled, I can even lose my home internet connection and keep working without having to turn on hotspot. Before the pandemic, DeX was just something I used occasionally but now it has become a lifeline I don't want to give up. I agree with your assessmemt of browsers. I'm required to use Edge in my work profile, but I also use the Samsung browser and Edge Canary for all of my non-work DeX browsing neds. I used to use Kiwi, but Edge has replaced it for me. I have Firefox installed but find it most useful for traditional mobile use, not DeX. I now also have a Motorola Ready For device and the browser experience holds true there as well. DeXperts arise! :-)

I wrote this message was to Mitchell, but maybe you can share your experience as well.
For how long are you using this setup? I can imagine that your phone is charging most of the time while connected to it (and that the monitor itself is connected to power via USB).
In your opinion. Is Samsung S20 FE enough to run 4K and do basic things (or perhaps play some games)? I gave 2k on it, so I'm wondering about 4k vs fullHD (can't fins 2k OLED sadly).
      * also additionally - what about Dex and higher resolutions? Can you even project them or are you limited to fullhd by Dex itself like many others?

    • @janwhiteside5259

@@jonintrovertedpotato3866 DeX is currently limited to 2K on external monitors, at least on my devices, which are all running Android 12. Motorola Ready For on my Motorola Edge Plus 2022 runs at full 4K but will scale based on the size of the monitor. I don't play any games, but I also use my Galaxy Note 20 Ultra daily in DeX mode on a TV as my exercise video player and occasionally as a side machine (there is no SIM card in it) and even it can run multiple apps in DeX mode with no issues. But I'm not doing anything high-powered beyond playing videos and running productivity apps. I have my Moto plugged in for 8+ hours a day, but it has a battery saver feature that has learned my usage patterns and doesn't charge the phone past 80% until it thinks I'm about ready to disconnect it for the evening. Because of the 4K support, the ease of using the phone camera as a webcam (in a pinch, this is not something I use a lot), and the better battery management, it has replaced my Samsung devices as my daily mobile driver for work.

Great to see your in depth description.
For this battery charing limit feature. K wasn't aware Motorola has it, is your phone rooted by any chance? Are you using any modifications or apps letting you do this? Online all I can see is that it's achievable, but after charing your phone.
For Samsung Dex, there is a workaround with good lock/fine lock. It warns about the possibility of our phones overheating when running anything above fullHD plus still.
If it's limited to 2K. My normal res is minimally above this. Should run well, unless the constant plugged in battery/charging makes it too hot. I really would rather avoid this and just stop charging, or even not have it.
Perhaps it won't charge my phone if I connect monitor to its power source. I also connected my TV and it is connected to power obviously. Yet it not only lacking charging for my phone, but started to drain it very quickly.... So why wouldn't a touchscreen monitor do this, even if plugged to its power source?

    • @janwhiteside5259
      @janwhiteside5259 Год назад

@@jonintrovertedpotato3866 There is an “optimized charging” setting on my Motorola. It specifically says it learns your usage pattern to determine when to charge your phone past 80%. Since I generally unplug my phone around the same time each day, it’s pretty good at living into this is I don’t vary my schedule. I don’t have any special battery apps running and my phone isn’t rooted - I wouldn’t be able to connect to my work accounts if my phone was rooted. I have a couple of external portable monitors, one with a battery and one without. For the one with a battery, I can turn off charging so it won’t try to charge the phone. Driving a larger screen will drain the phone as you said, so at some point having power is just necessary.

You kinda need a phone regardless, so might as well make that your all in one device. Heck even if you need windows for work, you can probably get away with never needing anything more than dex for personal use cause those types of jobs typically provide you with a work pc.
