    Hi Kevin, I started Taoist Tai Chi a month ago here in Richmond, BC. Though the instructor gently suggested that we can not learn from a video, I am finding your tutorials and these review videos are a huge help to me. I can see the moves from so many angles and your verbal cues are terrific as I practice along with you. I think these videos are a tremendous resource and I thank you and Shelley for all the time and effort you offer in order for us to learn this helpful art.

      Hi Erin,
      Congrats on starting your Tai Chi Journey!
      I would have to admit that back when I first started instructing, I would have said pretty much the same. Over the years however, after having so many people ask if there was some sort of resource or tools to help them practice, and seeing how many people are improving and learning from our videos, I would now have to say I was wrong.
      You can learn from a video but ideally, in addition to learning from an instructor and/or attending regular classes. I have found that not everybody has the opportunity of those added benefits and yet are still able to learn and further their Tai Chi because of our videos. We do these videos to help both students and instructors and this is my way of honouring Mr. Moy's request to help others and to make the learning of his Tai Chi available to everyone. Practice diligently!
      Cheers

    Kevin, thanks for the video. You're doing a great public service by giving these tutorials for free. Although I knew the set after 15 years of practice here in Calgary, I had forgotten almost the entire set due to a 2-year pause caused by the covid restrictions, even having forgotten that we bow in the beginning. I started watching you doing the entire set almost daily and frequently did it with you. It's great to hear the cues that you give while I practice, and sometimes I turn off the sound to force me to do it by myself. I go to a community centre, where we also do foundation exercises and the Taoist Tai Chi set, and some members know of your video. By the way, we're all seniors and I plan to tell more members in our practice class of what you present on RUclips. Please keep up your efforts to preserve the gifts of Taoist Tai Chi that Master Moy gave us.

    Thank you Kevin.
    Ive found your Tai Chi moves most helpful. Having been a member of the Daoist Tai Chi Society for 12 year, since lockdown I've been practicing at home. It's good to have a review to follow to correct any bad habits that have developed. I am very disappointed with the Daoist Tai Chi society as they have taken our subscriptions for the last 9 months and offered no support at all. I will now cancel my direct debit for the coming year. Sadly I would have expected better from a society which professes good moral ethics. Anyway, thank you so much.

I have serious nonoperable back issues and have to live with meds and pain. Master Moy via your video has been great for the right shoulder blade and lower back. Thank you so much for this. I have only been going to classes for a little over a month and while I can follow my instructor, the moves are being taught in sets. Putting the sets together in the right order is still challenging. You are so easy to follow that I am learning the transitions easily. Thank you again.

      Hi 1992,
      You are very welcome. I know it can be tough as a beginner and that's one of the reasons for doing our videos as a resource. I usually tell new beginners to give themselves at least a year before they start to critique themselves because it takes about that long ( on average) to get comfortable with the sequence and remembering the moves. The more you practice, the easier it gets!

    Thank you Kevin for taking the trouble to reply. I agree with you...none of the teachers in the classes I go to have any commemt or knowledge about better benefits, except to say that Tai Chi is an ever moving art, times change and the “world counsel” (?) get together every year to review and revise the set. I do it like they do now so that I can participate in the classes I go to and not stand out or be open to correction. All the best and I shall keep watching your very excellent video.

    • @kevinwerre2700
      @kevinwerre2700 5 лет назад

      Hi Linella,
      Sorry I missed this comment. All I can say is glad that you are going to class and practicing. Understanding the Tai Chi is a long process and learning isn't always easy. I would suggest trying to stay open to correction because someone might have an objective viewpoint that could help as long as they can explain what they are seeing and what you need to work on. Also if they can clearly demonstrate what they want you to do. Mr. Moy used to say that first you need to learn it, then you need to be able to demonstrate it. As an instructor you need to be able to help someone else do it but more importantly, communicate what they are doing to promote a better understanding of what the student is working on.
      Cheers

    • @TheAwarenessWebsite
      @TheAwarenessWebsite  4 года назад

      Hi Jocelyne,
      So glad to hear the videos are helping and congrats on starting your Tai Chi journey! It can be a challenge when you just get started but hang in there and don't judge or criticize yourself for at least the first year. Practice at home and as often as possible and you will be surprised how quickly and easily you can remember the moves. But remembering the moves is not so important as understanding how the foundation exercises work the body. All the movements are based on the foundations and remembering the sequence comes with time and practice.
      Cheers

    Hi Kevin, Thank you very much for sharing this video. I think your video is the best one in all of teaching Taichi videos. Everything is perfect except for one thing I noticed was, it’s not easy to figure out which leg you are moving. Left or right? I know we can listen to your direction but while practicing it's easier for us to copy with our eyes as well, along with our ears. So I wish you could make a new video which has a white color on your left or right leg. So when you perform we can follow and learn your wonderful technique perfectly. Thanks again and hoping we could practice with your new video soon. Merry Christmas and stay safe. Sincerely

    Please consider commenting on your body structure at 13:35, and throughout the form.
    Specifically, your back is angled and your arms(in this case) are extended at such a distance, I almost feel you have off centered.
    This is an observation, from which I would like to learn.
    I know that internal structure is an important, some would say most important, focus of the form.
    Am I too wordy? Angling the back reminds me of a stretched out shaolin form like Crane. After decades, I have a lot to learn. Still trying to figure out how to stay within my sacrum, with head up, chin slightly in, weight sinking.
    Thanks.

    • @kevinwerre2700
      @kevinwerre2700 3 года назад

      Hi Houseson,
      You are correct from a traditional viewpoint, but there are many ways to approach the form. Mr. Moy had a unique background which led him to develop a different perspective on how work with the foundations and form. His Taoist understanding of the physiology and energetic aspects of the body is indicated in how we work on opening up the joints and tendons which shows in the stretching and extending of the limbs much like a Dao Yin practice.

    Hi Kevin. Thank you very much for sharing these videos. The 108 moves video has really helped me learn the moves between my weekly classes in the last four months. Now I can (mostly) remember the moves, I will move onto the Classroom Classics to fine tune the individual moves.
    Currently I go to a beginner class at my gym (in West London, UK,) which is less than ideal, as the teacher just repeats the moves for the regular new joiners. Can you suggest resources to help me find a teacher that will progress my Tai Chi?

    I have a question. I am trying to do move 4 whips to 1 side. I have duck feet so it is impossible to do pigeon toe. What can I do?

    • @kevinwerre2700
      @kevinwerre2700 2 года назад

      Hi Terry,
      Not sure what you mean by "duck feet" but I assume that your feet are splayed out (perhaps due to tightness in the lower back and hip joints)and yes, a condition like that can make it difficult to pivot as far as you would normally like to. In a case like this you do the best you can and perhaps do the pivot in two stages. The point of the pigeon toed position is to get the right foot set up at the 45 degree angle to accommodate the TorYu in the second part of the Whip to One Side, so however you need to adjust and set that up should be fine. Of course taking your time and paying attention to balance and coordinating the timing of the body and extremities. Hope this helps!
      Cheers
      Kevin
