Hi, I charge my customers on a quart HR time basis. I have a modest flat rate for all repair and then I keep track of how much time passes before work is completed (actual hands on work) on each repair, also not forgetting to add in parts that may be used. The cost per quarter hr is up to you. Figure out what will make you happy and add 10% . Most shops get around 100-150(us) per full hr
Help. I have a dell desktop computer that will not boot, shows dell logo then goes to a black screen with blinking cursor. Inside the SetUp blue screen it does not see the HardDrive. We removed the hard drive and put in in another computer, does the same thing. Will not boot. We put in a "good" hard drive into my existing computer and it shows the hard drive in the SetUp/BIOS. The "bad" hard drive does spin, it does NOT make clicking sounds, but it is rather loud, like its trying to boot. Could this method possible work just to get my pictures off of the drive??
+Ashlie Hildebrand Yes, this may work to get your data from the failing drive (80%). It is not clicking and that is a good thing. It probably has a corrupt operating system and is preventing Windows from working. Good luck and let us know.
+GuruBrew If this does not work you can try putting the hard drive in the freezer for a couple of hours and try again but often this is a one time shot.
I prefer to use a very compact unit which plugs straight into any USB port on my laptop or PC and has a plug pack for power.. It's completely stand alone and accepts both SATA or IDE drives, you simply drop them into the unit and it appears as an external drive. It cost me around $30 and it's been running for years. Much less archaic than an ex PC power supply with associated bundle of wires. The name of the unit is simply IDE/SATA Docking. Station. It's coloured Red and Black. Any decent computer outlet should stock them.
Hi Steve, If the original computer does have a virus / malware could you not effect your pc once you start the copying process. Also with copying the files back to the original pc after you have reinstalled windows would there not be the potential for the virus / malware to effect the new install? Great video thanks!
Yes it can. Another thing is the auto play, really? All that does is index the files. Always assume the HD will not make another pass other than the one ur on. Get the info off asap, then you can look for nude pics. Eta been building pc's for around 20+ years, win 3.1. My kids, all now over 30 yro, still call me for tips and tricks and howtoos.
They are little solar powered figures. My mom collects them and buys them at the dollar store in PA. Check your local dollar store to see if you can find them
I have a pc that stop working. it starts up but it won't boot. If I put a new hdd in the pc would I be able to run off the new hdd and transfer files from the old hdd to the new one and reset the old one from the same computer ?
I’ve watched a few of these videos but my situation is I have an hp laptop that won’t boot “select boot device failure”. I bought a little device to copy everything over. I can sometimes get the hard drive to start reading but gets to the end and stops. I have no problem buying a new hard drive but don’t have any of the operating system disks. Are my only options then to also purchase a new os?.
You can go to the Dell support page and enter your product service number and see if they still offer a replacement OS. If so you can purchase for a nominal fee (20 last time I did it) the ship os's on USB sticks if your product qualify (age)
I have 4 old laptop hard drives that I need to get the data and files off of them. I have watched your videos, subscribed, went to your web page, etc., I still can not get the data and files to open. What can I do? How much would you charge for this procedure and to put all the files on a thumb drive? Thank You
got a question , i bought a enclosure for hard drive of old laptop ,hooked it up to new laptop and shows hard drive but when i try to open users ,it says not responding [ old hard drive is running ] what can i do to get info off old drive ?
is it possible to just move my NVMe ssd chip to another laptop as is and boot? My other laptop crashed and im left with a slower yet reliable laptop to experiment on.
I have a 2014 dell insprion laptop and I hire it a little hard on the keyboard. So I did a hard reset and it shows the dell symbol and then says automatic repairs. After that it goes black screen. So I hit f12 and ran a diagnostic test and it shows that the hard drive isn't working. How much would you fix it for if you would even consider getting all my files off of the hard drive
Should this process work if I'm attempting to pull data off of an old laptop that was running on XP--> to a contemporary macbook. I'm just looking to pull my old photos and documents off of a dead computer. Thanks for the video!
I bought a new hard drive and an external enclosure for it. I want to install it in my HP laptop but it needs to be formatted to be bootable. When I try to format it the option to make it bootable is grayed out. I've searched all over and can't find out how to do it. Do you know how?
My Toshiba laptop crashed yesterday. It went into "System Restore" mode and that was all she wrote. Same thing as I saw in your video, just want the pictures of the hard drive.
thanks, i'll be attempting to do this setup as well only i have a hard drive that would not boot out of the splash screen, i want to recover as much data as i can. error report indicated it was a bad disk error.
I did all of that and the external hard drive showed up as "F" drive but when I went to access my info from the "user" folder where my information is held, it states that "I dont have permission" and then attempts to access that particular folder but getting "permission". Once it does this, it gets stuck here and doesn't ever retrieve permission to access it. any suggestions? Thanks
Thank you for the information. My pc goes to a pick your keyboard language screen but the mouse and keyboard are dead. I replaces the mother board but that didnt fix the problem so I will try the hard drive but I couldnt find the device you are using to recover the information off the old hard drive
Hello GuruBrew Awesome Video.I found A Gateway NE56R34U Laptop I wipe The Hard Drive Clean. And Install Windows 7 But It Goes Thru All The Activating Process ;It Goes Back To The Windows Install Activated .Any Ideals Please what Do I Need To Do To Make This Laptop Work Thank You For Your Time

Pops I need help. I have a Dell inspiron mini 10. the hard drive was corrupted and i installed a new one. issue now is that when you power on the notebook, it stays stuck on dell loading screen. what do i do?
Hi... I wanted to ask you something ... I have a 2010 Mac Book pro lap top, and i been through a situation in which turning on the computer would take so long and then when the screen pops up, that rainbow circle starts and would not stop at all.. So i took it to apple and they claim that the hard drive inside is burned out..Though the guest login from the computer works to use internet. Not my own account. Though i lost so much family photos and videos that was stored in there. Photos from when I was young until present.. Now can i retrieve those data out even though apple could not retreive them and then later tried to send me to someone else to get the data out and spend over $1,000 bucks to get them?... I didn't do of course.. but i wanted to know if its possible that the data can still be located and transferred into another computer from a mac to a PC?.. please let me know if this is possible. Thanks a lot.
hello sir, i'm using Dell inspiron 1545. Its internal harddrive was encountered with a problem explained here - When switch on my laptop, a blank screen appears and written there "Internalt for multicore processor will be disabled". I replaced that harddrive with a new, but I kept my old drive to me due to containing a huge data, videos, photos etc. Please, tell me some solution to copy data from that harddrive.
hi it is a good video.. I have a vaio aw series laptop and it has 1tb(actually 500gb 2 )in built hard disk from which on is fine but another one shows "format disk" when attached to another computer and the person who has repaired my laptop has installed the OS only on one hard disk n the other one is irreparable but I want to recover my data from it what to do?????
I've got a 6 year old Acer a lot like this one that has black blobs scattered in a few places on the screen. It's just slow and messed up period even though I've hardly used it much in all the years we've had it. And now our 6 year old Dell desktop has fried. It's been slow for awhile and hard to turn back on when we have a power outage. But this time I couldn't get it to turn back on no matter what I tried. My question is it worth taking to a computer place and how can I ensure they won't look at our private pictures and information. I noticed you scrolled part way through this guy's personal pics and that concerns me. Thank you. :)
Hi, I tried transferring to my new computer both hps. I looks like it transferred over but in the f drive there are just numbers . i am not sure what i did wrong
Yes there is a very good chance of copying a batch or exe gremlin when copying files like this in bulk. BUT there is little chance they will ever get executed again because there is nothing left to call them (modified OS triggers) and their file location will not be the same anyways, so in reality they just become orphaned and lost files.
Thank you very much, I learned a lot from your tutorials, keep up the good work. God bless. I watched a lot of tutorials about cloning hard drives but the software that you recommend seems to be the fastest, come take hours. I am planning to clone the hard drive on my lap top.
Just subscribed! Dude you are genius!!! My laptop is an old Toshiba. Is it safe to remove the hard drive and just connect it directly to an empty slot of a tower? Meaning, would that possibly work?
HI, Steve. I would really appreciate your help if you have a minute. I hooked up my damaged Toshiba laptop hard drive to another laptop, and it is showing up as E:, but I am getting an "access is denied" message. I've tried changing the ownership, but it still won't let me access it. Win 7 Home Premium on the old HD, Win 7 Pro on the secondary laptop. Thank you! :)
I've tried this method on TWO different laptop hard drives and only a few pictures show up; I've looked in every file in partition E. What am I doing wrong?
I have an external hard drive that recently started to smoke when I plugged it in. The AC power cord was cut with wire exposed which we didn't notice. I unplugged it immediately but now using a newly purchased 12v power source the WD external hard drive won't power up. Any thoughts.....
When the wire was shorted an internal fuse inside the enclosure likely broke. I would Crack it open and have a look for such a fuse likely near the power connection location
Steve, when backing up the files from the subject drive to your laptop, is there any concern with regards to remnants of the previous virus? In this example I understood that you were only asked to save the pictures which would be only JPG TIFF...etc. which I'm assuming are not suitable hosts for a virus.

Also, we really can't afford a lot of work or devices, but I really would love to recover my files & data. We used to have a person we went to that could fix anything, but he had issues & they went out of business, sadly. Thanks for doing these videos, though. :)

Hey Guru, watched your video..very good...I have 2 dead laptops and 3 dead desktops, all hp products.. They were totally dead and wouldn't even fire up anymore. So, I removed the hard drives, and am going to dump the computers. Like everybody else I want to get my junk off the hd, I looked on eBay for the device you showed you put the had in to transfer the data, didn't have a lot of luck. What am I supposed to be looking for? I saw a Sata-use cable, will that work? I want to put my stuff on an external hard drive. I am mildly electronically retarded, you think I can do this?
you can use knopixx belive me that programs is excelent to do recovey data and also you use the New USB 2.0 to IDE SATA S-ATA 2.5 3.5 HD HDD Converter Adapter Cable
Sir, you talk way too much. The video title speaks for itself. I understand why you have to show how to remove the hard drive from the affected computer. FAiL!!!
I really love the way your delivering it, purely basic

Cool, I really wanted to see what we stored on our computer from years ago!!
You find anything?
Thanx for the info, saving me ALOT of $$$. Laptop died and was going to lose the data when i sent it away.
GuruBrew, love your video! FYI, just to appear more refined, the word is not "piture" or "pitcher", but rather "pic ture" (piKchoor)
He's not refined enough for you? Do you really imagine that you're that superior? Stand back, Your Worship.
Great job! Very informative and I learned a lot!
Thanks!
Henry!

Hello, is there any way to get files from a dead android smartphone, that's not recognised by my computer?
But my problem is the hard drive not seen so how can you copy files its got to be found by the bios which it is not
Tom Gee you might have a dead hard drive in which case, your data is forever lost. You can usually hear them spin and if they do, you can still salvage the data but If they don't, it might be to late.
Couldn't you use the ez-dock station?
Thank you very help full
Have you considered working in a lighted area?
this video was very helpful. thanks
what is an estimate price to get a professional to do it?
A few hundred dollars.
Are those the German brand screwdrivers?
Great Job. Thank you.
