    Does this also work if a hard drive disk doesn't work (and or) doesn't have cables on it? My HP one used to have a cable that was connected to the motherboard. (not sure if it's dead or not but my HP wouldn't read it anymore)
    I'm trying to transfer it to my Toshiba and putting the HP hard drive manually doesn't work on it.

I'd been putting off getting my old mac G4 desktop to a recovery service to get my kids' growing-up photos; I did have them backed up but the external drive the data's on isn't available. Hi my friend, thank you for this video. My Dell laptop crapped out on me this week. I bought the SATA harddrive adapter from the link in your description today. I was able to get the hard drive out of my Dell laptop and connect it to the adapter. You said that it needs to be compatible with the device (Mac with a Mac, PC with a PC, etc.), but I still tried with my Chromebook anyway and as expected it couldn't read the files on the Harddrive. I ordered a new Acer laptop that's due to arrive tomorrow... my Dell laptop was WIndows 10, so is the Acer. My question if you read this is... since the harddrive is from a Windows 10 laptop, will it work on Acer even though it's not a Dell? If you think the answer is no, I have a windows 10 Dell desktop PC in storage... would it work on there? Thank you for your time... I know I will find this out for myself this weekend but I just don't want to have my hopes up if you already know neither will work, lol.

    What could you recommend if after attaching, my pc shows the hard drive in devices and printers but the icon appear shaded and I cant find out how to open it. Clicking the icon just opens its properties and describes it as unavailable. I am trying to access a laptop hard drive from a pc.

    Hello! Thanks for these tips. I kept getting the "no bootable" message and I took out the hard drive of my Dell laptop (it's about 8 years old not gonna ie), got an SATA cable and have connected to a new laptop (both are reg not macs) but the computer just won't recognize. There is a blue light on the cable that comes on so I know it's "on" but I hear nothing - no humming or anything...maybe not running? Still perplexed. Obviously I'm not an IT person but trying desperately to just get access to these files before I ditch the computer altogether. Thanks!

    So I have an "old" PC hard drive connected to a new one and now downloading all the files -- except -- it can't see the desktop files and folders! What am I missing?? SATA drive, PC to PC.

      Ok, so I am relieved and a little shocked to find that the Desktop files were copied over. All is well (or as well as can be expected), thanks.

    I got my drive onto another laptop, but i cant access any User files. I cant see Documents or Pictures, etc but i can see my Program files - do i have to do some sort of transfer or something more to see them? I tried it on my work laptop, that may be blocking external stuff, but it doesnt usually block my small thumb drives - so not sure where to find all those files?

      You may have to go into settings and select "Show Hidden Files and Folders"

    So that same adapter can be used for both the laptop and desktop hard drive, correct? Do you know why some folks use the enclosure case instead in the adapter?

    • @DoItYourselfDad
      @DoItYourselfDad  2 года назад +1

      They may have the enclosure case already laying around, do you have a nice thing about an enclosure case is a far drive is so good you can now use it as an extra hard drive if you have a case.

    This is a great help! I don't want my tech to see my scandal video on hard drive so I'll need to recover it to my new pc and delete it on the hard drive problem fix 😛
