Thanks for reposting and with the well deserved standing O! I'm a big fan of your mashups and this is just wonderful. Have been watching daily (on Paramount) for an regular hit of JOY!
I watch this again and again- it’s such a beautifully arranged, choreographed, and performed love letter to theatre and the people who make it happen. The best part is knowing that from you, the other writers, and Ariana it isn’t just lip service: When you recognize the swings, creative teams, front of house, orchestra (and more)- you genuinely mean it. … also, the Wicked orchestration under Hairspray was phenomenal. I’d forgotten what that theme felt like and it’s magic (like like this piece).
I've never heard of ariana debose but ive just realised that this is that deadly little charmer from the hamilton chorus. It's such a mad surreal privilege to watch someone's dream come true!
This makes me tear up every time I watch it. There’s something so powerful about bringing together multiple shows and their songs to create this masterpiece. Incredibly executed 👏
Yesss I'm so glad this is finally on RUclips in an official capacity since I don't have my paramount subscription any more. I tried to look it up a week ago and just couldn't find it, so I was thrilled to see it pop up in my subscriptions this morning lol. It's such a beautiful number! You and the whole team did an amazing job with the mash ups, orchestrations, etc. Love it so much!!! ❤️❤️
Excellence on stage!! Especially with the key change to 2:44 Hairspray - 'you can't stop the beat' while being lifted. You can feel the smooth transition tone, key notes and vibrato flow out of her mouth.
Ahhh last night was the 2023 Tony's and I'm seeing this and remembering how much I loved this when it came on last year!! Crazy how fast time flies!!! 👏🏻
I noticed her since she was signing in 54 below with rockwell. I am just so proud of her and not totally surprised that she has becoming so successful these days. So proud!
So...this number had to really grow on me. I'm not gonna lie. The first few times I watched it, it didn't do it for me. But after rewatching it multiple times, I can say that I really like it. It seemed all over the place for me, but something just clicked. Amazing performance!
You had to watch it several times to like it? I watched this mimed performance once and am ready to move on. If something doesn’t appeal to you, that’s ok.
Whenever I'm bored of continuously watching Ariana do her thang here, I instead watch the skill and entertainment of another in the emsemble who you can see on the bottom left side of the group as shown at 0:49. Just follow him through the video! And he obviously has a great friendship with Ariana too- it's adorable
I LOVE ARIANA!!! ❤ I watched this live and she was my favorite part of the Tony’s! I discovered her in “Bring It On” and she’s come so far :) she’s going places!
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I STARTED UNIVERSITY THIS YEAR AND JUST REFLECTING ON ALL MY ACCOMPLISHMENTS THAT GOT ME TO WHERE I AM 😭 THIS PERFORMANCE ENCAPSULATED ALL MY EMOTIONS AND I WAS SHATTERED WHEN THEY REMOVED IT. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK ❤️
Now, this is a mash-up! It encapsulates the last 20-30 years of music experience for the upcoming generation. We older patrons/supporters/creators need to stop bitching and find ways to connect with them as it the only way we'll be able to pass on what we've learned. I hope we haven't blown it because we have so much to offer.
A perfect blend of musicality and dance chops mixed with the perfect performance personality (say THAT 3 times!) and you’ve got an opening number that was so good, she’s getting ready to host for the 3rd time tomorrow night!!! I just love her! ❤ * Ok, back after last night’s Tony’s and I’m disappointed. Not with her per se but there wasn’t much of an opening number. Oh well…
not gonna lie i only really found about her through the “Angela Basset did tha thing.” (which is iconic) but my god is this woman talented, how on earth does she sing like that while dancing like that? what a talent. ❤
@@londongirl2768 I'm assuming that as well - mainly because everything else in the song was so meticulously timed. (Although I have spent -more than- a few hours trying to trace the two back through the choreography)
What’s crazy is that she’s this talented, skilled, and trained but was an ensemble member of Hamilton OBC. Just goes to show how much it’s takes to make it!
Steven Spielberg made her into a bigger name with West Side Story that earned her a lot of award win including an Academy Award after having a small part in Hamilton. Imagine having the first ever Oscar winner in the Hamilton cast and that is part of the ensemble member, how remarkable is that 🤗

Thank you!
Thank you!!!
Thanks for this! Much easier to sing along with this awesome opening number ❤️❤️❤️
Thank You soo much❤❤
Amazing! Thank you for your time and effort.
Thanks for posting this!!!!
I'll never understand why they don't show the Tonys worldwide, but thanks to youtube I could see this at least months later 😄
Same here! Very thankful for the repost 💙
I've watched it a million times and Lin's reaction at the end gets me every time!
A Tony opening performance that will sure made Neil Patrick Harris proud and that's saying something
This performance absolutely CLOWNS on that stupid joke about her not being able to sing, my god.
Wait, there are people who think she can't sing?? What the hell, i'm pretty sure she did all the singing by herself in West Side Story and fucking nailed it! Idk why people say she can't sing
@@Fl0k5serthe joke Bella Ramsey was told to say at that one awards show. They put her in with Ryan Gosling and Jack Black as “actors who think they can sing”
The last RENT reference made me tear up: I always wish Jonathan Larson could be here to see the impact his show has
Its that giant smile at the end where she looks so excited that gets me
I just adore Ariana DeBose . She is an amazing talent while being humble She deserves all the wonderful things coming her way!
gave me chills when I first watched it, and it still gives me chills now. ariana debose is an absolute LEGEND
Thanks for reposting and with the well deserved standing O! I'm a big fan of your mashups and this is just wonderful. Have been watching daily (on Paramount) for an regular hit of JOY!
Thank you so much!!! Had to repost when all the CBS content from the night went private. 🥰
@@brauhala Just noticed you named all the dancers! Thanks for that too - they were terrific. Quite the team all together!
I SURE can understand watching daily for a regular hit of joy ! Exactly how I felt !
the way the choreo changes at 2:45 gives me goosebumps
Pure excellence on stage!! ^^
This was PHENOMENAL! I have had this at rhe top of my most listened to Playlist, since it aired. SO SO GOOD!
I've never heard of ariana debose but ive just realised that this is that deadly little charmer from the hamilton chorus. It's such a mad surreal privilege to watch someone's dream come true!
No one:
Ariana Debose: destroys all of us with this masterpiece of talent
What a talent. She was so under-utilised in Hamilton and Schmigadoon and even The Prom
Good thing Steven Spielberg saw what she's capable at and gave her Anita for West Side Story that earned her an Oscar
I’ve watched this so many times. She is perfect!!!
She was absolutely stunning!! Like I could watch her perform for hours that was, like nothing I've ever seen honestly
I find myself watching this at least once a week. She was so good.
This makes me tear up every time I watch it. There’s something so powerful about bringing together multiple shows and their songs to create this masterpiece. Incredibly executed 👏
I scream whenever there is a west side story and hamilton reference. I love her so much in both musicals
Holy crap. She nailed it.
The kiss at the Hair moment 🥰
Appreciate this post. The audio is great and the standing O was included. Ariana Debose is an outstanding performer
I’ve never seen anyone more striking. I need a full moment.
Excellence on stage!! Especially with the key change to 2:44 Hairspray - 'you can't stop the beat' while being lifted. You can feel the smooth transition tone, key notes and vibrato flow out of her mouth.
Huge props to the choreography and the dancers. THAT is Broadway-level movement work!
“And all the swings” ❤️❤️❤️
Ahhh last night was the 2023 Tony's and I'm seeing this and remembering how much I loved this when it came on last year!! Crazy how fast time flies!!! 👏🏻
I noticed her since she was signing in 54 below with rockwell. I am just so proud of her and not totally surprised that she has becoming so successful these days. So proud!
she’s fucking crazy talented out of this WORLD
4:13 gave me literal chills omg
The BEST Tony opening in recent memory by far!! Host every year!!!!
2024 - and I still love the this performance
Ahhhh LMM reaction when she called him out on stage 🤍 so fcking cute I love their friendship
And his face when he was applauding at the end. Total awe and pride
@@dragon_toad ugh ikr!!!
I legit teared up this is so good
this woman is EVERYTHING
FINALLY! A version with the full round of applause! Sooooo satisfying! Sooooo amazing! Iconic! :)
Definitely one of the best opening numbers in Tony Awards history.
@@ah7910 wait, are you trying to say Ariana lip synced this? Cause yeah, that is not what happened.
SHE DID THAT!! SHE DID THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's a STAR!!!!
I LOVE ARIANA!!! ❤ I watched this live and she was my favorite part of the Tony’s! I discovered her in “Bring It On” and she’s come so far :) she’s going places!
Thank you for posting this. I never saw the ending and damn.... when she hit the funny girl "people" high note I was like.... YASSSSSSSSSSSS
This has to be one of the BEST mashups ive ever heard of MT music just like A+++++
I woke up this morning and this song was stuck in my head. I had to come listen to it.
Obsessed with this, it’s just incredible. Ariana is phenomenal and the dancers were stunning. Congrats on such an iconic opening 👏👏👏
WHY ISN'T THIS ON SPOTIFY!!!?
There hasn't been a single Tony Award opening song on Spotify and that's sad. I would've want this and NPH's Bigger as a soundtrack 😢
Oh my god! This is the most inspiring performance, what an incredible woman, cast and fabulous writers!
Returning to this after this year’s Tony awards opening number fiasco
Genuinely my favorite Tony Awards opening ever. Brilliant in every moment in all aspects. Bravo.
Wow, I AM SO READY to see a show where ARIANA DEBOSE is FRONT AND CENTER...where she is THE STAR...🌟!!!
She is SO GREAT...🤩🤩🤩!!!
That is why she won a Oscar!
I started tearing up at the tip of the hat to Bring It On during the speeches, and I was full on crying by the time of the standing ovation
THANK YOU for not only posting this, but your artistry in mashing up this EPIC opening number!
I was looking for the complete video for a while. It was really an amazing opening song for the Tony Awards.
this is what i consider perfection.
Now, this is a mash-up! It encapsulates the last 20-30 years of music experience for the upcoming generation. We older patrons/supporters/creators need to stop bitching and find ways to connect with them as it the only way we'll be able to pass on what we've learned. I hope we haven't blown it because we have so much to offer.
what a masterpiece 😍
She's freaking amazing! ❤️
A perfect blend of musicality and dance chops mixed with the perfect performance personality (say THAT 3 times!) and you’ve got an opening number that was so good, she’s getting ready to host for the 3rd time tomorrow night!!! I just love her! ❤
* Ok, back after last night’s Tony’s and I’m disappointed. Not with her per se but there wasn’t much of an opening number. Oh well…
wow this is the best opening of tony awards ive seen. the original song is really good (with a hint of six)
lin being a proud papa >>>>
AND NOW SHE GONNA DO IT AGAIN
Love the shout out to Sue Makoo . We stan a power couple. 🥰
i know she says "and all the SWINGS" ... but I keep hearing "and all the TWINKS" LOL
I actually thought she said and all the twinks and I was like “wait what”
Wow she really did tha thing!!😂
I NEVER leave comments but the pure Joy I just felt watching this was beyond amazing! My God, that was PERFECT! 👏🏿👏🏿❤️
A year later & I'm still watching it ❤
Thank you, "Schmigadoon" for introducing me to this woman... 🥰
I cannot stop watching this.
not gonna lie i only really found about her through the “Angela Basset did tha thing.” (which is iconic) but my god is this woman talented, how on earth does she sing like that while dancing like that? what a talent. ❤
Aweee Charlie and Ryan's kiss 💚
I don’t know who they are, but it was extremely sweet! I assume that was in the choreography and they didn’t just feel like it
@@londongirl2768 I'm assuming that as well - mainly because everything else in the song was so meticulously timed. (Although I have spent -more than- a few hours trying to trace the two back through the choreography)
Jesus Christ! Ariana is amazing! And incredible arrangement by Crowley and Rauhala!
There are people with talent and then there's Ariana DeBose, who seemingly can just do everything
Thanks for posting this. I’ve been furiously looking for this video ever since it came out.
I wondered who wrote and arranged this! It was stuck in my head for days! Congrats!
Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss of Six wrote it.
