Ah, yes. Truly, Stalin's mustache was the most dangerous thing in the Soviet Union in 1936.
My district manager has a mustache like that 😅
To just SEE Stalin in 1936 was dangerous.
A few tips:
1) Stability is necessary - it gives -5% of consumer goods factories (as opposed to +5% with zero stability), which is a lot. To keep stability, you can appoint Stalin as an advisor (+0.20% weekly), lower taxes (+0.20% for each lowering; better appoint Andreev as an advisor before that), or change foreign policy to “cooperative” (USSR is a warmonger, lol) to get a “promise peace” decision.
2) Everything needs PP, so it will be constantly lacking in the beginning. You have to start with focuses that give PP and do everything you can to get it: military parade, radio and TV research, infiltrating spies into another country's government (usually gives +25 PP).
3) A huge source of resources is selling weapons, primarily small arms. So invest in the League of Nations (decision) and sell everything you don't need.
4) One of the challenges in terms of avoiding military disaster in 41 is to gain army experience. The best source of it is skirmishes with the Japanese. There is a trick that allows you to gain experience indefinitely: you need to put six full-blooded divisions at the planned point of attack and arm them with tanks and other things that increase armor and breakthrough. Then while the first three are fighting and losing organization, the other three can recover. It's an almost endless source of experience.
5) It is important to win the war in Spain. This will give another portion of experience and bonuses to research. It is also important to study the command doctrine at least before the attack on Finland, to increase the maximum amount of experience and to be able to accelerate the study of doctrines for army experience. By the way, the debuff in the case of continuing the war with the Finns can be endured, and it will end after the victory. So it is better to capture Finland completely, thus closing one of the fronts.
6) It is better not to leave western Belorussia empty in 41. Putting up a line of cavalry (mobile) divisions will slow down the Germans a lot at the cost of some losses.

A bit of extra I would add to this, is to let go of "vanilla" division-design influences. Support companies, particularly, HQ, Signal, and Supply, can be fucking lifesavers

No the Enigma was easier than this. The trick was to bait the Germans into using a message you already know what it says such as that mines being in a certain area. Also it is easy to decrypt any message that is transmitted on April 20th.

Funnily enough, in earlier episodes Bob the Builder used to hang outside of the cab on all of his machinery (which included a caterpillar tracked dump truck with a bulldozer blade attachment). After a while OHS regulators made him drive inside the cabs which lead to the demise of the show.

Objectively speaking, the 2nd Five Year Plan was a success across the board. It led to a vast improvement in industry, agriculture, production, development, quality of life etc. It is just that the goals were set so absurdly high that formally speaking the plan was considered a failiure despite all the successes.

Indeed, sadly anti-communism is so rife and normalized that people can't even acknowledge reality in regards to the Soviet Union. Makes many people, even the Black Ice team, to make caricatures of reality rather than portray a single good thing around the USSR. It does look better than when I first tried Black Ice 4 several years ago

This mod is closer to the historic events than other versions of the game. Finland bleeding the Soviets during the winter war and the Soviets trading manpower for time during Barbarossa happened.

Every time i see a BIce mod playthrough, I get overwhelmed by the amount of decisions that need to be juggled. It's insane

That looked like absolute hell, thank you for suffering *for* us. Bc I'd never subject myself to that, but I LOVED how historical that was, from getting pushed all the way back to Moscow to the massive pockets army group by army group that the Soviets pulled off in 43-45.
Only thing which didn't fit to the timeline was that it took an extra 2 or so years to get to the push-back. But then again, had the Allies done fuck-all, a war 2 or so years later with a total Soviet victory 5x as bloody is probably exactly what we'd see.
Black Ice is art. It's a piece of artwork and it's beautiful. But it's definitely more of a thing to just behold, and less of an actually-playable game lmao.

As in, so overly-hyper-realistic that an enjoyable game is turned into never-ending redundancies and tedium, with a ridiculously steep learning curve due both to aforementioned redundancy as well as needless features that bloat the game to the max. At least for me. I mean hey there's a market for everything and if you enjoy BI mod more power to you. But it's not fun for the majority of players.

That's a funny one because it actually +- historical with some little changes (like Leningrad wasn't surrounded, but Karelia was just given away, and all stuff with date because of BICE)
I know, was surprisingly historical. Initial "oh shit" moment followed by massive retreats, before german army gets repeatedly encircled and eventually collapses
love the videp bitt3rsteel. Have you ever played World Ablaze? It is a super hard mod that has Expert AI integrated into it so the AI is extremely competent to fight against. It is pretty damn polished too. It is way less new mechanics that you have to micro manage and a bit simpler research and production

Btw to challenge your sanity: if you do nothing during the prep of the civil war as the nationalist (no state clicking and no focuses), you start only with the colonies, 8 divisións against 81, your capital is in equatorial guinea and you are forced to be carlist. Idk that sounds like a challenge hand a half

I also went for the Soviet Union on this mod, and I needed 4 tries before I finally managed to win. Same thing, the game crashed on peace deal, so I lost my sanity.
