31:29 In 2016 Rio de Janeiro organizes the first games to be held in Latin America
Mexico 1968: Am i a joke to you?
Exactly because Mexico identifies as a North American country
Came here to make the same comment. South America, yes...but Latin America?
Every video on this channel has so many errors. I wonder if they even check what they write.😂
The closed captions say South America. What??
I don't like listening to you bro. Your voice is loud. You can use a good microphone. Or you can contact me and we can create the voice for you.❤❤❤❤❤
54 years to finish a marathon 😭
hey man, that's some dedication.
Well at least it's a world-record time, and one unlikely to be beaten any time soon!

Fun fact:
My granfather, who is still alive, served in the finnish military in 1952 and he was tasked on a job of taking care of the racing horses in the stable in the Helsinki Olympics for some reason.
Wow really? Sounds nice to work in the Olympics in some way.
great you!
Mexico was the first country to host the Olympic games in Latin America, Brazil was the fist to host it in the South American region.
Mexico is part of Latin America, but not of South America. Didn't really pay attention to the choice of words in the vid though.
Fun fact: for the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam the now worldwide used P-sign for car parking was used for the first time. The design didn't change: a white P on a blue background.
Ha where the fudge did you learn such an obscure factoid?
@@JOGA_Wills can't remember. But I always like these tiny historical facts.
The traditional pictogram for toilets (stick figure man and woman) were popularized by the 1964 Tokyo Olympics (to help foreigners in a country that don't use the latin alphabet).
@@sacha9593 cool info, thanks!
*2032:* Brisbane, Queensland (Australia will become the first country in the southern hemisphere to host the Summer Olympics in three separate cities.)
I think that would be the United States. St. Louis 1904, Los Angeles 1932, 1984, 2028, and Atlanta 1996
@@greenhornet8262 Idk if he edited his comment to say southern hemisphere but the US is not in the southern hemisphere
Australia is a rich, developed country benefiting from the Western capitalist system
I remember reading that Australian cities have been campaigning for the 2032 Olympics since the 90s. I was so glad to see that they actually awarded Australia
@@sanexpreso2944I mean true but…ok?
The first American games wasn't supposed to be held in St. Louis, but in Chicago. There was a lot of back and forth, and in the end it ended up being in St. Louis at the same time as the World Fair. It was a disaster on so many levels, especially the swimming and the marathon.
During the Olympic winter games in 1972 in Sapporo, Japan, Austrian Skier Karl Schranz was disquallified from the games just briefly after he had arrived in Japan, on the allegation of being a secret professional sportsman. The IOC president presented a photography of Schranz wearing a soccer-outfit with a coffee-advert on its back, which as far as we know, Schranz wore for a charity game. So he returned to Austria quite bitter, yet in Vienna he was greeted by a crowd of nearly 100 000 people, celebrating him as if he had won the games single-handedly.
My mom was supposed to go to the Sydney games but found out she was pregnant only 2 months before the games so had to drop out
In 2016 Rio de Janeiro organized the first games to be held in Latin America. Because Mexico is part of the Star Trek Federation.
He probably meant South America
This was surprisingly fun to watch. Super relaxing, meanwhile reflecting on how peaceful the world has become and all the little events that happened in my life leading up to each games over the years.
I have been waiting for another video🎉❤❤❤Thanks!!
Fun Fact: in 1964 Tokyo shows the first pictograms in the world and in 2020 Japan releases the first kinetic/animated pictograms
Ay! Always good to see a new Geo History vid! 👍
13:20 actually, the IOC awarded the hosting rights for the 1904 Games to Chicago, with the World's Fair in St Louis originally scheduled for 1903, in honor of the centennial of the Louisiana Purchase. However, the organization of the St Louis World's Fair ended up pushing it back a year to 1904, and, not wanting the Olympics to be completely eclipsed by the World's Fair, the two are merged into a single mega event, similar to the 1900 Paris games.

Hungary is an statistical anomaly in Olympic Games achievement.
It neither has a huge population, nor a extreme economy.
insane that they took the 1996 and 2000 olympic games away from greece lmao
*FACT:* "Periodonikes" is the precursor of the English term "Grand Slam".
Hi! Nice video!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
No discussions of the winter games?
Amazing video! Very informative and professionally made! I would add the informations about the alternative Friendship Games from 1984 and the PRC/ROC conflict about participation in Olimpics.
It's nearly 100 years since the Finn Paavo Nurmi was dominating running :) 🇫🇮

31:33 First games in Latin America? What is México now, Mars? Big F.
yeah it's a bit silly. I never use the term "Latin America", Just North, Central and South I'd say
Why split central america off? It's the same as southern mexico. Mountain, jungle, too hot for dignified human life.

Seems like a cool video. Can't wait to watch it.
This is excellent but it would be even better if it included all of the Winter Olympics, as well.
Also, Brisbane, Australia will (Maybe) host the 2032 games.
Fun fact, if you go visit Stadium Australia (The Stadium built for 2000) now known today as Acore Stadium, in Olympic Park, Sydney, you can actually go see the Coldron used. It's in Cathy Freeman Park, outside the Stadium.
Cauldron
Sadly, Canada still has the distinction of being the only host country to not win a gold medal at their own games, twice the other time being the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. It wasn't until the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver that we finally won gold.
Also, I have a very interesting piece of Olympic memorabilia, a Toronto 1996 pin, which was produced for our bid. I got it when I went to the Olympic announcement party at Skydome (now Roger's Centre) here in Toronto in '91, where we lost to Atlanta. I recall Mayor Hazel McCallion (mayor of Mississauga, Ontario, right next to Toronto) tell a reporter that she believes that the games will be known as "The Coca-Cola Games".
(Incidentally, I was also at the breakfast party outside of Union Station here in Toronto when we lost to Beijing.)
That sucks. Imagine having your country ready to listen to the anthem being played in celebration for a Gold Medal, and having to wait until the third attempt for it
“Rio hosts the first games in Latin America” I forgot Mexico speaks English
Seeing recent history in the context of all/general history is interesting, and helps perceive it with having the same impact/value/weight as “older” history and helps perceive it as not just singular/isolated events but as interconnected events happening within previous and current contexts.
Smart guy, Smart videos.
Small correction: Fannie Blankers-Coen is pronouncer as "Koon" not co-en
As recently as 1859, 70, 75 and 89, the Olympic Games were held directly in Greece.
This is very interesting
At the very end of the video, the globe slowly spins, and the video ends with Australia at the left edge.
This is a coincidence -- the 2032 Summer Olympics are scheduled to take place in Brisbane.
Nice little Easter Egg for those of us into the Olympics!
How are we just gonna skip over the 1980 miracle on ice?
in simple language about complicated things, I like it)
Great job, even with the Latin America mistake. Would love to see a video on the winter games, too.
excellent video
The Ancient Greeks really were an amazing civilisation!
The greatest. Forerunners of western civilization
thanks for the research ❤❤❤
Greece indeed saw the big picture
I like how there’s still something about war even if the sim is not
woke up in the morning and saw that geo history uploaded a new video, day is already filled with joy.
I like this video
I hope that Southeast Asia, Africa and South Asia will host their Olympic games respectively, they are regions with large populations that have not hosted the Olympic games
Indonesia is a likely candidate for SEA
Oh god it would destroy the host country. Makes no sense economically to do besides for corruption.
That would only put the country in further debt. It’s not worth it. Fewer and fewer countries are now willing to host the games because of the astronomical costs.
I hope in Africa, Johannesburg host an Olympics . In South East Asia, Manila, Philippines can host & likewise Doha, Qatar can host one as well.
whats with the ai pictures
seriously, it hurts, especially because ACTUAL pictures of these people and places exist... it's seriously ridiculous
Ultra Nice 🌎🏅
I love the video and the history. I have a question. You keep mentioning Ice Olympics and do you think or believe that was a precursor to what we know as winter games or was that a whole separate thing altogether? I was just wondering. Love the video though.
And the 2032 Games will be held in Brisbane, Australia 🇦🇺. Hope the 2036 Games will be held in Istanbul, Türkiye 🇹🇷🖤

That would be interesting 😮🤔

You didn’t even mention the full on violence that happened between Hungary and the Soviets
You failed to reference the Zappas games which were the precursors and what inspired Coubertin, and also Vikelas who was really important for the creation of modern olympic games. Moreover the parade of athletes and opening and closing ceremony were introduced in 1906 Intercalated Games in Greece something you also failed to mention.

Fun fact, there had been as Australian athlete at every Olympic Games, Edwin Flack, i think, out first medal winner
Lots of individual athletes featured but 1 missing is Australian Dawn Fraser.
Dawn dominated in the pool in Melbourne, Rome and Tokyo and up till Ian Thorpe and Emma McKeon was Australia's most successful swimmer.
Skipped mentioning that in the 2012 London games Britain beat China.
completely skipped salt lake city in 2002 and pretty much every other winter Olympics

When do you gonna make a video about 30 years war?
Sucks the Winter Olympics got glossed over, but the video probably would've been 50 minutes long
Now do the winter Olympics!
Please show us about 10.000 BC until Modern Age all history map.
I am Greek and I love watching the games on TV. But I avoid the host cities as I am not fond of all that crowd. I used to live in Sydney 🇦🇺 and left one month before the games there. 😅. Went to live in Athens 🇬🇷 and I avoided going out during the games although I saw the 10.000 m walk pass under my balcony😊. Then my friend from Australia said lets go to Paris🇫🇷 for a week in August 24. I told her , honey they host the Olympics and prices will skyrocket and we won't see the real Paris then , so we are just currently doing greek island hopping and Paris can wait another year! 😁 I love the Olympics on TV only 😂
Thanks for another awesome video! Just to let you know, the term 'Aborigine' is considered outdated and inappropriate in Australia. The terms 'Indigenous Australian' or 'Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Australians' are preferred. Thanks again!
Thank you for the info !
Great video! But the AI is kind of unsettling….
ooooo you should have waited a little bit to release this video, the IOC just voted for the creation of an *Esports Olympic Games*

Correction of 1984: 4 years after the boycott in 1980, I know West Germans boycotted the Olympics in 1980, but they actually didn't boycott the games in 1984, but instead participated the Olympics since West Germany was a member of the Western Bloc.
no way 5 mins ago!
You might want to recheck your facts regarding the first time gold medals were awarded.
Wikipedia has medal tables showing Gold / Silver / Bronze medals awarded from the 1896 (first) games onwards.
It even has pictures of the (oddly square) medals awarded to athletes in 1900 Paris, which includes gold medals.
I rechecked, now you might want to read this article maybe : www.countrywidehotels.co.uk/news/did-you-know-olympic-gold-medals/ . And there are other sources talking about it
No winter Olympic recognition :(
