  • This is my mom's recipe for No-Bake Cookies, and it was my great-grandmother's recipe before her! We love these so much! These are known by different names in different families. I have just learned they are also called Minute Cookies and Preacher Cookies!
    Here are the ingredients:
    1/2 cup butter
    1/2 cup milk
    1 3/4 cups sugar
    4 Tbsp. cocoa powder
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 cup peanut butter
    3 cups oatmeal
    Instructions:
    1. Melt together the first three ingredients, then add cocoa powder.
    2. Once mixture has come to a steady boil, set timer for 1 minute.
    3. After 1 minute, remove mixture from heat and add vanilla, peanut butter, and oatmeal.
    4. Mix everything together well then drop no-bake cookies onto parchment or wax paper on your counter. They will generally firm up at room temperature. (If your kitchen stays very warm, they may take longer to firm up.)
    5. After an hour to an hour and a half, enjoy these delicious no-bake cookies!

      Sifting makes it smoother also. If you cut up your butter in slices it melts faster and you won't run the risk of scalding your milk.

    I've made these for 58 yrs and you can reduce your oats n add coconut to it and it's amazing! Add chopped pecans n chopped cherries! I've done alot of different recipes using this same method! Leave Peanut Butter out when doing some recipes! Amazing different cookies! Thank you! ❤❤😁

My favorite memory is when we got invite our parents for a dinner for two evening. We students cooked the same dinner and dessert for our parents. John McLoughlin Jr High, Mrs. Steiner was our Teacher, its been many years but I still remember that evening.

    A family favorite for 50 years, we pour the mixture onto parchment paper on granite countertop. Then cool and cut into bars. If humidity or the kitchen witch results in too gooey, it's no problem, we eat it with spoons.

    When you started putting them out on the paper, it was like a flood of memories came back to me! My Grandma had these all the time. I think around Christmas, she put peanuts in them? My Grandparents lived a block away, one day when I stopped in(age7-8)? for my cookie,I told her that I hoped she never ran out of them.I remember her laughing and sitting with me as we enjoyed our cookie. Thank you so much for this recipe and juggling a great memory. I will be making these for my grandkids.❤

    POWDER CHOCOLATE TIP: If you mix your powedered chocolate in with any dry ingredients in the recipe,
    flour, sugar, cornstarch, etc.,
    or in this case, mix the chocolate with the sugar in the bowl really well,
    THEN add it to the wet ingredients
    and it wont do the "hard to melt in dry clumps" thing when you add it to the milk & butter in the pan, even when it's still cold.

    I've made these and love them, I've been wanting to make these again , Problem is , I have a dark cocoa powder and I'm not sure how this will effect the cookies. Or if I can alter in some way to achieve a milkier cookie .I don't want them to be bitter anyone has any suggestions I'm happy to listen ,please .

    • @OldTimeKnowledge
      @OldTimeKnowledge  Год назад +1

      I didn't even realize there was dark cocoa powder. I thought there was one kind of cocoa powder and the only difference in making chocolate with it is the cocoa powder to sugar ratio. As long as you're adding the right amount of sugar, I should think they would be fine. What is the brand of dark cocoa powder you have?

  • @MrMultitool
    @MrMultitool Год назад +1

    We made a batch of these and went exactly by the recipe and while they do taste good they fall apart. I'm wondering if less oats would make them stay together.

    • @OldTimeKnowledge
      @OldTimeKnowledge  Год назад

      You can certainly try less oats. That might help the issue! If they taste powdery, the mixture might have boiled slightly too long. Too long can make them powdery or extra crumbly, too short of a boil and they won’t set. I hope this helps!

    You can also skip the scoop part at the end and pour the whole thing in an 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 aluminum pan. The whole thing firms up and then you can just cut them later.

      I didn't even know that oats could have gluten? 🤔 It wouldn't matter if they are gluten-free oats or not because I would think they should work the same. We aren't trying to achieve any gluten elasticity here like we would with bread.

      Hmm... I've never paid attention to the weather while making these. I don't see why you couldn't make these on a rainy day. I think they should come out fine. Also, I'm just using one of my old copper-bottomed Revere Ware pots that I've had for decades.
