  • They weren't necessarily called "no-bake cookies" at the time, but the idea behind these sweet treats dates back to ancient times, when Middle Eastern cooks would combine nuts, dried fruits and seeds using sticky sweeteners. These relatively simple confections made their way into cookbooks by the great depression, adding cream cheese, butter, peanut butter and other ingredients.
Since they don't require baking, no-bake cookies are a great option for both experienced and novice bakers. But they're not foolproof. Lots of different factors can contribute to difficulties. Some are in your control, others aren't. So what shortfalls should you avoid? Here are the biggest mistakes everyone makes with no-bake cookies.

Remember, even if they turn out to be a mess, generally, the less than perfect cookies are still edible and or correctable. For example, by covering them in melted chocolate.

If you toast your oats in the oven first, its gets rid of that mealy taste. Doesnt need to be toasted golden, just before they change color take them out. If you want to crisp them a bit then baking to a pale golden color is fine too!! You can take the crisper oats and turn them to oat flour with a food processor. You can substitute all or half of the flour in oatmeal cookie recipe with the oat flour 💜💜💜💜💜
Makes them a wee bit healthier lol

My no bakes turn out perfect every time. But I cheat a little and stir a couple tablespoons of good chocolate chips in just before the oatmeal goes in. Boil no longer than 90 seconds. They set up firm and shiny.

Definitely. When I make my chocolate no bake cookies, once it starts boiling, only boil for a minute, two, tops or else they are not shiny and a not shiny cookie means they are dry and crumbly. They should be nice and glossy. My very old recipe asks for 3 cups of oatmeal and 1 cup of coconut. I used to put all that in them, but I’m trying now without the coconut and I add peanut butter which my old recipe does not mention. Just as good.
Now the ones without chocolate are just as good, more like butterscotch type cookie. I’ll have to find my recipe for them, that one asks for peanut butter but no cocoa in them. Enjoy everyone. Super good.
