DIY Workshop Dust Collection System

  • Using the Oneida Cyclone Dust Deputy, a 20 gallon Eagle container and my old Craftsman shop vac to create a DIY mobile workshop dust collection system. The system uses a 20 gallon dust storage container versus the normal 5 gallon container to provide added storage capacity between emptying. All mounted on a mobile cart having large wheels to enable mobility around the shop, garage or yard and still be able to roll easily over floor obstruction such as air hoses, extension cords or debris on the floor.

Great build. The most functional & user friendly shop vac & dust collecting cart I’ve seen. Great helpful video of a stylish project. Thanks.

Neat! Love how you added in mounts for all the shop vac accessories. Also, really appreciate the list of parts: makes ordering all the stuff from Amazon much easier for me!
    Thanks for the vid!

Robert, that is ingenious! Much better than filling up a small shop with duct work to collect sawdust. This rolls right to the work. Well done! I'll be making one of these for my shop. Thanks!

I really appreciate the time you took in adding storage and the extras. I usually just want to do projects like this as quickly as possible. No paint. No fancy handles. I think I will challenge myself to take some time and build something better. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thank you, thank you, for doing your project with simple hand tools that just about everyone has. I tire quickly watching DIY videos where the person has thousands of $’s worth of expensive wood shop tools to do a project like yours. You made something that anybody could make themselves and be proud of what thee made as you should be.

Glad the video helped. The wheels alone would cost more than the cart and guess what, you got a base to mount your assembly already done. Good luck.

A cyclone separator on a dust extractor really is a great idea as about 99% of the dust is captured so the extractor's filter and dust bag stays much cleaner for much longer, so there's never any loss in suction and in the long run you save lots of money on filters and vac bags. A definite must have in a woodworking workshop for both power tool use and general cleaning up.

Great job Robert. I love the hand. I made a 14" dia piece of wood about 1/2" thick to go on the top of the container and I screwed it from the bottom. It worked just fine with the cheap Chinese version of the dust deputy about 23 dollars. It worked just fine.
