So underrated by Kiwis. That 2013 season he was unbelievable. Sadly I think the concussion post 2014 meant he never reached those 2013 heights again. Brilliant at the line out, back of the scrum, turnovers, tackler, link up play and his longevity. An all round back row great and all time great AB number 8s IMO.
Without a doubt the best of his generation... Head and shoulders above any other 8th man that played in his era.. He had everything...both sides of the ball, superb.. Zin zan set the pace, Reid raised the bar.
a few years ago before a couple of injuries, man Read still is, but more then the most COMPLETE NO.8 in the game. complete in fitness, Skill, offensive strength and near equal if not better in defense. He admits to being scared to captain the ALL BLACKS because of the history, but all that tells me is he's humble enough to say what most ALL BLACKS this far in its history would not admit. but he's no McCaw...and that's another story
Yeah beat the man in the air for the ball, stood in the tackle as guys tried to bring him down, then slipped it out the back door to Mcaw for the the try, brilliant!
Poop Ee He had 1 good season last year. Doesn't have the subtle offloads and awareness as read. But yeah DV is vicious at the breakdown and attack. Read's all round game is why he was IRB player of the year 2013. If DV can emulate his form again he'd be doing the boks a huge favour this year. Is he exactly the same? No, Reads better
luchiboy Better? Well you have to look at the different play styles between the countries. South Africa focusses on the breakdown and physicality. This, coupled with their more scripted attacking style, is what allows Duane to thrive. He suits South African rugby. Same goes for Read. Read is nimble, looks for the offload and has an amazing skillset, but he isn't quite as relentless in every tackle or every breakdown like Vermeulen. They both have different play styles that do their team justice.
Read was much better. Faster, better with offloads. Taller and more effective in lineouts than Zinny was. Better tackler, although Zinny wasn't bad either in that regard. Read also maintained a higher standard for the duration of his career, beginning to end. Zinny struggled to nail down a place in the starting lineup for a considerable period. Read was always an automatic selection.
I'd say Reid was a combination of Buck and Zin zan.. Hard as nails as buck was aswell as silky skills, pace and rugby iq of Reid.. Doubt we'll see another of his class soon... Ardie doing great, still think his a better 7 tho
Big hits, and brilliant timing, miraculous offloads, line breaks, great strength - man this guy was good. May he have a happy, lucrative retirement.
He up there with ZinZan Brooke
God bless you Kieran read ,thank you enjoyed every time you put that black jersey on
A true gent! Role model and great ambassador for the game. From an Ireland and Lion fan.
Here in new Zealand we expect nothing less than victory he gave us that..

@@EL-dr7vo lol idiot
No other number 8 could compare to reed in this day n age
Would help if you spell his name right lol read*
Definitley the best no.8 in the world. Been at the top of his game over a decade
It always surprises me how quick he is. He's pretty fast for an 8.
What are you talking about? Number 8s are like another back. Of course number 8s are fast.
Pretty quick?
@@jamesgreen3288 number 8s are the wrecking ball of the team. being fast is getting more common but i think the flankers are the fastest forwards
Without a doubt the best of his generation... Head and shoulders above any other 8th man that played in his era.. He had everything...both sides of the ball, superb.. Zin zan set the pace, Reid raised the bar.
this guy's a legend

What about mccaw try v sa when cruden did a cross field kick and Reid offloaded it to mccaw. That was so sick
Yeah beat the man in the air for the ball, stood in the tackle as guys tried to bring him down, then slipped it out the back door to Mcaw for the the try, brilliant!
Best no 8 ever
The legacy of king
Gorgodze!!!!!!
RESPECT HIM
Read is the best number 8
Duane Vermeulen is exactly as good
Poop Ee He had 1 good season last year. Doesn't have the subtle offloads and awareness as read. But yeah DV is vicious at the breakdown and attack. @@poopee7346 Vermeulen hasn't been as consistently good throughout his career.
Hes faster and bigger than Zinny was ill give him that
For me my best #8
Zinny or Reado, Who was better?

backbone of the RWC2015 all blacks.
+prac2 I think Whitelock was a bigger impact than him
+Adan Mccrohan Love that Read run in the vid against France and Whitelock and the pack just sprinting after him to support.
consistency whitelock made mor etackles and was just there. not a playmaker but he did his job
Buck shelford zinzan brook Jerry Collins keiren read our no 8s are the best in the world
I'd say Reid was a combination of Buck and Zin zan.. Hard as nails as buck was aswell as silky skills, pace and rugby iq of Reid.. Doubt we'll see another of his class soon... Ardie doing great, still think his a better 7 tho
Colin's definitely is not in the same class as the others you mention. He also played blindside most of his career.
best number 8
I disagree, Duane Vermeulen is just as good, maybe better
Poop Ee I think that once Billy Vunipola has reached his potential, he may be almost on par with Read
Can't wait to see Vunipola or Morgan take him on in the NZ tour.
Alguien sabe la musica de este video? La segunda cancion
Two Steps From Hell - Protectors of the Earth ;D
His game has changed for the worse ever since he was made captain
Marcus Lockwood
His leadership is obviously not at McCaw level but the standard of his game has remained the same.
Another counties
Gorgodze isn't a 8! For me, the best 8 is louis picamoles
Who the hell are those two. Never heard of them
THE BEST IS LOUIS PICAMOLES
the best number 8 in the world is Sergio parisse
Olly Mutton-Sturm who lol
