Rene Ranger is the epitome of tough. Vastly underrated by NZRU. All talent, all courage, all power. Beast mode and nothing less than 100% FOR 80 MINUTES. Respect for such talent and commitment.
Ranger surfaced in the game when players like Nonu and SBW were still playing which gave a really intense competition. To me, this guy has everything you need in a rugby player.
Rangers got probably one of the best, if not THE best highlights reels - still watch them every Saturday to get hyped for my games, I like to try and mirror his gameplay
I remember seeing him live in a Taniwha match and it just defied belief! He was bumping off and just straight up flattening guys who were at least 15 in some cases 20kg heavier than him! Absolute monster!
Hi Guys, Vincent form Cape Town, South Africa here. This dude is just a beast. What a talent!!! So glad for the Springboks that he didn't got a lot playing time. He' s the bomb...!
I'm an American football fan but becoming a Rugby fan. I can appreciate the athleticism, power and intensity because I know how hard it is. It's insane what this guy is doing.
rhino I'd recommend Julian Savea for the same sort of power. Israel Folau is also worth looking at for his ability to get around players. Truly amazing to watch.
Bumping ppl off is not all about speed and size, it's about making them struggle to align a tackle on you and then exposing their weak body positioning when they are off balance. Ranger was exceptionally good at that.
We have known strong men in the rugby world, like the Tuilagis & the Etzebeths but this guy Rene Ranger is just a spectacle to watch. And fantastic one. His impact in the game was unquestionable.
heapsa practice at the marae, good timing with body positioning and a bit of aggression, some wheels and mix in some skill, underrated at the time showed up julian savea couple times in the clip and leilafano
would love for him to be playing in NZ again. He'd make a far better centre than either Nonu or SBW not only can he break the gain line & D up. After a tackle hes up stealing the ball like a flanker! HE BRINGS IT ALL HE IS THE COMPLETE PACKAGE.
Ik this is old but nonu and sbw have power and everything Rene has but also adding vision and the ability to make the best decision, Ranger is a beast but Nonu and SBW was the better option
What’s super good is all those tackles were 100% fair, great bop and tackle technique - then consistently gets the pass away! So many break the line and then let play die by not passing - awesome!
If only Ford car company would have had the sense to run an Ad with a special addition RENE RANGER..Hi Lux would have been wetting themselves! Strong tuff and my gods is it powerful just like the MAN.. Rene what a legend Thanks for the great memories
I know this is a highlight reel, albeit probably the best on youtube. But I have also watched as much action as I can of Rene Ranger and he never fails to impress. He is a magnificent all round player - not just his big hits and bumps, but also his great hands and awareness in offloading after contact. Unfathomable really why he only got a handful of caps for the ABs. All I can think is that he must have shit on the AB selectors' strawberries at some point
He's making top dollar in France and was an All Black. It could also be argued that he's one of the bigger names in the French rugby scene. I wish he came back though with the AB centre positions up for grabs
TheRugbyPackHD he had already worn the black jersey and was a super rugby veteran by the time you first commented. Actually a couple years before you even commented so.
He just runs it straight all the time bro. It's pretty rare that you ever see him drifting across field because if he gets space he knows he can just bump players off or throw the off-load. He also has a great knack for timing his bump-offs too and when to pull them out. If he sees a weak defender he'll just expose them with a crash ball or trying to set-up his teammates.
Good technique mostly. Because of his size people think they can tackle him head on but he gets in to a good position with great timing and flattens them.
New Zealand definitely made a mistake by letting him go overseas. I for one am relieved he's not playing against my team this season. From a South African supporter.
To be fair it wasn't until he got selected by the All Blacks again that he thought he was gonna be playing international rugby again and by that time it was too late because he was thinking he wouldn't be getting another contact from the NZRU so he decided to sign on in France. If he was to wait out a little longer, had a little bit more faith in the All Blacks and not signed so early he probably would be still playing with the Blues and All blacks considering how good his form was before he left. It was all left with Rene to decide whether he wanted more money and his chances were of cracking the All Blacks wasn't as high he wanted or waiting out till the NZRU offer him a few more years in NZ. He wanted to settle his future playing years early so he signed on with Montpelier. I would say neither or was to blame to be honest.
Obviously he is quite a beast physically, but am I right in my thought that it's his use of the ball which helps him 'bump' off players so consistently? If you notice each time he's entering contact, he braces by using the ball tucked in his arm and against his chest, and it seems to cause players to bounce off more noticeably due to the ball pressure. As for the tackling... that's perfect leading with the shoulder!
Dillon Faigaa yea man, only if the technique is correct. Him and Savea master the technique where Lomu has been developed it to perfection. Shifts his weight and prepares for contact, with the precise timing, or you will end up fumble the ball.
It's a pleasure to see an almost average sized guy doing that good, for us "average people"! Ok, maybe Rene's 16 st 1 lb are not that average, but one can get there with proper training I guess (weight lifting, "diet" and so on)...
what i dont understand is he plays like this every game. And Fekitoa comes along and they have very similar playing styles and power, but Ranger for me has the experience and skill over him. Yet they give Fekitoa the call up
LyesalotRUGBY well yer I was mainly referring to the fact that he was around for a little while and wasn't really used even when he was there apart from the few games he played. Where as Fekitoa is like, new on the scene and straight up gets a gig after a good season. Dont get me wrong i love watching him play hes awesome but I believe Ranger got pretty Shafted which is part of the reason he went over seas in the first place.
Feao DovahKiin I think its just bad timing, ranger came through while nonu and smith were in top form with kahui and sbw there as well, while now kahui is injury prone, nonu is out for god knows how long, and sbw has just came back from his stint in league, im sure if ranger was here now, he would fit right in.
If only he played league bit nonetheless my favorite Union hitman of all time, unfortunately the ABs selectors never gave him time but all round a devastating ball carrier.
The All Blacks missed out big time on him and the Gear brothers. They asked for a sabbatical in their contract and the All Blacks refused and then all of a sudden see you later.
they should allow for no arms tackles. it happens alot in the game and most of the time it's because it can't be helped. so much energy, power and adrenaline pumping through the body that, trying to perform it with arms wrapped, is sometimes a task difficult to perform. especially when things get very quick and fast, players aren't able to wrap the legal way. you can see it in this video, rene ranger tries to in a few tackles, but in the moment, he can't quite do it. they should just legalize no arms, just as long as it's still under the chest or on the chest.
No. Because when people tuck their arms in to go for the classic shoulder charge, their shoulder literally becomes a weapon due to the reduced surface area created by such an arm position. Breaking bones is never a good thing.
Like all good runners, you initiate the contact rather than have a hit put on you. Jonah was the Master. Both, there are a few around. The secret is to keep your eyes open during the entire performance. You want the other guy to see you watch him close his eye's before you knock him out.
Rene Ranger is the epitome of tough. Vastly underrated by NZRU. All talent, all courage, all power. Beast mode and nothing less than 100% FOR 80 MINUTES. Respect for such talent and commitment.
AWSOME ... you nailed every word I was going to say!
Ranger surfaced in the game when players like Nonu and SBW were still playing which gave a really intense competition. To me, this guy has everything you need in a rugby player.
They're both 12s though
Rangers got probably one of the best, if not THE best highlights reels - still watch them every Saturday to get hyped for my games, I like to try and mirror his gameplay
I’ve honestly been watching this video for years every time before a match to get pumped. I don’t play anymore but god this gives me goosebumps
underrated player
Thanos just called me and ask if thers any warriors on planet earth just find one
Dry🤣
Must be 10 years old lol
I remember seeing him live in a Taniwha match and it just defied belief! He was bumping off and just straight up flattening guys who were at least 15 in some cases 20kg heavier than him! Absolute monster!
Hi Guys, Vincent form Cape Town, South Africa here. This dude is just a beast. What a talent!!! So glad for the Springboks that he didn't got a lot playing time. He' s the bomb...!
Nobody has ever chucked Julian Savea on the ground like Rene Ranger, the man is a beast
Thank you for sharing this video !! Rene Ranger, the beast, the best...a legend was born
Rennie was one of my favorite centre's in super rugby as well as the all blacks team
I'm an American football fan but becoming a Rugby fan. I can appreciate the athleticism, power and intensity because I know how hard it is. It's insane what this guy is doing.
Also, who else highlights would you recommend for me to check out?
rhino I'd recommend Julian Savea for the same sort of power. Israel Folau is also worth looking at for his ability to get around players. Truly amazing to watch.
Jonah lomu bro
Shane WIlliams, just so you can see Rugby is a sport even the little guys can succeed at.
Check out Greg Inglis mate. Plays rugby league but he would be the best center ever in rugby if he switches
One of the few men in the world where ‘just go low’ doesn’t work
It does, but it has to be ankle low, any higher and you're getting toilet seated.
Bumping ppl off is not all about speed and size, it's about making them struggle to align a tackle on you and then exposing their weak body positioning when they are off balance.
Ranger was exceptionally good at that.
Thank you, this is how a loot of players do it
No.1 favourite player of all time. RENE RANGER BOOOMFAAAAA!!!! Awesome video.
bro your comments are everywhere lol
Mister Rugby Fan m
We have known strong men in the rugby world, like the Tuilagis & the Etzebeths but this guy Rene Ranger is just a spectacle to watch. And fantastic one.
His impact in the game was unquestionable.
Incredible ability to bounce players whilst only weighing 93kg
Timing that technique to tee
Speed + explosiveness = power
Add the fro in the equation and you got beast mode
heapsa practice at the marae, good timing with body positioning and a bit of aggression, some wheels and mix in some skill, underrated at the time showed up julian savea couple times in the clip and leilafano
Greg I’m 4ft 8 and i bumped someone off who was 5 ft 7
Rene Ranger is brutal and he is a great player. More people need to see this.
would love for him to be playing in NZ again. He'd make a far better centre than either Nonu or SBW not only can he break the gain line & D up. After a tackle hes up stealing the ball like a flanker! HE BRINGS IT ALL HE IS THE COMPLETE PACKAGE.

Rene ranger is those players who u underestimate when u first see them... then u go try tackle them or run the ball at them then your like "fk dat"
I tackled him one time. Anyways, the doctor is calling me. He needs to put a casts back on all 4 of my limbs.
If only Ford car company would have had the sense to run an Ad with a special addition RENE RANGER..Hi Lux would have been wetting themselves! Strong tuff and my gods is it powerful just like the MAN.. Rene what a legend Thanks for the great memories
We needed him in the NFL.
Happy this guys returning to the blues next season.
Him and George moala would be the most powerful centre combo around.
Him and Tuilagi?
Most underrated player in NZ rugby.
I know this is a highlight reel, albeit probably the best on youtube. But I have also watched as much action as I can of Rene Ranger and he never fails to impress. Nice vid mate, this guy needs more attention.
He's making top dollar in France and was an All Black. It could also be argued that he's one of the bigger names in the French rugby scene. I wish he came back though with the AB centre positions up for grabs
True but I did comment this 2 years ago
TheRugbyPackHD he had already worn the black jersey and was a super rugby veteran by the time you first commented. Actually a couple years before you even commented so.
Probably born a decade too early. Would be a global super star if he was in the current All Blacks.
He was one of my favorite when I was young
Loving the hyper hd clips. Very nice vid.
Always looking for the offload too. Very exciting player and a thrill to watch.
this bloke should have been at least a 50 cap AB without a shadow of a doubt
He's my motivation;!! Being strong no matter what😊✊
AWESOME video dude, thanks a lot for the shoutout btw!
I wish hed played longer at international level
Never seen anyone fend Julian Savea like that🔥🔥🥵☄️
I don't understand how this guy isn't that huge at all, yet he hits like a goddamn bulldozer.
He just runs it straight all the time bro. It's pretty rare that you ever see him drifting across field because if he gets space he knows he can just bump players off or throw the off-load. Pretty huge in nz doe
He is alot bigger when you see him in person. 102 kg
He is alot bigger when you see him in person. 102 kg

Ive tried using the ball in this way but it always ends up bad, usually winded.
The way he shifts his weight and prepares for contact helps too. If the defender is rushing up fast he'll just bump them off.
Dillon Faigaa yea man, only if the technique is correct. Him and Savea master the technique where Lomu has been developed it to perfection. Shifts his weight and prepares for contact, with the precise timing, or you will end up fumble the ball.
They all got big upper bodys . Nothing to do with the ball really Straight polyneasian brute .
It ain’t the ball, the ball in most occasions helps the defender pop the runner. This is just what you call a beast
Ranger and Savea in the All Blacks both as wingers OMG, shit would go down as in opposite team would have alot of missed tackles
4:10 he bumped off Julian Savea
Ranger totally under rated. 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
It's a pleasure to see an almost average sized guy doing that good, for us "average people"!
Ok, maybe Rene's 16 st 1 lb are not that average, but one can get there with proper training I guess (weight lifting, "diet" and so on)...

Holy shit! What a player. Brilliant aggression and tenacity!
Who wants to tackle this backline?
11. Julian Savea
12. Ma'a Nonu

14. Hosea Gear
15. Charles Piutau
No one that would b deadly

Ur the best ur my fav rugby player ever
The All Blacks missed out big time on him and the Gear brothers. They asked for a sabbatical in their contract and the All Blacks refused and then all of a sudden see you later.
He’s gonna carve up playing for crusaders this year
Dangerous! great video mate
1:10 Nonu is angry Ranger didnt pass the ball lol
That's from growing up playing bull rush at the marae
Facts g 🤣
Playing bullrush on the Marae you either grow up having the meanest whackz like Benji Marshall or the hearty bump offs like Rene Ranger hahaha
Not often you see Conrad Smith, Bryan Habana and Julian Savea made to look like girl’s blouses! 😎
where do you get all those HD clips? Love your channel
Thanks! I get them off a private forum.

A tackle where the people "show his will to wrap his arms around the other player" is not a foul
Thats sum cookie power there loving it booooom
He’s Māori and Cook Island Māori, thats Māori power
This dude is invincible.
