For those who don't have the time/inclination to sit through the entire video the list of films is as follows: Pumpkinhead, Evil Dead 2, Poltergeist 3, The Funhouse, The Prince of Darkness, The Howling, Chopping Mall, Christine, The Stepfather, Christmas Evil, Fright Night, Friday the 13th Part 2, Frankenweenie, The Blob, Friday the 13th, Pet Sematary, Creepshow, Halloween 2, A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, Sleepaway Camp, Ghostbusters, The Toxic Avenger, April Fool's Day, Possession, Friday the 13th Part 4, Friday the 13th Part 7, They Live, Child's Play, Vampire's Kiss, Friday the 13th Part 6, Slumber Party Massacre, The Fly, The Lost Boys, Little Shop of Horrors, An American Werewolf in London, The Terminator, Slumber Party Massacre 2, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2, The Witches of Eastwick, My Bloody Valentine, Gremlins, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3, Halloween 3, Halloween 4, Hellraiser, The Shining, A Nightmare on Elm Street, RoboCop, The Thing and Poltergeist.
I have been a defender of Halloween 3 for such a long time it thrills me that you have an appreciation for that movie. It is certainly the most"Halloween" of all the Halloween movies. It also brings a huge smile to my face that you love RoboCop so much. Having been a kid in love with horror in the 80s these films are so nostalgic to me. Appreciate your channel and all that you do bringing attention to the greatest genre!
Yes, yes, and yes. Halloween 3 is insanely underrated. No, there's no Michael but it has the best jingle in a horror movie, EVER. "5 more days till Halloween, Halloween, Halloween..." Love it!
I’m very sorry, but H3 was bad, but we can still be friends! Maybe I didn’t like it because I spent the first 45 minutes trying to figure out how Michael would play into the “what I thought was a” set-up, lol. I’ve re-watched it since, understanding it was unrelated, but never got that original viewing disappointment out of my skull, I guess. Regards and keep on Horroring!
The biggest missed opportunity of David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy is that Michael’s mask wasn’t his source of power and made by the Silver Shamrock corporation.
I’m a more recent subscriber so I’ve just been binging a lot of your vids, and one of the series I binged was the decade videos. And when I didn’t find one for the 80s, I was like, “wait, why’d she stop making these?” And now you made it. I found you on perfect timing cause now I don’t have to wait as long for this one lol let’s gooo🙌🏻
@@HauntedHippie omg yes that’s exactly how it felt! I got so excited seeing the notification! Just finished the video, and I loved it. Keep up the good work! And when you were talking about Poltergeist’s score, it made me realize that I’d love to know your favorite horror scores. It can be non horror too. But again, I’m more recent so maybe you’ve already made a video on that lol. But yes anyways I’m babbling. Loved the video🙌🏻
Nice list Kylie! I was going to say that it has been a bit since you've done a horror list video but I'm glad it's back. Thanks for this Kylie. Oh and congrats to 27k subs!
I remember the whole 3-D craze for movies in the theater during the 1980s (complete with those ridiculous blue/red cardboard glasses); even the horror films (especially sequels) got in on the trend, with "Jaws 3," "Friday the 13th Part III," and "Amityville 3-D" to name a few
Then they showed them on TV and if you bought the TV guide, 2 pairs of those glasses would come with it. My mom bought three tv guides to get enough glasses for the family. We had those glasses in a kitchen drawer for the next ten years waiting on more 3d movies that never came.
1. The Shining 2. The Thing 3. Poltergeist 4. Gremlins 5. The Terminator (could be #1 tbh but If we’re talking horror be considering it horror here it goes) 6. The Lost Boys 7. The Fog 8. Day Of The Dead 9. Videodrome 10. An American Werewolf In London HM: Child’s Play (JUST missed the list 😭), The Fly, Hellraiser, Possesion, Sleepaway Camp, Friday Part 4.
I have a love/hate relationship with 80s horror.. it's honestly my least favorite decade for horror and a majority of the films that have replay for me personally are mindless slashers lol.. Halloween 4 is my favorite horror film from the 80s if we're being honest.. I love it so much.. there's so much I love about it, but the best part is honestly the opening credits scene with the ominous music in the background, you can't capture the essence of fall in the middle of nowhere better than that, talk about setting the tone for a film! I actually think Halloween 1978 and Halloween 6 do a great job of capturing October in the Midwest.. yeah you can see a palm tree in Halloween 1978, but that neighborhood 100% feels like any neighborhood in any Midwest suburb during October, so credit to John Carpenter for that.. Halloween 2 is great.. it's a little claustrophobic but it has the best tension and suspense in the entire franchise besides the original.. The Shining is technically the best horror film that I've seen from the decade.. masterclass filmmaking.. Sleepaway Camp is waaay better than it has any business being.. I obviously love the OG A Nightmare on Elm Street, but the older I get the more I lose interest in it.. the opening 20 minutes is masterclass horror.. the score is perfect.. I love Nancy and Heather Langenkamp, but I'm still not sure how I feel about her performance after all these years.. she's great and iffy at the same time lol.. NOES The Dream Master is awesome.. it's not "scary" but it's fun.. I love Alice, she's one of my favorite final girls.. Lisa Wilcox is great, she really makes me invested and root for Alice.. and it being considered the MTV generation film of the franchise definitely adds to its charm.. no way that should ever be considered a negative thing lol.. Jason Lives is the best Friday film imo.. it's also considered the MTV generation film of the Friday franchise.. it has everything that you could possibly want from a Friday the 13th film.. Megan is the GOAT but Tommy is annoying lol.. The OG Friday the 13th has grown on me over the years.. I always respected it but considered it overrated.. but these days I really appreciate everything about it more than I ever have.. Friday the 13th Part 3 is my 2nd favorite film in the franchise idgaf.. it's a campy masterpiece, whether it was intentional or not is irrelevant lol.. I'm also a strong believer that the Part 3 theme should've become the official Friday the 13th theme song.. Gremlins is a classic and I loved it as a kid.. don't love it as much these days, but I'm still a huge fan of Gremlins 2.. I've always considered Gremlins 2 the superior film.. Warner Bros wanted a sequel so bad they tripled the director's pay and gave him 100% creative control.. it's a batshit crazy satire that's meta and self aware, it's like a middle finger to the industry, classic film.. I was obsessed with Poltergeist when I was younger.. it's obviously great, I love the parents and the family dynamic.. JoBeth Williams was perfect, so was Craig T. Nelson.. but it's one of those films that gives me sad and depressing nostalgia, so I usually like to just let that film be and just appreciate the times I had with it lol.. I'm with you on the first 2 Evil Dead films.. I respect the craftsmanship and I get why they're cult classics, but those films are soo not for me.. haven't seen any of the others.. One of the most underrated films from the 80s is the controversial Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.. masterclass film and critically acclaimed, but it has some brutal stuff and it can be hard to watch for some.. it's grimey as fuck, feels cheap, and maybe even gratuitous or misogynistic at times, but it's "art" and "cinema", it's truly well crafted and shot well.. not sure if you'd like it or not, but Michael Rooker gives an insane performance in his film debut..
Good list. I haven't really given much thought to my list, but movies that instantly came to mind that were not on your list include From Beyond, The Gate, Killer Klowns From Outer Space, Pulse, and Near Dark. I can't say for certain if they would all be in my top 50 without rewatching them, but they are nostalgic movies for me.
Very respectable list for the 1980s horror list Kylie some picks or placements I don't believe should be there but i understood you're reasoning for why they're in that order. HMS Funhouse City of the living dead Army of Darkness Little shop of horrors The Fog Poltergeist 3 Leatherface Texas chainsaw massacre 3 Halloween 2018 John Carpenter Prince of darkness The Burning Psycho 2 Evil dead 1981 Creepshow Now the top best horror of the 1980s 12. Possession 11. Altered states 10. Evil Dead 2 dead by dawn 9. The changeling 8. The Shining 7. Fright Night 6. Predator 5. The Lost Boys 4. Dead Ringers 3. A Nightmare on elm Street 2. The Stepfather 1. The Thing
Love your list! Can't wait to see your top 100 horror movies 👻 I finally finished the Halloween and Child's Play franchises this month, and I loved Chucky so much that I'm going to start the TV show soon! I'm also going to keep making my way through Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street :)!
I've been binging your videos the last couple of days because I appreciate the genuineness. You have your own opinions on movies, not trying to pander to the norm of what's expected to be ranked high. Like when I heard Evil Dead 2 at 49, my DISAGREEE light came on. That's a subscription for me, dawg. I'd love to see a Universal Monsters ranking sometime. Especially if you can stomach the 30 something movies of the time. Stay spooky.
You're number 1 & 2 are definitely mine as well! I'm 39, so an 85 baby and grew up watching this as a family tradition. We still all watch it together and love it so much! I'm so happy I found you!!!!❤
Great list Kylie ur a cool girl! My top 10 1. Noes 2. F13 pt 3 3. Halloween 4 4. Evil dead 5. Halloween 2 6. Night of the demons 7. Pumpkinhead 8. Pet Sematary 9. Evil dead 2 10. F13 pt 2
Some cool stuff in your list. My personal favourite 50 are: 50 The Shining 49 Creepshow 48 Basket Case 47 Hell High 46 Sleepaway Camp 45 Terror Train 44 Waxwork 43 Friday The 13th Part 5 42 House On Sorority Row 41 Return Of The Living Dead 40 Shocker 39 They Live 38 New Year's Evil 37 The Dorm That Dripped Blood 36 Inseminoid 35 The Lamp 34 The Incubus 33 To All A Good Night 32 Mutator 31 Hellraiser 30 Deadly Friend 29 Poltergeist 28 A Nightmare On Elm Street 5 27 Friday The 13th Part 8 26 976-EVIL 25 Fright Night 24 Sleepaway Camp 2 23 Final Exam 22 Re-Animator 21 Halloween 5 20 Halloween 3 19 Psycho 2 18 My Bloody Valentine 17 Slumber Party Massacre 16 Chopping Mall 15 Offerings 14 Pieces 13 Bloody Birthday 12 Maniac Cop 11 Visiting Hours 10 Friday The 13th Part 6 9 Psycho 3 8 An American Werewolf In London 7 The Fog 6 Prince Of Darkness 5 A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 The Thing 3 Halloween 4 2 Halloween 2 1 A Nightmare On Elm Street 3
As much as I love Halloween 2, Friday The 13th parts 2 & 4 and ANOES but Michele Soavi’s Italian slasher StageFright tops them all it’s a diamond-in-the-rough so criminally underrated and deserves more attention, Irving Wallace aka Owlface is right up there with Jason, Michael, Freddy, Chucky, Ghost-face and Art The Clown. Highly recommended if you haven’t seen it
Love these list!! Do you think you will ever make a 70s list? I have gotten so much into the 70s recently, so I would love to hear your opinion on the decade. My top 10: 1) Gremlins, 2) Pumpkinhead, 3) Terminator (still feel peer-pressured to put this in Sci Fi or Action but I so agree with you), 4) A Nightmare on Elm St, 5) The Fog, 6) The Return of the Living Dead, 7) The Thing, 8) Poltergeist, 9) Alligator, 10) Aliens.
OMG! We are finally here! The decade that shaped Generation X! Children wandering the streets with our front door keys tied to our necks, hanging out with our friends whose parents paid for the H.B.O! Movies not mentioned: * 1987 The Gate- Tiny baby Stephen Dorff’s first movie! Incredible physical effects including some of the most fun stop motion. * 1989 Society- I can’t even begin to describe this, but watch it! * 1980 Motel Hell- NEVER enough love for 80s campy cannibalism. * 1988 Paperhouse- Dark Fantasy? Actual fever dream. Has anyone ever seen this but me?!?! ♥️ Love you!!!
Paperhouse finally! 🙏🏻 I bring this film up constantly and its always crickets. Beautiful, haunting, terrifying, and surreal and talk about a criminally underrated child performance.
Paperhouse finally! 🙏🏻 I bring this film up constantly and its always crickets. Beautiful, haunting, terrifying, and surreal and talk about a criminally underrated child performance
You shed some light on the meaning behind the "Slumber party massacre" movies and gave more meaning to the "Drill-Her" killer. I love horror and always watch these movies at face value and never delve into the meaning and messages behind them. I usually assume there isn't one. Haven't watched Night On Elm Street Part 3 and Night of the Creeps since shortly after they came out, I'm hoping they hold up.
Ok as someone who was 10 yrs old in 1980 and probably saw half of your list in the theaters in their first run I think you did a very good job. However there are some notable ones you left out... The Dead Zone, Scanners, Phantasm 2 and of course freaking ALIENS!!! Have a good one Hippie!
Ranking lists are always changing for me. I'll probably never be able to settle fully. But, at current, these are my Top 80 Horror Films of the 1980's. (Because 50 just... isn't going to cover it. No way.) Part 1 = 80-41 80. _Just Before Dawn_ - eerie camping hillbilly slasher, stalker survival horror 79. _Chud II_ / _Bud the Chud_ - it's extremely goofy but high concept, quirky, and the cast is great 78. _Night of the Creeps_ - satisfying gruesome set pieces and grotesque style 77. _Blades_ - very cheap and the acting is atrocious but it's fun and beautifully shot 76. _Children of the Corn_ - refreshingly haunting music and atmosphere, solid supernatural menace 75. _The Boogeyman_ - shrill and tacky but attention-grabbing, artful use of color and symbolism 74. _Grandmother's House_ - infectious high energy surprises and wild suspense 73. _Wolfen_ - ambitious social commentary, unbelievable camerawork 72. _Stage Fright_ - palpable sense of dread and stark shocks 71. _Fright Night Part 2_ - eventful sequel with campy acting and no shortage of interesting ideas 70. _Halloween 5_ - utterly bizarre but such a singularly fascinating directorial vision 69. _Zombie High_ - bracing, chilling, resourceful; a lot of visual metaphor 68. _Burial Ground_ - delicate grindhouse cocktail of beauty, ugliness, and super strange writing 67. _Warlock_ - subgenre pick and mixer; lot of adventure and fantasy with the sinister stalking and witchery 66. _Society_ - wonderfully creepy, high on the surreal factor, fun 80's fashion, notorious ending 65. _Friday the 13th Part 2_ - increased production value and improved camerawork 64. _Deadly Friend_ - Wes Craven's Teenage _Frankenstein._ A little overwrought but always inventive and campy fun 63. _Curtains_ - the Canadian Giallo; performance art horror and galvanizing stylized mayhem 62. _The Beyond_ - Lucio Fulci's stab at Argento's _Suspiria_ but with zombies and killer animals 61. _Fear No Evil_ - ultra uninhibited campy occult horror, rife with gay themes and outrageous scenes 60. _Island of the Alive_ - another wacky Larry Cohen gem I found visually dazzling but also sobering and provocative 59. _Dead & Buried_ - steadily mounting tension that rises to incredible peaks, dark and grotesque 58. _Alone In the Dark_ - one of the scariest horror films I've ever seen; prepare for goosebumps 57. _A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child_ - one of Freddy's most aesthetically substantive and incredible outings 56. _Slumber Party Massacre II_ - narrative chaos and incoherence but stylish and downright fantastical 55. _Rabid Grannies_ - icy ghoulishness, aristocratic demonic splatter, horrific death scenes, high camp 54. _Friday the 13th Part 3_ - surprising amount of depth in character writing, incredibly spooky music score 53. _Cat People_ - enveloping; achingly gorgeous tours of New Orleans, soaked in color and synth 52. _Motel Hell_ - a go for broke epic of low budget pluckiness; outlandish ideas effectively put to screen 51. _Psycho II_ - a refreshingly compassionate, emotionally attentive take on Norman Bates as a character 50. _C.H.U.D._ - one of the few non-Romero monster movies that captures the same righteous anger in its social commentary 49. _House_ - rubbery but darkly funny horror comedy, fun pre _Evil Dead 2_ creature feature antics 48. _Anguish_ - one of the first meta, self-aware horror films but still utilizes a lot of unique cinematic devices 47. _Brain Damage_ - total circus of male psychosexual bizarreness, drug metaphors and gay metaphors beget pure havoc 46. _Night of the Comet_ - girls rule! Teen sisters traverse post-apocalyptic landscape and colorful adversarial forces 45. _The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2_ - the closest thing to a complete immersing into utter madness 44. _I, Madman_ - chic, infectious, trendy 1989 Horror Noir; sharp, enigmatic; an undiscovered gem 43. _A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors_ - special visual effects extravaganza! A horror nirvana of creativity 42. _The Video Dead_ - as low as you can go, budgetarily, before you arrive at Shot On Video but loaded with ideas 41. _The House by the Cemetery_ - sort of a New England woodsy-Gothic zombie family domestic disturbance saga
Full transparency, I watch your channel because we don't agree on a lot of movies. I watch so I can hear your side of the story. I don't need to live in an echo chamber 😁 However, I was shocked at how many of my favs were on your list. Terminator IS a horror. So is Predator. It even scared Billy 😂
Absolutely love it whenever someone mentions Pumpkinhead as one of their favorite horror movies. That was actually the first ever horror movie I watched after begging both of my parents for MONTHS. I was 10 when I just happened to catch a glimpse of the cover art for the VHS and thought that Pumpkinhead had such a cool and creepy design and I just wanted to know more, and I cannot count the number of times I would alternate between looking at the cover and reading the back of the box. One glance and I knew that I HAD to see this movie no matter what, and I wasn't going to stop asking until I did. My dad finally caved much to my mom's chagrin and we watched it together And it was unbelievably gory and Pumpkinhead was unbelievably creepy and scary as all hell to my 10 year old mind and I absolutely fell in love and have been a MASSIVE horror fan ever since
This is a great list! I love Paul Verhoeven's films, Robocop and Starship Troopers are aging like fine wine! I think the most notable ommisions if you haven't seen them and worth adding to any watchlist would be Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Day of the Dead, Near Dark, The Burning, Vamp...but most of all The Changeling...I ADORE that films, truly incredible and under appreciated! What a decade, love 80s horror!
It does my heart warm to see that you’ve really come around to Halloween 3. Yeah, it’s got its flaws, but I adore that damn movie. Cochran what’s got to be one of the best horror villains out there
1.Halloween 3 2.Evil Dead 2 3.Texas Chainsaw 2 4.Nightmare on Elm Street 3 5.Nightmare on Elm Street 4 6.Halloween 2 7.Friday the 13th 6 8.Lost Boys 9.Near Dark 10.The Blob
Definitely good choices here. I totally agree with "Evil Dead 2,", I am a huge horror fan but, I literally watched the original "Evil Dead," only a few years ago. I just watched "Christmas Evil" this December, it was good but you have to take in to account you're watching it for the first time 40 years later. Pet Semetary was pretty true to the book as I remember it. ZELDA still one of the creepiest horror characters of all-time! LOL
My top 10 - 1. Child's Play 2. Poltergeist 3. Poltergeist 2 4. Halloween 4 5. Pet Semetary 6. Nightmare On Elm Street 7. Hellraiser 8. Friday The 13th 4 9. The Fly 10. Halloween 3
Some of my favorite movies are on this list. Some I need to see just because I haven’t seen them or I saw maybe once a long time ago and don’t remember them.
Great list. I'm glad you were able to watch Night of the Creeps. Thats been a favorite of mine for a very long time. One movie rom the 80's I never hear anyone bring up is The Beast Within. One of the coolest monster transformations I've ever seen. Many people will probably be turned off by the rape scenes, but you understand how things came to play out. If you can get past those scenes you are in for a treat. Not the greatest horror movie of all time, but it is definately worth watching. I love the creepy atmosphere this movie creates.
1. The Fog 2. An American Werewolf in London 3. The Thing 4. The Howling 5. The Fly 6. The Shining 7. Fright Night 8. Aliens 9. Predator 10. Altered States
Superb list. Your top 10 I mostly would include for my top 10, as well. The films you didn't include in a top 50 from the 80's that I would have added are: Frankenhooker, Basket Case, Re-animator, The Gate, The Hidden, Dreamscape, Near Dark, Strange Invaders, The Stuff, and Cat's Eye.
Uhh nice, I love Night of the Creeps, hope you do a review of that.. I'd also suggest 1984's Night of the Comet if you haven't seen it, about two cool badass sisters surviving the zombie apocalypse with that 50s horror scifi vibe.. great double feature those two 😊
I am actually surprised you didn't include the texas chainsaw massacre 2, a horror dark comedy. Happy to see you back on this series. The 80s are my second fave decade and my fave film from this era is the thing aka perfection
Terminator can be viewed as a Horror movie, a Sci-Fi movie, a Romance, a Thriller. Although we could say that about Alien and Aliens as basically they are slasher films but the slasher is an alien picking people off. I'd add Return of the Living Dead and Scanners which were both better than the franchise horror films other than Halloween. I wish someone would make a bigger-budget remake of Scanners
Unlikely to be on anyone's list but I implore you (anyone reading this), watch 1982's Absurd. A little Italian made slasher with glorious gory kills, an astonishing soundtrack, a scruffy, bearded, hairy chested mountain of a man killer who's hazy motivations are only ever incomprehensively explained, terrible dubbing, useless police, a vigilante priest and a typically fever dream narrative flow that can only be 80s Italian filmmaking. Easily in my top 20
If you loved Poltergeist you should watch The Changeling from 1980. Spielberg actually screened that film for the cast and crew of Poltergeist during its production, saying that this was the vibe he wanted. Those two movies are IMO the best supernatural-horror films of all time.
I absolutely love you have Poltergeist 3 on there! i just watched that on Friday! Really love all the videos, especially for October!! Keep up the great work!!
At current, these are my Top 80 Horror Films of the 1980's. (Because 50 just... isn't going to cover it. No way.) Part 2 = 40-1 40. _Basket Case_ - the ending is all kinds of messed up but, before that, it was a super charming Grindhouse tribute 39. _Silver Bullet_ - super exciting, heart racing little werewolf nostalgia yarn told in flashback time jump narration 38. _Halloween III: Season of the Witch_ - Tom Atkins the middle aged sex symbol plus lots of maximum eerieness in music and cinematography 37. _The Company of Wolves_ - metaphor rich, fairly tale-esque parable heavy bedtime story challenging patriarchal sexual taboos 36. _Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan_ - the franchise's most valid attempt at establishing pathos, character building, and backstory 35. _The Dead Come Home_ - very underseen Troma acquisition about college-aged 20-somethings who purchase a haunted house and find out the hard way the living dead who once resided there are still roaming the estate 34. _From Beyond_ - colors, colors, more colors! Fascinating super-biological, interdimensional vortexery, creature feature slime time and S&M 33. _The Lost Boys_ - I hate to be LGBTQ+ and whine about _Twilight_ but it really is terrible. This film is the _Twilight_ that actually works 32. _Sleepaway Camp_ - transgressive, groundbreaking, provocative... a little inexplicable and strange but always cooking up subversion 31. _Fright Night_ - too straight and a little dorky to be perfect or counter-culture but oddly satisfying, undeniably appealing, very entertaining 30. _The Hitcher_ - 80's Americana... which translates to heavy artillery-oriented ultra-violence, crash and burn existentialism and lots of anxiety 29. _Prom Night_ - painfully underrated, poignant slasher gem with elegant murders, a gender-bending killer, nail-biting tension, tons of style and terrific music 28. _Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2_ - irresistible pop crime horror with a mix of delirious, schlocky comic elements and stellar psychological details in the life story accounting of a serial killer with a troubled childhood 27. _The Changeling_ - an emotionally grim and stark ghost story with a touch of radical left wing politics; a tale of woe and accountability 26. _Re-Animator_ - follow the bouncing megalomaniac; an acquired taste but highly rewarding to the palette once acquired 25. _Christine_ - the male Carrie? No: a deeply haunting character study with unbelievably far-reaching implications / accusations against the societal formation of the American nuclear family unit 24. _Phenomena_ - Argento's brilliant take on the parapsychological relationship between humans and insects against the backdrop of a Swiss Alps-marauding murderer 23. _A Nightmare on Elm Street_ - generational gap tensions between parents and children widen as a teen-killing nightmare stalker exposes things his victims' parents wanted to remain hidden 22. _Hellraiser_ - some women weren't cut out to be housewives... 21. _Creepshow_ - morally wayward _Tales from the Crypt_ inspired anthology with the most atmosphere-dripping tales of monster mania ever told! 20. _Inferno_ - Argento's brilliant take on deadly supernatural hysteria breaking out after a lunar eclipse and a secret book full of malevolent magic is passed around New York 19. _Bad Taste_ - aliens land in coastal, small town New Zealand and slaughter the local population for human meat in their outer space fast food franchise only to encounter resistance from out of town investigators armed with machine guns 18. _The Lair of the White Worm_ - Ken Russell's serpentine-vampire religious horror opus with copious psychosexual humor and tonally chilly dream imagery 17. _Evil Dead 2_ / _Dead by Dawn_ - definitely more humorous horror than plain horror but the level of ingenuity reached in this runtime is only to be studied and admired 16. _The Return of the Living Dead_ - surprisingly dark, gruesomely gripping, and occasionally bone chilling party horror flick with world class gore and a ripping punk soundtrack; basically, it's the American _Rabid Grannies_ 15. _The Howling_ - the 80's return of late 60's, early 70's kaleidoscopic, phantasmagoric Fever Horror with a fully loaded ambitious annex mix of media satire, psychological study of the effects of trauma on memory loss, pop fad replacements for religion, class commentary, and city crime commentary... It's a spicy meatball, any way you slice it! 14. _Opera_ - Argento's brilliant take on the loss of connection to humanity and what he termed at the time as the death of love following the AIDS crisis against the backdrop of a killer stalking the cast of an Italian theater ensemble's production of _Macbeth._ 13. _Killer Klowns from Outer Space_ - a sneaky under the counter commentary on the nefariousness of rampant 80's consumerism, suggesting (among many things) a cultlike reliance on material goods; one of the most underrated films of the decade 12. _The Fog_ - John Carpenter's brilliant take on the dangers of blind patriotism, jingoistic ignorance of the evils of colonial settlers [Etc] 11. _Poltergeist_ - Tobe Hooper's brilliant take on the evils of the housing market in prioritizing the interests of raging capitalists over the peace of America's land and families ehhhh, I've said enough. Here's the rest, you either know they're brilliant and highly excellent or you don't: 10. _The Fly_ 9. _An American Werewolf in London_ 8. _The Thing_ 7. _Tenebre_ 6. _Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer_ 5. _The Evil Dead_ 4. _Gremlins_ 3. _Videodrome_ 2. _The Shining_ 1. _Little Shop of Horrors_ (Director's Cut version only)
I don't understand how Halloween 4 gives us two of the most likable major characters in the entire franchise, and the next two films proceed to do both of them, and their actors, the dirtiest any franchise has ever done anyone. I don't think I'll ever stop being mad about that. But anyway, this video gave me a few new movies to put on my backlog, and reminded me to move some others up the list. The Fly and April Fool's Day being the two most noteworthy ones. :)
This was an amazing list. Even though there are some movies that I haven't seen on your list, this was really great. Another thing that I know you've mentioned before that I agree with is if there is one thing that I really love about these old movies, it's just how incredible the posters are. I mean just looking at the posters for the movies you mentioned in this are just so unique and beautiful. But besides the movie posters, I kind of miss when movies used to have a certain vibe like 80s and 90s movies. But I loved this! Thanks so much for this Kylie!
Now this is the type of Haunted Hippie continent that makes me come back for more, my top 30 are… Christine An American Werewolf in London Psycho II Waxwork Society Maniac The Blob My Bloody Valentine Silent Night, Deadly Night Demons (1985) The Shining Sleepaway Camp Fright Night Halloween 3: Season of the Witch Night of the Comet Hellraiser Night of the Demon Night of the Creeps Re-Animator Killer Klowns from Outer Space Chopping Mall Slumber Party Massacre Pieces From Beyond Dark Night of the Scarecrow Videodrome Evil Dead 2 Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives The Thing A Nightmare on Elm Street
I saw The Fly (1986), The Shining (1980) and The Thing (1982) on cable tv in 2000 and 2001. I was born in 1989. I definitely need to re-visit all those 3 movies, because 2000 for example was 23 years ago.
Fright Night 2016 is really good. Even has a cameo by Chris Sarandan. Also, nice to know another Pet Semetery 2 fan! As a proud member of the high school class of 1985, I have just subbed to your channel ..
I miss Predator, Dead Ringer and The Serpent and the Rainbow, however it was a nice top, even if I'm not a big fan of Poltergeist (seem kinda corny for me) And as a recommendation from foreign horror cinema from the 80's: - Something from Dario Argento (either, Tenebre, Phenomena or Inferno), - Lucio Fulci's The Beyond, - Alejandro Jodorowsky's Santa Sangre, - Shinya Tsukamoto's Tetsuo the Iron Man - Lilik Sudijo's Queen of the Black Magic
Fun list. 10 more: BLUE VELVET, SANTA SANGRE, PHENOMENA, THE FOG. THE COOK THE THIEF HIS WIFE & HER LOVER. BASKET CASE, TENEBRE, DEMONS, STAGE FRIGHT. THE HOWLING
Yooo pretty solid list ! I haven’t seen many from here ! I’m dying to watch ‘The Blob’ !! Since you loved the creepshow Anthology cause of the 80s vibes , I feel like you’re gonna love the newest V/H/S 85 film . My top 5 from the 80s are : 1) Hellraiser 2) The Fly 3) The Thing 4) Halloween 3 5) The Lost Boys
I would love to see you do a top 10 or 20 top Horror movies of the Silent Era (1900-1930) Some real nightmare feuk there, especially the Derman Expressionist stuff
Robocop..a horror movie? Ummm, agree to disagree. Pretty solid list, makes me feel good that I've seen most of these movies, the ones I haven't are on my list. And it's GREAT to see someone else give Haloween III some love, it's one of my favorites of the franchise.
I don't know if you've seen these 80s horror movies but they are quite popular in the horror community as well: The Changeling, The Fog, Prom Night (1 and 2), The Beyond, The Burning, Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker, Horror House on Higway Five, The Stuff, House, The Hitcher, From Beyond, Near Dark, The Nest, Night of the Demons, and Society.
Stellar list madam! I absolutely concur that Friday the 13thThe New Blood deserves more love. Tina's showdown with Jason might just be the best of the franchise...though I do go back and forth between Tina and Ginny in Part 2. 💖
Really entertaining video and fantastic list! The 1980s was such a rich and varied decade for horror. No surprise that people's lists are so different. I'm not up to the emotionally draining challenge of ranking 50 movies. How about my favorite movie from each year? 1980 - The Shining 1981 - An American Werewolf in London 1982 - Poltergeist (but ... The Thing really needs some attention, too.) 1983 - The Dead Zone (but ... Psycho II is suprisingly good.) 1984 - A Nightmare on Elm Street 1985 - Fright Night (but ... I also really like Return of the Living Dead) 1986 - Aliens (but ... I also want to pick Little Shop of Horrors) 1987 - Evil Dead II 1988 - They Live 1989 - The 'Burbs
Great list. There are really only a few I would exclude, and the ones you left off that would be high on my list (Evil Dead and Re-Animator) you at least mentioned and just don't dig, so fair enough... but no Aliens? Aliens would probably be my number 2, behind The Thing at 1. And Evil Dead 2 would be like 3. Still, solid list and pretty sure Aliens is an oversight. Some people try to say it's not horror, but if RoboCop and Terminator fit (and I agree that they do), then so does Aliens. I would probably have The Gate and Night of the Demons on my list, too.
Wow. After reading through your comments, I missed a lot, too. Return of the Living Dead, Phenomena, and Demons would be in my top 20 or higher, and Tenebrae would at least make the list.
The 80s is still a decade I've not explored enough, which feels like a crime as a horror fan 😅 But my top 10 currently is: The Terminator, Elvira Mistress Of The Dark, The Evil Dead, The Shining, Halloween 2, Halloween 4, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Hellraiser, Child’s Play, Gremlins
@GanymedeXD You think The Shining isn't horror? And I like to include things that aren't 100% horror. So horror/Sci fi films like The Terminator and Horror Comedies like Elvira are still worthy of my list. That's my personal take 🤷♀️
Good list. I would recommend David Cronenberg's ''Scanners'' and ''Dead Ringers.'' Dream Warriors is my favorite sequel from Nightmare on Elm Street. Halloween 3 season of the witch, is one of my favorites from the series. No need for a remake. I like the ending, left on a cliffhanger, though, I wouldn't mind Halloween moving past, Michael Myers.
Holy crap, I've never seen a movie critic prefer Shelly Duvall's performance over Jack Nicholsons'. I completely agree. She was abused and tormented by Kubrick in order to elicit true terror in her performance. She looked battered and at the end of her rope, so when people try to say her acting was terrible (she got a Razzie for it that was eventually taken back as an apology to her), I'm just wondering what movie people were watching. In comparison, Jack Nicholson, as great as he was, played his part like a cartoon.
Poltergeist as a "comfort movie". Yeah, I know the feeling. My mom took me to horror movies at a young age. By five years old when we went to go see Cujo...I wasnt impressed.
Little Shop of Horrors is so iconic to my life. Tisha Campbell and Tichina Arnold singing ❤❤ Swap Lisa with Grady and I'm fully confident that A Nightmare on Elm Street becomes my favorite piece of art of all time. I need to rewatch Robocop. I saw it as a kid and LOVED it, but I haven't seen it since
I love that I’m not the only one who enjoys the original Friday the 13th. I feel most people don’t like it which I don’t understand. The camp location is perfect & it’s the only movie in the series that feels scary to me. Also Betsy Palmer is great.
Kylie, another exceptional video. I've a soft spot for anything by John Carpenter. I liked The Fog. The Thing ranks up there. Definitely top 10. Aliens, released in 1986, ranks up there too. Halloween III is an underrated classic. I liked that they were going for something different. I also have a soft spot for George Romero's Day of the Dead.
Nic cage’s philosophy is that the job of an actor is to entertain. And oh my, does Vampires Kiss entertain. And its not a phoned in performance! Its VERY deliberate.. unhinged, but not phoned in.
That Robocop VHS is immaculate! Awesome film, nice find. Great top 10. Hellraiser and The Thing are personal favourites. Have you heard the audiobook 'The Hellbound Heart' read by Clive Barker? The opening chapter is unreal
I'm surprised ALIENS, LIFEFORCE and THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD did not make the list. A few favorites of mine from the 1980's.
Return of the Living Dead is easily one of the greatest horror films of all time, imo.
TOP 5
1 - Poltergeist
2 - the thing
3 - robocop
4 - A nightmare on elm street
5 - The Shining
Robocop is not a horror movie 😂😂
I can’t read the first half can you retype it?
I have been a defender of Halloween 3 for such a long time it thrills me that you have an appreciation for that movie. It is certainly the most"Halloween" of all the Halloween movies. It also brings a huge smile to my face that you love RoboCop so much. Having been a kid in love with horror in the 80s these films are so nostalgic to me. Appreciate your channel and all that you do bringing attention to the greatest genre!
It's seriously rad. We can be friends
@doctorstrange4868 Halloween 3 is CRIMINALLY underrated
The biggest missed opportunity of David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy is that Michael’s mask wasn’t his source of power and made by the Silver Shamrock corporation.
I’m a more recent subscriber so I’ve just been binging a lot of your vids, and one of the series I binged was the decade videos. And when I didn’t find one for the 80s, I was like, “wait, why’d she stop making these?” And now you made it. I found you on perfect timing cause now I don’t have to wait as long for this one lol let’s gooo🙌🏻
ahh that's like starting an old show when a new season is coming out, the besttt
I don't know if you've seen "Near Dark", but it's probably worth a spot in the top 50.
I would also mention "Angel Heart" and "Maximum Overdrive" as 80's flicks that are worth your time.
Pet Sematary is one of the scariest flicks of my childhood.
Same. Zelda scared me for life
Nice list Kylie!
1. The Shining
2. The Thing
3. Poltergeist
4. Gremlins
5. The Terminator (could be #1 tbh but If we’re talking horror be considering it horror here it goes)
6. The Lost Boys
7. The Fog
8. Day Of The Dead
9. Videodrome
10. An American Werewolf In London
HM: Child’s Play (JUST missed the list 😭), The Fly, Hellraiser, Possesion, Sleepaway Camp, Friday Part 4.
CREEPSHOW!! Holy shit I forgot creepshow smhhhh
0:07 “Little Wormie Wormies of the darkness” just made me think if that Butterfly episode that gave me nightmares from SpongeBob
Chopping Mall is one silly-ass gem of a film.
A couple 80's movies you might like are "Trick Or Treat" & "The Gate"!😀

Yay!!!
Robocop is a true masterpiece of 80s cinema but it’s not a horror film by any means. The same with Terminator.
Don’t care lol

Btw The Terminator and Robocop would have been on my list, i jist don't personally count them as horror.
Highly recommended if you haven’t seen it
The Shining would be a top notch A24 flick if they existed back then.
Seeing Halloween 3 & Poltergeist 3 on this list made my day, seeing The Thing & Poltergeist as the top 2 made my week 🙃
Like I said back in the day I did top 10 50s, 60s, and 70s but they’re older videos so they make me cringe a bit
OMG! We are finally here! The decade that shaped Generation X! Children wandering the streets with our front door keys tied to our necks, hanging out with our friends whose parents paid for the H.B.O!
Movies not mentioned:
* 1987 The Gate- Tiny baby Stephen Dorff’s first movie!
Replying to my own comment cus I forgot about THE HITCHER 1986. OMG! When Rutger Hauer shows up in the back of that car with those kids! 😳
Elm St 2 being ranked so highly.
We stan an accurate horror queen
And Gremlims respect?!
Praise be the antichrist
AND Halloween 3?!
Ok, next time I’ll watch the whole video being praising your correct opinions!
Unless I blanked out I’m surprised that Killer Klownz From Outerspace wasn’t on the list.
Never liked that one but I’ll try to give it a redemption rewatch eventually
Ok as someone who was 10 yrs old in 1980 and probably saw half of your list in the theaters in their first run I think you did a very good job. However there are some notable ones you left out... The Dead Zone, Scanners, Phantasm 2 and of course freaking ALIENS!!! Have a good one Hippie!
Aliens is the craziest one I missed for sure
Ranking lists are always changing for me. I'll probably never be able to settle fully. But, at current, these are my Top 80 Horror Films of the 1980's. (Because 50 just... isn't going to cover it. No way.)
Part 1 = 80-41
80. _Just Before Dawn_ - eerie camping hillbilly slasher, stalker survival horror
79. _Chud II_ / _Bud the Chud_ - it's extremely goofy but high concept, quirky, and the cast is great

77. _Blades_ - very cheap and the acting is atrocious but it's fun and beautifully shot
76. _Children of the Corn_ - refreshingly haunting music and atmosphere, solid supernatural menace

68. _Burial Ground_ - delicate grindhouse cocktail of beauty, ugliness, and super strange writing
67. _Warlock_ - subgenre pick and mixer; lot of adventure and fantasy with the sinister stalking and witchery
66. _Society_ - wonderfully creepy, high on the surreal factor, fun 80's fashion, notorious ending
65. _Friday the 13th Part 2_ - increased production value and improved camerawork
64. _Deadly Friend_ - Wes Craven's Teenage _Frankenstein._ A little overwrought but always inventive and campy fun
63. _Curtains_ - the Canadian Giallo; performance art horror and galvanizing stylized mayhem

61. _Fear No Evil_ - ultra uninhibited campy occult horror, rife with gay themes and outrageous scenes
60. _Island of the Alive_ - another wacky Larry Cohen gem I found visually dazzling but also sobering and provocative
59. _Dead & Buried_ - steadily mounting tension that rises to incredible peaks, dark and grotesque
58. _Alone In the Dark_ - one of the scariest horror films I've ever seen; prepare for goosebumps

50. _C.H.U.D._ - one of the few non-Romero monster movies that captures the same righteous anger in its social commentary
49. _House_ - rubbery but darkly funny horror comedy, fun pre _Evil Dead 2_ creature feature antics
48. _Anguish_ - one of the first meta, self-aware horror films but still utilizes a lot of unique cinematic devices
47. _Brain Damage_ - total circus of male psychosexual bizarreness, drug metaphors and gay metaphors beget pure havoc

44. _I, Madman_ - chic, infectious, trendy 1989 Horror Noir; sharp, enigmatic; an undiscovered gem
43. _A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors_ - special visual effects extravaganza! A horror nirvana of creativity
42. _The Video Dead_ - as low as you can go, budgetarily, before you arrive at Shot On Video but loaded with ideas
The Lure is a horror musical you might want to check out. It's in Polish and has beautiful set design.
My Top 3 Horror Movies from the 1980s in this order:
1. The Shining (1980)
2. The Thing (1982)
3. An American Werewolf in London (1981)
My dad finally caved much to my mom's chagrin and we watched it together
And it was unbelievably gory and Pumpkinhead was unbelievably creepy and scary as all hell to my 10 year old mind and I absolutely fell in love and have been a MASSIVE horror fan ever since
This is a great list!
LOL
My top 10 -
1. Child's Play
2. Poltergeist
3. Poltergeist 2
4. Halloween 4
5. Pet Semetary
6. Nightmare On Elm Street
7. Hellraiser
8. Friday The 13th 4
9. The Fly
1. The Fog
2. An American Werewolf in London
3. The Thing
4. The Howling
5. The Fly
6. The Shining
7. Fright Night
8. Aliens
9. Predator
This was a lot of fun remembering these movies. I enjoyed all of them. The 80s had many horror movie gems. Great list and great video.
I loved how shining made paranormal beings look like normal people. It makes movie much scarier
I'm so excited to see Bruce Campbell next year y'all he is a legend y'all
Awesome list, love your thoughts on Hellraiser! The "waste of good suffering" line makes me giggle every time.
No way.)
Part 2 = 40-1
40. _Basket Case_ - the ending is all kinds of messed up but, before that, it was a super charming Grindhouse tribute
39. _Silver Bullet_ - super exciting, heart racing little werewolf nostalgia yarn told in flashback time jump narration
38. _Halloween III: Season of the Witch_ - Tom Atkins the middle aged sex symbol plus lots of maximum eerieness in music and cinematography
37. _The Company of Wolves_ - metaphor rich, fairly tale-esque parable heavy bedtime story challenging patriarchal sexual taboos
36. _Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan_ - the franchise's most valid attempt at establishing pathos, character building, and backstory
35. _The Dead Come Home_ - very underseen Troma acquisition about college-aged 20-somethings who purchase a haunted house and find out the hard way the living dead who once resided there are still roaming the estate
34. _From Beyond_ - colors, colors, more colors! Fascinating super-biological, interdimensional vortexery, creature feature slime time and S&M
33. _The Lost Boys_ - I hate to be LGBTQ+ and whine about _Twilight_ but it really is terrible. This film is the _Twilight_ that actually works
32. _Sleepaway Camp_ - transgressive, groundbreaking, provocative... a little inexplicable and strange but always cooking up subversion
31. _Fright Night_ - too straight and a little dorky to be perfect or counter-culture but oddly satisfying, undeniably appealing, very entertaining
30. _The Hitcher_ - 80's Americana... which translates to heavy artillery-oriented ultra-violence, crash and burn existentialism and lots of anxiety
29. _Prom Night_ - painfully underrated, poignant slasher gem with elegant murders, a gender-bending killer, nail-biting tension, tons of style and terrific music
28. _Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2_ - irresistible pop crime horror with a mix of delirious, schlocky comic elements and stellar psychological details in the life story accounting of a serial killer with a troubled childhood
27. _The Changeling_ - an emotionally grim and stark ghost story with a touch of radical left wing politics; a tale of woe and accountability
26. _Re-Animator_ - follow the bouncing megalomaniac; an acquired taste but highly rewarding to the palette once acquired
25. _Christine_ - the male Carrie? No: a deeply haunting character study with unbelievably far-reaching implications / accusations against the societal formation of the American nuclear family unit
24. _Phenomena_ - Argento's brilliant take on the parapsychological relationship between humans and insects against the backdrop of a Swiss Alps-marauding murderer
23. _A Nightmare on Elm Street_ - generational gap tensions between parents and children widen as a teen-killing nightmare stalker exposes things his victims' parents wanted to remain hidden
22. _Hellraiser_ - some women weren't cut out to be housewives...
21. _Creepshow_ - morally wayward _Tales from the Crypt_ inspired anthology with the most atmosphere-dripping tales of monster mania ever told!
20. _Inferno_ - Argento's brilliant take on deadly supernatural hysteria breaking out after a lunar eclipse and a secret book full of malevolent magic is passed around New York
19. _Bad Taste_ - aliens land in coastal, small town New Zealand and slaughter the local population for human meat in their outer space fast food franchise only to encounter resistance from out of town investigators armed with machine guns
18. _The Lair of the White Worm_ - Ken Russell's serpentine-vampire religious horror opus with copious psychosexual humor and tonally chilly dream imagery
17. _Evil Dead 2_ / _Dead by Dawn_ - definitely more humorous horror than plain horror but the level of ingenuity reached in this runtime is only to be studied and admired
16. _The Return of the Living Dead_ - surprisingly dark, gruesomely gripping, and occasionally bone chilling party horror flick with world class gore and a ripping punk soundtrack; basically, it's the American _Rabid Grannies_
14. _Opera_ - Argento's brilliant take on the loss of connection to humanity and what he termed at the time as the death of love following the AIDS crisis against the backdrop of a killer stalking the cast of an Italian theater ensemble's production of _Macbeth._
13. _Killer Klowns from Outer Space_ - a sneaky under the counter commentary on the nefariousness of rampant 80's consumerism, suggesting (among many things) a cultlike reliance on material goods; one of the most underrated films of the decade
12. _The Fog_ - John Carpenter's brilliant take on the dangers of blind patriotism, jingoistic ignorance of the evils of colonial settlers [Etc]
11. _Poltergeist_ - Tobe Hooper's brilliant take on the evils of the housing market in prioritizing the interests of raging capitalists over the peace of America's land and families
ehhhh, I've said enough. Here's the rest, you either know they're brilliant and highly excellent or you don't:
10. _The Fly_
9. _An American Werewolf in London_
8. _The Thing_
7. _Tenebre_
6. _Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer_
5. _The Evil Dead_
4. _Gremlins_
3. _Videodrome_
2. _The Shining_
1. _Little Shop of Horrors_ (Director's Cut version only)
Oh no! Halloween 5 might be my favorite of the franchise 🙈🙈🙈 it gets so much hate but i love all the scenes in the creepy myers house 😂
Lol. Stop. Let’s not forget Reverend Jackson. @@travzimmerman1340
Personally, I think Waxwork (1988) deserves an honorable mention.
Now this is the type of Haunted Hippie continent that makes me come back for more, my top 30 are…
Christine
An American Werewolf in London
Psycho II
Waxwork
Society
Maniac
The Blob
My Bloody Valentine
Silent Night, Deadly Night
Demons (1985)
The Shining
Sleepaway Camp
Fright Night
Halloween 3: Season of the Witch
Night of the Comet
Hellraiser
Night of the Demon
Night of the Creeps
Re-Animator
Killer Klowns from Outer Space
Chopping Mall
Slumber Party Massacre
Pieces
From Beyond
Dark Night of the Scarecrow
Videodrome
Evil Dead 2
Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives
The Thing
A Nightmare on Elm Street
I saw The Fly (1986), The Shining (1980) and The Thing (1982) on cable tv in 2000 and 2001. I was born in 1989. I definitely need to re-visit all those 3 movies, because 2000 for example was 23 years ago.
Fright Night 2016 is really good. Even has a cameo by Chris Sarandan. Also, nice to know another Pet Semetery 2 fan! As a proud member of the high school class of 1985, I have just subbed to your channel
..
I miss Predator, Dead Ringer and The Serpent and the Rainbow, however it was a nice top, even if I'm not a big fan of Poltergeist (seem kinda corny for me)
And as a recommendation from foreign horror cinema from the 80's:
- Something from Dario Argento (either, Tenebre, Phenomena or Inferno),
- Lucio Fulci's The Beyond,
- Alejandro Jodorowsky's Santa Sangre,
- Shinya Tsukamoto's Tetsuo the Iron Man
- Lilik Sudijo's Queen of the Black Magic
Fun list. 10 more:
BLUE VELVET, SANTA SANGRE, PHENOMENA, THE FOG. THE COOK THE THIEF HIS WIFE & HER LOVER. BASKET CASE, TENEBRE, DEMONS, STAGE FRIGHT. THE HOWLING
Yooo pretty solid list ! I haven’t seen many from here ! I’m dying to watch ‘The Blob’ !! Since you loved the creepshow Anthology cause of the 80s vibes , I feel like you’re gonna love the newest
V/H/S 85 film . My top 5 from the 80s are :
1) Hellraiser
2) The Fly
3) The Thing
4) Halloween 3
5) The Lost Boys
I would love to see you do a top 10 or 20 top Horror movies of the Silent Era (1900-1930) Some real nightmare feuk there, especially the Derman Expressionist stuff
If you want to see where The Terminator took most of it’s ideas from, check out Westworld from 1973. One of Yul Brynner’s iconic roles.
Night of the Demons is so 80s as fuck! It's probably my second favorite film to watch on Halloween next to "Trick r Treat"
Well spoken, fashionable, organized, opinionated, and horror. Subbed. ⭐
The 80's were my teenage years (yep, I'm super old!), thanks for the wonderful and bloody walk down memory lane!
1980 - The Shining
1981 - An American Werewolf in London
1982 - Poltergeist (but ... The Thing really needs some attention, too.)
1983 - The Dead Zone (but ... Psycho II is suprisingly good.)
1984 - A Nightmare on Elm Street
1985 - Fright Night (but ... I also really like Return of the Living Dead)
1986 - Aliens (but ... I also want to pick Little Shop of Horrors)
1987 - Evil Dead II
1988 - They Live
1989 - The 'Burbs
Charlie Brooker, do a remake of Halloween III in your dark Black Mirror style! 🎃
Yea aliens is the one super important one I totally forgot and I KNEW I was missing something
Awesome List! I love that you put Robocop on here! It’s one of my Favorites! I have to check out several movies from this list! Good Stuff!
The 80s is still a decade I've not explored enough, which feels like a crime as a horror fan 😅
But my top 10 currently is: The Terminator, Elvira Mistress Of The Dark, The Evil Dead, The Shining, Halloween 2, Halloween 4, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Hellraiser, Child’s Play, Gremlins
@GanymedeXD You think The Shining isn't horror? And I like to include things that aren't 100% horror. So horror/Sci fi films like The Terminator and Horror Comedies like Elvira are still worthy of my list. That's my personal take 🤷♀️
Ah I've missed this series! Looking forward to this 💜🖤💜🖤
Yes!!! Thank you!!! The Terminator IS a slasher. Its unstoppable killer just prefers guns and explosives to blades.
Seeing Evil Dead 2 so low was a kick in the nuts, but each their own 😆
I was happy to see so much love for the Friday the 13th franchise on this list. Jason forever!
But Videodrome rules
Poltergeist as a "comfort movie". Yeah, I know the feeling. My mom took me to horror movies at a young age. By five years old when we went to go see Cujo...I wasnt impressed.
"Hello my little maggots" - immediately subscribed 😂😂😂
Little Shop of Horrors is so iconic to my life. Tisha Campbell and Tichina Arnold singing ❤❤
Swap Lisa with Grady and I'm fully confident that A Nightmare on Elm Street becomes my favorite piece of art of all time.
Just thought of one I recommend if you haven’t seen it. The House on Sorority Row. One of my favorite 80s slasher
Nic cage’s philosophy is that the job of an actor is to entertain. And oh my, does Vampires Kiss entertain.
And its not a phoned in performance! Its VERY deliberate.. unhinged, but not phoned in.
Yeah...definitely wanna see that fright night old vs remake comparison. The new one is fun.
I am fascinated by your dislike of the first 2 Evil Dead movies! I love them, but I respect your opinion
@HauntedHippie as you said you like Goo... What is your take on the album "A Boy Named Goo"? 😁
That Robocop VHS is immaculate! Awesome film, nice find. Great top 10. Hellraiser and The Thing are personal favourites. Have you heard the audiobook 'The Hellbound Heart' read by Clive Barker? The opening chapter is unreal
My Bloody Valentine is my favorite standalone slasher flick.
Thank you for making these lists. So make to add to my watchlist!
If you liked 'The Toxic Avenger', check out 'Class Of Nuke Em High'! They exist in the same universe of Tromaville! 💚
I experienced the 80s my teenage years
We don't care.
