Honestly, making complicated beats is just flexing on other producers, rappers don't really care. My highest selling beats are the ones with a 4/8 Bar melody loop and coming/going drums.
Hi!Man First off your beats are awesome. I'd like to start putting my beats out there but not sure where to start, I mean I can get a Beatstars account but how do I drive traffic to my page and all? Your response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
As a sound ingeneer, i sometimes work with rapers, and they give me beats bought online to work with, so i can relate that (if it can help producers out there) : 1. they are very well mixed (even a "one sample one beat" beat, very well mixed, will be a lot more attractive than a very well composed one with a poor mix) 2. they are very simple (drums, bass, 2 instruments, that's the classic setup, no crazy layers everywere) 3. Arrangement : usually the beats they like place the hook right after the intro. Intro (4/8 bars) then hook (4/8 bars), then verse (8/16 bars), repeat. With the verse first, you delay the "wow effect" too much when they are listening beats on leasing platforms (zapping syndrome) Hope this can help some of you guys, Good luck ! ;)
I'm a pop producer and I'm in awe by how much this selling beat "industry" is mostly evolving around Rap music!! I feel like everyone is producing the same rap beat!! It's pretty hard to find a producer that stands out
I completely agree with you, my top selling beats usually have: -a simple but catchy melody -are minimalistic with not a lot of instrument so it's very easy to get a clean mix -have a good arrangement. Usually when I make a complex beat with tons off instruments I think it's a banger but everybody else is like "yeah, its ok" but when i make something really simple that I don't think it's really good people say it's lit. Funny but true
Really informative video man! Great content as always. My most sold beats: - Usually have lots of bass - Non generic drums - Have a DOPE sample, looped or chopped up. I'm so glad you mentioned the tempo too, I noticed that my most sold beats are around 80 - 100.
1. There's a uniform key and scale that someone can write a melodic hook to. 2. Composition is easy to mix and master. I'm guilty of producing compositions that are difficult to mix and master because they have sounds that occupy too much of the frequency spectrum or occupy the same frequency range as the artists voice. 3. Get out of the way of the artist. When you produce instrumentals for your own acclaim get as crazy as you want, but no one listens to Kendrick to hear his producer. Nothing against his production it's awesome, but you can hear on Damn how they just kept it really low key to let Kenny do the entertainment. The song is about the artist, not about the producer.
Great video, these are things I've been learning over the past couple of months, no sales yet, but I'm confident I'm building something that will be fruitful and last.
youre right my brotha.. i just got back from LA on a business trip to NAMM and ive been told what you said by huge people.. i met the legend Bootsy Collins and got to talk to him and he said the SAME THING!!!! i appreciate you king bc if it wasnt for you i wouldnt have been able to network at THAT level.
Well, something to remember is that the producers who have tons of things in their rap tracks are producers who WORK WITH AN ARTIST while they're recording. A lot of the things they add to the track get added AFTER the rap is recorded. As producers online who sell beats to artists we don't know, we need to leave a lot of space for their raps.
I mean my top 3 I can say I have sold only 3 but whatever : 1. Emotional melody so emotional that you can get cry on it. 2. Drums matching those melodies and trust me leave a space a small space where uh wanna add a cowbell or a shaker leave at the rappers he gonna cover that up for uh. 3. When uh make beat only make when uh really are eager to make one don't make for the purpose of uploading! PEACE!✌️
I think my highest selling beats are the ones that are straight to the point. Not boring but just enough to where I’m not trying to have the light and it’s weird cause I had that beat finished in days whereas one that I think it’s gonna be the beast is taking life:.. thank you for the epiphany
sick video, you hear these stories over and over again about the most basic beats getting sold/placed. When are we gonna learn its not about us, we are in service to the people!
I'm a rapper/producer so I dont sell my beats even though I could but I wouldn't be able to hold a steady flow of beats to supply other rapper though it would be a great way to network and market my music but I'm happy just producing for myself mainly because I can't afford beats and I want full rights but this video helped me because with that concept you spoke about it gave me the idea to go over my songs and see what ones people like the most and find the reasons they like them better then my other ones and implement it into my next song but experiment a bit further not only in hopes of a hit song but to create more originality to device me from the others
I still haven’t sold a beat 😔 but the ones that I have got the most plays with are: 1) simple (it’s hard cuz I know so much music and orchestration I tend to be busy) 2) tend to be in the 70- 80 bpm range 3) are mixed the best. Mixing and masters has a steep learning curve for sure.
Gabez colenso hey Gabez, I have sold some beats. I’m in a bit of a different position as I’ve been a professional musician in nyc for 20 years prior to posting beats on line. So my sales have come more from my own network more so than other places. Although i do have a few rappers that buy from my BeatStars and random sales here and there i guess from just putting up hundreds of beats. Also I have sold some melody loop kits too. Hope this answers your question. Definitely not making enough to quit my day job.
Man this was a dope vid!! I dont actually have a website or anything, but I DO kno the experience of takin time on a beat and letting ppl hear it and then they're like "yo thats too dope to rap on" and a beat that I took like 15 mins to make they like "Yo that's hard! I need that"
One of my beats that i barely put effort in didnt really care much for made over 50k views and sold the most. i will never understand music even tho i been doing music for over 15 years.
Hey bro, this is so true. Some days I spend so much time on a beat I’m not feeling the groove and it ends up being nearly bout 30 tracks or so. So much nonsense that’s not needed. Then I make a beat that’s got 16 tracks only and is dope as and I get that hair standing up feeling. Sometimes I push it too much through pressure of wanting to be successful rather than just letting the natural ability flow. This is a great video Curtiss, something I new I was already doing but needed to hear it voiced. Why do we do that lol. Thanks bro. 💯💯
When u said about the higher bpms sell better for you i could relate , ive made tons of beats and the only ones i ever sell bmp is between 90 and 100 and they sell good.
My top played beat is one of the most simple beats ive made and that goes with soundcloud youtube and beatstars. Your sayin some real shit here, not that making a simple beat is whats gonna sell but that direct influence to a beat definitely has an impact man props to curtiss king
Im have never made a beat. But I play keys so whenever I hear a song. .i know the perfect beat and melody for each song. Personally, I like piano sounds with a hard ass beat. Simple example. Kanye And Beyonce. Ego. Or Kanye Everything I am. Or Whiz and Snoop Young wild and free. So whenever I begin producing beats these will be my first
🙋😫 I'm guilty of overproducing. I here a lot that people want to just listen to my music ...as is. And it hurts my inner timbo persona lol It is so true that the least complicated ones get the most love. Maybe I'll put out an instrumental album 🤔. Thanks again King for the insight🙌💪🏁
Can u make a vid about finding good rappers on social media and sending beats as a producer? Not a beat maker. I’ve worked with a rapper like this. I sent a track, he rapped on it in another studio, sent me his vocals, and I mixed and uploaded the song. I want to find more people like this but so many people r used to taking the song and having it for themselves
Lol I like it. Its hard to do totally different styles. Find a way to bring all those elements together and make something "new" I mean...I have no clue what folk Latin pop beats sound like but uh..fuck it you know ?
Hey, I love the content. It really helps me Alot throughout my process as an entertainer. My question is: Is it better to listen to the voices in your head or to follow your heart while pursuing your goal as an Artist?
Honestly, making complicated beats is just flexing on other producers, rappers don't really care.

Hi!Man First off your beats are awesome. I'd like to start putting my beats out there but not sure where to start, I mean I can get a Beatstars account but how do I drive traffic to my page and all? Your response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
most rappers prefer a simple beat. easier to rap over.
Your comment just blessed me!!
Yessir simplicity is what sells
Thats a good point man!! I starting to realize that the simpler the better!!

Gotta be careful working with Rapers.
precious
Clayton... lmfaoo... I see what you did there.
Thanks man, great post. 😊😊
Check out my beats! I'd appreciate it
I'm a pop producer and I'm in awe by how much this selling beat "industry" is mostly evolving around Rap music!! I feel like everyone is producing the same rap beat!!
It's pretty hard to find a producer that stands out
I feel that too
and they’re being churned out faster than you can imagine. CashMoneyAp on his livestream goes “yeah we made 15 beats yesterday”
My highest played beat is just some chords, a melody, and drums. Not hi hat rolls just simple kick, snare with basic hats.
Check out my beats! I'd appreciate it
I completely agree with you, my top selling beats usually have:

Leave A Legacy got me fukd up, as a creator you like to push . But customers don't see that, they like simple 🙃
I completely agree
Good advice
Yup
thats fax, when I make a beat and I be like: "ehhh, this beat isnt that good maybe i wont upload it", few days later... [SOLD]

MY favorite part of this whole video:
You differentiated trap rappers and lyricists.
Thank you.

Jesse Greathouse best answer
Check out my beats! I'd appreciate it
things in common with my top-performing beats:
1. based on a specific song
2. Simple beats, not too many instruments
3. Intentional Mood
Great video, these are things I've been learning over the past couple of months, no sales yet, but I'm confident I'm building something that will be fruitful and last.
Logirhythm I feel the same! Best of luck in your endeavors bro 🙏🏼🔥🔥🔥

To sell beats you damn near have to produce at the level you were at 5+ years ago to make money today.
Shits crazy.
Check out my beats! I'd appreciate it
Lol my most played beats has "FREE" in the title
S'Bling OnTheTrack lmao 😂
Sold bout 100 exclusives since this time last year. Various styles but quality and consistant
DEVIZE BEATS show me the way 👀
I think my highest selling beats are the ones that are straight to the point. Not boring but just enough to where I’m not trying to have the light and it’s weird cause I had that beat finished in days whereas one that I think it’s gonna be the beast is taking life:.. thank you for the epiphany
All my most played/purchased beats have: (1) violin (2) trap/808 heavy beats (3) very well mixed
sick video, you hear these stories over and over again about the most basic beats getting sold/placed. When are we gonna learn its not about us, we are in service to the people!

1. drums are crazy! and the visual (video) just takes you to another planet
2. great sample
3. agressive!
Space for the artist and simplicity. You hit both points and more.

Beaty Money have you sold a beat yet ? How’s the progress now ? Would like to know ... been making beats for years but never been able to sell 1 🤦🏽♂️

You made too much sense. Thx. When i become successful with this ill definitely give you a shout out.
This is probably the most accurate video, spoke right to me. Thank you for the value Curtis 💯
Hey bro, this is so true. Some days I spend so much time on a beat I’m not feeling the groove and it ends up being nearly bout 30 tracks or so. So much nonsense that’s not needed. Check out my beats! I'd appreciate it
+Curtis King TV - Been watching your vids since yesterday. You just got yourself a new subscriber.
My top beats usually:
1- Have a catchy melody
2- are a little simplistic
3- are inspired from other people's beats or music that's not even hiphop
The beats I sell most are the most simple beats that took little to no time to make lol
No matter who the listener is, there’s all gotta be room for them
Great channel man, just subscribed!!
my highest played beat is just trap drums over pokemon music
My top played beat is one of the most simple beats ive made and that goes with soundcloud youtube and beatstars. Your sayin some real shit here, not that making a simple beat is whats gonna sell but that direct influence to a beat definitely has an impact man props to curtiss king
the second he started talking i knew he was going to be helpful
Great vid Curtiss King... we need an updated tutorial from you bro for 2024. Has anything changed in your method since 2018?
Always spittin facts
Everything you said is true wow !! I can relate
Great video curtis!
Simplicity man, Simplicity

Two words Crazy gr8 dopevideo
Watching your videos ive always loved that song on your outro. Where can i listen to it?
This is some good stuff 👏
Strings and Hard body drums is my thing.
1) moog bass 2) simple constructions 3) melodic
The nostrils flaring had me dying!🤣🤣🙃😂😂
the vocals be the main instrument as per most beats
That’s boss. Best advice ever
1) they're all samples
2) they're fairly simple
3) drums
This is great advice
No lie this is an eye opener for me
🙋😫 I'm guilty of overproducing. I here a lot that people want to just listen to my music ...as is. And it hurts my inner timbo persona lol It is so true that the least complicated ones get the most love. Maybe I'll put out an instrumental album 🤔. Thanks again King for the insight🙌💪🏁

Good stuff bro!
i noticed the beats i make that has so many plays are beats i make with PADS .
Pretty strange my top views are 1 pop rap, 1 folk and 1 Latin beat... I m lost 😀
Lol I like it. Its hard to do totally different styles. Find a way to bring all those elements together and make something "new" I mean...I have no clue what folk Latin pop beats sound like but uh..fuck it you know ?
Thanks for your words ;)
Sonically Different,Makes You want to rap, Very Catchy
also follow the top 100 charts, look at thos songs, now make thos type beats
Nostrils be flaring 😂 real talk Mr. King 🙏🏼🔥🔥🔥
Appreciate you Bro.
Hey, I love the content. It really helps me Alot throughout my process as an entertainer. My question is:
Is it better to listen to the voices in your head or to follow your heart while pursuing your goal as an Artist?
Listen to references of your style and those voices will naturally come to your head
Can you do a video on starting the right team as a producer?
Dope Vid Dawg
Dope ! I didn't hear but dope !
I've been doing music for about month and half. What words you have for me.
What was there not to like?? All good info in my opinion.
Simple.
They simple with nice bass
A melody that is sort of hard to figure out like you can't quite piece the notes together.
Oh and simple
"Man f a piano Im bout to put these synthesizers on there" "why you so aggressive?" lmao I haven't related to anything more while making a beat
Good info
Best selling beats I’ve had were simple, only 2 instruments and dope high hats
Deliberate = Fresh
Gz where have you been. I’m about start making beats that can sell.
Catchy Hook /Melody
Hard Hitn Drums
Sound selection
