I disagree. VESA screws holes should be mandatory but not used by default as its use case depends heavily on each setup. What is the point of having a VESA edge mounted arm (or a VESA destop stand) if the sceen is planned to be wallmounted or if it's planned to hide a SFF PC case behind it? Just let the VESA mount for optional products from the manufacturer or third-parties.
I agree that a sweet monitor arm is a must. Which is why i already have a sweet monitor arm already. I am upgrading my monitor, what am I supposed to do with my $300 dual monitor arm?
@itsmehighguy7639 I hope you got it. I literally got up to silver on valo specifically because it’s so smooth. (I’ve been playing for 2 months and I’m new to pc gaming)
I just bought 2 of these for 400. Since I dont know jackshit about monitors I just stepped in Micro Center and asked for 2 monitors, bro told me these came with the arm and I said fuck it we ball and got 2. Now im looking at the reviews and im feeling better about it
It would especially be interesting to see how the cheaper ones measure up (Bargain stuff from Amazon/Ebay) vs the much more expensive stuff. I bought an Ergotron MX ages ago for a whopping €120, many years later I bought a very similar arm from Amazon for about a third of that price and in my experience they're pretty darn similar. The Ergotron MX has thumbscrews instead of regular screws to mount the monitor, which is nice, but not three times the price nice. Build quality, supported monitor weight and range are about the same. I feel like it's a market where they just charge random numbers because no one bothers comparing them. It could be interesting for those that never considered a monitor arm to get the benefits of one highlighted - I personally don't plan on ever going back to a normal monitor stand (if the monitor doesn't support VESA mounting it's not the monitor for me). My deskspace is precious, the additional adjustability is awesome and it makes cleaning the desk a heck of a lot easier as well.
I just picked up one of these yesterday, It came highly recommended and it was on sale. It wasn't until I got home that I thought maybe it was so well recommended because they were trying to get rid of overstock. Good to see the specs in line with other monitors I was looking at like the MSI g274qpf-qd. I cannot believe these were listed at $500 last year, I feel much better about the $195 price tag I paid for it.
Tim, you have perfected your monitor review format. Great details, extremely good pacing of delivery. Not a wasted second. Well done man, very well done.
I was able to get this monitor on sale for $180 (and was gonna get a monitor stand anyways) so this gave me INCREDIBLE value, especially since he said that comparable monitors would be the in 300-ish range.
It would be awesome if you did a review (or maybe an explainer/roundup video) looking at monitor arms. I'm looking for an arm/stand that can take a heavy ultrawide that will also allow me to position the screen above another one. I want the new Alienware ultrawide but I also want to keep my current one, however my desk isn't wide enough for two ultrawides next to each other!
I just got one on Black Friday sale for about $250 and seeing this review I'm glad i did so. It seems like a really good value product for how much i paid for it.
@@talktotask-ub5fh Yeah, I use it everyday for few hours and so far it works pretty great. No defects, dead pixels or bleeding in my unit. It doesn't overheat like either unlike my last monitor. Can't really complain for now.
There are more benefits to mounts: The space below your screen opens up, and the screen can be placed higher which is generally more ergonomic. I'm using a 3rd party mount for two 25" screens and it's great!
The ergonomic position for a monitor is where your eye level is at the top of the screen, and I've not seen a monitor with too low stand, it's the opposite, most of the stands look like they won't go low enough especially for a 27" panel. With the desk space I 100% agree. For gaming I want to have my arms straight at my keyboard and still be able to have close viewing distance for immersion, which means the keyboard must be able to go partially under the monitor. For this you don't need an expensive monitor arm though, what you need centered stand that is a combination of narrow, flat and as far back as possible (the heavier stand, the more forward-protruding the screen can be). My MSI QRF-QD has that. Though in terms of shopping for a new keyboard, some keyboard legs are mounted unnecessarily towards the middle and not at the far sides, another lack of attention to detail of the industry, which limits the horizontal placement relative to monitor, so for maximum compatibility with keyboardsthe monitor stand could be even more narrow. If sideways stabilility is an issue, then just make the stand widen towards the back. Sadly most monitors have these crazy long and protruding legs for cool marketing, and it's just not practical for my use. The newly announced Asus OLED looks otherwise good but with that stand, nah.
@@rtyzxc That's because a lot of people have their desks too high, which makes you sit with raised shoulders. Most desk postures are wrong on so many levels.
I would love to see a review of the NZXT Canvas lineup from you Tim. Reviews for those are pretty sparse and it would be interesting to hear your perspective about NZXT's decision to sell a panel-only variant alongside the usual version with a stand.
@@RichWhiteUM It's not silly. NZXT is giving it's customers options. They know that there are those us out here that already have a VESA monitor arm and don't need a desk stand, and NZXT gives you the option to just buy the monitor. Want to place it on top of your desk? Get the desk stand. Don't want to put it on top of your desk? Buy the desk arm mount.
Any chance of reviewing a bunch of monitor arms? I really want an easy to move around arm that copes with my 8kg ultrawide. I bought a rather long XP version of the Adapt Spacearm series but it isn't quite what I was hoping. Sure I can move my monitor, but it keeps wobbling about and it bends way more than it should. I also didn't think about it before buying, but a spring loaded vesa mount is basically a must. This one has a friction ball joint and adjusting it is a pain. It's extremely difficult and takes a lot of force to get the tilt right. It also doesn't necessarily stay put if you extend it all the way, the whole arm bends so much that the centre of gravity shifts and the monitor rotates to a different position on its own.
While an adjustable gas-spring monitor arm is a solid must-have in my book it seems a bit of an error to only offer a monitor with one at a price premium. Even though I wouldn't have a monitor without one I already have three along with the conventional stands that came with the monitors that are currently mounted. I don't want to pay for a new one with a new monitor.
I discovered by changing the colour settings in the Nvidia Control Panel, I can make the HDR mode in Windows 11 for the display look very nice and colour accurate.
I'm getting rid of any Monitorstands for years now. Every Monitor immediately gets hung on a Monitor Arm, it just gives much more Motionrange and frees up alot of desk real estate. Having one included is defenitly a plus.
I too would be very interested in a review of monitor arms, especially those for 27" and 32" monitors. The dual monitor one I have (one monitor stacked above the other) isn't very good.
I got the LG32gp850 by the last recommendation and only thing i can tell is that there is no QC by the looks of it. First one severe backlightbleeding, second one dead pixels now returning it for the last time... after that i'm done with the GP850. It's almost sad that this is the state of quality going forward.
The special part of the armada monitors is the microcenter prices. I would ignore the prices in the review. At release the 1080p 240hz model was $130. The 1440p 165hz model was like $170. The prices have now risen at microcenter so its less of a deal, but still better priced than other monitors.
How do these compare to the Dell G2724D? Might just get this since it can be purchased from Microcenter for $230, and I wouldn't have to buy direct through Dell's website.
Wish these were still available. Only bought one, and legit the stand is awesome. Was considering buying a Dell G2724D as a backup monitor, but I keep hearing about Dell bait-and-switching the panel after getting all of the nice reviews.
I think that monitor manufacturers should split their monitors into three different product lines... One that comes with the standard monitor stand and one with an VESA arm stand and one without any stand. That way consumers get to choose which one they need instead based on their situation. Save $40 to get the the monitor without stand version or pick between a standard monitor stand or a VESA arm stand for extra money.
Wonder if you have ever had to do a re-shoot because you opened with "Welcome back to Hardware Unboxed." Hehehe. Am now a regular viewer here too, and I think many others are, as well.
Would LOVE to see you review a monitor like an Eizo 2740, just to give some context and a baseline for what the creative industry sees as the gold standard in color accuracy. I know this review is somewhat dated, and I generally agree with the review regarding pricing. That said, I just picked this up for $150 which I think is great for QHD 2550x1440 27" monitor. HyperX lists the mounting arm by itself for $100.
I've been using a monitor arm for a decade or so. I can't imagine using a regular mount. I'm tall so if I'd want to have the monitors top bezel at eye level, I'd need to stack like 10 books on my desk.
Oh shit man, I am sorry. I have been watching these vids thinking I was already subscribed this whole time, until I realized this is a whole other channel.
Tim, would you be willing to review the LG Dual-Up monitor? I think it's the first one to try packaging that desk arm that I know of. It's definitely not a gaming monitor but I was really keen on it since it was leaked, then shown off at E3. Productivity reviews seem to rave about the benefits of the aspect ratio but I would like to get a thorough in depth review on the more technical side of things
Funny that I can buy that stand by itself from HP shop in my country (central Europe) for 150€ - which means that monitor could go to as low as 400 without it. However, I guess it still would not happen, as in my country the M27QX goes for 600€ and is the last one in stock, everything else that is in any way "okay" for gaming monitor that you have review for is either massively overpriced or not in stock.. xD Seems I need to wait for summer again until the rest of the world stops buying everything...
I actually quite like this monitor, if only it was cheaper. The sRGB mode is great, it's fast enough, high contrast for an IPS, fantastic ergonomics. On a sale this could be a great buy
I just saw this HyperX arm/stand yesterday, and it seems nice. But I feel the price ($250 in Norway it seems) is too high. I'd rather go for something with more reach and that I know is excellent, Ergotron, and pay a bit more cause it's bigger with more reach.
Hey, could you please talk about gaming monitors and eye strain. No one talks about it. Could you maybe make a list of gaming monitors that are easy on the eyes? Would really be appreciated.
Good third party mounts start at 30€ on amazon, for example the amazon basics one(which I bought for under 30€ brand new for wall mount). No need for a 50 to 100$/€ mount for a single monitor if it's not a TV.
I have the double armed amazon basics version for over a year now. Its excellent! When I was doing research online a lot of people seemed to suggest that its from the same manufacturer that Ergotron uses.
@@danielh12345 I read pretty much the same things when I was searching for mine(single monitor arm), it's been 3 years since I've had it and I have NO issue with it. It's been and still is perfect and I manipulate it quite a lot. It's a tank. On the video though, my opinion is that every monitor should come with the option to buy the screen alone or with an arm. It's only beneficial. I don't see the use case for a standard stand for a monitor. At all. I'll never go back, EVER. It would also be cheaper to get the screen alone if you already have a arm. or plan to buy one. Less material waste AND cheaper shipping cost due to less weight of the box.
@@Dubistader I agree, although having the stand can be quite nice still if you have the storage space. I had my monitor mounted forever, then had a new desk delivered. Still had to work that day, so took it off the mount, put it on the stand and moved the desk. Then had a few days to set up the new desk and cable manage etc. The stand was nice to have for that reason I guess... But in general, I very much agree. My use case doesn't happen often haha
@@danielh12345 Oh! You are right. I can see that. Maybe I'm to focus on my use case. I have 2 monitors and both stands went to the recycling center as soon as they were unboxed. 😅 I don't plan on selling them either so I don't need the stands.
It would be a good watch to see a roundup of adjustable monitor arms get reviewed.
Yes, please. Also for 27 Inch, 32, and 34. TBH 27-inch flat panel and 34-inch curved one for AW3423DWF.
A good adjustable VESA mount is a must-have for any monitor IMO. It's nice to see it included out of the box.

I disagree. VESA screws holes should be mandatory but not used by default as its use case depends heavily on each setup. What is the point of having a VESA edge mounted arm (or a VESA destop stand) if the sceen is planned to be wallmounted or if it's planned to hide a SFF PC case behind it?

Microcenter is selling these now at 199 for black friday. Wonder if thats worth it then for the price vs an Asus TUF display.
My g27q 1440p, 144Hz monitor caps at 60Hz when using 4k DSR. How do I fix that?
Is this worth it for 300? It was on sale for 200 but I missed it, its on sale for 300 on another site, worth it or nah?
how do you do the hardware calibration that you mention @7:04 with deltaE below 3?

Samsung G8 OLED review anytime soon?
Now I will buy it for $180
please Tim, i beg you, please review some of the newer budget 1080p240 and 1080p270 monitors (Viewsonic XG2431, Asus XG249CM and Dell S2225HG).
There's no point reviewing outdated tech. 1080p monitors are not worth buying anymore.
would love to see the aw2723df tested not sure how different it is from aw2721d
I don't plan on selling them either so I don't need the stands.
Microcenter recieving lots of them back my local one has like 7 open box from people who dient like them i think as low as $120
please, do a armada 25 review
but given the price ($130 for the 25" and $199 for 27")
I got mine for 159 at micro center
Its 200$ rn, worth?
I bought 27GP850 for $300. The price is too high here to consider.
USB KVM is such a deal breaker for me lately. 😅
so from what im understanding this monitor sold so poorly that it is now the cheapest 1440p ips 144hz+ monitor at microcenter
Was too excited.. now they're selling great at $180
Is it worth for €199 in europe? Someone answer pls
This thing is $499? I would think there would be better for that price. the Cooler Master Tempest with HDR.
