Good review, Zach! I hadn't even heard of A Family Affair until last night... This trio of actors... LOVE all three... But all three, TOGETHER??!! Huh??!! Lol... Ugh... Might have to check this one out!
Joey King executed so well in this movie. There were some cheesy scenes that could have fallen flat - but she made them so funny. I have seen her in other movies, but in this movie I really saw her. I am a big fan of Joey now. Also, Nicole was wooden, as she often is. But I liked how this movie explored her character across three generations. That was nicely done. If I didn't like something then it was that everyone lived liked a millionaire. Everyone lives on ocean front, has a holiday home for Christmas and shops in the more beautiful supermarkets. Blarghh
I thought the movie was actually about narcissism. The love affair was actually secondary to that. It was about a girl that was obsessed with herself and a movie star that was also obsessed with himself, and it wasn't getting either of them anywhere. When they both let get go of their selfishness, they found happiness. It actually went places I didn't expect. A normal movie would have made the daughters behavior out to be normal when really it was narcissistic the entire time. Then this movie actually pointed it out. Which was refreshing
I also don't think it was too long, but they should have cut the love scenes and left it to our imaginations. I really wanted to see his acting get better. When she told him to redo the scene as if he was apologiesing to the women he mistreated. I wanted to see a transformation and we got nothing. They should have made us want to see the movie he was making. Is what im getting at.
