      Pain is virtue. It gives you a ritualistic scarring ceremony for members, and along with the mood buffs to deformity seems really thematically fitting, even if it isn't the most impactful on the list.

      Raider would be interesting, since Ideology also came with various non-settlement raiding options in the form of work camps, ancient complexes and such, plus it would codify into ideology our desire to attack caravans before we do it.
      What I'd prefer *not* to see is a massively disruptive ideo in the vein of - say - Darkness/Transhumanist/High Life/Rancher, but on the other hand, going just Loyalist or Prosletyzer - while thematically fitting our earlier pursuits - would (IMO) be doing Ideo a disservice.
      Other reasonable options... Nudist would, perhaps, be unfeasible with a multi-building base in a cold biome. What about Flesh Purity? Our previous colonies have ended up quite high-tech with many people more machine than man at the end, this would be an interesting restriction. Lost limbs would be a problem, though.
      As to what to spend the inspiration on, jade is always the go-to material for that, I feel. If Vikings adds a relevant quality-able structure, that'd be interesting, else probably something like a Game of Ur board would be the best use of that.

    re: defenses, i think a forest covered in wooden deadfall traps would be pretty on brand for the colony. just dozens and dozens of traps, littering the forest. would give the area and cult a terrifying reputation.

      Hard agree. Put cover and traps all over the place. Between trees with "secret" safe paths for the colonists to use and even in the river. Imagine a group of raiders getting pungie'd while in the river.

      @@baudsp Everyone except enemies will naturally avoid the traps if possible. Problem with the idea is that traps are extremely expensive and amount of raiders in 500% will destroy a lot. Plus building from wood is not much of an option with only 2 dryads and stone ones takes long long time to build.

      enemies won't trigger deadfall traps unless they are forced to step on them to get to colonists (like a hallway) and they're not already aware of them

    I like using inspired creativity on beds since they get the sleep effectiveness and immunity gain speed, it could save one of their lives. Nature primacy could be interesting and it follows the theme. Raiding would pull colonists away from home pretty often, and you have 3 dryad trees to tend already.

      Bed quality does nothing for immunity gain speed. Bedrolls as good as beds.

      High quality billiards table or poker table will fill the need for recreation more quickly, so colonists can get their asses back to work.

      Bed quality affects surgery success chance and rest effectiveness, as well as increasing beauty. It does not affect immunity gain speed.
      Source: Just checked stat differences between normal/good vanilla wood bed in-game.

      One large legendary statue alone is good enough to raise the room impressiveness from awful to very-extremely impressive. That being placed in a dining/recreation combo room would easily net you with some perma positive mood.

    Have Thoraya build a bed. Preferably a double bed for herself and Maniac. Good quality affects rest effectiveness, this way you make something both pretty and efficient.

    You should build a stone wall all around the outer borders of the Anima tree to protect it & any dryads in the area from outsiders.
    Its a sacred grove, so no one outside the cult should have access to it.

      @@antonioscendrategattico2302 to be fair, if you wanted to make functional base around anima tree, you would have to eat that malus (less recharge rate + slower grass growth), but on the other hand, it is not the end of the world

      I second this! Animals are a great alternative to having a killbox, and thematically, animals emerging out of the woods and ambushing would-be threats to the Cult would be pretty cool.

    You might put the woodmaker dryads closer into the walls, at the new tree, with the barkskin ones farther out.
    As to the killbox, fire might be nice. Fire is always nice.

      Makes sense! This way the dryads would make the first line of defence to the east. But doesn't changing dryad caste kind of wipes the existing dryads out of existence?

    Old forts and fortifications used to have mounds and small defensive structures outside their base, maybe you don't need to make a killbox, but a few forward defenses, using wooden walls and fallback options with perhaps something that could double as a ditch (with some traps in them perhaps)

    I think the Raider meme would be a fitting addition. The Cult of Jingz has fought a number of successful battles against unfavorable odds and still come out on top. I think it would make sense that the Cult would develop some form of warrior culture mentality.

    I haven't played ideology myself, but Pain is Virtue sounds good. With the sacrifices and the bloodlust of the colony, a little pain for themselves seems very fitting.

    Proselytizer feels good as a meme for the roleplay with how vigorous the conversion of new members has been. I also like the idea of Nature Primacy and Raider.

    I feel _'Pain is virtue'_ is a good fit, why? There a lot of bloodthirsty pawns in the colony, and the image of colony protecting the trees with their lives, each wound is a testament to how dedicated each colonist is to protect nature with everything they have.

    Proselytizing would definitely fit the gameplay as that is something that you already do. This could also introduce bigotry against other ideologies which, again, is prominent in this colony

    1:24 If you claim the unstable fuel cells before you get near them, sometimes you get enough time to deconstruct them before they explode.

      @@anastasiadenisova5767 yup, uninstalling worked for me in a raid, unfortunately it was at around 40% afterwards and couldn't be placed without repairing, so it's either destroy it for minor loot or risk blowing up my pawns.

      As long as the pawn isn't drafted when they enter the building, the fuel cells don't explode. So, claim - deconstruct with an undrafted pawn should work every time. It appears to be the drafting that causes them to become aggressive, not the deconstructing. Of course, this could be hotfixed if its not intended, so player beware.

    I think Blindsight or Pain Is A Virtue could both be interesting as they feel like something the Cult of Jingz might do. Both have interesting effects on Psycasters too, which seems like something the cult are investing in.
    The Blindsight can sometimes give free psylinks after blinding rituals, whilst also making blind pawns significantly more psychically sensitive. Blind pawns also don't care about beauty, which seems in line with the cult to me, as they already hide their appearances with masks.
    Scarification causes pain, which actually makes neural heat decrease faster. The downside is that they'll go down easier in a fight due to the pain shock. That said, they also end up enjoying being in pain, which feels appropriate for a cult that enjoys death.
    I think it'd be really interesting for the cult to take both, and become proficient psycasters, but also not be too good in direct combat. It'd mean they'd have to rely on the Dryads a lot more and generally seems really interesting to me.

    On Defense. How about re-planting a few rows of trees to force enemies to walk through difficult and open terrain, limiting angles of approach and protect your dryads a bit. I feel this would be in the spirit of the cult and still not op since vunerable to wildfire, beavers, sieges etc.

    The issue with Ideology is that Proselytizer is by far the best option, since it gives you development points for converting people, so you can just imprison any raiders who live, convert them and unlock the next upgrade almost immediately.
    I'm assuming you want to avoid that however.
    Personally I think going for "Blindsight" could be very interesting, especially since you've already got a nearly blind colonist and that it synergises with a heavy psycast focused playthrough, on the flip side you may be in a position where blinding your characters could destroy the colony.
    If not Blindsight, I think Nudism or Cannabalism would fit the Cult as well.

    My list of fun memes to add in the future:
    Proselytizer, as others have said, are definitely fitting, and should be a priority.
    Raider might be fun, and with the addition of work sites, it's not a bad idea.
    My personal favourite, however, is High Life, we already deal with plants a lot, and having this cult be even more batshit insane could be an absolute joy to see. Those carpets are also nice looking, as a bonus.

      Yeah, but high-life is kinda incompatible with the playthrough since we are probably gonna stay neolithic-medieval for a while.
      The only drugs that would be available for a long time would be smokeleaf, beer, and ambrosia and that's a bit of a problem. Ambrosia for the fact that you can't grow it and beer and smokeleaf because they all come with hefty work-speed penalties and this is a 500% playthrough.
      If we progress to industrial, though, then high-life would actually be feasible since at that point we can manufacture drugs without hefty speed penalties or at least be able to manufacture combat drugs like go-juice for when the inevitable raids happen and everyone needs to be combat-ready.

    You could replant a bunch of trees to make a small “wall” of trees. As long as a dry thunderstorm doesn’t hit it could be quite the thematic defence line

    Maybe you already know this trick but here you go :
    Build a single wall near your defenses and build roof all around it (as much as the wall can support)
    Leave the wall with a few hit points and build a few sandbags or barricades
    Dont forget to exclude the wall from your home zone so your builders wont repair it
    The raider will seek cover under the sandbags when they raid you. You shoot the wall and the whole roof collapses over your ennemies.
    Also, maybe a fortified compound with traps and cover for your shooters. You can replant the trees in a certain formation to form a maze.
    Maybe separate your colony : the main base, wall n°1, defenses, perhaps fields and stockpile barns, another wall, another defenses. I would much more appreciate a more natural way of defending rather than a cheesy one block entrance with tons of traps and turrets. But you are the man pete ! Keep doing what your are doing ! I love your videos and im currently rewatching cambiar's cannibal adventure

    I think Nudist, Blindsight or Cannibal would fit as new memes for the Cult of Jingz.
    Nudist due to the colony's connection with nature, Cannibal since it seems fitting to ritualistically eat the flesh of those who would harm the trees and Blindsight due to your colony's connection with both the Guaralean Trees and Anima Tree.

    On the topic of memes, raider seems spot on. It would also let us seek out those ideologies we disagree with instead of waiting. Let the swamp come to them, so to speak.
    For creative defenses, perhaps the colony could use a bridge to funnel some enemies without making a full blown kill zone. Not sure how cheesy you want to get, but building a pillaron the bridge, using it to construct roofing, then removing it from home zone and damaging it near to destruction makes a nice little "aoe" type trap without grenades etc. When the enemies use the bridge to approach, knock out the column and the roof falls on the attackers.

    High Life and Raider are great picks! Personally though, I actually like the idea of picking the Pain is Virtue meme because I feel like it partially fits the style of the colony so far with the rough living and the amount of danger the colonists are subjected to. On a secondary note, I also like the idea of picking Flesh Purity, but I don't think it should be picked now. Awesome video Pete!

    It was raining while you were beating out the fires. You could have established a no-roof zone over the fire and had your colonists deconstruct the roof to help extinguish the fire.

    Pete your colony have perfect position for this type of defense: small bridge island on the river with sand bags on it. Everything else is protected by walls. Island have to be in the water to make sure that there is good line of sight on incoming raider with no spots where they can use cover behind walls. You can achieve this by constructing long wooden walls on bridges heading directly to the north and south from the island. All normal raids will prioritise wooden island because all pawns will be there and also because there will be only opened entrance to your base from that island. And its not a traditional type of killbox, since raiders and animals can attack island from 3 sides but will always be slowed by water.

    It may be cool to use trees in the defences in some way. The Cult of Jingz worships trees, so said trees "fighting alongside" the colonists and giving them even more reason to be grateful would fit thematically. Although, one could also make the argument that using trees as "shields" would go against their "holy" nature, so I guess this requires some further thought, and as I don't actually play Rimworld, I don't have many ideas for how exactly they could be utilized. With that said, one idea that does come to mind is to create some sort of thicket with various traps in it, and colonists hiding in hidden spots. I don't know if it's a viable plan, but it would certainly greatly suit the tribal and tree-focused fell of this playthrough!

    As an aside, it's absolutely worth it to rip up the carpets/floors (if fancy floors) on ancient sites/logging camps etc as it's a great way to get extra cloth and other resources; something like 10 units per square. Especially if you happen to have a shuttle to take it all back.

    I like the idea of a colony that start with a mostly "Tribal" idea, but then start to do things like "Its gonna be just a little of stone", "Just some metal to make things more efficient" and so on, till they get a full futuristic civilization.

    I know this would be stupid, but I think the blindness meme would be an awesome meme lorewise. Like, the Cult of Jingz senses and feels through the trees due to their strong connection with them. It would be difficult, but it would be cool! Additionally, it would synergize with psy casters

    The stories that came out of Rimworld are so great. My 14yo son lately watched me play and asked why I
    play this kiddy game. Then I told him a few stories of my colonies about cannibalism, slavery, organ harvest, sacrifice of prisoners.
    Then he say "Wow, that´s really a cruel game." 😯 "Right son!"😉

    I think it'd be interesting to go with the Rancher meme. it has a high impact and you could spin the ideology that you're so dedicated to preserving plants and trees that you wouldn't even eat them.

    I think a Pain is Virtue meme would be a good idea. With a hard challenge like this, some pain is unavoidable so why not turn it into a benefit?

    For the creativity inspiration: i would do a bed, maybe a waste, but a bed for hospital purposes with improved healing and surgery sucess chances should be a good safety play for this early game

      @@madnessdrunkvids it doesn't. Compare immunity gain speed factor between an awful bed and a good+ one. Immunity gain speed does not change with quality, only the other two do.

    Pain is Virtue! Thats a *must* for this playthrough. You could also go Cannibal and make it preferred, rather than required. Not going cannibal is just leaving free meat on the map to rot, meat that could be fed to both colonists and animals! Food for thought.

    I think High Life should be the next meme added. The extreme desert series showed how profitable making flake or yayo can be and the drug use: essential precept increases the yield of drug plants, the speed at which drugs are synthesized, and the selling price of drugs.

    By placing small structure blocks or even moving trees in the forest/swamp , you can force the attacking party to move in a predictable way, say through a clearance in the forest. I think it would be cool if your defense strategy involved something like that, allowing your colonists to ambush from the trees!

    I don't know the effects of all the memes yet, but Raider seems to fit with the vibe of the Cult of Jingz, as does Proselyte. The other Nature meme (medium strength) is unfamiliar to me, but also seems like a fitting choice - maybe too obvious, though.
    The artwork is amazing, I love how much this series brings out the creativity in your viewers. Many thanks for another enjoyable episode!

    Pain is virtue seems like it would be very fitting for an aggressive tribe who would likely love showing off their battle scars. In addition, there is a literal Maniac in the cult's midst. The meme has a relatively decent effect on gameplay, but not too much in the colony's pre-electronics state.

    May not be the type of style you're looking for, but setting up a column with a few rooves and an IED explosive behind the column. When enemy pawns come sometimes they'll try and hide behind the column and set off the IED and roof collapse. Kinda situational but I love it when it works.

    Having raider as a meme would certainly be interesting, but I think the -50 faction goodwill with all non-raider factions and either -8% or -16% global work speed debuff is a bit too much this early in the game. Perhaps once the colony has a decent defenses and weapons?
    Otherwise, I think the best meme for right now would be Proselytizer, it reduces certainty loss significantly, and allows up to 7 times more conversion attempts on pawns. It does come with negatives though, insofar as your colonists have to be at least a little bigoted, and suffer mood penalties if there are other ideoligions in the colony. But there is a mood buff if everyone in the colony has the same ideoligion.

    I vote for Pain is Virtue. It changes up gameplay quite a bit:
    * you can have them sleep on the ground with no penalty but they also cannot benefit from comfort
    * you can do lots of scarification rituals, which looks cool as a way of initiation
    * it equips them mentally to deal with constant fighting and injury, though the scars will take from their HP pool
    * take the "corpses: don't care" precept, it fits the theme
    * IIRC it also lets you add a gladiator fight ritual

    With all of the wolf masks and connection to the bog as deadly predators who have become one with the forest, I think the animal primacy meme would be really interesting! You almost already have a pack mentality with that battle, so you may as well go all the way out with it xp

    My best no-killbox defense (I wish could send pictures)
    It's like a peek-a-boo base construction. You need easily accessible paths along the inside of your colony. I have widespread systems of outer walls in the late game, outer and inner walls have regular shooting positions, with good enough cover to take lots of shots.
    Best cover is shaped like a 5 on a dice, where the four corners are walls.Two of the corners shoudl extend to the wall you are protecting. (Very effective against sappers) Right in the middle is a door which is blocked from the outside with barricades. It can shoot in a lot of directions, but can also be shot from . It is a one person spot. All persons behind would have blocked sight mostly. When the heat gets too much simply retreat and the door your are standing on shuts behind you.
    Also I have secondary doors in walls as shooting positions. Those are bloced with three barricades from the front. I use them to shoot along the wall flanking enemies. When the rush, I open the door from the opposing side.
    On spots where I can manage a concave set of shooting positions, I insert cover for my opponents. But just to funnel them in a flanked position. (A door opened somewhere they did not expect).
    And well the classic spots for melee rush defense are also built in some places, usually three tile walkways (my highways for people the need to move to a different door).
    OUtside and inside of the base have these positions. Sometimes I add walled walkways that can shoot in both directions and that are walled off.
    Also very effective is a barricade corridor with walkways that are always in cover from three sides (have to check colonist pathing and is a pain to build)

    I'm loving this series more and more. I don't have a lot to add in regards to the ideology, but I agree with the people talking about pain is virtue, maybe nudism, and non-aversion to dead bodies.

    Recommendation in regards to the accident complexes (particularly the ones the shuttle that takes you) the whole complex can be deconstructed, including the carpets, which can be a great source of cloth as well as walls for stone as a lot of units can be transported

    Flesh Purity, Pain is virtue, and raider would all be really cool and all fit the theme of the colony so far. I know some other folks suggested High Life, but I'm not a big fan of that. Maybe it's just me.

    I want to make a suggestion. Since the first gauranlen tree with the wood dryads are so far out, why not turn the wood dryads into barkskin dryads that can tank for you while you make the new gauranlen tree your wood one. So far we have been lucky with Mixie just losing a foot but you might not keep getting so lucky, since the dryads are so vulnerable, save the barkskin one which would be better suited on the frontline.
    As for the meme I really agree the raider one would fit perfectly since it would encourage much more unique playthrough compared to the previous two. It would also fit with the entire theme.
    In terms of defense, I think you should experiment with dangerous animals like taming polar bears, which in turn could help clean up those corpses or even a pair of Thrumbos. I can imagine Maniac yelling: "Release the Thrumbos!"

    For the defenses it would be cool in the forest was super highly trapped. I almost wish there were more trap options than just the deadfalls, but having those sprinkled throughout the forest would seem fitting for this colony in my opinion 😊

    Hi Pete, excellent episode as always.
    For the 2nd meme I would choose between Proselytizer or Nature Primacy. They both further the theme of the Cult becoming more supremacist, without immediately going off the deep end of violence against all. Raider could be a fine choice but as others have said it would pull colonists away, at a time when that might be quite dangerous.
    Whatever your choice I look forward to seeing the next addition to this series.

    Is there another faction that might be good to form an alliance with?
    If so, then add a meme to align them closer.
    Clearing some trees from the far side of the river might deny enemies cover.
    And I do think the Barkskins are really tanky, but do very little damage.

    For what it's worth, I think collectivist would help you stay in the tribal phase for longer. Without killboxes and on 500% threat scale, you might need some really powerful greatbows to hold off attacks in the future.

      Collectivist just makes pawns work harder for longer with the leader's ability. Only Human Primacy would allow you to make more powerful gear with the production specialist?

    I really like the raider meme because I think it really fits with the play style. Additionally, something like high life or transhumanist might be really cool too since it would show off more of the game that you maybe haven’t touched on as much in other playthroughs, and/or give the game a slight twist.

    the pain meme where mood improves with pain but also desires scarification, would work well with the theme and makes them fight longer in heated battles.
    also setting up a scattered rambo/predator style natural trap zones.

    For memes, Animal Personhood might be a good fit, especially given the usage of wooden masks.
    For defenses, I'd love seeing Pete's take on the Incinerator 3000, a long path flanked by granite, in which you seal raiders before throwing molotovs at wooden stools.

    I like "Female Supremacy" as a meme for the cult. Other than that, I really wanted to talk about defense. I think the best bet is placing traps all over the forest. If you can create "rings" of traps around where enemies would like to setup and have defensive positions everyone can fall back to. The main idea is to use the full swamp to your advantage, kite the enemies around, use traps in good locations to stop enemies from having defense, and to hold your own defensive spots, and just fight like a tribe.
    I would suggest moving trees around and creating your defenses out of well-placed tree cover. Oh, and put the creativity inspiration into a good table for the common room.
