I am the real Alistair! I couldn't stop laughing when my name was selected for a paraplegic colonist, and I love Pete's solution. I mean look on the bright side: at least I'm not a duck!
If you can't research more powerful guns before Steak loses his inspiration, it might be worth making a bed. Higher quality beds increase surgery success chance, so you can replace that good bed in the hospital with an excellent or maybe even masterwork one. Also on the note of the trade where you sold the psychic insanity lance, it's too late now, but you had 300 silver in storage. So you could have simply taken a loss of 300 silver in that trade, just selling a few pieces of gold, and kept the lance.
IIRC a legendary royal bed has 168% rest effectiveness. I only try for those when I have gold and plasteel to spare, otherwise I try for legendary poker and pool table from whatever stone material I have - less time to fulfill recreation and more time for the whole colony to get stuff done.
@@ahmataevo like I said in my comment I prefer to use it on beds. A masterwork wooden bed has 115% surgery success chance. With a normal wooden bed you need a level 14 doctor to reach the max surgery success chance of 98% (there is always a 2% chance of failure no matter how good everything is) but with a masterwork you only need a level 9 doctor to reach 98%.
@@Sir_Budginton I prefer to use the masterwork/legendary beds as normal sleeping locations - especially for couples. I prefer jade royal beds if possible, because jade is the prettiest material that doesn't have rest effectiveness debuffs, so a masterwork/legendary jade royal bed can last until the end of the game. For all other beds (hospital and otherwise), I mass-produce them using my best constructor until they are all excellent. But I'm not usually very resource-constrained by that point!

Funny what a difference easily growable food can do to civilisation. Troy appears to be related to half the Rim.
6:20 Last time I planted it, Devilstrand was immune to blight. I had the DS field in the middle of two blighted fields, but utterly free of spreading blight. My best guess is that blight will skip any plant with a certain minimum growth time, to be not too disruptive. Unfortunately it seems only Devilstrand takes that long to grow, as Corn afaik can be affected. As a material for your cause, Devilstrand afaik matches Camelhids heat insulation. By providing 50-100% more protection in other fields. 12:30 I am not 100% sure, but I would guess Cryosleep people do still count for Colony Size calculations. Wich are used to calculate raid sizes and the like. So it may actually be a bad idea. 19:50 Damn, is there anyone not related to troy on that planet?
Recently, I've noticed that blight only spreads to nearby plants of the same species. (EDIT: My colony has large climate-controlled indoor fields with no dividers. If corn gets blighted, the bblight doesn't spread to the adjacent healroot.) If this is actually how the game works, it would also explain why your devilstrand was spared.
@@jon_j__ Back in that day I had very much mixed fields and it did cross species barriers. But I am 90% sure it was before 1.0, so my information might be horribly out of date.
The first thing I would use that creative inspiration on is a royal bed. Not sure what Steaks construction skill is at, but if he is able to produce a masterwork or legendary royal bed, that would save about an hour of rest time every day for Steak and Redhawk, allowing them to both be much more productive. Additionally, although its not really an issue right now, it would probably improve their bedroom quality and therefore increase their mood as well, potentially giving you more inspirations.
I go for legendary poker/pool tables first, filling recreation fast benefits the whole colony while beds benefit a max of 2. Royal beds after that though.
Devilstrand is definitely nice as you wont have to worry about it dying to cold in the desert and it can't get blight. However given that you would be planting on stony soil it is literally going to take a year to fully mature, and with the losing is fun difficulty your yield would only be 5 per plant. That field mightstill be enough to make some cowboy hats though. Also as a tip regarding the psychic shock and insanity lances. You can always profit off them by using them on thrumbos since they have two charges (wait for two thrumbos to be next to each other before using the insanity lance on one). Even if no thrumbos come they are still invaluable for downing dangerous raiders with rocket launchers and power armor from afar.

Hi Pete, just wanted to say that i realy enjoye the fact that you try to give more "personnalities" to your colonist in you commentary. Its very enjoyable giving a bit of caracter to each one. If the ice sheet series was the "Mountain's Canibal documentary" this serie is clearly the "Friends of the desert". Keep it up man !
Whew, finally! For once I caught up to the most recent progress of any Rimworld series I've been watching, love the comprehensive editing and narration, not to mention that everything was carefully planned, unlike a lot of sloppy playthrough from other content creators. Keep up the good work, Pete, looking forward for more!
As you're going for drug production, I'd recommend you try going for wake-up production as well, as well as beer and/or cocoa. Wake-up greatly boosts productivity of your colony since it's basically a night-skip and some more minor buffs to a pawn, while beer and/or cocoa would be a mood booster in case of emergencies, or even to get inspirations due to high-mood. A scheduled intake once every couple days would be just a negligible risk of addiction and would yeld high benefits.
Wake-up no longer has a no addiction chance threshold and now has a greater heart attack risk, yayo always had addiction chance. I used to use wake-up for my mining caravans to quickly hit each plasteel deposit and keep moving, but no more. Now I'll just use drill arm miners for hitting plasteel deposits.

Spaced out doses of tea are still good though, aren't they?
Despite the infection that social fight wasn't too bad. One of my colonists decided to fight and BITE THE EYE OUT of the other colonist. Said colonist was one of my best shooters too.... I was just recently able to make bionic eyes so I did that after an uncomfortable amount of time.
In one one of my "reload anytime" modded games I had a temperamental colonist with archotech arms killing others in social fights... repeatedly. If I hadn't kept reloading that game, most of the colony would have been dead from that guy's social fights alone.
Love the series, Here is an efficiency tip for you though: If you place the board game at the corner of the dining table (between the chairs), the pawns will use the adjacent chairs and gain comfort while gaining recreation from the game. If pawns play a 2 player game, they can still use both dining chairs even if the angles look strange.
in the future, maybe you can send Alistair on his own to mine different tiles on the map? just send him food and some fuel so he can send the steel over to the base in drop pods. I am not sure though if that is allowed in the base game (i remember using a mod to make a temporary camp, been awhile since i last played)
You can do it in the base game. There's a setting that lets you have multiple bases, then just abandoned when you are done. The mod is essentially just doing exactly that, but makes the tile a bit smaller for performance and doesn't litter the map with 'abandoned base'
Pete I just wanna say that you are by far my favourite RUclipsr. Keep up the amazing work, you really have a unique and lovable video style. Keep it up and Good luck with Uni.
Cleanliness affecting research speed is quite an interesting mechanic. I assume the developer does not work at a university, or in a research institute.
idk what you're talking about. High cleanliness standards are pretty much mandatory in most scientific research areas (although some people can work in any condition).
@@pietrotettamanti3183 I'm not implying chaos or filth, but it doesn't look anything like the advert pictures of companies that sell lab equipment (everything white and spotless glass, nothing laying around etc.) In my experience the machinists workshop is significantly more sorted than the labs, and, if no machining is going on, less dusty. Though I don't work in chemistry or microbiology, where things are probably different.
@@kilianortmann9979 it depends on the moment, the part of the lab and who's working in it. I know people who can work in labs that are an absolute mess, but personally I'd have a nervous breakdown halfway through a synthesis (and I'm not a particularly tidy person). But regardless of who carries out the research (and whatever the research is) the area where the experiment is carried out is always kept as tidy and clean as possible, and that's way easier if the whole room is already clean. It simply makes things smoother and working more relaxing. Then again it's normal to have a sink with 10kg of dirty glassware waiting for an undergrad to wash it, and about the advert pictures I totally agree with you. Yes, that's not what labs or equipment looks like :,D but after all that's the rule for every advert picture about anything.
Each night i check in to see if you continued the series, and oh-boy was i in for a treat tonight! Thanks for the always good quality content Pete! Smokeclouds from Copenhagen, Denmark.
I'm loving the series. Thanks for making it. :-) I have a suggestion. I think you should have a source of light in each and every room, but of all places, it should be in the hospital especially. Lighting impacts every type of work, even doctoring -- it's not just a matter of speed, either, but quality. So, not only did it take longer than necessary in this episode to install the caskets and new flooring, but you'll get poorer results if your medic works on a patient in the dark. The fact that the medicine was applied in the dark in this episode would've made it less likely to get higher heal percentages, so you may have had to deal with the flu for longer than you had to. It's also a mood penalty for a patient stuck in the room, so the lack of a light alone had three different consequences in this episode. People make a big deal in forums and whatnot about how much power vanilla Rimworld needs to power a light, but I don't think it's nearly as bad as it's made out to be. You've also got that automatic light toggle mod, so there's few reasons not to do it as far as I can tell. Keep up the good work.
Devilstrand is great in the long term, if you plant it early in large enough quantities most of your colonists will be wearing red by the end of the game.
You can say that again. After culling my chicken herd and some other animals by the end of a particularly hungry winter, I had almost all of my hay fields growing devilstrand. Got all of my 13 colonists on red dusters+shirts+pants by the end of that year and still had like 600 DS left over. Wonderful protection for my little guys and gals.
Nice episode as alway :) You should always keep a few psychoid tea, it can be a life saver if you have a bad situation/bad mood around the colony, and there is no con (very little risk of addiction etc...)
@@jon_j__ true, but with all those turrets our boy Pete could probably spare two pawns for a day/night trip. Might be worth a little extra value during one of his drug selling runs. Just a thought anyway.

@ Yes, 1 tea every 2 days seems to have a pretty low chance of issues.
I tend to produce yayo rather than flake because it's also a precursor to go-juice.
looking at Redhawk in that picture, Steak is one hell of a lucky guy
Despite the infection that social fight wasn't too bad. One of my colonists decided to fight and BITE THE EYE OUT of the other colonist. Said colonist was one of my best shooters too....
I was just recently able to make bionic eyes so I did that after an uncomfortable amount of time.
In one one of my "reload anytime" modded games I had a temperamental colonist with archotech arms killing others in social fights... repeatedly. If I hadn't kept reloading that game, most of the colony would have been dead from that guy's social fights alone.
@@ahmataevo Banish him?
@ wasting two frigging archotech arms??? I don't think so
Thank you Pete! Always a pleasure!
Nice video again Pete ! Tofu is a really good artist also. Great work !
Such a quality time hearing Pete comment over Rimworld
Fantastic video as always, Pete!
Artist's depiction of Jake in battle armour was definitely a surprise, but a welcome one.
That art work is amazing Tofu
With it's immunity to disease, I use devilstrand as a sort of bulkhead between fields to prevent the spread of blight
That fan-art is amazing, i love the combined image.
Word of trust is amazing for recruiting prisoners. Knocks about 20-30% off resistance remaining.
in the future, maybe you can send Alistair on his own to mine different tiles on the map? just send him food and some fuel so he can send the steel over to the base in drop pods.
I see it more like a lab. All the labs I've ever worked in have pretty stringent cleanliness standards, no dust and things like that
idk what you're talking about. High cleanliness standards are pretty much mandatory in most scientific research areas (although some people can work in any condition).
@@pietrotettamanti3183 I'm not implying chaos or filth, but it doesn't look anything like the advert pictures of companies that sell lab equipment (everything white and spotless glass, nothing laying around etc.)
In my experience the machinists workshop is significantly more sorted than the labs, and, if no machining is going on, less dusty.
Smokeclouds from Copenhagen, Denmark.
always a good time to watch Pete play rimworld
I'm loving the series. Thanks for making it. :-)
I have a suggestion.
Thanks for the quality regular content Pete!
I'm just trying to picture a 14kg Guinea pig now
This series is pure ASMR.
Had a bad day but Pete uploaded and I can forget everything for 22 minutes and 47 seconds :)
Here we go! I have waited so long for this episode! Starting uni again for me has also been a nightmare. Thanks for the content
You dont know how excited I was for this episode
Just got caught up on the series today and I get a fresh episode? Happy day.
I saw this and my regular day became a good day
Mood Bonus: Watched a Pete Complete video
@@vianneyb.8776 Just a plus 2 modifier. But every little bit helps
Once again, awesome episode Peter Completer!
Nice episode as alway :)
You should always keep a few psychoid tea, it can be a life saver if you have a bad situation/bad mood around the colony, and there is no con (very little risk of addiction etc...)
Good art, Tofu.
Tofu's art is awesome
The Steakhouse. Where food isn't the only thing we specialise in cooking XD
To you, stranger, reading this comment: have an amazing day.
Thanks, stranger, hope your day goes twice as good!
Thanks Johnny, idem.
Shut up
Thanks, you too!
Me : open video
Pete a few minute later : Explain how to make most amount of money by dealing drug efficiency
Take that sworf Edmo, TAKE IT!
yes! early for a Pete video, I love this series and your content, keep it up mate
4:35 Imagine hauling ass away from three 14 kilo guinea pigs lmao, irl you'd be in some deep shit
Oh no, Edmo lost his iconic Thrumbo horn now ^^'
He'll get a new one soon enough, I am sure.
Imprison the new guy, take him to the village you trade with, exchange him for something you actually need ;).
Funny - but remember that they'll need to carry him, which means at least 3 people in the caravan.
@@jon_j__ true, but with all those turrets our boy Pete could probably spare two pawns for a day/night trip. Might be worth a little extra value during one of his drug selling runs. Just a thought anyway.
That was a fun and satisfying ep.
Cheers.
Thanks for the awesome content!
for the killbox you could build some sandbags or barricades right next to the wood walls, that prevents enemies from staying too close to them
Excellent work. This video series is great fun to watch
A bit off seeing Jake as a power-armored badass, since all He's been so far is a farm boy. Still, I won't complain. He looks like an absolute CHAD in that picture.
He just looks badass because of his armor. I also think that he is more like a calm farm boy and animals lover. So I decided to draw his face not so badass. I hope his face doesn't look that badass haha.
I suppose you could say plate armour was a good in- _vest_ -ment for the future... 😁
Great video and nice work. Tofu on the art.
echt nice und gechillt, Randy ist wohl rauchen.
Mega-Guinea Pigs.... 14 kilograms? Holy shit....! That's no normal oversized hamster! :p
A good episode so far (not yet finished watching the rest) but looks like you still have the Minify everything mod active! Things such as the cryptosleep caskets are not by default movable, and it is quite an advantage to be able to move them into your base. Not sure if you intended to give yourself this edge this way!
YES! AFTER 24 EPISODES, DEVILSTRAND!
wait no not edmo's thrumbohorn!
hope you're doing well. love winding down to your videos/voice haha.
That quest from boso, was just to get rid of feng. LOL
roflmfao
''Alistair'' Damn im in the middle of replaying the DA series that is a neat coincidence ...
19:18 Edmo propositions Redhawk, yet again. Seriously, dude. Seriously.
Lovesick, ain’t he?
I like how you said you were going to make the old throne/common room into a hospital and then just put 1 bed in there.. along with 2 research benches and 2 cryptosleep caskets.
Great video as usual.
Edmo: Hey jake, I see you checkin out my babe Redhawk. She's mine.
Jake: Wait, isn't she married to Steak? Why are you calling her babe?
Edmo: Oh it's on b*tch!!
*Proceeds to have a fistfight with eachother*
