  • Questions regarding sleep position is the most popular topic among y’all when it comes to scoliosis. You are intuitive! You understand that there might be something beneficial you can do for your scoliosis while you sleep. There might be one sleep position that’s better than another and you’re right!
    If you sleep between 8-10 hours per night, you are spending 9,000 hours a year in bed. So, if you can position yourself in a way while you sleep that helps your scoliosis, why wouldn’t you want to try that?
    Remember, the most important thing is that you get your sleep. If you’re able to fall asleep in a “good” position and stay there for even a few minutes or an hour, you are benefiting your scoliosis!
    Click this link to watch and learn the best sleep position for you.
    This video will explain what you need to know about sleeping on your stomach, which side to sleep on for which curve type and what you need to know about sleeping on your back.
    A general rule of thumb, the firmer the mattress the better.
    Why?
    Firmer mattresses support your curves well, so you won’t sink further and further into your mattress and into your curve over the course of the night.
    You also want to make sure your head is in line with the rest of your spine so that you’re not kinking your neck as you sleep.

    This is interesting (I was told two days ago I have a mild scoliosis) but this caught my eye:
    "If you sleep between 8-10 hours per night, you are spending 9,000 hours a year in bed."
    May I point out:
    365 x 10 = 3,650 hours each year in bed.

    Hi, I am diagnosed with Scoliosis two days ago and its scary. I'm 26, and my doctor said its too late to straighten my spin to normal position. Your account is the only account that I could find for really the questions I’m looking for. Thank you! Do I need a second pillow for my legs?

    • @thescoliotherapist
      @thescoliotherapist  4 месяца назад

      Sorry I’m just seeing this! I’m glad you’ve found my account helpful. There is a lot of hope living with scoliosis. Our body is constantly changing. If things can get worse, that means they can also get better!!
      Yes a pillow for your legs can be helpful if you’re finding the position uncomfortable. You should be able to fully relax and find ease:)

    Regarding side sleeping, if one is fully fused T4 - 12 with no flexibility in the curve, would your advice be the same as in this video?

    • @thescoliotherapist
      @thescoliotherapist  2 года назад

      Really good question! Because of your fusion, you want to pay attention to your lumbar curve. You would want to lie on your lumbar concavity!

      If your lumbar curve is the larger curve, sleeping on your right side or back would be best.
