Love your conversion to electric motor - will soon do that myself. Only remark - as an electronics engineer I am pretty sure - your power wiring and connector is too thin for safe and efficient usage. Even if wires don't melt you will get power losses in them under load. From my calculations you should use 10 to 8 AWG wires.
Good vid. Good process. I like your method of prep on the workbench at the start :) I'm doing similar for my 350# sailboat. I didn't go with an existing petrol outboard (don't have one). I instead went with a pod motor rated at 18kW. I'll probably post something about the project. Have been reviewing all the DIY electric outboard projects on YT and yours is one of the best.
Thanks for the comment! I am working on a super dual motor one next, I plan on making it get a small dingy on the plane! :D I have now got 2x 4kw submersible motors, it should be enough. all steered by remote control as the tiller arm annoys me.. watch this space!
Id love to but the plasma is a diy job - its a little rough and ready!! the gearbox on these saps too much power in reality. Direct drive is a much better way of doing it!
Certainly worth a try! just bear in mind that the teeny gearbox does sap quite a chunk of power from the motor I am working on a different design completely now as chasing more power :D
This is fantastic! kettle, Check. empty beer cans, check. socket set fucked in under a bench, check. amazing trouble shooting check! You should go big with this stuff, better camera and better sound, but content is great! thanks a mill.
Great neat project! Looking to build one myself as me and wife got diy ebikes and there will be no need to buy battery, just use ones we got on our ebikes.
while its a cool project, $75 for an old transom mount would give similar speed and several hours of run time. Not hating, I searched for this video because I have an old 4hp I was thinking of converting- the results dont make it worth it though- learned that- I gave you a like anyway
Yeah you are right - however im prepared to spend the money for a non petrol motor, as its a pain to store - start ect. I thought I had smacked my Fiancee in the face with my elbow the one time it stopped, luckily it was the dock and not her that i hit. ever since then I have hated the thought so much that I have to try. I have MK2 almost finished, 10X the power too :) and still getting married too!
Great video and work, only spoilt by the unnecessary awful music. Can you make me two electric outboards, about 25HP, running from 48v nominal to power a 40ft solar power catamaran? 😂
I knew I was in the right video when I saw how meticulous he cleaned his workbench. A true craftsman, Thank you for the video sir !
Your workshop is a thing of strange beauty

Impressive workshop you have. Interesting video. Thanks for sharing. Regards Stephen
Like to see a follow up on this project!
Brilliant. Can you please share link to the motor and speed controller
What's the maximum power that shaft coupler could handle? Or it won't really matter? I wanna do a build with a much bigger electric motor
Can we expect ur next update soonish 🥺
Great video! The Germans at Torqueedo would be impressed! Kudos on tackling this project. ePropulsion for boats is coming! ~tgb
Have you got a link for the motor please
Try turning the propeller around. A regular propeller has lots of toque in reverse at low speed
No, it will be less efficient and a waste of time.
REMOVE THE SOUNDTRACK!
OTHERWISE JOLLY GOOD.
subscribed due your lovely neat workshop
29:00 Is that part of the Javelin in left down corner? 😜😂

What pod motor did you go with?
I went with a Maytech. I overheated one of the motors or otherwise abused it, and am going to go with one of their water cooled motors now.
I feel like you could sell adapter plates. I've got an old 3.3 I'd like to covert, but no plasma cutter. Would buy a kit from you.

Good job ... Enjoy!
thanks! :D
I love this. I have a Johnson 4hp that I want to do this with and this is giving me many ideas and insight.

150w just in drive resistance sounds a lot. Thinks there is an issue
I’d like access to your shop
Excellent video

sorry, added comment, what's the overall cost? motor/ controller etc.. thanks.
Great effort .well done
thank you!
Great job!
thanks! :)
Where did you get that motor?
it was bought as a spare for my electric mower, aliexpress used to sell them for around 30 bucks!
Very cool✌️
Great video and brilliant workmanship, I'd buy one,. Get rid of the music. 👍
Yeah, lose the music... or like tone it down.
plse get rid of v anoying music, it also makes it harder to hear u
How would you compare this to a torqueedo? Was this a MY1020 motor?
Id say it has the same (if not slightly more) power than a Torqueedo but that's not really saying much !
Great neat project! Looking to build one myself as me and wife got diy ebikes and there will be no need to buy battery, just use ones we got on our ebikes.
thanks! just be a little concious about the max current that the BMS will allow - I can get away with mine as 4x battery packs is around 80 amps :)

Really bad camera work
wtf is this
