David Goggins is scary tough. He is the only person to have completed Navy SEAL training (including two Hell Weeks), Air Force tactical air controller training, and U.S. Army Ranger School. Not that he was always a super soldier: Goggins once weighed 300lbs and was by his own admission lazy and undisciplined. Here, Goggins explains how he transformed himself and won the war in his mind-from positive self-talk and building a 'cookie jar' of resilience, to the 40% rule, here's how you can learn to push past your own mind games. You can follow David on Twitter and Instagram @davidgoggins and Facebook.

DAVID GOGGINS:
David Goggins is the only member of the U.S. Armed Forces to complete SEAL training, Air Force tactical air controller training, and the U.S. Army Ranger School, where he graduated as 'Enlisted Honor Man'. Seeking an even greater challenge, Goggins set about conquering the hardest sporting events known to man. Today he is considered to be one of the greatest endurance athletes in the world.

TRANSCRIPT:
DAVID GOGGINS: So I'm all about acknowledging your shortcomings in life. A lot of people talk about "triple down on your strengths. Triple down on your strengths and don't worry about your shortcomings." That's a whole new thing I'm hearing right now. Maybe it's not new, but it's new to me because I'm not out there really listening to all this stuff. That's the quickest way to never grow. To never grow. If you sit there and have that mentality of "triple down on what you're good at" you're never going to grow. You're always going to stay the same.
Either you're getting better or you're getting worse. So one thing that helped me out a lot when I was growing up was people always ask me: how do you build mental toughness? Mental toughness-a lot of people have these classes out here. A class on mental toughness. Positive thinking. Visualization. All these different techniques.
Mental toughness is a lifestyle. It's something that you live every single day of your life. When I was growing up I was a lazy kid. I was a lazy kid, and everybody goes, "How did you get to where you're at today? How did you get to where you're running 200 miles at one time in 39 hours? Being so disciplined?"
It started off, honestly, with recognizing that my bedroom was dirty. My bed wasn't made. I lived a sloppy life. So I took very small increments in my life. I started making my bed. I started cleaning my room. There were dishes in the sink. It started off with doing small house chores. I saw that the yard needed to be mowed. So instead of being told it needed to be mowed, I would mow it.
I started doing things, coming outside of my lazy ways to become better. And for a period of time your brain doesn't like it, but it starts to realize: this is a new way of thinking. We are now doing things that we are uncomfortable doing. We are doing things that we don't want to do. So the brain starts to slowly grow.
And let's say you don't like to get up early in the morning to go run. I hated it. I still hate it. You do that. You live uncomfortably to gain growth.
You have to have friction in your life to gain growth. And the only way to do that is to make yourself uncomfortable. And get to the point where instead of running from the things you don't want to do, you actually face them and start to gain more and more growth in your life. So that's how I approach all those things.
Self-talk, for me, has been the biggest thing in my life. A lot of us have a dialogue that is crap. It's a crappy dialogue. We live in a world right now that is very external. Everything is very on the surface. Superficial. Everything. And what we're telling ourselves is what we see on TV. It's what we see on Instagram. It's what we see on Facebook. And we're telling ourselves stuff that doesn't really penetrate to our core, to the inside of our soul. So our self-talk is like: "What am I going to wear today? How am I going to look today? I need to act this way today because this way is cool."
My self-talk became something that actually made me better. And I had a whole bunch of negative things in my life. And to get to the self-talk portion of it first, you have to quiet all of the phones and social media and all the negativity of the world to get to even hear your own self have a self-talk.
You can't have self-talk if you're hearing someone else's dialogue and what they'r...

This guy has been one of my top motivations....I work out after work after 12 hours days. I tell myself.....if Goggins can do what he does and live...then I can work out for an hour or so after 12 hours of work. I give myself no limits now.
Stephan Pendarvis 🤙
Good job brother

Stephan Pendarvis Stay hard brother!
I am struggling with the AM/PM workouts myself.. Thanks Goggins. The AM workouts will be my jump start.
I've never been a fan of motivational speakers but this man is on a whole different level.
Same here. I think it's because he's an actual role model instead of some self help guru who ain't been through shit telling everyone to "just be positive".
"There's no growth in the comfort zone and comfort in the growth zone."
Samuel Weatherford Nice, I like that.
Samuel Weatherford
Yepp thats some real riddle shit 👌
Real talk
100% true.
Fantastic quote
He grew by solving problems he knew he could solve, even if he didn’t want to.
Exactly and some of us don’t even know we can solve the problems we are having
"Win the war in the morning so you have the strength to face what you are going to face in the world." David Goggins. #MindBlown
POWERFUL aint it
He is an Excellent motivational speaker even I've only just discovered him. Extremely passionate, real. There is no way you can fake this. He absolutely walks the talk, and way beyond most
Most walls have doors or windows, ways to go through them. His analysis of the mind are worth listening to over and over until you decide to challenge yourself to step up from 40% capacity utilization to 100% knowing that it means being willing to change, to suffer and to grow. Really great talk. Will work on it from right now.
The most important lesson I learned from David Goggins is you have to start and not quit until you are successful. Easy? Not easy. But that is it. I am hoping that I will be able to change my life.
This man is the man.do some research about him.very glad that internet permit us to get this kind of information for free
Dont give capitalists any ideas, we dont want it to be charged :D

Incredable eye opening talk, David is a great example that hard work pays off. The more effort you put into working on weeknesses the stronger you will become.
"Clean your room." ~ Jordan Peterson
If you can't even do the most simple things in your life how do you expect to do large complex goals! That's the point of cleaning your room, being well groomed, brushing your teeth, doing chores. Baby steps.
Glad someone beat me to it

I have found a proverb in my bible years ago and as I discovered Googins I have been strucked by understanding: "Order your dreams/"projects" to God, and God will shape your minds to find your way". Translated analogously. Thank you Googins and thank to all the American people out there who bring inspiration and understanding in my life. God bless America!!!

Just 1 % improvement a day will change your life. Leave the negative people behind ....
Love this guy!
depends on the shortcomings. Some things aren't worth the time improving, some make a big difference.
The man has a point. Top man for motivation.🕉
Goggins is my number one person I listen to daily when I run. Literally u can require your brain just listening to him daily!
You are great David. You are real, that's special.
"win the war in the morning" ~Goggins~
David Goggins NEVER get old!!!
I know Gary Vee talks about going in on your strengths and all but Goggins has a point that I've experienced in my life. If you spend a small fraction of your life dedicating it to your weaknesses , your strengths and flow states while doing things you love/are good get better. So in other words: working in weaknesses, ultimately will give you an advantage when going in on your strengths.
Yes. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
I don’t listen to music to psych me up. I listen to David’s audiobook!
Initiative is a key to mental toughness
The Part about the self talk is the best. Problem: It's not only the Social Media, that tell you shit, it's also people your befriended with, your family, teachers etc.
Thank God for this!
Great!
incredible
I love David Goggins!!!
another example of mind over matter. all these guys have that same ingredient if u watch them. no navy seal is ever gonna give up because he has his mind right, he has his shit tight. no doubt.
Mr. Goggins you are on point
Great speech.
A personal favorite bigThink
He's great!
Whether you think you can or you can't -- you're right
Goggins is a hard act to follow
I'm already tired just hearing him talk. I see so many people who are extremely productive but have big problems relaxing. I have the feeling he is not the one to help out on that front XD
He goes hard. One day he ran 100 miles weighing almost 300lbs. That day was horrible because his 300lb body weight broke all of the bones in his feet, but he kept running.
he relaxes pretty well, 7hrs of sleep. Watches sports. Thats pretty relaxing.
He joined the Air force and quit PJs cause he was scared of the water. At 300lbs he decided to man up and conquer his fear of water and be a Navy Seal. Ge webt thru 3 hell weeks b4 he finally graduated BUDS. What I learned from David Goggins is FOCUS YOUR THOUGHTS, CONTROL YOUR EMOTIONS, ORDAIN YOUR DESTINY.
actually easy to follow...Im trying....Goggins is a hard act to emulate.
I need to watch this every morning
He has championed the hot topic of mental toughness. If there is anyone that is a scientist on mental toughness, it is indeed him.
He's got a point, and a good one at that.
Wisest man in the world and he learned from The School of Hard Knocks
This guy has the answer period
Did Not Even Watch This Video Yet.... David You Are AWESOME !!!!!!
One word, WOW.
Being 244 pound 18 yro and in highschool and trying to be a navy seal this shows me just cuz im lazy and fat its not impossible to change my life all it takes is the one spark in your head
Wow..ultimate
Awesome, thank you for the great talk. Also, I can hear you just fine, you don't have to yell at me.
I want to make a video about taking diets and self-control completely to the next level. Many talk about finding the mental strength to fight off unhealthy desires, including overeating. I've never heard about anyone tackling the problem before we even have to use mental toughness to fight against it. We have the ability to train our brains to completely discredit the simple electrical signal from our stomachs to our brains that is translated into hunger. If we teach ourselves that the stomach has no knowledge of how much food in the form of body fat we are carrying, it only knows when it is empty or full. Its electrical signal to our brains is sent blindly, with no other basis. If we simply look at and pinch to measure the thickness of our belly fat for example, at the moment we feel a hunger urge, every time, visually seeing our lack of need for answering the stomach's uneducated signal and feeling that food stored in between our fingers, then we reaffirm the fact that when we eat, it should always be because our brains made that choice, not because our stomach's message forced us to, completely discrediting the hunger message as fake news upon arrival. You don't have to fight the hunger urge if you don't ever translate the stomach's signal as legit. :D (Fasting for at least 48 hours (also a very healthy thing to do) at least a few times also helps by training ourselves that we can actually go for days and even weeks with little to no food, further helping to teach our brains the lack of value in our stomach's messages.)
Who is this man?!? Amazing talk. I'm already changing my habits. Hope to stick to it. #bookmarked this one.
