Look up where this song originated. It's fun I promise. A 7 year old by who was living in iceland wrote a poem the translation is off. But the 7 year old killed a 10 year old boy . Everyone shamed him for doing so. His father was extra harsh. The boys mother told the boy he is gonna be a great viking. The boy went and wrote a poem about what his mother told him.
He killed the boy because he was cheated on whilst they were playing a game, goes home grabs an axe, and splits the kid's skull in half....

As a dane, i listened to this in my car on full speaker and sang at the top of my lungs, i could feel my soul light like a wild fire and this Orchestral version hits just the right spot in my soul! can't thank you enough for making this! , i swear all these amazing tracks both my mother told me, Wardruna & Danheim & Heilung is just pure soul music for me. and you know what! I was taught this song when I was a kid, as I have Icelandic relatives - and to help me learn Icelandic during vacations etc., I got to learn this and a few other songs.
They tell you the saga behind it?
I had to do alot of resurch it's so hard to find icelandic sagas.but my icelandic MIL and FIL helped me out.

My son is named Egil, which is not a common name in Sweden - but very much so in Norway, Iceland and Denmark. We've been to Borganes and supposedly met relative of Skallagrim all randomly, which was pretty fun. 😎

My husband is icelandic born in the USA. Its a rich culture! Only know English it's been hard to find the sagas looking in English. Working on learning icelandic. But I kept hearing this song and it just got stuck in my head for weeks. And had too look up where it came from. It's amazing how much the that they valued art history to make sure the stores where passed down to generations. American culture isn't like that. And most of our history is based on lies. Most people don't know their family tree. I remember asking my grandparents and they always said we are American that was the end of the conversation. I've enjoyed learning and love how much my extended family ( husband's side) is so willing and loves to talk and explain the culture.

You see an open field, wounded men and women alike scattered across the burning and bloodied landscape. You see minor fights between your brother, sisters (vikings) and the European warriors. But your main focus was the fight between your chief and the European lord. Axe and blade clashing, ringing out as sparks flew lighting the dead grass around them.
Bloodied and broken, your chief seems to wilt and fall. You hear a scream of anguish, turning around to see who it was, but.. it came from you. As you turn back to the fight, the lord had set his sight on you and through the flaming grass stalls towards you. You ready your axes and charge the towering lord even though he was a foot taller. You strike at his arms trying to disarm him but he simply backhands you with his gauntlet sending you sprawling.
The lord walks up to you, you try to get up but he steps on your chest, stopping you from moving. You try to get him off but he simply raises his greatsword over your face. You hold your axe tightly in your hand as you continue to try to treat his foot of your chest. Though, if anything, you'll be in Valhalla. You prepare for the final strike, but.. then you hear it.
The song of your people.
The chief stands on his two feet with his face towards the sky as he begins to chant the song soon, more and more voices meld with his. A darkly hopeful melody rang out throughout the battlefield.
The lord turns angrily, screaming at the chief for not dying properly as he charges him. The chief grins as he finishes the chant, ducking under the lord's desperate swing to cut his head off. Then your chief swings his razor sharp axe up, cutting off the lord's arm causing him to scream in pain. The lord kneeled onto the blackened ground clutching his bloodied stump, as your chief then sings the last line of the song, before taking the lord's head.
