This song is from Egil's Saga and is apparently based on a true story.
Egil was a Viking Age war-poet, sorcerer, berserker, and farmer. He composed his first poem at 3 and killed his first foe at 7. Legend says he was cheated at a game by another boy who was 10. Egil came back with an axe and cleaved the older boy's head. This caused a lot of anger and resulted in several other deaths, this time of adults. His father was very disappointed in him for causing the hardship but his mother celebrated it and told him one day he'd own warships, sail the oceans and kill many men.

That picture is so awesome! It really conveys the actual horrors of an ancient battlefield.
Only one thing wrong with it it depicts a knight with arrows in his back would more likely be in his front knights didn't run away from battles but towards them .....just sayin

@@charlesfry1455 who knows, judging by the corpses around him, he was clearly killed at the end of the battle. perhaps he mourned his fallen brother and was killed with arrows in the back, or perhaps he was the last survivor among his army and just looking at the corpses of their fallen brothers before death
@@emperorofnilfgaardofficial could be a lot of things, some of those fights came down to moshpit style brawls, no real formation or structure, and sometimes if archers fire into those, they could hit friendlies, that or if an archer had his bow in use in such a moshpit fight (unlikely but possible), he could just have taken pot shots at people. along with that, if he was unfortunate enough to be one of the last fighting, if he was outnumbered, someone could have taken his attention to his front and anyone else could have shot him from behind when he wasnt ready. being hit in the back wasnt too uncommon, but definitely shows a tragic and devastating end to a fight for life and death.

I workout to this aswell. First heard it on a mcgregor video and thought that its exactly what i need to workout. Made sure to save it as well. Love doing weighted pull ups to this. Makes you feel like a real warrior.

I love it, but initially i though he said "my mother told my someday i would die" a bit darker but still benefiting the tone

This is the best version of the song I know of, so many of the others just fail to capture the feeling this one gives and sound too whimsical in comparison to the more grim tone this has.

I scailed the western wall, facing archers. But the look in their pail eyes told me I would succeed. The sounds of cries and woes filled me up. As I reached the top of the western wall... their layed before me...
