You know it's a Squidge video when I'm watching it at 0.75x speed and I still have to pause and rewind multiple times to get all the offhand comments, clever observations, and one-liners! Above everything, I really want an England-Australia quarter-final. Not only the history between the two nations, but also the throwback to 2003 when Eddie was in charge of the Wallabies and recent history between Eddie Jones and England. Imagine the headlines if Eddie Jones led Australia to beat England (the team who up until a year ago he was expecting to coach in this RWC) out of the World Cup. If England or another Northern Hemisphere team doesn't win the World Cup, I want Australia to win it, just for the headlines involving Eddie Jones. Also, small note: at 2:43 you showed a picture of Elton Flatley when you said Stephen Larkham. Otherwise, great video.

Here's something I've been wondering - with all the analysis on shapes/positions etc (1, 3, 1; 2, 2, 2; etc), how much are the players on the field consciously taking note of the numbers, sizes of pods etc? And how is all this getting into position orchestrated? You've said before things like "Ford calls for a set of forwards" but it'd be interesting to know what these playmakers are actually shouting, how they are organising the lines or setting up moves on the fly.

scrolling through the team list there the majority of players I'd say have like 5-10 caps.

OK so France and Ireland are doing that already creating rucks to shift players into position confusing the defense. Attacks are always in motion from left to right - I have seen ABs do that so everyone is doing it to some degree and to their best practices. Speed is necessary to excecute to beauty and it is a joy to watch if it results in 5 points. The counter is when there is a turn over and the opposition turns the attack on you with a mixture of slow and fast ball and ricght kicking or break that creates a great counter attack. Its like a flow of offense and defense systems that no matter where you are in the field, move to your most effective position immediately by making the right decision. It fails sometimes but that's the game we all love - no matter how much analysis we do, JUST PLAY.

What I would say about the Australians at the moment is that, at the moment (i.e., on the basis of form), the answer is a qualified no. However, their performance trajectory has clearly been upwards and if they can get it all to function for the full 80+ minutes, then they look to have most of the tools they will need to go deep into the tournament. An Eddie Jones Wallabies team could be a very awesome thing indeed, but they look to have solved their traditional Achilles heel - the scrum - which should give them something of a platform for their always dangerous backs to work some magic. As an Englishman, they make me very, very nervous. If they find someone reliable to take the shots at goal…

Eddie didn't run the 2007 Springbok tactics, Jake White did either some input from Jones.

After watching Carter Gordon almost single-handedly throw away any chance of the Wallabies being in the game against France, I'm pretty sure I would still have a (supposedly used to losing) but relatively in form Quade Cooper in my team.

You make an excellent point about players getting used to losing.
But I think their chances of even getting to the 1/4 finals are little over 50/50, then it's UK or Argies ... another 50/50.

I just can’t see the supposed genius of Eddie
He’s employed a tiring game plan when the wallabies have struggled to put together 80
Went positionless and left out the best player he could have in that scenario in hooper
Names an untested squad when there were 4 games in the rugby championship in which to test them.
That and the embarrassing spectacle of being the crazy drunk grandpa of the coaching world has left me personally doubting everything Eddie says. Why believe all the grand claims when you’ve given us nothing to believe in.
Also remember that only Japan have been a better team after an Eddie tenure. Every other team is left in a heap. Australia still haven’t recovered from eddies first stint in charge. And RA stupidly said “more of that please” 😒.
