    Although they might suprise us yet (they didn't look that spectacular before the last world cup either), the most encouraging news out if Japanese rugby is that they've said they want to organise the 2035 RWC, and they want to go into that world cup as the #1 team in the world. Now everybody has a plan until it's scrum down against a Springbok forward pack, so there's no guarantee their plan will succeed, but it's a level of ambition that shows Japan are in this for the long run.

      Japan and ireland probably have the chance to develop a good underage development aswell. I know some school rugby was big when I was over there and there was rugby pitch where we stayed so possibly, England on the other hand will be lucky to have a national league by then, with no funding toward underage games

    • @R.J._Lewis

      If there's any nation in the world that can do something like that through sheer determination, I'd say it was the Japanese. They're smart, they love sport, they love to support their national side. It's a heady mixture.

    • @Luic1987
      @Luic1987 Год назад

      @@GRB-tj6ujI'd say that's great but the 2nd best consequence.
      The best outcome has already happened for long term growth in the USA (and to a lesser extent Canada) failing to qualify.
      There's no way with 2031 being a North American tournament that the US can fail to qualify for 2027.
      I think we're almost certain to see expansion announced after the wc now to 24 or 25 teams for next edition.
      That plus a six nations side having to qualify would be brilliant for the intl schedule.
      I'd love that to be England but think Wales is more likely, and Italy just as likely in their group

    Not a word on the test vs Italy that I was ar the stadium to watch...I think that match gave an idea about the values of both teams at the moment. It was also an important win for Italy, even if it was a warm up match. Anyway, I've always liked Japan, they have just a little too many players coming from the outside but they're not really different from other teams by this perspective. They play a very fast rugby, maybe they are not dominant physically, struggling against some particularly strong and powerful teams, though having good skills and set pieces. I'd love to see them in the quarter finals and England kicked out of the pool stage...but keep an eye on Samoa too! ;-)
