Absolutely, depending on what kind of a platform you work on, or the command, your day to day IT could be as little as sitting around waiting for helpdesk tickets to come in or setting up and administering servers. There's always something new. However it does get a little repetitive. On the radio side it may depend on the mission, although I don't have as much experience on that. For me, I usually come into work, check my emails, and get helpdesk tickets done. It's almost like being in a civilian job, and honestly you get a lot of skills to take out into the real world. You just have to want it that bad. The hours can vary; you can have 9-5 days or days where you get watch, meaning you have to stay a little longer. Ship side it's a little different, basically 12 on 12 off. Sometimes even more. It comes with the territory. We don't crank on shore lol, but we do send you TAD. Where you go TAD depends on your chain on command. Actual physical labor? IT's do everything man. You either go radio side or ADP, like IT Jen says. But it can go even deeper to where you're setting up internet for ships or going to admirals and fixing their phones. Squadron side it might be a little of the same albeit you'll be one of if not the only IT there. I can answer any more questions if y'all have em.

@@burcelljc_2306 Wow, you replied quick. Nice to see someone who replies fast. Usually I wait like a day or two. Anyway, thanks for the information. I was just watching the video to make sure I didn't have to be in a dull boring looking environment. By the way, do you happen to know if that is something that happens, if so how can you maximize your chance of not getting a dull, depressing sort of environment. Right now I am talking to a navy recruiter for joining and all I need is to get my High School diploma and other stuff and then I'm good to go. But I want to try to get information about how to maximize the aesthetic of my potential environment. Do you have any ideas? If so, what? Also, does knowing japanese and having a CompTIA A+ Certificate give me priority for getting a Navy IT job when compared to others without a Certificate and would I have an easier time going to japan if they needed someone and I already spoke Japanese? Or would someone who outranked me be able to get the Japan location even if he didn't speak japanese simply because he ranked higher? Please respond, thanks in advance, although I will probably thank you again after you respond. Later
Keep in mind when reading this that i am not yet in the fleet working as an IT. I have however done extensive research as to what IT life entails, but there will always be things that you have to find out yourself. As for your working environment, I have come to understand that you will be working in a very cold room with other ITs and all the networking, admin, computers and other hardware. That is for the admin side and im not sure if thats the same on the radio side. Which you will end up with is not up to you. Whether or not it is a miserable environment will most likely be determined by those you work with. It is a workplace. It functions as such. Anything else is not guaranteed. Now if you're wanting to be stationed in Japan, there is a fair chance of that happening throughout your enlistment but if you're wanting to do that immediately, than you are gonna want to be the top of your class in A school and C school if you have it. The orders that can be taken are put on the board at the end and everyone in the class (organized by how well they scored. Higher the score, the earlier you get to pick.) chooses an order. Rank is irrelevant.

Jay Gamble what's your current rate? And how easy is it to switch to a different rate after two years? I'm future IC but want to change rate to IT. From what I hear IC is undermanned do not sure how likely I will be able to change when I can?
series25a my current rate is SGT but I am currently in DEP till June 13th. I've been conversing with a few people including family members that are currently serving in the Navy and that is what they are telling me (same thing my recruiter said). Switch my rate after doing 2yrs. As far as how easy, everyone says "get all your quals, certifications, etc and give them a reason why they shouldn't let you switch your rate" pretty much take care of your business and stay out of trouble lol. I wish I could speak more on what you heard about IC being undermanned but I don't have any info I that.
03:09 - I'm sorry Jen, but I gotta call bullshit on this one. Unless you were stationed onboard USS Lollipop or ITC worked out a deal with CSC (maybe you had a critical cert or something IDK about), all E-4 and below (except corpsman) crew go cranking for their first tour.
To all the people who were wondering about the advab score. I’m a future sailor I got IT/ATF and had a score of 64 on the ASVAB. Don’t know if that’s high or low for IT.
Hey JT was in my recruiters office the other day getting all my paperwork straight and there was a dude waiting for us to get done. My recruiter started playing you 5 types of people at navy boot camp video for him to watch in the meantime lol. As a 22 year old about to go in, Ive been in the workforce for a while and have seen in all my jobs that people skate by with just the bare minimum. i have a reclassification request submitted for IS. it hasnt shown up yet but i hope i get it besides that im going to be an LS in the navy i ship out sept 11th
Really debating with myself with this problem: I'm a 15 year old at a stem school and pretty good grades, I want to do either 0651 in the marines or a similar job in IT for the navy. Any advice or info would be great, I know a bit about the marines and I'm still learning about the navy.
ITs can be stationed anywhere in the world. Iraq? Hell yeah. Middle of nowhere California? You bet. Norfolk? Most definitely. We rotate out front sea to shore (or shore to sea) on a 36 month schedule normally. Our primary duties include maintaining radio/satellite communications for the ship, maintaining and administrating our local network, and maintenance on satellites, servers, printers, that sort of thing.
I appreciate this, I am fresh out of high-school and was into a trade school for information technology. I am thinking about enlisting in the Navy as an I.T. is there any advice you can give me? Will my previous technical education help me in any way?
ASVAB isn't hard. Just read books in general and get the understanding of those words and their context. Also get a basic reintro to statistics, algebra, and geometry. Also maybe a little bit of physics and electrical systems.
Thanks, I ended up auto qualifying for Nuke; although since my high school is non traditional, I had to take the NAPT. I ended up failing that by 4 points :/. I'm going in as an AECF (Advanced Electronics/ Computer Field) now, but I might change my rate to IT (Information Systems Technician)

You guys remember your ASVAB line score ? I suck at math I got really low scores in the pre ASVAB …They said I need a pretty high score but I’m pretty good with computers already , know networking and Linux and some python programming
I couldn't find any videos on IT! This helped me a lot
Pick your rate, pick your fate. IT is better than alot of jobs on the ship.
6 tills till bootcamp as a navy IT, Hyped asf.
How was it?
five more days before i start boot camp as an IT!!!
Can you guys explain the line scores to get an IT? What does 2MK mean? Does that mean they will double your MK score and add it to your other values to get 222?
I fucks with jt bro I been trying to understand what an IT was for a while now... your the goat 🔥
Great vid fam. Can't wait for the Seabee vid. Congrats on the 30k. 👌👌❤❤
hell yeah I'm going in as an IT in May
Warren Dressor Same bro what day lol
Warren Dressor pensacola is lit I'm here rn as a student for IT ya'll will like it
Miguel Fuentes What do y'all do for fun?
Warren Dressor I'm going to try and do IT if you ever want to go do something cool lemme know I used to live in Pensacola 😂
Good luck guys! I ship off a week from Monday, IT as well.
Hahaha I knew you were going to do some type of edit after that golf cart went by. Haha it cracked me up because for a slight second I thought you were gonna let it go. Hahaha you're the best JT!
;)
I was a data systems tech back in the early 80s, it’s too bad they did away with the historical rating and then rebuilt it as IT
Finally a SeaBee video. I've wanted one since you talked brought up a Seabee at your schooling! Go COWBOYS!!!$!
At Corry Station for CT "A" school. It's good but location-wise it kind of sucks because there isn't much to do on base during liberty. NAS has all the great stuff.
#NotificationSquad 👋🏼
lots of good info here, glad i found this
You are awesome man! Im planning on joining the coast guard or navy. Greetings from Puerto Rico.
wat up fam !!
How hard is it to become an IT, or what do you need to score in order to be able to become an IT? I’m really interested in joining the navy but unsure we’ll I’m clueless on what I have to do.
what up Fam!!! One of the vids I was waiting for. I plan to switch over to IT after my two years. Looking forward to more in depth IT vids with ITJen lol.
I leave for Boot camp on the 25th of January ! Anyways, my rate is IT and I am excited !
love the video, cheers
I live in Central Florida. I'm also a big computer nerd. Seems good
Love IT Jen!!
03:09 - I'm sorry Jen, but I gotta call bullshit on this one. Unless you were stationed onboard USS Lollipop or ITC worked out a deal with CSC (maybe you had a critical cert or something IDK about), all E-4 and below (except corpsman) crew go cranking for their first tour.
lol ,,,, yooooooo i'll follow up with her on the cranking comment XD
except Corpsman.
Yeah, that's true about corpsman.
TBF, I think she meant second class since ITs, like STGs, rank up fast too.
cranking? meaning to say working a lot of hours except hm?
51 deeeeeep
I’m in route to pick my rate soon and this is a top one for me but want to know as an IT do you learn coding and web development?
Thanks for this video i change my mind on my job haha
what up fam!!! if you can, can you do a video on the IC rating... please, I can't find any first hand info on the rating and I ship out in July
I was in Pcola for A school and the hotel parties were lit!
To all the people who were wondering about the advab score. I’m a future sailor I got IT/ATF and had a score of 64 on the ASVAB. Don’t know if that’s high or low for IT.
Riley Muehlberger i got 95 and got it...No idea what the average is
I just finished MEps my rate IT and leave for bootcAmp 20190507 !!
I chose IT 2 days ago! Ship out date 20190916
@@nameless140 What was your ASVAB score for IT?
@@SoulOctavius I had made a 64 and now I'm in "A" school
Just took my ASVAB last week, looking for IT but i want more information on it. thanks in advance
Congratulations on 30k
thnx brudda
Hows life as an IT in the reserve? Do you get deployed a lot?
Hey JT was in my recruiters office the other day getting all my paperwork straight and there was a dude waiting for us to get done. My recruiter started playing you 5 types of people at navy boot camp video for him to watch in the meantime lol. As a 22 year old about to go in, Ive been in the workforce for a while and have seen in all my jobs that people skate by with just the bare minimum. Will my strong work ethic help me advance when I'm in (most of my jobs have been manual labor)? (It doesn't make much of a difference in the civilian world from my experience).
lol thats awesome ,, tell your recruiter I said wat up !!
and you'll do good man ,, if you really have a strong work ethic and prove it to your first command then you will def stand out and make moves fam !
Hear from the Hood with jt fam
I should be taking my ASVAB on Friday; I'm hoping to get Nuc. Any tips?
#ITJen I'm majoring in Information Assurance in college, will it help me a lot when I sign up for the Navy? Love the vids man!
I love that song at the beginning
Great video
Is the A school mainly based in Pensacola? Because I know there is another A school on Indiana or something...
Awesome Shit. this series is going far, I make a fc and ET video!
thanks ej fam !
Swore in last Friday as an IT, leave in November!
Its 20171104. You ship out yet or you still waiting? I ship out 20180612. Good luck to you!
Does the Navy put you on Subs due to needs or Submarine is voluntary with every job
Jay Man Subs is voluntary. They ask you at MEPS if you want to volunteer for submarines. I'm currently in ITS (Information Systems Technician Submarines)F school.
Congratulations to ya man and appreciate the response!
What is the ASVAB score to qualify for this career?
Lol i got a 34 asvab and IT appeared in my jobs and Submarine jobs. I got submarine missle tech, but im changing it back to IT, i hope they accept my request this week!
36'
Jose Garcia that’s weird because minimum navy ASVAB score is like 50, a dude in my bootcamp score a 50 and all he qualified for was CS...
#askJT when are we going to get some info about the CT Spook life? I'm leaving as a CTT/AEF here shortly.
I was wondering if you happen to know any aerographers? (AG) or have any experience working with AG's? Advancement and stuff like that? Thanks!
AG = Meteorology/oceanography for enlisted.
ITS, ITS,ITS 2020
got good asvab scores, thinking of IT or Nuke, thanks for the video
Nuke is terrible if you want any free time
Heading to MEPS tomorrow and I still have no idea what rate I should choose. I got a 64 on the PiCAT and I’m debating on choosing IT, OS, MA, or HM. Could anyone give more info?
I hope you chose IT very useful once out to get a high paying job
i have a reclassification request submitted for IS. it hasnt shown up yet but i hope i get it besides that im going to be an LS in the navy i ship out sept 11th
So ,what is the , Rate Crow, Ensign, for -"IT" ? Same as, admin, a "BOOK" & Feather?
Charleton Zimmerman no we have 4 lightning bolts
Really debating with myself with this problem: I'm a 15 year old at a stem school and pretty good grades, I want to do either 0651 in the marines or a similar job in IT for the navy. Any advice or info would be great, I know a bit about the marines and I'm still learning about the navy.
@JTSuits Does IT-Jen have her own RUclips channel?
Awesome!!!!
lots of mummbleing & i still have no idea what an it does in a day or more on land or a ship
Is the ASVAB for dummies 2016/2017 the ONLY ASVAB study guide that I'll need to do score high enough to get Nuc?
Jerod Rumney I have a review on study books on my page bro watch it. it was specifically on the asvab dummies books
I took it last month and I swore in 2 days ago
Oh nice, what did you end up getting? I got a 97 and picked IT. Already at my command but let me tell you, IT is not for the slow of mind.
I'm a hopeful IT - any idea how easy or hard it would be to get my bachelor while in the service as one?
Samantha Houston if you are on shore duty and get fully qualified, easy. You can apply for tuition assistance that will pay for most of the classes. Just don’t over burden yourself with more classes than you can handle
What do you need to score on the asvab to make IT?
I think it lines on your line scores but I knew a guy who got it in the mid 60s range. If you can get a 70 you should be good
I got a Pilipino CS1 as a fried, he hooks me up with food all the time
3:45 Wow. My friend and I got same exact orders to a squadron and now we're 4 ITs. LPO said we're getting another this October. We hit the gold mine! Haha.
What can Jen tell about Information Professional? Did she work with any of them or knew any of them?
