We're currently living near Oaxaca City and I heard several places here were recognized. But I agree with you two, it's kind of ludicrous because there's so many awesome places with amazing food (and I don't mean the fancy tourist restaurants, either.) We love trying foods at the mercados and also our favorite taxi driver who's become our friend (he has lived here his whole life) has turned us onto many of his favorite places. It just doesn't get much better than that!
I’m glad to hear you enjoy the gamut of Mexican gastronomy 😋 People here are already talking about “the Michelin Effect” and how it’s going to make it more difficult for locals to access these restaurants.
These Michelin Reviewers are going to have a field day in Tijuana by giving stars left and right all over the city because the best tacos in all of México are here in Tijuana.
100% correct. Been to CDMX, GDL, Tequila, Valle, Rosarito, Vallarta, Cancun (gross), Monterey, and all 2 or 3 times… TIJUANA blows these places away for the tacos and the Mariscos are decent too.
This Michelin star rating is a HUGE deal & this is only the beginning. For this reason, we all need to support & not be critical. Do I have my favorite taqueria? Yes. Would I wait hours to eat at the Taqueria El Califa de Leon? Yes. We must support la gastronomia Mexicana so other Mexican restaurants get recognized. Unidos siempre! 🇲🇽
Yes and no. The recognition of the Michelin Star is an amazing award/achievement but it also comes with consequences. Locals who used to eat at Califa will no longer be able to eat on a daily basis due to the large line of tourists waiting to try “Michelin” rated taco. The taco is great it deserves its Michelin star but we don’t need a fancy star to know that our food is amazing.
Not many people are aware that prior for Michelin to award any star to a restaurant, they first take into consideration the *_social, economic and political_* conditions of the country itself. So, behind the Michelin awarding system, there are a lot of economic and political intentions. All across Mexico there are several places with superb and exquisite food, where are their Michelin stars (for whatever it's worth)?? Why some people still search for the validation of Europe (France in this case), if a French chef doesn't "approve" or like a certain non-European food, then that food isn't worth it? Saludos, y sigan disfrutando de su madre patria mexicana.
If you want the best carne asada tacos in all of mexico you have to go to tacos el ruso in tijuana and yes better than any other carne asada tacos in all of mexico
I just ate there a few days ago and I waited for about an hour and a half in line because of the news about the Michelin star. I agree with you that it wasn’t worth the wait because I saw no difference between these tacos and plenty of other taco stands in CDMX!
How about a tour of the huge street-food area near the Mexico City Metro Station "Revolución" You could do breakfast, lunch, dinner and night-shift tours of the huge street food area (it's open 24/7). It's a great example of street food in the world's best city for street food, Mexico City.
Guys, you must check this place out! Los Parados here in Roma Sur on Monterrey St. and Baja California has the best tacos I’ve ever eaten including the Poblano Con Queso (2) tacos for only 59 pesos! These guys are the best since 1965!! 2024 Michelin award!!
Los parados are so good we lived for a couple of weeks around the corner from there. We would go 2-3 times a week. When the barbie movie came out they had pink tortillas made with beet juice they we soo damn good!!!!!. Also just down the block, Kevin goes to watch the bears games with Chicago bears group here in CDMX>
I was in CDMX a couple weeks ago and unfortunately I didn’t have the time to wait 2hrs for the Michelin taco star.. but I went to this taqueria near the Chapultepec metro station called Tako Capital. I ordered a simple bistec one and the meat was fire 🔥.. my wife had the alambre one and a chorizo, and they were delicious.
I am sure they are good but there's no way I am waiting that long for a plate. I'll come back another time. Lot's of great food all over, especially in Mexico.
Looks good! I think you sold me on the salsa! Maybe we’ll wait for the hype to die down! We had our first Michelin star meal back in December in Buenos Aires. We felt so fancy! 😂 I made a video of it on my channel.
Cool, just bought a plane ticket to go in June, i'll see how long the lines are then. Not waiting for two hours unless i can chat some Mexicanos up with my broken Spanish :) Oh hey guys, i watched some of your music vids, can you please make one on Cumbia?!

But I travel to mx at least once every 2-4 months , do you think this would be convenient for me , and can you please check the availability of flights from Chicago to zacatecas. I’m just trying to see if it will be worth it considering that the flights from chicago to zac aren’t always full, Thank you in advance!!
Glad it was worth the wait, not sure on film I see much of a distinction of other meat tacos I have had, but I know the taste can make a big difference
Ésos tacos están ubicados en la delegación Iztapalapa en la esquina de Tultepec y Carranza antes de llegar a Plutarco Elías Calles visítenos y no se arrepentiran
I had the opportunity to try these Michelin star tacos couple of weeks ago. They are definitely good, well prepared and the salsas are wonderful. But I don't think they are that great for staying hours in line. There are soooooooooo many great street taquerias in Mexico city that the Califa del Leon, for me, would just rank as one the good ones. But far from the best one.
Vayan a la taquería que abrieron Luisito Comunica/Oscar de la Capital/La ruta de la garnacha que se llama el remolkito de Sirloin en la colonia del valle en cdmx.
Just subscribed to your channel. You guys are doing an amazing job. This Michelin Tequiera is way over-hyped...too long of a wait, (3hrs, no thanks) I'll eat any other tacos in Mexico 🇲🇽 that are amazing.
Honestly I would never wait 3 hours for a Taco. I hope the guys open up a restaurant taqueria. So people come in and sit down properly and eat their tocos.
I'm totally OK getting a taco from a truck when I lived in LA, It's hard to mess up. I would agree some of these places aren't worth the wait. I frequent Thailand often and I think they count 35 street food vendors with a star in Bangkok alone. I prefer an old line school generated or quality then by a line created by some recognition that has been watered down. I love street food and I've seen this recognition abused once accredited with higher prices. It'll get worse than getting a cheapened star on Hollywood Blvd. I'm fine with Tacos de Guedo in Tijuana, or an ambulatory set-up in Pico-Union . .... The most I waited in line was three hours at Pecan Lodge in Dallas for bbq. There's always many good options at a hawker stand near you.
I follow my own star to good food. I don’t need some big corporation telling me where to go. Do the tacos de canasta, 1/2 block from zocalo in Mexico City. You will see the line out the door, they we fantastic.
The founders of the Michelin company came up with the idea of making a "food tour guide" around France to basically increase the demand of cars so people could drive to those places, so the further they would drive the faster the tires would wear and thus increase their sales.......or something like that, but yeah is called after the Michelin company cause the founders of it came up with the guide

Yo conozco unos tacos de bistec con tortilla echa a mano nopalitos y papas a la a Francesa y mucho mejor que ésos y esos si deverian tener estrella Michelin
I went to Mexico City, and It is not worthy, it is more better tacos in other places in Mexico City, and I think you should tell the true that is not worthy as we as tourist we go and waste a lot of time 3 hours of our vacation just to eat a normal taco that I can eat in California with better taste, and that can be bought in Mexico City in another taquerias in Mexico.
I worked at a restaurant in Los Angeles that received a star, highlight of my career! It was such an amazing experience and the disapline taught in that kitchen has followed me to be successful throughout my journey as a chef. It definitely falls on consistency, which was drilled into us on a daily basis and paid off.
I had them and meh, they will fill you up but they tasted like any other one I’ve had, the salsa was weak. You want to try some real gourmet food, go to Oaxaca, that’s where I would rate the food a 9/10.
We did ask ourselves… if there was any political or commercial involvement behind this decision! Because, yea, out of ALL amazing tacos in Mexico, how did they settle on just this one? Wild
isn't michelin a french word, what do the europeans even know about tomatos, potatoes, and tortillas? I doubt they have any real ideas about good Indigenous American food. I'd only trust an older native mom or granny.
