  • The Yasen-class submarines, a remarkable creation born from Soviet design bureaus in the late 1950s, are a mighty force on the high seas. With advanced design and technological prowess, they instill fear in the West even in 2023.
Despite facing initial financial and construction challenges, the Yasen class has emerged as a symbol of Russian naval innovation. These submarines, exemplified by the lead unit Severodvinsk, are celebrated for their exceptional quietness, an attribute crucial for stealth operations.
Equipped with an array of fearsome weaponry, including hypersonic missiles, their capabilities have captured the admiration of military observers.
Moreover, the Yasen-M variant, characterized by heightened features and quicker construction times, adds a new dimension to Russia's submarine strategy. As they redefine maritime warfare dynamics, the Yasen-class submarines hold the promise of reshaping global naval power equations.

@@sams9716 Russian hypersonic missiles are more of a joke than a threat. What?
To catch up with Russia in the development of the latest weapons, the United States will have to make a breakthrough in at least three areas - the creation of hypersonic weapons, air defense systems and electronic warfare systems!
former chief of electronic warfare of the US ground forces, Laurie Buckhut, admitted: “Our capabilities are not even one tenth of those of the Russian army!”
the appearance of a Russian nuclear submarine a kilometer from Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty caused not only panic in the Pentagon, but breaking news releases and mortal horror that gripped all Americans without exception!
The Russian General Staff was extremely surprised when the crew commander attached photographs of the Statue of Liberty and strolling tourists on Manhattan Island to the radiogram reporting his location!
Russia is the first country in the world to adopt hypersonic missiles and is currently producing them in series!
The USA still doesn’t have anything like that!

After all we are sending obsolete surplus to the Ukrainians, wars like this are nothing but a testbed for weapon R&D and disposal of old equipment. Russian tech always looks great on paper. But Ukraine has shed the light on Russian military inferiority - poorly designed, poorly maintained, and underperforming weapons everywhere. Remember when the world thought the invincible Kinzal missile was hypersonic? Patriot deals with them quite handily now.

A lot of the times it's not the tech but the user and how it's used. For instance, Russian doctrine of using air power under the umbrella of AA cover limited their ability to gain air superiority over Ukraine. And their ground units didn't organize themselves into defensive formation before advancing, so AA cover from ground installations were limited at best. Ukraine was smart in the opening salvo by forcing the Russians into an all ground engagement, while maintaining the skies by denying them an environment they were trained (a very lose term from what I hear about their pilot training program) for, despite Ukraine using 40 year old planes. Add in the chaos of improvised drone attacks, and it all came to a hault after little gains.

Lmfao, you do know Russia os fighting over 40 nato countries at once and is not losing but actually getting stronger and especially in drones alone? How many western "game changers" have failed in the last 2 years? Why is ukraine not allowed to deploy the abrahms that have been their for months?

If I were Russia, I'd be doubling down on submarines and artificial island emplacements in the Arctic ocean before it opens up for year-round merchant shipping lanes. If Russia can hold the waters north of Siberia, they'll control one of the best water routes between the Atlantic and Pacific.
If Russia were extremely smart, they'd also give China back the lands taken during The Sino-Soviet border conflict. That would allow China to heavily patrol a small portion of the waterway, and Russia needn't be stretched thin, patrolling such a large area. An area stretching from northeast of Finland, all the way the the Chukchi Sea, west of the Bering Straits. It's not as big viewed on a globe, but as with open water, difficult to take ownership, even harder to enforce.

Yes all well and good but can they leave port without catching fire or being towed? Seriously this is nonsense this is Russian 1970's design. Hypersonic missiles are overrated and with current restrictions how msny do you think they can build. This is only scary for the fact it is nuclear capable, when insurgents figure a way to get a nuke on a Toyota pickup i will equally fear the Toyota pickup. Put this up against an Astute or hell Trafalgar class sub and i know where my money is. Same goes for Virginia/Sea Wolf/Los Angeles if i was in the Russian navy i'd worry a lot more about lack of maintenance and ending up on the seabed.
