Excellent movie and Claire Foy absolutely nailed her part. I’m a nurse and I’ve also been a patient in a locked ward “for my own safety”....I had a breakdown after my dad died suddenly, two friends died within 3 months of my dad dying and their deaths...all unexpect - heart attacks and suicide. Then I was driving home from the shops, ( I live in the Scottish highlands and my closest shop is 8 miles away), and I found a dying motorcyclist on the road and he died in my arms.....this was 6 months after the other deaths. I was fine for a wee while but finally I broke and was admitted to hospital. Anyway, seeing Claire Foy act in this movie was something that brought back memories but she did an amazing job of not cheapening the part of a mentally ill person. She was fantastic in The Girl In The Spider’s Web too. I really enjoyed this movie and I rarely leave comments about films I’ve watched, but this was one where I didn’t get bored or fidgety halfway through and that’s rare for me!

If they deem you at a risk to yourself or others, they can place you on a 51/50 hold which is 72 hours involuntary. It could happen when someone is seeking help outside of inpatient means and are deemed a risk and placed without their consent, as a safety measure. Happened to me as well, I had a voluntary stay and they thought I was still a risk and placed me on a 51/50. Hence Forth do you know the ending?? Do you know what the real plot points are?? No, you don't. So stop acting like you know absolutely everything because you don't
Hence Forth they make it seem like the plot points are given when they are truly not. Have you ever seen the "Next Up" at the end of doctor who episodes? They feel like they give everything away, when truly, what they are showing is minor and was cut to seem major.
Lance Exactly. I consider it to be some kind of disease. Trailer-itis or something. A trailer has to reveal the basic narrative, like the back-cover of a fucking book. It is like saying I won't read a book because I glanced at the back-cover. I see less and less movies nowadays but not because of the revealing trailers. Because of the lack of interesting narratives and of shallow character development.
Jacob Gallegos The initial protagonist is very clearly the dead body they found, probably killed by the institution, and then it switches to her mother's POV for the rest of the film. That's a good 3/4 of the movie. Trailers shouldn't give away that much.
My guess: she thinks it's all in her head because she moved to a new city, got a new job and everything so it'd be logistically nearly impossible. But he really is still stalking her. Rewatch the trailer and you'll note they go out of their way to make a point of her 'KNOWING' it can't be him
+Maliha Intikhab " Claire does a pretty good american accent. " Spam. You work for her British camp. Better to hire an American actress who can do an even BETTER American accent. Makes sense, doesn't it?
+penandpaper " She does but then again her British accent was a large part of her appeal. She just seems like a random nobody in this. " You are ALL British commenting on here complimenting her accent. There is nothing appealing about a British accent. Nothing appealing about this actress, nothing appealing at all. She's a nobody. I'll never watch The Crown and could care less about it. So now what? Whatcha gonna say? Bwuhaha!
SPOILERS: The conventional explanation of the movie's ending is that Sawyer's stalker, David Strine is actually real but that she had also experienced post-traumatic hallucinations of him while the real stalker was still pursuing her. Those hallucinations being the first time Sawyer supposedly saw him in the movie which turned out to be some chubby dude with a beard and moustache (whom she proceeds to punch) and of course the random guy during the ending at a restaurant. But it turned out the real stalker was the second employee Sawyer saw at the hospital. So Sawyer must have had a real stalker and also hallucinated him several times. BUT I wanna argue it only seems like David Strine is real because we seem him in scenes involving settings that Sawyer is not even present in. Like when Nate was tortured and killed by David which Sawyer never witnesses at all. But we the audience do see it and so we trust it. Things happening around Sawyer we don't trust because she's an unreliable narrator. But things happening to other characters that probably aren't insane (Sawyer's mother being visited by David, a jogger and her dog finding Nate's dead body, etc) we do trust. But that is exactly the rule that movies follow. To label things that occur around sane characters to be objective reality. In actuality, the movie might be trying to subvert that rule. Just because we see events surrounding sane characters, doesn't mean they can be trusted either. Just because something happens beyond a potentially unreliable narrator like Sawyer, doesn't mean it can be trusted. Just as is the case in real life with those suffering from such paranoid delusions and hallucinations who can create elaborately false realities. The movie makes you think you can trust your own sanity just because it's a movie and that's how movies present sanity to the audience. When in actuality, the movie itself might be tricking you into following those rules. Even the audience isn't an omniscient third-person viewer. Sometimes it's a matter of unreliable narration. But other times it can be an example of unreliable viewing. Maybe I'm overanalyzing but if I'm right, Steven Soderbergh is even more of a genius than I thought.
Dude! Your comment is right underneath the trailer! My brain started reading the first couple of lines as the brain automatically does when you scan through comments and what I read better not ruin the film for me.
His thrillers all have this...I don't know how to describe it, it's this unnerving emptiness that makes everything feel unreal and far away, and gets under your skin. I don't know how he does it, but it's masterful.
+Alexander Arruda. Is that what that "Side Effects" movie was like? Both trailers have the same vibe and they both look pretty awesome (I'm a complete sucker for psychological thrillers)
Side Effects is amazing, very very much worth the watch and yes, the tone seems very similar. Soderbergh is an incredibly versatile director. He can create neo-dadaist personal passion projects, high-budget fun for everyone heist movies, and taut, tense, atmospheric psychological thrillers and move effortlessly between the genres.
Unsane looks like to it will be an extremely intense psychological horror/thriller. It looks much more highly strung than Side Effects was. Spoiler Warning Does anyone think that orange in the trailer looks exactly like the one Rooney Mara's character was imprisoned in Side Effects by Jude Law's character or is it me?
+Jacob Taylor I am so confused reading this comment x'3 What are you so mad at?? Did I miss something? Did a comment get deleted or something that I didn't see??? Nani????
+Jacob Taylor Huh, okay. I kinda see what you're saying? Buuuut if that's the case if someone is so easily affected by movies with a theme like this, they probably shouldn't watch it in the first place, right? Like with horror movies. Some people get spooked by them and end up on edge for a few days or so before the feeling fades. If they don't want that happening, then don't watch movies like that (one of the reasons I don't watch horror movies myself). I don't see the harm in being excited for the movie tho~
As someone who has gone through a psychosis this movie is incredibly well made and if you dislike it you are a big poopyhead , i was involuntary commited myself 11 years ago at the age of 18 due to a hard breakout of psychosis talking bout demons angels possession , rampaged through the city stole plenty bikes took 5 cops to pin me down , bit the doc in the arm all that crazy stuff. summa summarum - i was lucky to be in the EU where healthcare actually exists and after half a year of treatment being locked up and given rights to venture outside again i was cured. i dont wish it upoin anyone to be locked away from life - i lost 90%my friends i lost my education couldn´t go back to school and im stuck on welfare being a useless piece of shit because it fucked me up so badly. now this is not my lifestory but a warning to you all - if something isnt right in your head - seek help and dont front , dont act up - let it happen. people nurses doctors medication are only 33% of whats going to fix you , the rest is sheer will and commitment to being healthy again and admitting that you ARE SICK. i could write books about all the staffmembers and patients and how they fell back into bad habits or neglected treatment and 2 weeks later i saw em again in a much worse shape. stay safe and let people reach out to you , do not hide under the false assumption that its just a phase its not and it can happen again anytime.
Jonathan Bejay I've been in the mental facility 5 times for my schizophrenia. I had episodes and the longest I ever stayed in a mental facility was 2 weeks and a half(sometimes it felt longer). The pills messed me up and I had horrible side effects from it. I'm glad for the experience tho and am better now. I also have voices in my head, some are delusions of people I know or don't know, aliens, demons & angels. So I know what u mean. This movie was great and I could relate to it, in that aspect of wanting to get out but being stuck in a mental hospital. This movie was a trip.
For anyone wondering why this doesn't really look professional, it's because it was shot on an iPhone. I get the point, and it is kind of inspiring, but it really doesn't look good.
atarix Ikr i don't understand I did recently a short installation film (is in my channel btw) for a school festival challenge to make a 1 min artsy film and I shot it with an 2016 Samsung phone and it looks 1000x better than this film so im thinking maybe the look of this film was probably intentional
Are they even using the newest iPhones? It looks like something out of an iPhone 6 or something. ANY recent phone can take better videos than what's shown here. Or are they going for this "bad quality" look? I don't think it's working that well.
TessellatedGuy in the comments they said they used the iPhone 7 as it was 5e most popular phone in the us or something so they don’t use the latest one
I’m a David,, And I’ve also had a stalker before, I can’t even type their name it freaks me out still. So terrifying. On behalf of David’s everywhere I’m sorry.
I just came from seeing the movie- it's horrible. The script is absolutely terrible and completely illogical, especially for someone who has worked in the mental health field. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Just one example- the visiting area they have is right next to an unlocked door to the outside and there isn't anyone there supervising them- why not just run out?!
If she can pull this role off then I'll be truly impressed... the movie is going to be carried almost exclusively by this young woman... looking forward to seeing this!!!
hm, reminds me of how large hospitals force their patients to take more medications and stay longer than necessary to fish them out of thier money...or maybe its all in my head. i must be insane
That's what happen to me. I went to the mental facility 5 times last year and the second time I was there, my schizophrenia was really bad and I had an episode which led them to keep me there for 2 weeks and a half. I wanted to get out so bad and they wouldn't let me. The pills messed me up tho, I had horrible side effects from it. But I'm better now, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was for the money also.
subwaysufer In Shutter Island they made it seem like he was sane and forced into a mental hospital with no way out but the twist was that he was actually insane and belonged there. It was a great movie and caught me by surprise but I wont fall for the same trick twice.
theDracolx Clearly you haven't watched Shutter Island or you simply do not have the intellect to understand it. As viewers we are given information that Leo's character is sane but doctors view him as insane just like how this trailer portrays this patient. We are given information (from her point of view) that she is thinking rationally and logical meanwhile everyone around her views her as crazy. Both movies have the same depiction. Next time hold your tongue and please do not try to sound smart when clearly you "do not think before speaking".
Impressive job by Soderbergh shooting this film on an iPhone 7! I heard if he makes enough money from the film he plans on upgrading to an iPhone 10 for his next film! Awesome!
I’ve suffered from depression and anxiety for many years and this is an absolutely, logic/reason destroying fear of mine. The thought that I might be locked up and tortured if I don’t try and act normal in public and hide my suffering well enough.
Crazy is when you're violent and shit. Not all mentally ill people are like that. And same. people will literally oppress shame and lock you up etc all kinds of shit if you aren't perfect , if its too hard for them, or you're even alittle bit different from what they know "must be crazy if you arent like me" jfc, P:
Just finished watching it. The trailer makes it seem like a low budget movie, but trust me it's not! It was so good and so dark! The acting was great! 8/10
Seems like a decent movie to watch, but with the specs of the iPhone. And even for a phone, iPhone camera isn't as to par with other flagshipped high spec phones, I won't be able to concentrate to this movie.. All I would be seeing is lack of image stabilization, terrible quality from 12MP, and choppy fade away from lighting which has been a bug for a few years now... The quality isn't really an issue since it's basically the same with the Galaxy and Pixel, but atleast the Galaxy and Pixel do everything else right, and have advanced options to enhance functionality..
Jack Lee, you're showing the limitations of your knowledge. Pro film makers don't even use image stabilisation. They are after exact movements of the frame, and they use various bits of kit for different stabilisation depending on requirements, jibs, dollies, steadicams, russian arms, cable cams, etc. 12MP is also more than 4k technically. As for the quality, simply putting footage on youtube downgrades the quality.
Jack Lee lol 😂 the video looks fine to me and I think they filmed it this way purposely they want it to look a bit unprofessional to make your feel more uneasy and to match the state of the character. If you don’t like how it was filmed then don’t watch the movie!
ThomasSkinner pretty cool they are doing it, but my personal opinion, don't like how they are using a phone... No one asked for this, idc if they be flexing their skills... Also they do use support and all these high tech equipment to make their 10k+ dollar camera to be even better
No Profesional cinematic camera has stabilization ;) All must be stabilized.. Iphone actually has stabilization. It is obviously on a tripod on every shot in the trailer.
This trailer gives me an adrenaline rush. Btw I watched this trailer like a million times until I was finally able to see the movie. I liked it a lot. This movie will be a classic in the future.
Some of it looks fine to me; other parts look kind of shitty just like they were, you know, shot on an iPhone. I'll be interested in seeing how other people react to the look of the film. Plot-wise, it looks like it could be good. Soderbergh tends to make films I like, and I also like Claire Foy, so I'm down to give it a shot.
Looks fantastic. I forgot it was an iPhone. The acting and story looks superb. Granted it is a trailer so it is heavy on the sound effects to help sell the cinematic feel. People may be dissing on the image quality cause they were *told* it was shot on the very phone in their pocket.
Soderbergh is INSANE for saying no one will be able to know it was shot on an iPhone - the resolution is garbage compared to cinema cameras... looks mega cheap.. it's all sound design.
As someone that works in the mental health field, this is not at all how involuntary treatment works. This is just a bunch of crap that scares people from getting help and stigmatizes people that receive mental health treatment.
yoitsmattrosario it’s a fictional movie who’s world building takes place here in the real world, present day. By doing so it limits itself to rules that exist now, including standard mental health procedures, unless the plot points jar with those set rules intentionally as a basic premise of the film, or the movie isn’t filmed in third person, but from the perspective of someone who could be hallucinating or be distorting reality (like the girl who’s being stalked). Movies must follow the rules of the world they’re set in. It’s the same reason a dragon here wouldn’t make any sense.
I can't believe they used an Iphone to film it! It makes seem like an old 90's movie because of the low quality ...but I love those old movies! Can't wait to watch it!

Lol! They're fekn everywhere. Beards, plaid shirts, skinny jeans, carrying yoga mats and a cup of single origin, ethically sourced, organic coffee.
Thanks for showing me the major plot points, i don't need to see the film now, well done modern trailer cutters.
Lance
Exactly.
Jacob C Meyer how did you come to that conclusion?? If it's her body, then how do you explain the scene with her saying "they've found a body"?
There's gonna be a crazy ass plot twist in the film lol, already calling it.
My money's on: she's actually the guy, and he's legitimately delusional thinking he's a woman being stalked... by himself.
She's probably the dead body they found. Note how only her mother is there for that part.
tirsden its like that one call of Duty Game where Mason imagine reznov but it was actually Woods
Idk I forgot what the game was about
My guess: she thinks it's all in her head because she moved to a new city, got a new job and everything so it'd be logistically nearly impossible. But he really is still stalking her. Rewatch the trailer and you'll note they go out of their way to make a point of her 'KNOWING' it can't be him
tirsden That would be amazing!
This movie is filmed on a phone

One of my favorite movies of 2018. Love psychological thrillers.
This is one of the most well done and original trailers for a movie I’ve seen recently. Definitely gonna see this one
Claire does a pretty good american accent.
Maliha Intikhab She must do a really good American accent because I don’t know who you’re talking about.
The Last Ugandan Warrior she’s Claire Foy from “the crown”.
She does but then again her British accent was a large part of her appeal. She just seems like a random nobody in this.
+Maliha Intikhab " Claire does a pretty good american accent. "
Spam. You work for her British camp. Better to hire an American actress who can do an even BETTER American accent. Makes sense, doesn't it?
+penandpaper " She does but then again her British accent was a large part of her appeal. She just seems like a random nobody in this. "
You are ALL British commenting on here complimenting her accent. There is nothing appealing about a British accent. Nothing appealing about this actress, nothing appealing at all. She's a nobody. I'll never watch The Crown and could care less about it. So now what? Whatcha gonna say? Bwuhaha!
Crown, Breath, now Unsane... Claire Foy continues to proves how immensely talented she is!!! :D
Hunter the movie sucked
Joe Klein no!!!
Also THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER WEB and FIRST MAN
She seriously has a lot of range
She must have a lot of time on her hands to be in 3 2018 movies
This is an incredible movie if you are into psychological thrillers I HIGHLY recommend it.
SPOILERS:
The conventional explanation of the movie's ending is that Sawyer's stalker, David Strine is actually real but that she had also experienced post-traumatic hallucinations of him while the real stalker was still pursuing her. Maybe I'm overanalyzing but if I'm right, Steven Soderbergh is even more of a genius than I thought.
how am i know seeing this...i have literally no idea what you just said my friend😃😃😃😃
Dude! Your comment is right underneath the trailer! My brain started reading the first couple of lines as the brain automatically does when you scan through comments and what I read better not ruin the film for me.
@@rosiece6137 lol sorry, I guess the word "spoiler" all in caps might not deter everyone from reading my comment
@@FilmFightFanatic 😂 Its ok. I think I overreacted earlier, sorry
@@FilmFightFanatic SPOILERS probably works fine for other people who have normal brains, not like mine 😅
I swear Soderbergh can film on a potato and still make it look good
Russo Wintergreen dude, wtf is wrong with you?
Was that a compliment?
Proving the point that it actually does matter what kind of camera you use...
Unsane looks like to it will be an extremely intense psychological horror/thriller. It looks much more highly strung than Side Effects was.
Spoiler Warning
Does anyone think that orange in the trailer looks exactly like the one Rooney Mara's character was imprisoned in Side Effects by Jude Law's character or is it me?
As someone who has gone through a psychosis this movie is incredibly well made and if you dislike it you are a big poopyhead , i was involuntary commited myself 11 years ago at the age of 18 due to a hard breakout of psychosis talking bout demons angels possession , rampaged through the city stole plenty bikes took 5 cops to pin me down , bit the doc in the arm all that crazy stuff.
summa summarum - i was lucky to be in the EU where healthcare actually exists and after half a year of treatment being locked up and given rights to venture outside again i was cured.
i dont wish it upoin anyone to be locked away from life - i lost 90%my friends i lost my education couldn´t go back to school and im stuck on welfare being a useless piece of shit because it fucked me up so badly.
now this is not my lifestory but a warning to you all - if something isnt right in your head - seek help and dont front , dont act up - let it happen.
people nurses doctors medication are only 33% of whats going to fix you , the rest is sheer will and commitment to being healthy again and admitting that you ARE SICK.
i could write books about all the staffmembers and patients and how they fell back into bad habits or neglected treatment and 2 weeks later i saw em again in a much worse shape.
stay safe and let people reach out to you , do not hide under the false assumption that its just a phase its not and it can happen again anytime.
lol nobody cares
Only if you had an iPhone 7 Plus.
You did great for yourself Sir!
@Adika shut the fuck up weeb.
to be honest i don’t mind the bad camera quality, it adds to the eerieness of the already creepy movie itself. would watch this movie :)
For anyone wondering why this doesn't really look professional, it's because it was shot on an iPhone.
I get the point, and it is kind of inspiring, but it really doesn't look good.
its not supposed to look good, its supposed to make you feel uneasy
right, because a good story is less important than the film production? that's how we got 6 transformers films. give small directors a chance.
But Tangerine was filmed with an iphone too and it looks way better.
Ketzzy Vargas I didn't say that.
Also, Soderbergh is not a small director. He did this to inspire small directors.
Indigo is purple I
A new soderbergh film, shot on an iPhone. I can’t wait to see this film.
imagine if it was shot on an Android?
not the best ad for an iphone cam, it deserves better
atarix Ikr i don't understand I did recently a short installation film (is in my channel btw) for a school festival challenge to make a 1 min artsy film and I shot it with an 2016 Samsung phone and it looks 1000x better than this film so im thinking maybe the look of this film was probably intentional
yeah, like wtf with the ratio here for example...

Brandon Reck lmao same bro it kinda reminds me of the movie Get Out but this one might beat it
pussy ass. retarded movie that is a waste of time effort and money
Uvop agreed was so wrong about this trash movie
I just came from seeing the movie- it's horrible. The script is absolutely terrible and completely illogical, especially for someone who has worked in the mental health field. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Just one example- the visiting area they have is right next to an unlocked door to the outside and there isn't anyone there supervising them- why not just run out?!
Looks awesome! Hope we get to show it.

She'll always be the Queen!!
Hope it doesn't have the same twist as Shutter Island..would be too predictable.
that's exactly what I thought. I hope this time the girl is actually sane or something like that
Product - and what's that?? I haven't watched that movie.
Bruce Willis is a ghost the whole time
subwaysufer In Shutter Island they made it seem like he was sane and forced into a mental hospital with no way out but the twist was that he was actually insane and belonged there.
Fresh, cool, high quality, underrated and remarkable indie movie ever
3 interesting facts about Unsane:
1) Shot on an iPhone 7
2) Shot in 10 days
3) Shot in chronological order
This movie was brilliant! I loved it!
Impressive job by Soderbergh shooting this film on an iPhone 7! I heard if he makes enough money from the film he plans on upgrading to an iPhone 10 for his next film! Awesome!

This would be terrible. I couldn’t imaging being locked up and I’m not crazy. 😳
Diana Prince *CRAAAAAZYY*
I’ve suffered from depression and anxiety for many years and this is an absolutely, logic/reason destroying fear of mine. The thought that I might be locked up and tortured if I don’t try and act normal in public and hide my suffering well enough.
Crazy is when you're violent and shit. Not all mentally ill people are like that. And same. people will literally oppress shame and lock you up etc all kinds of shit if you aren't perfect , if its too hard for them, or you're even alittle bit different from what they know "must be crazy if you arent like me" jfc, P:

Real shit
Seems like a decent movie to watch, but with the specs of the iPhone. And even for a phone, iPhone camera isn't as to par with other flagshipped high spec phones, I won't be able to concentrate to this movie.. All I would be seeing is lack of image stabilization, terrible quality from 12MP, and choppy fade away from lighting which has been a bug for a few years now... The quality isn't really an issue since it's basically the same with the Galaxy and Pixel, but atleast the Galaxy and Pixel do everything else right, and have advanced options to enhance functionality..
Jack Lee thank you someone who agrees that iPhones are shit just wait for the triggred I sheep to come in
Jack Lee, you're showing the limitations of your knowledge.

It's insane (heh) that this was all shot on an iPhone. Blew my mind!
Looks fantastic. I forgot it was an iPhone. The acting and story looks superb. Granted it is a trailer so it is heavy on the sound effects to help sell the cinematic feel. People may be dissing on the image quality cause they were *told* it was shot on the very phone in their pocket.
Soderbergh is INSANE for saying no one will be able to know it was shot on an iPhone - the resolution is garbage compared to cinema cameras... looks mega cheap.. it's all sound design.
lok I couldnt tell but the black bars at the two sides make it more obvious
As someone that works in the mental health field, this is not at all how involuntary treatment works. This is just a bunch of crap that scares people from getting help and stigmatizes people that receive mental health treatment.
You know this is a fictional movie?
yoitsmattrosario it’s a fictional movie who’s world building takes place here in the real world, present day.
