- It’s June 11th, 1962. I’m sitting in my cell, just after supper. The guard finished his rounds a few moments ago And now the other inmates are playing their instruments. It’s music hour, if you can believe it. But even though I’ve a squeeze box of my own, I ain’t playin’ tonight. I’m on three hours of sleep - if that. And I’ll be lucky if I get any at all the next 24 hours. That’s because I am Frank Morris, prisoner AZ 1441, and tonight - I am escaping Alcatraz.
It’s the most famous prison in the world. A fortress set atop 22 acres of rock. There it sits in San Francisco Bay, a mile and a half across turbulent waters from Fisherman’s wharf. Maybe on a good day, you can make out the Golden Gate Bridge, three miles away. If the fog has lifted, that is, and you ain’t huddled up in your peacoat ‘cause even in June it’s 60 degrees Fahrenheit and the wind is always blowing.

As a man who loves true crime stories I’ve watched and read the story of this escape more times than I can count. This is probably the best one. As always the animation is spot on and the story telling is compelling. Even though I know the story I’m captivated. Good job on another awesome “I Am”.

my grandma actually lived next to one of the prisoners mothers at the time, and the street was swarmed with police for weeks, and news reporters for months, trying to get a story and see if the criminal tried to return home.

It sucks how their escape probably made living conditions worse for all the other inmates. I hope the guards managed to tighten security without comprimising on their shift towards being kinder to the prisoners.

When I was in Alcatraz the way I decided to escape was building an airplane on the roof while fighting the zombies. But then Weasel sabotaged our plane and we hit the bridge and got stuck there :(

I know a way to lure them out of hiding: offer them commuted sentences AND back payments on royalties. If they’re still alive, they ARE technically owed something since they haven’t sold the rights to their life story, and yet all kinds of books, movies, and games are being made about them. Frankly (no pun intended), I’d want a piece of that pie if it were me!

Its only 2 people that were guards on Alcatraz that’s still alive today. And 1 prisoner. Except the few prisoners a few years before the prison shutted down, they escaped, but no one knows what happened to them. They could died while they tried swimming from the prison, or they are still alive Or died from natural reasons.
