The minute when he said when he was younger he did all sorts of stuff Dave please understand there wasn't a f****** pandemic going on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is killing people I know people who have it one is in the ER RIGHT NOW FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE!!!!! Unemployment is not a hand out folks. It is insurance. We all paid in to it. Take it, sit down shut up, get yourself back together, then strategically move on.
@Kinosis79 your worried about the debt
But not not people dieing. What a guy
Thank you. Someone with a brain is actually commenting...
Bev we have all paid some sort of tax or contributed to this country. Stand on your high moral ground all you want. This doesn’t matter to me at all anyway. I am personally doing great.
Unemployment is a safety net. While it saves you from hitting rock bottom, you need to keep fighting to get off of it. Those that live on it and have no desire to get off are the problem. So don't feel bad, but don't get comfy on it.
1. Collect unemployment
2. Look for work
3. Start a side hustle
Cash work lol

2. Deliver Amazon packages

Collect unemployment and dont put your family at risk.
Gerald Of Riveria especially when you are a single mom and no other family. I hate the idea of unemployment but will need it for a few months to ride out this wave. Not gonna put my health and little family at risk by working at Target, etc. Money isn’t *everything*. I’ll take the unemployment for now.

We totally agree with you. :)
BlackWorldTraveler Yeah but you’re eating it up
Unemployment pays more than the grocery store or dollar store right now.

Where did I say I was spending my emergency fund?
It’s for emergencies.
I have no emergency so not needed.
Still adding $500 biweekly to it and it’s earning over $600/mo. reinvested interest/dividend.
My emergency fund is based on 20 years of my current total monthly living expenses.
Zero debt.
Homes paid off.........very important.
Um no Dave no it doesn't right now. No grocery store, no pizza place is going to pay you more than unemployment is paying right now. Unemployment is paying me 1100 a week with the 600 dollar enhancement. "Spiritually" it sits better with me not working for peanuts in the middle of a pandemic while I am temporarily furloughed.
candirockstar135 if you don’t mind me asking; how much after taxes were you making a month before unemployment?
I thought for about 2 seconds to check out delivering or groceries but I would rather let those who need it more than me and I will wait on my first unemployment check in my 53 years.
Yeah, he's not taking the pandemic into account. Also depending on what his career is, he can use that time to develop his skills in his area of expertise.

Is that money actually getting to your account tho? I heard a lot of stories that people calling 50+ times a day without reaching a human being on the phone.
I would rather work too in a normal situation. But he’s risking getting sick and his family sick by working in grocery stores so unemployment seems to be the way to go.

Dave, unemployment is paying people more. Also, why risk getting paid less to catch coronavirus? If you need to move around, go walk. This is bad advice.

Benita And when the unemployment stops, then what...? It’s better to have a job than to wait and have to compete with 16 million other people to get back in the job market.
Unemployment is welfare. It might be fun in the short term but it will destroy you long term.
@@DebraJohnson It's not going to stop until unemployment is much lower. Without giving people money the economy collapses beyond your wildest imagination. Btw, I'm not unemployed, but anyone who thinks the extra $600 isn't getting extended past July 31st is living in lala land.

@@MookieGAZ 600 per week is pretax keep in mind. but yeah, it's pretty good money while unemployed
@@xqiu5627 ahhh, ok, thank you.
Dave's just a little off on these responses. Most people calling in will get either same or a pay raise taking unemployment. As he always says you are not factoring everything which is risking your life to go stock shelves versus stay home and healthy. This isn't long term only a few months take the unemployment and then back to work..stay safe out there.
Exactly! This guy is furloughed not laid off, which means he has his old job waiting for him when this is all over. Collect the unemployment and if you really can’t stand being at home, go volunteer at a food bank.
I agree that collecting unemployment is probably the beat course. However I think the time line is off and it will probably take to the end of the year until it’s even remotely safe to start letting people go back to work and then 2+ years for any meaningful recovery to occur. The Fed is going to need to print more money just to keep unemployment afloat while less worker are adding to its coffers and that will open an even worse can if not manage better than it currently is.
Someone whose net worth is 55 million, would rather work for minimum wage during a furlough than take unemployment? what?
He would never take that advice. Something pretty sick about someone who never has to work again advising people to work multiple low wage jobs in the middle of a pandemic.
@tahoemist98 But here you are listening to him...
Right what kind of logic is this advice?? Work minimum wage jobs, put yourself & family at risk. Stay safe at home & make more money with unemployment until it blows over? How is this even a question?
@@candirockstar135 Very insightful comment. Totally agree. Just shows how out of touch Ramsey is. Always wonder does his 'personalities' and team agree with him or are they just trying to keep their jobs?

“Deliver pizzas” is the answer to everything.
No pizza places by me are hiring delivery workers at this time. They’ve already maxed out.
Are you joking. No they are not ever 'maxed out' if the business is there, the pizza places will make room to expand. Uber eats up pizza deliveries are booming now
This fool and his minions always pivot to delivering pizzas
Many places will hire you, but everyone gets part time hours AND you have to be available for every day and time during the week and then each week they change your schedule and give you 15 hours. So unless you can find 2 or 3 driver jobs and somehow coordinate schedules with 2 or more employers who expect you to be available Sunday through Saturday, day or night shifts, and miraculously work out an agreeable schedule with each one it isn’t possible.
@@ercokatty if you just lost your job I'm sure you have plenty of time for various schedules
Alex Campili Most places don’t work with you on that. They can easily replace you. I only work part time and can go a month without pay because I have planned well. Many others cannot.

Go for the unemployment benefits right now while this extra money is being given now. Because this could stop in the near future.
Anthony Kence Bad idea. It’s not free money. Unemployment should be given to folks who work part time and are looking for full time work. It shouldn’t be given to someone who sits around eating Doritos all day. This stipend should incentivize working.
This either or idea of working versus collecting unemployment destroys a persons desire to work. Work is rewarding in and of itself.
@@MHiggins normally I agree but people who cannot work because of this current situation have to survive too. I didn't know you could get unemployment while working part time.
mac1bc Unfortunately the laws are messed up. You can’t work part time or they will cut your benefits or reduce them dramatically. I am saying that the laws should be changed to allow people to go out and pick up part time projects or work in between fulltime jobs.
@@MicheleNichols2 that's exactly what I think will happen. But it at least may prevent people from leaving their homes more.
@@MHiggins The idea of giving out a flat rate of $600/week is ridiculous. For me it's an overall pay cut. For so many others it's a pay raise. "Here's $30,000+ whatever you can receive from unemployment to do absolutely nothing".....but I'll take it.
What is she even talking about? Right now it’s either work and make an income, or don’t work and make unemployment benefits until this pandemic blows over. There’s no 25 to 30 options.
Yeah im like where are these 25 to 30 options coming from that sounds utterly ridiculous
I think that she is referring to all the various jobs available.
There are many, many options for people who don't want to collect unemployment. She's talking about making a list of everything. All the companies that are hiring right now, all the skills that he has that he might be able to sell to others, all the government assistance that is available. If you think your choices are work or don't work you are thinking on the wrong scale. There are many variables and choices inside both of those ideas.
Heather Brenner I don’t think that’s it at all. The guy on the phone directly asks if he should take unemployment and wait it out, or look into getting a job. Dave says if it makes sense to get a job then go ahead. She comes up with something out of left field and then doesn’t really describe in detail what she means. Trading skills for money is called a job. Government assistance is welfare of some sort.

I am a big fan of Dave and I am blessed to still have my job. When it comes down to this pandemic I personally believe his advice has not been the best. This pandemic situation has been a mess, Dave bring up what he did when he was broke does not fit right now. Humbling working in pizza delivery. That’s just ridiculous... the next up mentally okay... this is simply upsetting to hear the advice Dave is giving right now.
Throughout this crisis, Dave has struggled to accept that this is not just your regular flu season. His advice on a variety of topics around this crisis has consistently reflected that disconnect. Before all this, i think i had unconsciously gotten into the habit of taking his advice as gospel truth. Needless to say, I'm alot more circumspect in how i approach his advice now, which should have been the case all along.
Ellen Carter I completely agree. I could not have said that any better, the disconnect has truly risen. This is not a regular flu season, this is a serious problem, millions are losing their jobs. I myself am changing the way I will approaching his advice.
Just read an article - a woman had cable man come to house to set up cable. He had to come inside...well 4 days later the cable place stated he had it - COVID -19. The husband heard him outside coughing. One lady caught it with grocery delivery. Please be careful.

With the current extra $600 per week above unemployment just make sure you don’t take a job that pays less than unemployment plus the extra. This extra money is only for a short time. Take advantage of it while you can.
While I understand the concern about the national debt that ship is so far over the horizon it’s not coming back. One person taking a job that pays $12 per hour at Target versus taking unemployment with a gov’t extra of $15 per hour plus whatever their state pays them is a more financially prudent decision than taking a job that moves them down the job ladder. Whatever they decide to do the bill has passed and the national debt is being increased. Protect themselves and their family legally and take the most financially prudent move.

True, I live in Canada and everyone getting laid off receives 2k a month I would gladly take that if I got laid off than go work at a grocery store for less than 2k a month and be at higher risk of getting the virus
I usually love Dave and believe his advice is sound when it comes to getting out of debt in a regular economy. I also believe there is no stigma in receiving unemployment this is not welfare and is meant to bridge a person between two jobs. He should not be encouraging furloughed employees eligible for benefits to go put themselves in high risk positions because (unemployment is for wimps). They will get their jobs back when the time is right and they need to abide by stay at home orders if their state has issued them. These are not the normal situations of people who are constantly fired constantly not working trying to get out of debt with no drive to work. New territory needs new advice.
This is stupid. Activity is not good when it means putting yourself at risk of getting and spreading the virus to your family. The fact that he's still broadcasting his show from a studio instead of his home is telling of the type of person that he is.
Fear mongering weakling

Could someone please tell Dave that most retail and pizza joints will hire you, but most will only hire you part time to avoid paying benefits to their employees. Also, when you read most job ads these establishments also require you to be available all days and all shifts, and then each week they will change your schedule so you can’t even coordinate with a second job. My sister-in-law worked for Target, and was required to be available practically 24/7. One week she would get 30 hours, and the second week she might only get 15. Sometimes she would work until 11 pm, and then have to be back at 6 am. Then she wouldn’t work for days. She could never make plans, or even appointments. If she asked for a day off they would deny it, and then only have her on that day and one other for the entire week.

Hi Veronica, in these times we all have to pivot and come up with creative ways to earn a income. We find that online jobs or online business are the way to go and on our channel we talk about this a lot. :)
We never said starting an online business is easy, with everything one has to put in work to get the result they desire.
We are not here to tell anyone what you do, we can only talk about what we know and if a person is at home right now clueless of what to do then sure online business is certainly an option, if not then that's cool too.

Anyone please correct me if I’m wrong as, although I spent some intermittent time on UI and Extended UI during the recession, it’s been some time.
If I remember correctly, when you cannot find work and you have to accept work for less than you’ve, typically, earned, as that should be temporary employment, if you happen to be laid off again, you will, obviously, receive far less than you would’ve, had you collected from your regular job, which had been paying more. Yes, you might be doing the right thing and working any job that will have you but, from what I recall, I can be a rabbit hole, in and of itself. You can end up accepting lesser and lesser jobs, leading to lesser and lesser UI, should you need to do so. Sure, you can land something more appropriate at some point. But, if this thing effects the economy worse than the recession did, and we still don’t know, you can be in quite a rabbit hole where, if you worked a pizza delivery job for at least 6 months, any new jobs you apply for sometimes consider, for instance, that your career path was pizza delivery, instead of being an engineer, even if that was what you were formerly doing before the economy tanked.
So, it is noble and maybe Christian to take any job, rather than collect. But, it seems you must be aware that whatever that new job is and however little it pays, is the new you...
The government haphazardly allowed unemployment during this to pay more than most jobs people would have anyway. Unfortunately, we have been incentivized to stay unemployed while the extra pay is out there. The PPP loans may help with this as business owners will have to try to hire people back.
Take the unemployment insurance because you can get an extension if you go back to school that pays $8k
Dead god, thankyou for blessing me and my family with a steady career in the military, no financial worries thanks to Dave Ramsey, and I pray for yall that are struggling losing your jobs and losing people.
Thank you Sir for offering these fantastic sessions for us online.
Actually, I'd take the unemployment with the extra $600 the feds are kicking in. In Texas, most people taking unemployment get around $1,100 weekly. Take that until you get re-hired. It's a no brainer.
Being active is definitely the right answer in this and every situation

I'm out doing food deliveries. At least they didnt shut everything down I would have gone crazy if it was a full lockdown and we had to stay at home since March
I thought Suze Orman was crazy for saying that we need to save between 8-12 months of living expenses first. I think if everyone listened to Suze's advice then most of the country wouldn't be panicking about money right now.
Might be best to take the unemployment, especially with the Feds backing you up potentially another $600. You don't have to work for somebody else just to have activity. Maybe start an online business, clean out your garage, organize your house, do some yard work, and spend some time with your family.
I just received my unemployment benefits debit card and I got it all set up and my phones are on the card I sent my pin and when I went to make a withdrawal it says incorrect pin what could be the problem that would cause that because I know I put in the correct pin number
Their not giving person help at this time and then the call ends. Cant get anyone on the card end either. Too busy
I've never been on unemployment, I'm an earner. So this is all new to me and I agree about the government wanting people dependent on them to live. Especially regarding the Democrats.
Lone Ranger yeah well it’s our $$$ not the government’s plus most ppl aren’t working right now so your comment is irrelevant. You sound as out of touch as the looney celebs RUclips keeps trying to shove down our throats.
Lone Ranger yeah well taxes are a scam too so we may as well benefit from it but you missed my point entirely. You’re acting like these ppl don’t want to work fact is most of us in this comment section do but due to the COVID-19 China virus we can’t. Working is not essential unless you’re essential personnel therefore we’re taking back the $$$ the government took from our paychecks for years. Hopefully we’ll all be back to work in 2 months time. Side note do you not realize we’re in quarantine???
Lone Ranger the guy was stating that his pin didn’t work & you said, “That’s what happens when you advocate for government programs.” Then you went on about self-reliance & blah blah yada yada did you not??? I’m simply pointing out that your comment is irrelevant at this time. I also said that UI is our $$$ that they take from our paychecks. What point of yours did I miss??? I’ve read your comment several times now you can’t deny what you said. This is a crisis, a government shut down caused by a virus China started & refused to contain because their leaders are greedy, selfish nitwits & now we’re all paying the price being forced to stay at home & hope we don’t default while you sit on your high horse about advocating for government programs. YOUR words not mine. Read your comment.
I had an opportunity at Fed ex but the contractor payed a set amount each day so there was no chance at overtime so that is a factor in decisions also...at least it was for me
I understand the spirit of what Dave is saying, but particular circumstances may vary
I see people saying collect unemployment and develop a skill from home but like what skill? what are you guys talking about just curious I have my laptop here and would love to know your ideas
With some of these calls, it seems like Dave is a little out of touch with reality. Unemployment is going to be paying him more, but most importantly it is SAFER. Stay safe everyone.
Hello Dave I am unemployed and I will be homeless on the 20th any ideas

@Symon Mailhot i mean in my early 20s what did you expect me to to when i lived at.home.with mom
@Symon Mailhot any my moms boyfriend pulled a gun on me and told me i had to go so im going
Thanks for this one.
Good advice 👍
I don’t want to go back to work just to be working. I want to back to a career not a job.
Am I wrong for feeling this way?
A job is like someone you plan on marrying. You’re not just going to pick just anyone to marry it must be the “right” person. You have to have the same attitude when it comes to selecting a job if you don’t you’ll end up regretting it in both instances.
Beggers can't be choosers
IDWIE Typical response. I’m not begging and I’m not going to settle either. Anything worth having is worth waiting for.
I make $11.00 per a hour from my furloughed job, but $20.75 on unemployment insurance benefits 🙃
The unemployment sites in many states to sign up are down :( and the call centers are exhausted
If I was you I would not count on coming back to the job so start looking.
Interesting the caller just got a job at enterprise. I have worked there for two years. I got layed off a few weeks ago and just got a call about a job I applied to before this all started.
Why is enterprise laying people off..? My local enterprises are all open here in PA where all non essential businesses are ordered closed.
@@wantsanewvehicle I worked at a western Maryland enterprise (still a WV region though) and they wanted to close all the small branches for the time being. They kept the big branches in the big cities open and closed the small ones to save money. Legally we we allowed to stay open but corporate closed our branch.
@@Idoubbleyou Ah I see. I live in Rural PA, the closest one to me is in a town about the same size as my town, and I wouldn't call it busy. It's still open (just called today). The next closest one is still open as well. I do not know if the other small ones are or not. I know for sure the big ones are still open.
@@wantsanewvehicle Yea that probably also depends on the region. I would guess that our region thought best to close the small branches but that must not have been unanimous for all regions.
I've never seen her before, I guess this was one of her options. I'm not a fan of all of these Ramsey personality.
HopSonatra Productions these Ramsey personalities are nothing more than high paid yes men of Dave’s. They sit there repeat everything he says and nod their heads in perfect rhythm of everything he says.
@@robertjackson1740 I could see that Mr. Jackson. Maybe that's why I can't seem to connect with them.
Not going to work during this if I don't have to...
Great a bunch of low wage service sector jobs are available!
I’ve known people who filed for unemployment and they didn’t even get $600. A couple of people haven’t got a check and filed weeks ago. So unemployment is not what they said it is.
