In this context 'Trump proofing' means doing exactly what Trump wants, to avoid future criticism from him. He managed to get NATO member to increase their defence budgets to agreed levels, without even asking, and he's not even president yet. That's REAL power. The Chinese Defense Ministry stated on Friday that the joint exercises with Russia currently ongoing in southern China are meant to boost the ties between the two countries and expand their ability to counter threats.
The ministry published a statement on its WeChat official account, outlining that the current exercises will last until the middle of July and will be aimed at "jointly countering maritime security threats and maintaining global and regional peace and stability."

Please, will someone explain to me how we in the US can expect a possible trump administration to hold China accountable, when China is in alignment with Russia, and trump is clearly aligned with Putin/Russia? Trump is not aligned with Putin. Trump was the only US President since Clinton in which Russia has not invaded one of its neighbors.
The source of the claim that Trump was "colluding" with Putin was a Clinton campaign dirty trick from 2016 in which Hillary's campaign paid a former British spy to generate a bunch of BS accusations that Trump was "colluding" with Putin. It was investigated exhaustively for 2 years until even the diehards had to admit they'd found no evidence of any such thing.
