Rest in Peace Kirstie Alley
I'm sure she's still spewing her hateful rhetoric in the bowels of hell.
She was sooo funny.
Cheers had such great characters……including hers.
@@secondbest2877I remember back when M*A*S*H was on after the 10pm news, followed by The Odd Couple. A few years later a rival station started playing Cheers after their 10pm news. I was a M*A*S*H fan and my best friend Ron was a Cheers fan. We'd argue over which was better. Both were incredible shows. Cheers had such an eclectic group of characters. From Norm to Cliff, Woody to Carla, Frasier and Diane, and of course Sam Malone and later Rebecca Howe. Coach was such a caring and offbeat guy, and Woody took that role and gave Coach "way" a great continuing story. Like M*A*S*H Cheers had some of their actors leave to move on, or in Coach's character sadly he passed away, and like M*A*S*H they never missed a beat and they kept on top. I still have M*A*S*H as my all-time favorite TV show, but Cheers is close behind.
Couldn't Possibly replace Diane, impossible ? Shazam... Kirstie, Rebecca, as Good if not slightly Better ?.
I'm watching repeats now....Iconic casting throughout time🤗
RIP Kirstie😍 you were an unbelievable talent beyond Cheers.
She was thoughtful and funny. I miss seeing her on X (Twitter). She would engage with anybody.
Norm enters- "It's a dog eat dog world out there and I'm wearing Milk-Bone underwear"
Ted was so right about Kirstie being able to turn on the crazy car wreck meltdown scenes.
While Shelly did her part well, I hated the character so much, I cannot rewatch the shows where she is on. But Kirsties character is easy on the ears to receive. She was not abusive and mind F'ing everyone. Which made her a loving character to enjoy being bonkers.
In the beginning, the show never would have gotten off the ground without SHELLEY LONG!!!
Yep show had a really different feel with out Shelly.
@arnoldwilliams9204 It never would have gotten off the ground without Ted Danson either. In fact all of the cast's chemistry made the show a hit. Great casting is essential. No show is a success because of just one person.
Even a show built around an established star: Roseanne, Home Improvement etc. still needs the rest of the cast to work well together with great actors otherwise the show will fall flat on its face. Look at the Friends spin off, Joey. Very average cast with zero chemistry and below average scripts. So, it tanked.
Shelley Long needed the cast and crew as much as they needed her. The show wasn't a success because of HER. This is proved by the fact the ratings went UP after Kirstie Alley joined.
Joey, interesting the guy that played Howard in big bang theory played almost identical character as Joey's nephews friend/foe from college, Joey wasn't a bad shoe, it wasn't friends and it was up against American Idle, survivor, and everybody hates Chris plus Smallville impossible slot, that friends was winning
It was good of George to mention Bebe Neuwirth. The host just glossed over her for some reason.
He forgot, it's as simple as that. We all do it and it's not like he doesn't have anything else to think about and comcentrate on. All that really matters is that one of them mentioned her. 🙂
Most memorable line from the show... On the day Woody finds out that Frasier was a Rhodes Scholar, Woody says, "Wow... Dr. Crane, I didn't know you were a roads scholar. Answer me this, why is the stuff they fill pot holes with darker than the rest of the road."
The second most memorable line is the song that Coach came up with, to help Sam remember where Albania is, and what Albania is known for.
@@oaktree1628I’ve always remember it borders on the Adriatic because of it!
@@Wukles I’ve always remembered that its chief export is chrome ⛰️
When Norn gets a call from Vera and starts to leave in a panic. Everyone asks what's wrong, and he says there's 3 feet of water in their basement.
Everyone says "that's horrible", and he says "that's like a foot more than usual".
From the top of my head :
"Gee, Coach....so you're learning Spanish?"
"Yeah...just enough to get by., you know..."How tall is your dentist?......Is that really your sister?...."
I love that Ted mentioned the Coach's daughter episode, it has one of my all time favorite lines: "you don't get me & you don't get Pennsylvania, you just get more obnoxious!"
IMO, its the GOAT show. Season 1 is by far the best. The Diane years were the best, specifically the Coach years (seasons 1-3)
Favorite episode, "The Endless Slumper", favorite line at a funeral , "let's hang him in effigy!" then Coach says "forget that, let's hang him right here in Boston!" most heartbreaking line "have a good life"
worst episode ""It's a Mad, Mad, Mad Bar"
underrated episode ""The Spy Who Came In for a Cold One""
Bebe was a force on the show. I couldn't believe how funny Lilith was.
One of the best sitcoms of my life. Since my childhood, till the end.
Saw George Wendt in an episode of "Hot in Cleveland" where he played an Amish character dating one of the stars, and when they walked into a bar everyone yelled "YODER!"
I always meant to watch Cheers because of my eternal love of Kirstie Alley. I finally ended up watching it during the first lockdown and it very quickly became my all-time favourite sitcom. Good shows are timeless, and Cheers will live on forever. ❤I can't thank the creators and the cast enough for bringing so much joy and warmth episode after episode. It's so easy to feel like part of the Cheers family, even from the comfort of my own home. I love you, Cheers.
Where’s the ladies?
It definitely was must-see tv back then. I still watch reruns pretty much every evening on cable tv
I liked the episodes where Diane. And Coach were in them!
One of the best TV-shows ever.
My fave all time line was from Norm.
He walks in, Everyone shouts "NORM!"
Sam says, "What you up to, Norm?"
Norm replies, "My ideal weight if I was 8 feet tall."
😆👍
My favourite Cheers exchange:
Norm: give me a beer Woody and make sure you stop me after one.
Woody: you sure Mr Peterson?
Norm: ah, make it 130
Just brilliant writing.
I like this one (unless I dreamt it)......
Woody : "What do you say to a nice cold beer, Mr Peterson?
Norm : "I'd say what's a nice beer like you doing in a face like this?"
One of my favorites when Norm entered, "Hey, Norm what's up?
Norm "My nipples, it's freezing out there"
I loved this...but it's not so much a reunion as a couple of guys from the show hangin' out. Where are Rhea, Woody, Shelley (aka "Shirley"😆), or even Paul?!?
Or Kelsey, too?
Paul. Loved that character. Almost tubier than Norm 😂
I remember at school lunch we all got to be a character from cheers and one guy was Paul and I'm like who's that he's in every episode hanging out at the bar like norm, just their.
they weren't offered enough money ! 😂
Shelley really was amazing.
Crazy to think the entire cast are now all older than Coach. Even Woody. 😮
Never realized Coach was only 61 when he died
He's the one I really like on cheers rest easy coach
@@andymathis6576 interesting. If you think about it, he's kinda the only character who is written as 100% likeable, except for maybe Norm? To a lesser extent Woody (who was his replacement after all.)
@@mattj65816norm spends all his time at bar drinking not paying his tab not seeing his wife and not working.
He's great
@@wrldchamps04he looked 71 at the start of the show.
I still laugh at episodes even if I have seen it many times before.
I can’t believe some shows last over a decade; the actors actually spend that much of their lives on them, and now you can watch all the episodes in about a week, without commercials.
Remiss not mentioning one of the most recognizable opening credit theme songs in sitcom history by Gary Portnoy.
Cheers was amazing especially the Shelly Long seasons.
Yes. And especially the Kirstie Alley ones.
I do think the Diane seasons were the best, but the on again off again relationship between her and Sam was starting to get old. The change to Rebecca, gave the show a fresh look that extended it's life.
Can't argue with that.@@TimCarter
@@TimCarter Maybe I need to rewatch. But I just remember it being dated and less polished, and she also seemed genuinely annoying. Whereas Rebecca was likeable and hilarious, and her era had Woody, a more developed Frasier and Robin.
Wasn't a fan of Shelley Long. Show was better with Kirsty
I'm surprised that they didn't mention Grant Tinker who, as head of NBC, kept the show on the air despite it's horrible first-season ratings. Tinker and the 9 Emmy nominations in May of 1983 saved the show.
It helped nbc was in last place, and nothing was working, so low rated and award winning trumps low rated and no awards, post ateam, the ratings had improved or it been done
@@petewillson205back then, CBS and ABC were shows to watch good shows and NBC was struggling
@@lexkanyima2195 yep abc was powerhouse with Happy Days and 3s company, cbs was just dominating, nbc had nothing, then around 84, ateam led to knight ride,r highway to heaven, r Cosbyand family ties and nbc was #1 on most nights
@@petewillson205 which it ushering a new era for sitcoms
It sucks that not all of them could be there
This is one of my favorite shows ever, if not my favorite. It was so well written, acted, and all the other things (set design, etc.). I liked that they didn't write down to the audience. I learned a lot as a child watching this because the context would explain a word I didn't know. Shows like this bring us up.
I bought the complete box set on DVD a few years ago and I have binge-watched every episode three times a year. My favourite character was Coach. But they were all great.
The song.. that is one of the things you will never forget about this show... just brings a feeling to you.
The three big ones were Cheers, Frasier and Golden Girls. All amazing!
I fall asleep listening to cheers everynight
Cliff is larger than Norm.
Yes. Cliff is fatter than norm
My favorite sitcom. I own every season. Great writers and cast.
I hate that they cut some of the original music like monster mash
@@jerseyjoe1677 Hey! That ain't funky town? I have box set and they changed Monster Mash to Vampire Twist and I Fought the Law was changed to Working in the Hot Summer Sun or something like that. Funny episodes though. I always liked the Bar Wars episodes with Gary's Olde Town bar. Also there were two Gary's.
@captainscentsible3938 Satan and Buster 🤣 I think the episodes got better in the later seasons. Funny episode!
I just started watching Cheers recently and am obsessed! ❤
One of the BEST shows!
I watched every show when it was on TV many years ago. And I have watched every show many times. I have all 11 seasons on DVD.
My dad was a B&F regular (likely not the guys they saw at the bar but nonetheless), and told me the story that him and his buddy were offered two VIP tickets to a pilot taping of a TV show about the bar from the bartender. They both looked at each other....A TV show?...About this place? We'll pass. That show was Cheers.
I went to that original bar 25 years ago being so excited I was gonna see the real cheers bar. Of course I was alittle disappointed that it was nothing like it except the entrance and a replica tiny cheers room which was packed. I’m sure the regulars didn’t like that show since it’s been very busy ever since and they can’t get a seat now lol
This is like Paul and Ringo got together for a song and they called it a Beatles reunion.
Favorite Cheers episode, yeesh! The Thanksgiving food fight episode was of course a classic. The one where Sam & Diane imagine themselves as an old married couple in the home they were going to buy and elderly Cliffy going in and out of consciousness and occasionally blurting, "women!", the one where Coach is telling a woman (paraphrasing from memory here) "I'm not a rich man, I'm not a tall man, I'm not a milk man, I'm not a ginger bread man", and of course Woody's "Kelly Kelly Kelly Kelly" song for Kelly's birthday.
Why no Shelly Long, Rhea Perlman, Kelsey Grammer, Woody Harrelson, Bebe Neuwirth, Paul WIlson or even Dan Hedaya, Jackie Swanson, Anthony Cistaro ????? Could have/Should have had a lot more of the actors who were a part of making this show what it was, even if their part was only a smaller bit of the composite whole, together they all made it what we saw. For that matter, more behind the scenes crew people and writers, directors, etc. could have been involved with this 'reunion'
they did one in 2016 its on you tube, shelly and rhea and them are all there.
Yes, and they should have had it on the old set. With brand new scripts. And make new episodes. Etc....
Never been in the film business, but as a composer and solo piano performer I can see how the writers of the script (score) and the performers (musician) could be similar. A great moving score in music performed by great emotional musicians in a sharing of respect and honor for each other; and a great moving script performed by actors with depth and the sharing of respect and honor together.
Cheers season three is my favorite, because I was born during it.
I discovered the show this year, have soon watched all episodes 😍🤩 Didn't watch it when I was young. I'm Swedish
Good camera work. Mics should have been pinned to their shirts for better audio pick ups. But 100% better than any audience member camera phone recording. 🙄 And it is entirely possible the reason the audience was respectful while the people on stage were talking, is because we could not hear all the rudeness that normally goes on during these things from the audience. It is a shame only 3 cast members were up there. While good guys no argument, a full ensemble (or at least everyone alive)would have been greatly appreciated.
WOW,..John is now bigger than Geroge!
I just hate seeing norm and cliff letting them selves go with that weight. Sam seems so much healthier cause he keeps any weight off
Yes, I thought the same.
How is your weight?
I really like cheers one of my favorite sitcoms. Some 40+ years ago I met woody harrelson at the pool area when I was working at a hotel here in Sacramento. At that time he was touring with his band in northern California. I got his autograph and he wrote on a concert ad that had his picture "Don cheers woody" I just wished I could have taken a picture with him too.
George Wendt has recovered well 🙏
I was a fan as a child and still love it and the theme song.
Glad to see most of the original cast but what about Rhea, Woody, Shelley, Bebe, and Kelsey? Together, they all made the show the success that it became and still is.
Reply
Kelsey is supposed to reboot Frasier but uncertain when
thats what im saying man, even some of the more bit players/guest stars like Dan Hedaya, Paul Wilson, etc. Jackie Swanson, Anthony Cistaro could have been brought in or asked to take part in this
I guarantee you they were all invited, but for whatever reason, chose not to come. Could be scheduling issues or other things keeping them from going. Plus they do a lot of these, but it's usually the same people. John, George, Ted and the creators. I too would like to see others show up.
The women of the show refused to go to this reunion
would certainly be great before too many people are gone forever@@4seeableTV
Coach was one of my favorites. It was very sad that he died at such a young age. He was 59 years old, but he looked like he was in his 70s because of his heart condition. I'm on season 4, episode 9, and I can't tell you how much I love the show. I do miss Coach, but Woody is great too.
I really hope they bring the Cheers cast back in Frasier's reboot. Anything if it means getting this group back together.
Honestly, I doubt it will happen.
It's Kelsey's show and they never did full-cast reunions to my knowledge on Frasier during that original series. I think they got most of them in one episode but that was it.
I have my doubts this version of Frasier will last beyond 1 or 2 seasons.
It will NEVER be the same without the other Frasier cast members and John Mahoney/Martin Crane died 5 years ago. He was at least as integral to the success of the original Frasier series as David Hyde-Pierce was. You need that character interplay, the family relationships. I don't know that they'll get that with Frasier's grown son in the new series!
I may be wrong but I think the new Frasier will go down as well as the Night Court sequel series has so far! It's coasting on inertia and that's it. The little I've watched of Nu-Court has convinced me that it has neither the spark or humor of the original show. What I saw was frankly terrible TV. It's at best a bland series.
@@AvengerII Yes, the first episodes of the new Frasier were not very good. But I watched until the seventh episode and I can say that starting from episodes 4-5 the series becomes much better and funnier. Episode 7 made me feel like Frasier 2003
@@DNZKH Same for me. I didn't like the first couple of episodes but the show grew on me. Glen & Les Charles are brilliant writers.
I teared up when I saw the name of the bar they go to.
No female cast member and no Kelsey Grammar :(
Judging by their physiques Cliff and Norm have been sitting on their bar stools drinking beer for the last 40 years.
Please do other 80s sitcom reunions. Three’s Company, Night Court, etc. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
If you want to do a reunion for both of those shows, you better get an Ouija board.
@@toddanthony6664 Why did you say that? It’s the same thing for Cheers. Sure some of the cast members already passed. But they still have surviving cast members and are able to do a reunion show. 🧐🧐🧐🧐
There's a pretty good reunion of the major players from Three's Company on RUclips.
Most of the cast of Night Court passed away. Only John Larroquette, Richard Moll and Marsha Warfield is still alive.
@@DarthSideous63Richard Moll is now gone.
Just started my rewatch last night. The first season is so amazing and has such a charm. I wish they could go back to the negative and pull a 16:9 version like they did with The Wire.
Jim Burrows says "Today there are five networks..." Really? What a tone-deaf analysis. How can he not see the VASTLY DIFFERENT landscape of television and the many, many, new channels with sitcoms that viewers watch? What a strange statement.
Here’s what’s really strange… you confusing television networks with channels. Burrows has been in television for 50 some odd years and Karen here freaks out because he briefly mentions something she clearly doesn’t understand. I’m guessing Karen’s involvement with network television is VASTLY DIFFERENT than Jim Burrows. 😂😂 Dolt.
Let's not forget the excellent theme tune. That's what got me hooked originally back in the late 80's. I was young, but now watching all the episodes from scratch. Brilliant show. One of the best.
im watching cheers for the very first time and im on season 2 and its already making it too my top 5 favorite sitcoms of all time
Those writes that were on TAXI, wrote some of most laugh out loud funny stuff I have ever watched. Then Cheer's! Jesus!
Host is BRUTAL.
Whole cast was amazing. Many have mentioned Shelley Long. Yeah, she was great.
Wheres Woody Harrelson, Rhea Pearlman, Shelly Long and Kelsey Grammer .....
Star Trek Deep Space Nine honored the Norm character with Morn.
My favourite part of the entire series is when Fredrick Crane went into the bar with his dad and said his very first word: "Norm".
How can there be a reunion without Woody?
Or Shelley and Rhea?
Where are Kelsey Grammer and Rhea Perlman?
I'd really like an 8 episode single season catch up
I never knew George met Woody at a grocery store.
Not much of a "reunion" when half the cast is not there.
Wow Cliff looks bigger than Norm now
Cheers really started becoming popular in 84 85 season When Cosby came out? After that, It just continued to go up until it was number one show. Even at the very end, after 11 seasons, it was still a very popular show that probably could have gone on another one if they wanted.
Meanwhile, cartoon TV shows, due to cast aging not being visibly obvious, have now lasted for over thirty years.
@@ryanjacobson2508basically the Simpsons. That show is still great. I had stopped watching for years but then I got with someone who watched it religiously. So I got back into it. And then disney released all the past seasons so we started at the beginning to watch all.
Back then NBC was finding their roles.
When you started I was 25, my Mom, 51, we became instant fans. I still am and have turned my 27 & 23 year old daughter's on to Cheers, too. Love to you all. 💖
Honestly, we never watched S & S, didn't appeal.
S & S?
Since Ratzenberg played the role of a know it all. Was there not an episode where he plays on Jeopardy?
Yes, he knew every question, till the final one.😂
Where was Woody, Diane, Carla and Frasier???
its been so long they dont careanymore
Rip Coach, Rebecca and Eddie LeBec.
I have purchased a few TV shows through my VUDU account, only a few, one of them is Cheers. Great artistic works can be viewed over and over with new appreciation each time. When writing, acting (performing) lighting, filming, direction, audio, editing, all come together in total professional and artistic near perfection, the entire world knows and agrees it is art, craftsmanship, authoring, technical skill be presented in front of us.
I wish someone had yelled, "Sinatra!"
Agreed with John, the "literate," the vocabulary in this show, was above and beyond other classic American shows.
Some amazing comedy writers during this era...Too many great shows to mention... Love Cliff and Norm...Ted; meh Coach and Woody are right there with them...
Cliff and Norm got large
I watched then and I still watch it now brilliant 👏👏👏👏👏🏴
Love the Welsh flag here! I’m also from wales and honestly have never seen this program. I started 2 weeks ago at random looking for something to watch and I’m 20 episodes in already and wow, it’s right up my street.
The "will they or won't they" idea is an incredible legacy for Cheers
Yeah great choice for intro music, not like there was an obvious other choice...
I wish they would have got permission to use those songs like monster mash. If you’re familiar with the original episodes it just doesn’t work with the new music
Agreed. It's sad.
Where the f is woody
The greatest ever!
My favorite show as a young 20 something in the 80's.
Cast? 3 members.
❤Diane❤
I've been binging Cheers the last few months, on the last season now. Would have been great to have Carla on the panel as well. Would love to see the new Frasier show have Frasier walk back into Cheers and find Cliff and Norm still sitting there.
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your name.
😍
Hmm. No talk about the theme song. How it was originally longer then cut down.
It has a line that was controversial back then but is timely now:
_"and your husband wants to be a girl"_
Still stands up and better than any crap so called Sitcoms of today, well except for THE BIG BANG THEORY 😁👍🏻
Amazing show, forever timeless!!!
Overall enjoyed this, because I love the show, but why are the panel hosts for things like this always so lame?
Next time “Cheers” does a reunion, they need to include a tribute to Kirstie Alley.
Where is Woody, Shelley and Kelsey⁉️
I don't think young people are binging Cheers - it's a curiosity but the sequel "Frasier" has more pull for ppl who were not raised with this show
Cheers was hilarious. Norm was my favorite.
