    Just when I thought I couldn't like Ryan Reynolds more, he makes this. This movie is the most fun I've had watching something since Ready Player One. 10/10🌟 for me! Also, the more I think about this movie the more mind-bending thoughts I have. Like at what point exactly does an AI get so advanced before it can be considered "real"? It's just a question with no clear answer. Wait ... am I real? Oh god, existential crisis kicking in. 🤯

    • @chriswhinery925
      @chriswhinery925 2 года назад +1

      When is an AI real? When it seems real to you.
      For all you know, you could live in a simulation. Everyone around you could be fake. YOU could be fake. You think of everyone as real because they seem real to you.
      Even if we're not in a simulation, we'd all instead just be meat based biological robots programmed by billions of years of evolution to behave the way we behave. It's most likely that the feeling we have of free will is just a complexity based illusion and everything in the universe is completely deterministic. But we still think of everything as being real. Because it seems real.
      No reason to think AI will be any different to anything else. It will be real when it seems real to you.

    Great reaction! I found your channel a while ago and love your content and personality, cheers! I have done a bit of game programming so I'll try to answer some of your questions.
    1. The chase scene up the skyscraper. Developers often add cheats or codes to games while they are being made so that certain aspects of the game can be tested, skipped, experimented on, ect. For a released game to the public however I would be shocked if developers had that kind of control over the game world. Modifying the game like that while you are playing is quite unrealistic, but it does make for a really cool visual scene!
    2. Can you tell if your code was stolen? Depends, in this case Keys is literally working at the company so I doubt it would be hard for him to figure that out. If he is on any of the programming staff he could probably view much if not all of the code for the game if he wanted. From Millie's perspective it would probably be hard, if not impossible There are a lot of ways to do things with code so if all you see is the end result that tells you almost nothing about how that result was achieved. There could be small indicators, like some particular behavior in their AI that you have only seen in your AI, but it's also possible that someone saw what your AI did and tried to replicate it or came up with something similar. Really hard to prove if you can't actually look at the code, especially if the thief tried to hide it.
    3. How much does rebooting the server affect the game? In most games rebooting the server doesn't change much. It reverts the game back to some saved state which depends on the server and how often it's coded to save important information, so in order for Guy to 'remember' past experiences those experiences would have to be constantly saved, but in order for him to 'forget' they wouldn't be saved at all. Possible plot hole there, but games can be coded a lot of ways so technically still possible to forget and remember, I just don't really understand why it would work that way.
    Regardless of how realistic some of the plot lines are, this was one of the most refreshing movies I have seen in a while. They put a lot of thought into the movie and did a lot of research into the world of gaming, and it really paid off! 😊

    Without access to the source code, it would be difficult to tell if they used the original code or if they used portions of it or were simply inspired by the idea. Also, depending on the terms of the contract, Antwan would actually own the code so he could do with it as he pleases. But using the setup of the film, we'll presume he only purchased the distribution rights to the original product, chose not to distribute it, and stole the code. So, yes, one way of proving copyright theft is to find something in the game that identifies it as the original code. In this case, they visually represent that in the form of the original map. In reality, you would just find a routine that you can show in court replicates your code exactly. You don't even need to prove they stole the whole program. (Full disclosure: IANAL and software law is ridiculously young and underdeveloped in the US.)
    Tron (not Tron Legacy) is a timeless film that does a remarkably great job of visually representing the concepts of is going on inside the machines.

    27:13 Technically, it's the Avengers theme, not Cap's theme. True story - Free Guy was filming in Boston at the same time Chris Evans' show Defending Jacob was filming. After they got the OK from Disney to use Cap's shield, Ryan personally called up Chris to quickly film that cameo during Chris' time off.

    The short answer is no, there’s no way they could hide that they were using their engine/code, especially if the programmer guy had actually taken the programming job they offered him. And the tech support didn’t work anything like that at all either. Basically none of the technical stuff is remotely realistic or possible, but that’s ok, because that’s not the point of the movie. Just suspend your disbelief and enjoy. 😜

    • @TheRawrnstuff
      @TheRawrnstuff 2 года назад

      I disagree. I'd say _plenty_ of the technical stuff is _remotely_ realistic or possible. If the question is "could we replicate Free Guy to the letter in the real world", then the answer would be no, even if we accidentally stumbled into creating a true AGI.
      But there's a lot in this movie that's very solidly based on how things work.
      I'd put this in the same level of realism as Courtroom Dramas are to real life. Remotely realistic.

    • @RunningTogether
      @RunningTogether 2 года назад

      @@TheRawrnstuff Depending on what you mean, I think it’s clear you aren’t a programmer. That’s simply not how programming works at all. I’m not talking about whether an AI could exist or anything, just about how programming works. Nothing they say or do in terms of how they are handling technical matters is how it works in the real world.
      For example, there’s no point in putting on an avatar to confront someone in the game. They would just look through logs telling them if it was a real player (and if so, the name of the account to ban).
      The job the main programmer guy is doing makes no sense given his supposed skill set (he’s smart enough to program a true AI, but he’s working in some sort of random IT/ customer support role that is quite weird).
      And towards the end, there’s no need to attack the servers. They had already shut them down to reboot them; why not just shut them off again?
      Easy to do remotely, and they were planning on taking them down within the day anyway. Why even reboot at all? None of that made sense. Really not mad at the movie about it though, I still enjoyed it despite the lack of realism.

    • @TheRawrnstuff
      @TheRawrnstuff 2 года назад +1

      @@RunningTogether "That’s simply not how programming works at all."
      I wasn't talking about how "programming works". I was disagreeing with you on your "none of the technical stuff is remotely realistic or possible" -claim.
      But since you brought it up, they _tried_ to look into who Guy was, but they couldn't find him in the logs. They _couldn't_ ban him.

    • @RunningTogether
      @RunningTogether 2 года назад

      @@TheRawrnstuff Right, which would have instantly revealed him to be an AI. (A hacker would most likely take over some other player’s account , which would still show as a player, but if the hacker somehow seized control of an NPC (unlikely for a bunch of reasons), they would still see it as an AI and presumably just disable or remove that NPC. they would probably have tools to just remove characters in the game; if they couldn’t do that for AI, the hack would be handed off to programmers to investigate. Entering the game as avatars themselves would just be pointless. Chasing after a hacker in that way (if he somehow did hack the game) would just be fun for him, and would not be a way to eliminate him.
      For that matter, the female lead actually entering the game would also not be a way to gather any real evidence, and there would be no reason for their levels (areas they had made for their original game) to be in the game, and many reasons they’d have removed them.
      But you’re right, my language was overly broad in my first statement. I meant to say that the technical methods they were using weren’t at all realistic, which is true. You could say that having a technical world of that size and complexity is certainly possible, though graphics aren’t quite there yet, but given a small amount of suspension of disbelief for the movie, the look/feel of the world was reasonable.
      True AI is probably not realistic in the near future, but given that it will probably require some brilliant idea to create it that hasn’t been thought of yet, I certainly wouldn’t rule it out completely. Genius discoveries are basically never predictable. I would think it would be very unlikely that an AI would happen “by accident” though, which is at least implied here. If they were trying to make a true sentient AI, it might reach true “sentience” after some time as it learned, so that part could happen.
      At any rate, I apologize for my original hasty and overly broad language. I should have been more careful with my original explanation of what was not realistic.
      Have a great day! 👍

It is almost like we were made for each other." And that it would have hit her. Him just straight up telling her when he really loves her to go after someone else is not something men do. If he was toxic and knew it, sure, maybe he wanted her to be happy so he sent her to someone who could make her happy, but he was sweet. I love your reactions Angelina, especially because I feel like you actually draw my attention to things that I didn't consciously appreciate when I first watched myself, like camera angles and small details (like Guy's glasses). However, for some reason the way the movie carries on in the background whilst you talk gives me anxiety lol, and I don't really know why. It's like I'm scared you're gonna miss stuff (even though I realise it might just be something the editor does to make the background of the video look more interesting or whatever whilst you're talking).

    came here from your Legend of Vox Machina reviews... fun tie in - Utkarsh Ambudkar, who plays Mouser (Keys' friend & co-worker), played D&D in a series called Force Grey with Ashley Johnson (Pike) in a game run by Matt Mercer (Sylas Briarwood). He was also Aaron Burr in the original workshop of Hamilton.
    but I loved this movie and your reaction was so fun!

    So, I'm kind of a failure. failed out of college twice. no job, no life plan, borderline suicidal. I sit down to watch this movie with my family, expecting fun escapism and BAM, A girl from my year in high school shows up on screen, interacting with Ryan Reynolds! It's like the feeling of seeing happy successful peers on social media, and knowing you shouldn't compare people's best moments to your own whole life, but now the things you enjoy are reminding you too. good movie though

    No, you cannot reasonably see if someone yoinked your code by simply having a copy of the game downloaded. What is being referred to here is the game's "source code", which is a long list of commands that programmers manually wrote out, and it's what makes the application do what it does. However, the code that the programmers wrote, cannot be read by computers, computers only understand object level code (like binary, but even wackier). So as result, the human gibberish has to be translated (compiled) to computer gibberish in order for your computer to run the application/game. When you download a game, you're getting that compiled computer gibberish version of the source code, not the readable human gibberish version.
    It is possible to "decipher" compiled source code, but even with the most talented decompilers in the world, you'll only ever get a "functionally equivalent" version of the code, but it won't be anywhere near exact to what it was before it was compiled (so you wouldn't be able to prove plagiarism).

    Ryan reynolds texted Chris asking if he wanted to do a cameo, and miraculously he just happened to be in the neighborhood, so he showed up, and the whole thing was done in 10 minutes.

    Imagine if you asked a room full of people to think of a random number - and they all chose the same one.
    Now repeat that again, and again, and they KEEP choosing the same "random" number.
    That was the chilling way that they broached the idea that the world was in fact a computer simulation in the tv series (that you should watch!) called - "Doctor Who".
    Oh - err - spoilers. :)
    The episode was called "Extremis", from 2017.
    Doctor Who has been going 59 years, but honestly, you can jump in anywhere. Ok, 2005 is a good spot, when the series had a soft reboot.
