24:43 I like how Facade's confident, sinister smile becomes more strained and his eye begins to twitch as he goes below half health. It's little touches like this that give the game character.
Same with Genie. Changes color from red/purple to blue the more you hit him in the 2nd phase.

The final battle theme really makes the player think twice about finishing the fight, as if they do, they end up effectively committing genocide. And while Dethl and the nightmares are evil, they are against Link, as he’s the force of oblivion sent to their island. But BotW reveals that the wind fish dies anyways, which would mean that Koholint and its inhabitants are all deader than dead.

I really like how the Roc’s Feather is such a key item throughout the game.

@@hlaver yeah same though the only time I took it out was so I could use the bomb arrow, which I call the rocket launcher
Seriously! I find myself using it all the time, same thing with the Oracle games. It's so useful for getting around slighty faster and avoiding certain attacks and projectiles.
Roc's feather is used for jumping over a lot of things, like shockwaves, earthquakes, projectiles, but apparently it ain't powerful enough to soar over boulders on a crash course to links skull.
6:37 loved how after you put a bomb in front of it, the snake goes like "Nope. Not falling into that" XD
I totally forgot about that in their AI. Because otherwise you could spam bombs like you could in some of the other Zelda games where they eat bombs.

They literally do it every time you fail to bomb them, you don’t need to have a specific timestamp
I guess the reason you can't one cycle them with repeatedly using bombs in front of them is because they already be full.

@@milliboyd6413 The boss dialogues I've listed go along with the 5 stages of grief.
For denial, the Slime Eel assumes Link doesn't seem to be aware that the island is made up by a dream.
For anger, Facade explains the consequences that will take place once the Wind Fish awakens in a distressed tone.
For bargaining, both the bosses listed state that Link is also part of the dream, and he too will supposedly disappear along with the island when the Wind Fish wakes up.
For depression, the nightmares state that they would've continued to live if it weren't for Link and so they fight in a last resort to continue living the way they have been.
And finally, for acceptance, the nightmares state their world is going to disappear in a tone as if they were accepting their fate.
But thats just a theory, a GAME THEORY!

After seeing how great this game looks, I would love to see the devs take on remaking the Oracle games. Oracle of Seasons was my first full introduction to the Zelda series, so it has a special place in my heart.
OoT 3D and A Link Between Worlds were my first zelda games, and they introduced me to both the child, and downfall timelines respectively.

Gyorg was a joke in the original, a much better boss fight in the remake. Also yes, the Angler Fish is no longer the biggest joke when it comes to bosses in the Zelda franchise.

@@okagron honestly, the turtle head Rock was even worse. That thing barely even attacked in the original. Good thing they gave him a much-needed buff too.
Overall, the bosses are still way too easy.
Moldorm: Barely a chance of hitting you as long as you use the shield.
Genie: Just avoid the fireballs and that’s about it.
Blobs: Just attack an eye a million times, split the blobs using Pegasus Boots, attack the blobs, that’s it.
Angler: Just attack the angler fish.
Slime Eel: Just hookshot him when his mouth opens, then attack the pink part.
Facade: Just time when you place the bombs and make sure you run away.
Eagle: Just dodge the projectiles and attack when the eagle flies toward you.
Lava thing (forgot the name): Just stand in one one place and spam the magic fire wand.
Final Boss Phase 1: Just attack the blob with magic powder.
Phase 2: Just face him and attack the orbs, avoid the quadruple orbs.
Phase 3: Same strategy as Moldorm.
Phase 4: Use the Genie method, then dash into him as he throws his weapon.
Phase 5: Use the fire rod and attack him.
Phase 6: Jump over the swinging arms and attack his eye with the arrows when the eye opens.
Man, this game has a really sad ending disguised as a happy one. In most zeldas link is the perfect hero, but in this game his only motive is driven by the selfishness of getting home that he didn’t see the consequences, which was a whole island disappearing. Chances are he didn’t even make it home. He killed the friends he made, the girl he *presumably* liked, and all the good times he’s had on the island. He’d rather go with the small chance of returning to the home he once had rather then stay at the home he has now. In this game, Link is a monster.
I mean, if you take into account that the Wind Fish said that it was only a dream, everything on the island may not have existed in the first place.
Isaac Mitchell Link isn’t a monster, it’s more like the situation is morally ambiguous. Link wants to leave the island because Hyrule depends on his return (taken from my old instruction booklet) and the Nightmares’ influences will get stronger and eventually enveloped the world the longer the Wind Fish sleeps. In order to save the world, the island and it’s inhabitants were sacrificed. As Star Trek puts it: “The needs of the many outweighs the needs of the few.”
The Island doesn't exist in this world, it is in fact a dream of the Wind Fish and not the pleasant one either. It's infested with Nightmares which wreck havoc on the island and keep the Fish asleep forever. As it's said in the game's ending - it is the nature of dreams to end.
Link is basically in a coma having been struck with the lightning in the begining, that's how he ends up in a dream. He struggles to wake up and stay alive, learns he's in a dream and learns about the Wind Fish. He gets rid of the Nightmares and wakes The Wind Fish, thus ending the dream.
In the end Link awakes on what's left of his ship after the lightning strike and The Wind Fish is free to dream another world, maybe a happier one this time.

So a Tumblr post actually had a good point about what the bosses represent, they're all fears that can invoke nightmares (hell, the bosses themselves are called Nightmares):
Moldorm: fear of snakes
Genie: fear of clowns
Slime Eye + Facade: fear of being watched
Angler Fish + Slime Eel: fear of the deep ocean
Evil Eagle: fear of heights
Hot Head: Pyrophobia
Hard Hit Beetle: Insectophobia
Dethl: fear of the dark
Hey, If you're new to the game on the switch, here's a tip to beat the "Gohmas" in catfish's maw. when they shoot at you, use your shield to block it, and then hit them in the eye with your newfound hookshot to temporarily make them vulnerable to archery (bow and arrow) and sword attacks. But do be careful and swift when you do so.
Blaino and Evil Eagle will always be my favorites in this game.

I feel like the real reason the Nightmares really wanted to kill Link is that they are self aware that they all will die if Link wakes up the Wind Fish. I assume the minions that joined their army are aware as well. But still they are evil and would make the innocent villagers in the dream world live a nightmare, better to be erased from existence than living in pain.

Each dungeon boss represents a fear:
#1: fear of burgers
#2: fear of clowns
#3: fear of eyes
#4: fear of angler fishes
#5: fear of eels
#6: fear of faces
#7: fear of birds
#8: fear of fire
Color dungeon: fear of bugs
And final boss: fear of darkness,basically slime,wizards,burgers,pigs weird worms and Dark Matter from Kirby.

Mostly watched to see what they did to the Turtle Rock boss. He still seems pretty easy, but at least they did something to make him feel like an actual boss this time around instead of Simply Having you swing the sword at him till he dies.
This is one of those games where the story is amazing in a strange way. The nightmares are doing bad things, but in the I feel like fighting dethl was a mistake. I know there are multiple ways of explaining the story that makes it so that it sounds like what link did was right. However I always find myself saying "I don't know, it certainly doesn't feel right."

Some people weren't even alive when the original game was released. You can't expect them to play every old game even if they're big zelda fans. And right now we're talking about link's Awakening for the switch. It was released almost a week ago and I'm pretty sure it's not that hard to keep some secrets or end bosses for yourself.
