“Senator John McCain has responded strongly to White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer's comments on Wednesday that those characterizing the Yemen raid as not successful are doing a "disservice" to a Navy SEAL who lost his life.
In an interview with NBC News, McCain recounted an incident to explain his point that the outcome of the mission doesn't reflect the bravery of those who risk their lives.
McCain said, "Many years ago, when I was imprisoned in North Vietnam, there was an attempt to rescue the POWs. Unfortunately, the prison had been evacuated, but the brave men who...risked their lives in an effort to rescue us prisoners of war were genuine American heroes."

The raid is a violation of international law which has state sovereignty as its basis. The U.S. is not legally permitted to run military missions inside Yemen just as Yemen is not allowed to run military missions inside the U.S. Claims that the government of Yemen gave the green light for the raid don't stand up. Nobody knows who the real president of the country is and the Parliament hasn't convened in five years. All citizens of all countries are less safe when the treaties governing war are breached. The only thing that can result from lawlessness is more lawlessness.

John McCain has responded to Sean Spicer's response. Recounting a time when he was a prisoner of war with other US troops in North Vietnam, that US commanders gave the green-light to a rescue mission that ultimately failed the intelligence behind that particular mission was flawed, that the prisoners were moved from the camp to another not long beforehand and the mission was a failure, but despite that fact nobody was rescued the soldiers involved were professional and valiant and deserve respect.
Just because John McCain and the others had not been freed does not mean the soldiers fighting to free them were somehow dishonored.

Calling the mission a failure isn't insulting the troops or saying they did a bad job. They did their job, trump didn't do his. He put the troops in harms way and took their lives for granted.
