    Dear Red States,
    We want a divorce. It's not us, it's you. Please don't feel bad.
    You're going to make some dictator really happy someday. I'm sure of it.
    Love,
    California
    PS: We're taking the Northeast and PacWest with us.
    You can keep the dog, he won't stop grabbing the neighbor's kitty anyway.

      Dear California,
      I would love this. The US would lose 55 democratic electoral votes.
      That would make is nearly impossible for a democrat to become president. I know it.
      Thanks for the idea,
      Red States
      PS: Taking the Northeast and PacWest would make things 1000% easier.

    In 2015 California contributed $405 billion dollars to federal tax revenue, but we only received 58 billion dollars federal funds, basically about 86% of our tax went to subsidize dead beat red states, California just surpassed French to be the 6th largest economy in the world, can you imagine how much can be done if we keep all of our tax money to California instead?

    Wonderful doublespeak, 'undocumented immigrants', just call them what they are: ILLEGAL immigrants ffs. Say the words.

    • @rharcus
      @rharcus 7 лет назад

      It has nothing to do with making it go away - that's an entirely different issue - one which I've not touched on here. Doublespeak to control audience's susceptibility to leaning one way or another is incredibly deceitful. I'm on board with establishing means for these people who are already in-country to 'become legal', although the 'how' and 'who' details need a lot of work, but that doesn't change the deceit in the narrative the turks constantly push with their phrasing of issues such as this. Make sense?

    • @rharcus
      @rharcus 7 лет назад +1

      Lets start with this: I live abroad. I know the processes required for living in countries not of your birth, and the penalties for things like overstaying visas. There is a significant difference between the word 'illegal' and 'undocumented' - undocumented would imply that they're legal immigrants just didn't get the paperwork. No, they're not - many or most have likely entered by obviously illegal and deceptive means rather than simply paperwork mistakes, and I can tell you how many countries allow illegal immigrants to stay in their country without repercussion: NONE, that I know of. Zero. Again, I know what happens when I simply *overstay* a visa in a country, and it usually means hefty financial penalty and perhaps even deportation and refusal to re-enter the country for a given period of time..or maybe forever. I don't know why you think it should be acceptable in America to conduct this type of obviously illegal behavior, and no, there is no relationship between illegally entering and staying in a country and driving too fast - that's a ludicrous juxtaposition in my view.

    Jerry Brown is an amazing political figure, and California is amazingly lucky to have him. Jerry Brown was governor of Calif. when I was a kid in my early 20s and living in Laguna Beach, that was back in 1975. He's back as governor when the state needs him most. The only thing that bothers me about his political career is that he'd've made a damn fine president.

    My understanding of Sanctuary Cities: 1. Illegal immigrants can not be charged with crime in this country. 2. Crime would usually result in deportation as opposed to prosecution. 3. Sanctuary Cities do no allow for deportation 4. Sanctuary Cities are still bound by prosecution laws, and therefore can not charge the illegal immigrants who have committed crime. Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.

    if the undocumented immigrants in the US decided to leave, the economy would be in shambles. I dont live in the US anymore, but I did for a long time. Im a chef, and out of all the restaurants I have ever worked, in different cities mind you, 80-90% of the employees are immigrants, undocumented in a lot of cases. Trump should be thanking the immigrants, im sure he has employed them before to turn a profit by paying reduced wages to them as well. He actually has. I would like 'THE YOUNG TURKS' channel to look into this if possible. I think what you might find will be shocking to say the least. I will leave a link below to get you started. Thanks for all the coverage it is appreciated.
    time.com/4465744/donald-trump-undocumented-workers/
    "In the summer of 1980, Donald Trump faced a big problem. For six months, undocumented Polish laborers had been clearing the future site of Trump Tower,
    his signature real estate project on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue, where he
    now lives, maintains his private offices and hosts his presidential campaign."
    The men were putting in 12-hour shifts with inadequate safety equipment
    at subpar wages that their contractor paid sporadically, if at all."

More sunshine to rid their depressions. Strange and unhealthy medical problems happen to people from lack of sunshine. Look whats happening in those other, cloudy, cold and wet States! Please do not bring your lack of sunshine problems, here. 100 years ago there were approximately 3 million people in California.. I've worked for and with people from the West Coast, and though I've often found their lifestyle to be too slow and superficially nice as a lifelong Tristate resident, I do kinda feel the rest of us are probably holding them back economically. The level of self-interest in Northeast workers has become pretty blatant, and it goes from the top down. All the regular markets are drying up and competition is fierce. Bigger companies consistently egde out smaller rivals and leverage political connections to push laws that only benefit well-establish corporations, sometimes to the detriment of their whole industry. People here can grind for themselves (sometimes), but don't know how or don't want to grind for an organization.
    I don't have the best firsthand experience with people from the rest of the country, but I've often found them to have the West Coast's friendly aloofness with none of the drive. I don't have a lot of sympathy for people who complain about having to work more than 40 hours a week, breaks included. I've been coerced into doing 12 hour shifts on minimum wage (and less) many times, my bosses always making it clear they had plenty of other people applying. Stories like having to work with equipment that make your appendages bleed or strains your limbs, breathing in abestos, or dealing with rats, cockroaches and snakes are not uncommon where I grew up. I'm not even 30 yet, and I've already thrown my back out twice while working. That's not even getting into dealing with the people, co-workers and customers alike, people walking in drunk and high or fights breaking out regularly. There was a rumor going around among the supervisors at one of my past jobs that someone found blood in one of our work vans after an employee was tasked with taking it back to the HQ's parking lot. We all just take it in stride around here - people will be assholes, and bosses will make you do shitty work. We adapt and compensate, sometimes a little too much with the latter. We always aim to have something better eventually even when things are shit, and we make what plans we can for the future.
    I'm more understanding of the people near me whose trials I can relate to and who are obviously pissed at how much things are changing. But we can't make demands of places like Cali that have figured out a system that more or less works in the current economy. What we need to do is emulate that in a way that works for our specific circumstances. We need to take inventory of our skills and resources and learn to pool them with others. We need to make contacts and partnerships across class lines to find demands to fill. We need to canvass newcomers to find those we can work with and mentor, and inevitably expand our markets through their own networks. We can't rely on the industries of our parents and grandparents, because their demands are always changing and there will always be someone in leadership who wants to cut down on the workers. And we need to look past the ideology, build alliances and elect people from our own number to higher and higher positions, and then make sure we have their back when bigger interests try to test their loyalties and resolve.
