Top top for next time, when you’re using your chain riveting tool use a spanner to hold onto it instead of using your left hand. It’ll give you better leverage and you won’t have the tool digging into your palm. Ask me how I know 😆

Appreciate your videos. Keep it up mate. My favorite hack, which I’ve used a number of times, is using rachet straps to change the rear spring on my DDX.

Your channel mate, working on a bike in a home garage. There'd be people watching that haven't ever changed a tyre, had their hands on a chain breaker etc, so they'll be getting benefit from what you're doing and learning as you go. Then there's the highly experienced 'technicians' that get a flat tyre in the bush, and call for roadside assist 😆

Great video, the sprocket taught me what not to do with the chain removal 🤣but i also learnt how to fix it. Keep up the good work, i personally don't like banning opposing voices as the majority will agree with your videos and your take on bikes/gear etc you just need to learn to ignore them. I'll have to keep an eye on my brake pads as i do about 60 klm a day in heavy NYC traffic filtering through it and trying to stay alive so i think my pads will be cooked after 12k.
Yeah stop/start traffic will definitely chew them out quicker. I could have got another 20k out of these easy.

Thanks for that, yeah its fun learning all about the bike. I plan to do a tractive front and rear upgrade, just not sure if ill get it done before my next big trip. Had some house storm damage to fix up which ate into the funds a bit.

Wanted to ask though, how do you adjust your chain tension? Do you load up the bike to straighten out the swing arm? And how much slack do you maintain?
Had mine serviced by the dealer recently. After the service i’m now hearing chain slap at lower gears and slower speeds which was not present before.
Thanks for that, I adjust the chain just with the bike on the sidestand, slight tension on my fingers to measure the chain to 47mm at the measuring point under the swing arm.

Hey man, have you noticed if the DID 525ZVMX2 is rubbing on the hydraulic slave cylinder with that sprocket? I had mine installed at the same time as the 600mi service and it's giving it a bit of a chew. In the US it seems like they are being built with a grey steel front sprocket instead of that ognibene.
Its a close fit, has maybe 1mm gap but not rubbing. Its a bit strange that it has a different front sprocket unless the ratios were changed for the US market but unlikely.
@@koalakoncepts Thanks, good data point. Talking to the dealer they told me all their models have the grey (Multistrada 950) sprocket, so I'm going to try the sprocket and spacer parts on the DX diagrams. My chain is max 0.1-0.25mm when pushed towards the bike, or rubbing if not.
For anyone else that may end up having this issue, they told me the OEM chain (measured at the outer links) was 19.8-19.9mm. My DID 525ZVMX2 is about 20.3-20.5.
@KingJreff Yeah there definitely is no spacer, not sure what the dealer is telling you there.
@@koalakoncepts Got the ognibene and installed, though the dimensions are the same as the 950 sprocket installed at delivery. Placebo, but the bike does seem to behave better, especially cornering. The chain already ate what it could of the cylinder so it won't rub anymore. Time to ride!
@@KingJreff check chain specs when looking at the clearance, the ZVM is 23.19, an RK GXW is 22.9, Regina ZRP is 23.00, narrowest is EK SRO at 22.35, they're the pin lengths. We run GXW without clearance concerns. The GXM is 20mm plate width, it's the widest we'd use. It already has very little clearance.
There’s a top side for the chain? Is there a clear difference or is it just labeled top and or bottom? (I’m new to bike maintenance but not new to turning wrenches)
It dosent matter to much, its just to keep the text up the right way.
I prefer to see the struggle spots. I hate it when someone breezes past (or edits) a section of a repair that's a total PITA. The gold chain looks good.
👍 This one was definitely a PITA, The chain is definitely much better. No more chain stretch after every ride, although as it's a bit wider, it's best to space out the clutch slave just a little bit.
Hi, does your desert x heat up quick? Mine seems to heat up so quickly. As soon as I exit highway, then temp goes to 96-100 and fan always kicks in. Does your DX heat up quick too?
Mine mostly sits around 75⁰ unless im pushing it through sand or harder sections. Definitely helps to get rid of the catalytic converter.
@@koalakoncepts I removed the cat converter too, did you do some mapping or something?
@DesertX_horse Ive got a rapid evo module on mine, it works great. Do you have an aftermarket muffler or the oem one?

@DesertX_horse it should be ok with the OEM muffler but you will definitely need one or a tune if you go aftermarket. I found with the OEM muffler there is still a lot of backpressure buildup.
