These esteemed gentlemen were amongst the finest motor engineers of their day and with their V12 produced one of the finest engines in automotive history - a real work of engineering art. Such a pleasure to sit behind and be conveyed along in such style with so smooth power so effortlessly delivered. There is nothing quite like it.
Having dismantled and rebuilt my V12, it was a pleasure to work on and definitely a superb design, incredibly smooth and understressed. hats off to these two designers. Great video, thanks for uploading.... 👍🇬🇧
@@LouGuthryMotors There was never anything wrong with the mechanics, the ancillaries however were a very different matter and sadly the Yanks do an LS swap to replace the latter.
Wally Hassan, and was it Mr. Cunningham (what's his name)? being interviewed by Raymond Baxter who I loved from Tomorrow's World. I love my 5.3 V12 too.
Listening to Harry and Wally explain their choices and how they designed it It was amazing and well ahead of its time The points about exhaust emissions were very poignant I had a little giggle about that as well
This guy asking questions is literally trolling these 2 fine gentlemen back in 71’ before it was a thing wow this is a brilliant piece of engineering way past most people’s automotive comprehension respect 💯
What do you mean by trolling? My understanding of trolling is deliberately posing questions or making comments to bait or upset somebody - I don’t believe that’s what this guy is doing. Certainly he’s interviewing 71 style, which is When often non-technical interviewers would be given a set of questions to ask, and would post them at the specific times and let the people answer them, but that is not trolling
@@malcolmwhite6588 wow don’t take everything so literal relax 🙄 his style came off aggressive so I exaggerated trolling and you write a whole soliloquy about interviewing 😂
Got one in a 1986 xjs .. unworldly smooth and laid back punchy when it runs (not the donks fault .. other bits were problematical).. these gents are like the Two Ronnie's.. must have had a quiet tipple before !
I have an xj40 6 liter it's a wonderful engine I've run it up the red line many times it's always surprising not the greatest on fuel economy around 11 mi a gallon in the city 18 on the highway on 87 octane their effortless going through the mountains. You hardly ever see any of these v12 on the road anymore they were brilliant you don't think so try making your own engine

Thanks for the feedback. We are also currently rebuilding one of our own V12s, great design just sometimes a little miss understood

these engines were not able to drive for a longer period on german autobahn without dropping valve seats
Don't you just love listening to people that know exactly what they're talking about. Love my Jags.
In a world where everyone is an expert, it’s great to listen to true experts
@@LouGuthryMotors it is indeed.
Very interesting, personally think the Jaguar V12 sitting in its engine bay is an engineering work of art.
Thanks for posting.
I think so too
@@boyfromblackstuff7859 agreed.
The adventure of puting to market a lovely new engine must have been a great experience.
What delightful chaps......
Genuine old fashioned engineers
I say old chap🧐

Yes indeed!
God I love finding these old ass videos
They take you back to another time
You’re on the wrong channel : this is not an old ass video. This is about a v12 automotive engine
Fabulous engine

Quality. i have a few of these, best engine in the world in it's day if maintained correctly.
100% if you look after it, it will look after you
2:15 haha, i think i can clearly hear in the answer that he personally wouldve preferred a twin cam setup :)
The twin cam was used in the XJ13, you can get one made today...... if you have the reddies....i was only looking at one last week..

Thanks for watching and commenting
I’ve had seven of them over a period of 20 years and they have been extremely reliable. My daily has 189k never rebuilt.
