    Hey! This is my first RUclips video with this type of content and actually my second RUclips video ever. I uploaded a previous one but deleted it because I didn’t like it (and I had uploaded a couple of shorts before, but I removed them because they didn’t fit my channel anymore). So I’m sure there are some editing mistakes. The two most important ones I think are Lloyd Grant's quote (it is from a LouderSound/MetalHammer interview) and the part from 3:41 to 4:45 (which is a paraphrase of an interview Brian Slagel gave to The Metal Voice podcast). While I included the sources in the Google Docs file in the video description, I should have also included them in the video itself. I considered deleting and re-uploading the video since it only has 2k views, but some people have already left cool comments and I don’t want to remove their contributions because they took the time to write them. Instead, I'll pin this comment so everyone can see it first. Thanks for watching! 🤘

      I think Lars involvement not only with the music but merchandising, management and probably a bunch more that we don't see necessarily gets missed 🤔. Great video and hope to see the re-upload.

    As much crap Lars gets for his drumming compared to other Metal bands, Lars deserves props for his strengths in arrangement and business. Metallica would never have gone as far as they did without him.

    He's very strategic. 1986 with Peter Mensch they have pulled Vertigo Europe arm of Elektra some muscle on distribution of their material in the EU market. All other band members thought he was conniving and rumored to be booted out. But his intention was to shove Metallica to the masses in the 80s more than word of mouth. Their social media managers were all young and bright and their ideas were considered and necessary for the band to thrive in the modern era.

    Correct me if I'm wrong but i'm pretty sure the rest of the band wanted enter sandman to be the lead single while lars and bob rock wanted it to be holier than thou, not the other way around

      @@HeyDearMusician all we are is human. If someone seems more or less human than the next should we condemn them? Overblown is an overstatement. I've heard mostly that he can't play live and that they hate saint anger and the sound of the drum. But if anyone else was put into the same place they wouldn't have done shit because they never would have been there. They would have been living their own dumb lives. Like we all do. Don't make your lives dumb by hating others, lift yourselves up by being your best or fuck whatever. Lol see if I care.

    Great video man! The hate on Lars is so ridiculous. People just parroting others with no idea what they’re talking about. They act like because Metallica is so big that just mean Lars claims to be the best drummer. Two things can be true, they’re one of the greatest and he’s a good drummer not great.

    • @goldenwolf8081
      @goldenwolf8081 2 месяца назад +4

      He’s not the greatest drummer, but it’s fits perfectly for Metallica. same way Kirk’s wah pedal also fits a lot of the solos, Lars excels tho at songwriting and giving ideas for riffs like for enter sandman, saying “you hear The 2 and 1 in that?” he’s a genius and a lot of hateful fans probably know that but refuse to admit it just because his drumming is “out of tempo” or “rushed” he’s in his 60s and he’s still touring the world with the rest of the band so I say he’s still doing something right.

    • @HeyDearMusician
      @HeyDearMusician  2 месяца назад +2

      Thanks a lot, I'm really glad you liked it! Yeah, exactly. I think criticizing Lars for his 'simple' rhythms and patterns isn’t really fair because his style is a big part of what makes Metallica sound like they do. It’s kind of like ripping on Phil Rudd from AC/DC for playing simple grooves. Sure, you could replace him with a more technical drummer, but the band would no longer sound like AC/DC.

      True, I tried not to focus on his drumming but rather on his business and management side in this video. But yes, he does have a really original drumming style. If you listen to an isolated drum track from one of Metallica's songs, you can probably recognize the song just by the drums alone. That says a lot, haha. Thank you for your comment!

    I haven't yet finished the video but I got through the comments. God, those stupid Lars defenders...
    There are things about Lars that deserve praise. EVERYONE KNOWS THAT. Stop making fools of yourselves. Every Metallica fan knows that his drum parts back in the day were AWESOME. That he's very important for the band. That he - OH MY GOD - has MONEY! That's the most ridiculous f-ing defend point for anyone. This is not why he is hated! In my generation, let's put it this way, he's hated because right after St.Anger he just stopped practicing and IT REALLY SHOWED. People went to shows and were dissapointed with how blatantly lazy he was. Later I discovered by watching the live videos he's been lazy since the freaking 80s. That's treating your fans like dirt. That's legitimate criticism. It's so pathetic, all those people whining about "STOP HATING ON POOR LARS", blablalba. Making stupid excuses, pointing fingers, mixing things up. Good is good, everyone knows that. Bad is bad.
    The same way it's become a custom to bash Kirk. I'm not the one doing it but he brought it upon himself exactly the way Lars did. For years he's been sloppy and everyone ignored that. Until more recently it's gotten out of proportion. When you can't do your job at a decent level and your way of dealing with it is consciously doing nothing about it - sooner or later people are gonna start being really dissapointed. The more slappy and not_caring you are - the more severe it's gonna be. It's as simple as that. It has nothing to do with management, with doing a lot for the band, with making arrangements, with this and that, with HAVING MONEY (so everyone should shut up), god...

      @@judas_saves You mean the rumour that Scott Ian started and Kirk laughed off? Kirk and Lars already confirmed that if a member had a particularly bad gig they'd badmouth them for a bit to vent steam. Scott Ian happend to be party to one such event about Lars and as Kirk said overblew it and made it more than it was. The fact that this was a story in Scott Ians upcoming book and he was using it as a way to publicise the book should tell you everything you need to know about that story. Even Scott backtracked on that statement later.
