    I REALLY appreciate seeing this video since the Walmart setup is about what I could afford...and did buy. So you've given me the faith that I'm not wasting my time. The car is a 2006 that probably has never had paint correction, although the clear coat is still completely intact.

    I bought the larger 9-10" DA from Walmart. Just under $30. Used the Turtle Wax compound and polish as well, had a Lexus with severe hazing and swirl marks. The DA is... okay. I'd say the results I got, which were outstanding, are more of a testament to the Turtle Wax compound/polish than the DA. But I agree, for DIY and under $40, the results were night-and day, brought the luster and shine back to the paint.

    Great review. I used that same polisher for years on my personal cars. I can’t complain, for $20+ bucks.
    The pads that come with it are the negative part, cheap and don’t last.
    2+ years ago, I did upgrade to a Griot’s polisher. Much Better pads and way easy to control is the big plus.
    BTW, I still use the cheap one for projects around the house. It’s a workhorse.

    Walmart has a surprising good PLATINUM 6" DUAL ACTION POLISHER that has 6 speeds for $70 and each pad costs around $7 with 3 different densities available.

    I don’t know if you read comments to old vids, but thanks for this. I’m a newb on paint correction. I’m an older guy and really should have learned how to do this years ago. I’m going to watch more of your vids and then go attempt to work on my cars. I have a 95 one owner ranger I bought new and it would benefit. I also have an 06 Land Cruiser that needs some paint love. I buy vehicles and drive them forever.

    Interesting comparison....I suspect the person spending 20 dollars on the walmart orbital isn't going to have the years of technique you have perfected and would probably oversaturate the MF bonnet and wouldn't be accomplishing these results with it though. I'd say this is more a showcase of how experience, even with inferior tools, and get acceptable results.

    • @ScottHD
      @ScottHD  Год назад +8

      Fair point indeed. Also proving it IS possible. It did take quite a bit more time just due to the lack of power and low speed.

    • @Guynhistruck
      @Guynhistruck Год назад

      I'd agree: but that just makes it feel that much more like one of those videos where they give a musician and entry level instrument, or an artist cheap crayons from the grocery store and tell them to make something out of it, and it always comes out great because their years of experience matter that much more than the equipment they're using. Just goes to show you that you don't have to have expensive stuff, or a dedicated facility with fancy pressure washers and air compressor setups and lighting to do a professional level job on your car. You just need to know what you're doing and understand the process well enough to acclimate yourself to the tools that you have.
      I'd say it's even more encouraging to those who don't necessarily have the budget for most of the things that RUclipsrs tend to cover on a regular basis. This kind of tears down the barrier of entry to the point where anyone can see themselves doing this kind of work if they put the time and effort into it.

    When someone does a wax job on their car, they can go out and buy the most expensive buffer on the shelf, but if they don’t pick a good brand-name compound and wax to use, it would have been better to buy the-cheapest buffer with a good brand-name wax and compound, they would get a better wax job

    Yeah, I’ve watched videos in the past, but I don’t know this one just kind of caught me by surprise because I’m looking at the car in the hood you chose to do your test and the hood didn’t look bad at all. I didn’t see swirls I didn’t see scratches. so I would say get a black hood with a lot of scratching a lot of marring and a lot of swirls do the test again because this was a waste of a 15 minute video in my opinion, and I didn’t prove anything oh yeah and please do something about the audio in your videos. I mean you’ve been doing these videos for at least over 10 years and you still don’t got the right audio in the video could be better to man come on 2024 we can do better. ✌🏼 out 🐶
