Steve, another vote for UHaul boxes. Make sure you mark your boxes CLEARLY on multiple sides. I marked with a big felt pen, where they were alphabetical and numbered them as well. Also bought a roll of big Fragile stickers and placed them all over the boxes. These boxes may or probably may not come off the truck in any kind of order or even near each other, the stickers help with this. The numbers help in getting them in some sort of order to start putting away. Good luck! I had 65-70 boxes😮
Yeah you have a heck of a collection. We were suppose to fly to Dallas for our meeting and suddenly they decided to do Zoom again. I was so disappointed. I was hoping to meet up with you again. Where did you get the fragile stickers at? I suppose Amazon.
My favorite storage boxes are from Bags Unlimited.. The Archival white boxes, either waterproof or cardboard. So.. What are the best sturdy boxes that fit well ? Thanks !
When we moved to Bakersfield it wasn’t so bad because it was only a 100 mile trip. I was going back and forth to work on the house. Every trip I would load up 6 or 8 boxes of records. I would unload them and bring the empty boxes back to LA. The movers didn’t touch a record. I did get rid of a lot of stuff though. It has been 3 1/2 years and the CDs are still in boxes and most of the DVDs are in boxes.
Richie, I found that with so much stuff, it stayed in boxes with each move. The flood cleaned me up of a lot of stuff I kept bringing along with each mood. Not at our age you just have to be more reasonable and ask will I truly look or listen to that again. 100 mile trip makes for a long day but you also purged Lot of decisions to be made
Hi Steve. Last time I moved uhaul had perfect size boxes for records. I insisted on moving my equipment and records myself. Box sets are always odd sized 😊. Good luck 🤞
I wound up ordering those record boxes from Amazon. I figured I could repurpose them ( more crap to store) but eventually I need to sell my collection and I could maybe do a record show. Maybe
Home Depot large size boxes are the perfect size, and relatively inexpensive - they fit perfectly (mine did) and they're pretty sturdy as well. You can add padding on each side if you're nervous about it, to insulate things. Large bubble wrap is excellent. Also, tape both ends of the box three times for security and then go the other way a couple times to reinforce, worked out well for me! Good luck, Professor!
With all that tape TC i may never be able to get back into the box. I just want to make sure they are not to heavy. Us senior citizens can’t lift what we use to. This is an adventure
This is a nice looking record store. I have only really moved short distances, and the last time was just 1.1 kilometres! My local liquor store had boxes that worked. They were large enough to hold records, and small enough so they were not too heavy. All I can say is good luck.
And with a liquor box you can get some extra smells added to the records! I was I,pressed with what they did with the store, very well organized and easy to shop Brian
Hey Steve, those boxes will be useful for something if not records .....Seeing you box everything up ...reminds me of my BIGGEST 'moving record collection' mistake - I didn't keep a list of what I had.... so some boxes in the big move 'went west' never to be seen again..😥 !! I've had to slowly rebuild my collection from memory (and that's tough) - sure you've got that covered. Oh and move your most precious ones yourself with you - don't loan them to nobody - good luck !
Wow, someone inherited your records. I got my whole collection on discogs. Good call on the most expensive albums. I was boxing those last and I could squeeze them into the car…maybe. Good info Gary, thank you
Hello 😰Steve; The record shop on the corner, looks well stocked. The official EMS boxing & packing video. Kat skipped out on the heavy work. The Amazon boxes could be utilized for books & miscellaneous memorabilia. Did you try Staples? Good luck, with the packing. Take care, 🙋♀Tina & 🙋♂Pat!~
Boxing up the collection is fun huh? I've done it before and it's a pain. I did the medium boxes from Walmart I think as they were cheaper. I don't remember if I had problems closing it though. Going to have to do this again this year when we move to Texas. I may have to get the boxes specific for records too. Wishing you all the best Steve in this endeavor. Another great video.
I’m watching and learning Steve. My time is coming in the next couple of years. Lots of good suggestions in the comments. Sheesh, makes me tired just thinking about it. At least you only bought one more record to box up. Cheers.
Jack, just don’t move to France, wow would that be a hassle! I need to open up my record room, too much stuff so the room looks small, so much pressure. So now do I take all the boxes from upstairs and bring them to the basement so they can then be brought back up again? Also, records and my basement don’t go well together lol
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 No worries about moving to France. If I was crazy enough to do that, my son would probably get another great opportunity at a vineyard in Spain and move on me 😂😂🙁. Don’t be moving stuff up and down to the basement, killer on the back. Can’t you find some corner upstairs where the boxes are sort of out of the way? Maybe get your wife something special before you bring it up? 😁😁If you get too stressed you can take a page out of my book and have a couple of martinis for happy hour. Or whatever your tipple is. Really great looking store. They have a lot of square footage! It’s looks similar in size to my old record store. I had to stop watching when you started boxing up records. I just can’t start my day with that much anxiety 😂😂. Thanks for sharing buddy. Take care.
Hahaha Steve. Sorry for the anxiety! Relator wants me to empty out some of my office so it looks bigger. The store was real nice and the owner is great.
When I moved 15 years ago, there was a smallish medium size box sold at Public Storage that was perfect for my LPs. Just tall enough, no gap, not as long as your test box. Held 35-50 LPs, can’t remember exactly. Fast forward to last winter when I thought I was going to be moving again. I went back and bought another stack of 10 of those same boxes to get me started and suddenly the dimensions weren’t quite right. I’m not sure what changed but I began looking online and it was tough to find just the right box. Then the move was called off so I stopped looking. But next time I’ll have to remember to check out the UHaul and Home Depot ones since it will surely come up eventually. You’d think one of those box manufacturers would design ones specifically for things like LPs and corner the market.
Jack, I plan to go check out UHaul on their boxes. I also bought some of those expensive Amazon records boxes. I will do a video comparing them as this can be helpful. Let my screwups help others haha. I already loaded up 7 boxes and emptied 91/2 cubes. 32 more cubes to go plus some records in book shelves. It is going to be a pile of boxes.
Loved the trip to record store videos! I live in a small city in Iowa so I would love to have a store like that near me The nearest decent record store is about 35 miles from me!!

Sounds like you got it through the comments with the U-Haul boxes. Good job on only buying one album at the record store. That store looks like they favor new records.
They do have a lot of new. I visited another brand new store in Grand Rapids that cost me three albums but 2 were reissues that I could not find anywhere. Super nice owner. Trying to hit some of these stores before I go. I might have a tour lined up at the third man record pressing plant to do a video. I will let you know when if you are interested Michael
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 that would be very cool! Sounds like you found a cool store! Hey, next week seems hectic at work for me, but the week after, I’ll contact you about meeting in Midland.
Steve, you need the small U-Haul boxes to move your records each box will hold about 100 or so records and it will weigh about 60 pounds so that medium box you have is way too big take it for me who is moved lots and lots of records from picking up Record collections.
And a couple more things be sure to reinforce those handles on the boxes with some tape because they will tear on you. Definitely not the best handles.. or just don’t use them at all and pick up the box from the bottom. And that tape roller you have those always suck. I just buy the one that has the plastic holder built into the roll of the tape and that’s disposable. Sometimes you can find a pack where it comes with the holder and six rolls of tape work much better better I find.. and you’re gonna need a big bottle of ibuprofen. And don’t forget the handtruck..
I just figured the tape roller sucked because of the operator! Obviously there is more to it then just me being inept Good call on the handles, best to not even bother with them

Hi Steve - Box 📦 em & ship 🚢 em ! ..Nice move by Harbaugh to Southern California ..Go out on top & no more draconian NCAA. Lions 🦁 will win on Sunday & off to Vegas 🎰 !!
My least favorite thing about a record store is being the only one there shopping. It makes me want to get out fairly quick. Unless the deals are good. I see you didn't get Madrgalchor Klagenfurt
Henry, I never thought of shopping alone. Since I always ask to film I do t mind being the only one in the shop. Who the heck is Klagenfurt lol. Yes I missed that one
Cool record store Mike & they moved...like you are! I hate moving and I have done it a lot and also from Melbourne to Perth & back again in the late 90's. In retrospect I should've burned everything I owned and started from scratch upon arrival at each domicile. Also thank you for the "how to tape a box" instructional video. What "are" you going to listen to? Cheers...Mike PS You could leave the records & keep the boxes, become a member of the #BC (Box Community)
The Box Community where every video looks at the fun you can have with boxes and discuss the merits of corrugated cardboard. It could be big. Just think of the excitement Mike when suddenly you show colored cardboard. Oh the jealousy viewers watching you would have when suddenly you showed blue cardboard. Wow! No doubt the the Mikes would want to get in on it Moving sucks, especially this time since I’m doing a lot of the packing. Have a great week Mike
This move is reminding me that if I have to move...it'll be a headache. I'll have to do most of it by myself and at my age with arthritis??? First and most important question is are you going to do this heavy lifting yourself?? If yes then go with small boxes, much lighter in weight. If your getting help, then count your blessings. My record shelves are super heavy. Custom Built as not ever collapse. Good luck and thanks for sharing Steve.
Walter, I am doing a lot of the boxing but we will have a moving company come in and load up the truck. I got arthritis in the back so I keep dealing with with heavy things for long either. I got 5 weeks to work on it and make slow progress. I try to do something everyday I’m home. Not enjoying it but the end reward will make it worth it.
Have you thought of hitting up your buddy at the record store? I've gotten tons of record boxes from my local. At 10 bucks apiece? Yikes. I have 286 of them back in L.A. Glad I didn't have to pay ten bucks each for them.
Good idea Darrell, I will ask him. He has a small shop so not sure how much he does get in. All these costs add up along with the work on the house to fix things we have put off. You have moved so you know. 286 boxes of records, I would guess they are in a climate controlled storage unit
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Hopefully, he has some. They get shipped records all the time and then they sell them leaving empty boxes. In theory. Yeah, they're in deep storage. They're already in big wooden containers, so when I have them shipped up here, they must forklift the containers onto a truck and don't have to pack the individual boxes.
I don’t envy you Steve. I will say 10 bucks a box seems like a lot but when you think about how much your collection is actually worth it probably really isn’t a ton of money but I would definitely check with U-Haul and others first. Good luck!
Carlos, I am buying a couple of different types to see what works best for I will say the $10 box is extremely sturdy. I will have a video showing these. People like unboxing videos, well I will be doing a boxing video

Steve, that’s a nice ass store. I wonder if that Corrosion of Conformity- Blind on the wall was an OG. Oh cool Arch Enemy album on the wall too. A lot of cool stuff. Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman
I think Corrosion album was a repress Steve but I can say for sure. As far as the other record I have no clue lol. It was a great looking store
Sleeve city always had good, stackable boxes with lids. I used them and had zero issues. Moved 4k records.
Sleeve City, that is a new one for me. It does take a lot of boxes.
Hi Steve - Box 📦 em & ship 🚢 em ! ..Nice move by Harbaugh to Southern California ..Go out on top & no more draconian NCAA. Lions 🦁 will win on Sunday & off to Vegas 🎰 !!
On Sunday we are going to Ford Field to watch the game. The stadium sold out for that. Pretty excited David
Hey Steve, box size 13x13x13 is the right size. This last move I could only find 15x15x15 and they were touch too big and were heavy
Steve, so true about those bigger boxes. I worry about the bottom giving out on them. Us old guys can’t handle heavy boxes
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Klagenfurt was in your video.
I just have no idea who it is so I have to look the person up. Positive I have d no music from the artist
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 I was just havin some fun. Not much of it where I am in Boregon
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 The Box Community is where the action is to be sure Mike.
H tape the bottom of your carton with edges taped U-haul sells the one Mike at the in-groove uses. UPS offers lots of packaging advice
Thanks for that tip. U haul sells a better tape, that makes sense.
U-Haul small boxes are the best for records and they are super low priced! Wishing you the best with the move.
Thanks Bill. Luckily that flood made this process a whole lot easier lol. U Haul has been recommended by almost everyone
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Just don’t rely on the side handles to pick them up once filled up with records.
Warehouse work may not be your calling card Steve. Although that could have been some new fangled tape gun. 🤣
Haha one more job I can’t do Chance. My job skills is basically telling other people what to do. After that I’m pretty worthless lol
This move is reminding me that if I have to move...it'll be a headache. I'll
have to do most of it by myself and at my age with arthritis??? First and most
important question is are you going to do this heavy lifting yourself?? If yes then go with small boxes, much lighter
in weight. If your getting help, then count your blessings. My record shelves are super heavy. Custom Built as not ever collapse. Good luck and
thanks for sharing Steve.
I think I got my boxes from menards. Worked very well.
🎶 Save Big Money At Menards ! 🎶
Someone also mentioned Home Depot Eric
Good luck!
Kendall, your point is very good and I did buy some of those boxes. They are excellent and very sturdy. I will get some from U Haul also
Sorry that the boxes didn’t work. Yeah, it’s sucks that just one box is $10.
Carlos, I am buying a couple of different types to see what works best for I will say the $10 box is extremely sturdy. I will have a video showing these. People like unboxing videos, well I will be doing a boxing video
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 I think it would be a cool little series if you made a video for a few different boxes and talked about some of the albums as you put them in the box. Just an idea.
What a fantastic shop; so clean and organized. Very nice selection of 45's. The boxes are expensive but worth it. Make sure you lift the Amazon and U Haul boxes from the bottom. My god Steve, don't cut your hand on that tape cutter. Start over, you're going to damage your records. You're making me nervous. This is hard to watch. Don't be a cheapskate with the boxes! How much did you drop for one Zamrock album?? 🙂
Mark, you should see me with an axe or knife! I did buy some of the Amazon boxes but will also try some of the u haul boxes and do a video. Someone else brought up how much did you pay for a Zamrock album lol. I get the point. I couldn’t imagine packing up my old collection Mark. FYI, the video of the 45 tables were specifically done for you. I just visited a new shop that had 12 inch singles of REM albums that I videos in case you needed them. See Mark, always thinking of you and tempting you lol
take your Miles and the Zamrock, get rid of everything else and take that cash and start fresh in Denver. you will love it
But Sherv, I just started over 3 years ago ! Zamrock and Mikes would be the way to go. My eventual selling of the rare Zamrock albums does worry me
Liquor boxes.
Someone else also said liquor boxes Ralph. That’s a lot of liquor to drink!
Our store leaves empty boxes available for anyone to pick up.@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
UHaul boxes the best.
I am going to try a few of them along with some others to see what works best and report back.
If you left that Creed behind Dillon will ban you from Noble.
lol, Dillon is a big Creed fan, sigh. I guess my days of buying Zamrock are over Dave
Box it all up except one cube. You’ll live. Maybe get rid of the Classical and 90% of the soundtracks.
Get rid of the Bob Mould’s too.
@@vinylrichie007But keep the Husker Du !
@@davidellis5141 Yeah, keep the Husker Du.
Stop it Richie, leave Bob alone
No help David
At least you will now be closer to God's country when you move to CO. Hope you can tolerate the Buffaloes fans.
I do hope to get to a game or two. My son has already found the NE bars in Denver! Pretty excited about this season. Seem like something we say a lot haha
Looks annoying thing to do... :(
It is Mr Finglish and it hurts my back. Not fun!
