- On the Opening Day of the 2019 KBO season on Saturday, March 23, SK Telecom brought a mythical dragon-like animal wyvern to the 5G-equipped SK Happy Dream Park, home to SK Wyverns. The large fire-breathing wyvern flying around the park was streamed live though sports broadcasting channels for baseball fans.
To realize the amazing augmented reality(AR) performance, SK Telecom has applied its self-developed AR/VR technologies such as 'eSpace,' a hyperspace platform that can replicate the real world into a virtual space, and 'T real Platform,' where AR contents can be freely/easily created and shared.
Since launching the world's first 5G network on December 1, 2018, No.1 Korean mobile operator SK Telecom has been actively developing diverse 5G services including AR and VR to take customer experience to the next level.

It's still impressive that the app can show the dragon on all of their phones in the exact same position. i would think the app would work anywhere but the fact that it only works in the stadium(i assume), is absolutely incredible! the environment/facial recognition software is getting more amazing by the day, although with frightening implications.
edit: OH 5G! thats because 5G can track anything anywhere, through walls, anything. its like sonar. amazing stuff but it runs at an unusually high frequency which could be dangerous long term.

It isn't a hologram, its AR, which means you can only see it through your phones. Also, I think it's prerecorded, the way people don't react and the low FPS compared to the dragon/wyvern just seems to confirm it. Essentially, an advertisement.

I agree with the comments..... Except we aren't there yet. It was an AR (augmented reality) dragon NOT a hologram. It wasn't visible to the naked eye, it had to be viewed with a phone or screen of some sort. Luckily, convincing holograms still don't exist except with a few pretty easy to spot setups.

It doesn’t really look like anyone in the park pays attention to the projected dragon. You can even notice a younger person with their back turned while the dragon is glowing and flying right past. Even the players on the field seem to be looking at the big screen. I am just investigating to see if it’s really happening how it’s being described.

It's actually interesting to see how many people are still clueless about AR and the difference between AR and VR. It's not a new technology and everybody has heard of a platform/software using AR or VR... Microsoft HoloLens and Pokemon Go uses AR which is an Augmented Reality bringing the virtual into our real world, while your VR is the full immersion into a virtual world, hence Virtual Reality bringing you into a movie or a game though headgear (Headphones and Headset) completely blocking any visual or sound from the real world. I think we need more videos and events like this which will help educate the masses which will create more demand and therefore fast track development of these technologies.

YES! People are so stupid they go hosing around terms like "hologram", confusing CGI for Holo all the time, without understanding the tech. Notice the vid on the live Big Screen is 400-500 milliseconds behind the real action. The animation is being rendered in 2 separate occurrences. What appears LIVE is the first rendering, then THAT rendering is run through a second rendering to produce the vid on the Big Screen. The delay between first & 2nd rendering is the evidence. If it were viewable live both the main video we're watching and the one on the Big Screen in the stadium WOULD BE IN SYNC.
