  • I'm super stoked! Finally...my Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera gets Michelin Pilot Sport AS3 Plus Tires!
    After getting my teeth rattled out of my head for the first 2 months of owning my 86 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera thanks to a set of bad tires, I finally break down and buy a set of Michelin Pilot Sport AS3 Plus's for the car.
    Join me as I give you my unfiltered first impressions of these Pilot Sports and how they perform on my 86 3.2 Carrera in Guards Red. I'll share with you exactly how much I paid and whether or not I'm happy - at least initially - with how the tires do under various conditions.
    If you're considering buying a set of Michelin Pilot Sport AS3 Plus tires for a Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera, then by watching this video you'll gain an understanding of how these tires behave at low speeds, at high speeds and you'll also hear me discuss road noise. Finally, you'll also learn about the biggest impact these tires have had on the overall driving experience of the car.
    Technical information:
    This car came with 17" wheels (along with the original wheels that the previous owner included in the sale), so I had to buy these tires in the following sizes:
    Fronts: 215/45/17
    Rears: 245/40/17
    I am running Bilstein sport suspension that was put on by the previous owner. I believe the car has also been slightly lowered with newer springs.
    Have any experience or thoughts about whether these tires are the best for an air cooled 3.2 Porsche 911? Share your experience in the comments.
    And - as always - don't forget to subscribe and give me a thumbs up. I'm building this channel one comment, one thumbs up or thumbs down, and one subscriber at a time. Would love to have you on board!

    About My Channel:
    Rennthusiast (formerly Bavarian Enthusiast TV) is for the most part a Porsche 911 channel centering on experiencing air cooled Porsches, but will also feature other vintage, analog vehicles I add to the collection. The channel is the result of my deep passion for air cooled Porsches, my interest in the air cooled Porsche community, my obsession with modding, improving, buying and selling cars in general and my desire to put myself out there on RUclips and share these passions with other enthusiasts.
    As I continue to build this channel, I'll be adding more cars to the mix, and will likely branch out beyond the German sports car genre as is the case with this video. Why? Because I LOVE cool collector cars and as my interests morph and change, so will this channel.
    As of the date of this video, the collection includes a 1995 Porsche 911 993 Coupe, a 1986 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera Coupe, a 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo, a 2000 Toyota Landcruiser and....a 1993 Toyota Landcruiser FZJ80 (no they're not German but they've been bucket list vehicles for me so they're now in the collection).

    Have these tires on the wife’s BMW and they are excellent. Great performance all season tire. Never had a bad experience with any Michelin tire. Since it’s a “fun” car I would get the Michelin PS2 or PS4S next time for more grip in the mountains 😉

      Jarrett Barnett I am running PS4’s on the 993 and love them. Put them through their paces a couple of months ago in western NC as you’re aware. I am pretty sure you did the same thing...in fact, so much so that you had spent rubber adhered to the sides of your rear bumper, no? 😂

    Thanks Will for confirming my thoughts on new tires. I’m ready to change tires on my 85 Carrera. The Michelin AS/3 tires have been my go to tire on my other sporting cars for last 10 plus years. That is where I was going to on the 911, but it’s nice to know I’m headed in the right direction.

    Would love to hear from any viewers who have personal experience with either these tires or other competitive tires specifically on a 3.2 911. I have found these to be great and have put even more miles on them since shooting this video, and it's been a pleasure. Do you think a/s3 plus's are great? Do you think they're garbage? Let me know!

    Hey I also got these tires and the tires I had before were Michelin’s primacy HP and the car was loud and stiff and I also assumed that was just the cars nature but after getting my new Michelin PS AS3+ the tires have changed the nature of my car in the sense that my cabin is quite and the ride is comfortable. It’s wild. I love these tires.

    I have the Pilot Sport 4S on my 997.2 and they are super planted on the road. Has a little bit of comfort but definitely great for handling on dry and wet roads. Your 911 is looking awesome and can't wait to see more of it.

    Hi there, well done on your You tube channel I have enjoyed watching the videos very much.I have a 3.2 and it was transformed after putting on Pirelli P Zero’s replacing the 10 year old rubber.
    I would love to hear your thoughts on the comparison of your 3.2 and 993, I test drove a 993 Carrera 4 and thought it was amazing.

      Richard Bishop Thanks for the compliment.
      I have been giving some thought to the best way to do an apples-to-apples comparison of the 993 and 3.2 and will be doing a video on this very topic. Be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already so you are notified when I publish that video, as well as others.
      Thanks for watching!

    Purchased a set of these tires for my 2004 BMW 330ci back in March. Amazing tires, I have no complaints so far. Would recommend to anyone considering to buy them. Beautiful porsches too.

    I just bought a set, 225 45/r18 all around, for $525. I think I got a steal on them.
    They are going on a 2016 Cadillac ATS 3.6 AWD Performance. I work in Detroit and I am hoping they can handle the roads (or lack thereof) here.

    I have a 2015 BMW Z4 35is. The vehicle came with run flat tires. (Side Note: In NH, where I live, there are lots of frost heaves and other abnormalities on scenic back roads.) I have just ordered the MPS AS3+, Front: 225 35 19, Rear: 255 30 19. I hoping that these new tires will out preform the ride of the run flats. Run flat tires, I believe, should only be "run" on "flat" surfaced roads.

  • @gilltim5711
    @gilltim5711 3 года назад

    I think what happened was the tires you had on before were the track tires, which are harder and half bald on the inside. What they did was give you a different kind of tire, one built for more city driving, which is a softer tire with more tread. The other tire is built for the track, is firmer and harder. That's why you felt the bumps.

    Great post Will. Can you comment on if you bought these A/S 3+ tires in Pilot Sport A/S 3+ in (W- or Y-Speed Rated) or (W- or Y-Speed Rated)? I see them available in both. Just curious which you got? Thx

    • @Rennthusiast
      @Rennthusiast  4 года назад +1

      Stacey Snyder sorry, but I honestly don’t know. I just took what the shop recommended. I’m guessing that it’s the lower speed rating.

      @@Rennthusiast I just realized I copy and pasted my initial message wrong. Should have meant in (W- or Y-Speed Rated) or (H- or V Speed rated)? I'm likely going to buy the same size as you for my 17" wheels.

      Class A_818 I’ve been happy with them. Confidence-inspiring and sticky enough for me, at least as far as I’m willing to push the car.
      I obviously can’t speak to a long-term review at this point but Michelin builds a solid product in my experience.
      There is sidewall flex in the handling but is not too much and isn’t a problem. It also softens up the ride.
      Good luck and let me know how it goes.
      Also, thanks for watching!

    I'm getting rid of the Goodyear run flats on my 2015 Merz S550 and replacing with these asap. The run flats are terrible, the ride is rough, they have harder rubber. Run flats are garbage and no good, once you drive on them flat anyways. The hard resin or whatever they manufacture them with in the sidewall and interior makes the tire not good in response , grip etc. It's almost like concrete or some type of hard substance in the tire. My other Benz had Michelin Pilot Super Sport and they were an awesome high speed rated tire. The only issue I will have with replacing with the Pilot A/S 3 Plus is, I have no room to keep a spare. Bring back the good ole days of having a friggin spare in the boot or trunk. Heck, I'll even settle for the small donut spare.

  • @lovetoride9646

    Which tires did you replace with the Michelins?

    • @Rennthusiast
      @Rennthusiast  3 года назад

      Not sure. It’s been awhile. But I have since replaced the Michelin’s with Yokohama advan neomas and they are heads and shoulders above the Michelin’s in terms of performance. They are much softer so won’t last as long but they are stickier and more fun.

    Like your channel thanks for sharing. I have same tires on my 85 Carrera same shock set up Bilstein shocks and lowered. I have noticed same low and higher speed performance with the car especially the handling on the windy mountain roads here in California (just put 150 miles on them in the last 2 weeks). I have 225/45R17 and 255/40R17 only thing I will say is try tirerack.com in the future as I got all 4 tires for $735.08 including CA sales tax.
