  • Welcome to the installment of the DPS video! I did one of these for healers, and that was much more focused as the elite specs are fewer. This time around we can cover so many more elite specializations that present a clear and obvious direction for DPS.
    Enjoy!

I'd be interested in hearing you talk about classes able to provide comfortable Solo playstyles too honestly. A lot of ppl overlook Solo builds because supposedly Open World is too easy to care about it but for newer or less skilled players who struggle with GW2's more dynamic and adaptive combat and movement system, it can still be helpful to learn what works better when Solo since the needs of Solo builds are different from group roles.

I once met a freakshow of a spellbreaker that pulled 40k dps on Sabetha in W1. It might not be the obvious bc of how the traits and class are constructed, but the potential certainly there.
I main a Soulbeast and a Virtuoso. Anything more complicated breaks my brain xD

I know that renegade is more suited towards condition damage because its nearly immortal in PVE but don't underestimate a power build as its damage applies not just to you but to your spirits as well. Which can lead to extremely good burst damage as it multiplies your sources of damage when you drop a damaging spirit down like the Iron Legion or Ash legion spirits. The only issue is that you take the assassin stance as your secondary which unlike the demon stance isn't very tanky at all, its incredibly mobile, helps you build might and lets you deal destructive levels of burst but your healing and sustain leaves much to be warranted, so with this playstyle its more kill them faster than they can kill you. Its more suited towards PVP than PVE but I have had no problem at all with open world content, fractals and even some raids.

BTW there is a comment below about Solo Builds, which I agree with, but I play 99% Solo, and this build Rocks for Solo in Open World. Its pretty much got a lower DPS ceiling in exchange for being a bit harder to kill. So its reasonably a beginner friendly class but its not as suited for damage as other classes are. But Anet balances stuff eventually so it should get spruced up eventually.

I play warrior as Berserker for traditional melee class type. Spellbreaker for WvW and sPvP and use Core for open world. My main alt is an elementalist I use as a tempest alac healer for fractals only as dagger dagger and WvW zerg as a staff healer. My last alt I play rarely is my ranger as a druid healer in WvW or as a ranger with longbow and greatsword for that range dps feel.

Spellbreaker taking a minor in dps? It's hitting hard enough with such a smooth rotation that outside of the sweatiest comps you're easily top two in your group if not first.
Power dps Herald is solid and is getting buffed. One of the skills is going from a x2.0 stat scaling modifer to x4, praise be big bursty numbers and faster cool down reductions.
Vindicator is also getting multiple large multiplier increases on several skills.
Untamed (ranger) is is getting quite a few indirect buffs as their damage modifiers that require an enemy to be cc'd are now always in effect when you're against a defiant(cc "immune") enemy.
note: the "trait modifiers that trigger on cc condition" being active on defiant enemies, is also being applied to everyone else too, so that's a nice upgrade to relevant professions.
Deadeyes will be able to move when kneeling next patch, at a reduced rate of course but now it won't be necessary have to waste a dodge to move a few steps.
Holosmith buffs for both pwr and condi variant coming soon.
For mechanist's, if the current preview patch ships as is, will have to learn how to manage their pets else the mechs will lose 50% of the players stats after a duration.
There's also a slight rifle nerf but the wording is odd so we'll see how it lands.
Catalyst buffs look interesting as they're obtaining the Aegis boon and the hammer 3 skills will act as a pulsing damage field instead of circular projectiles.
Reapers getting significant buffs, though we're not sure if it's enough to bring it inline with what we'd expect from a class without the two power boons.
Chronomancer's receiving noticeable buffs to its power dps playstyle. Such as its ultimate Gravity Well having its cool down reduced by a 3rd along with its ratio's being increased.
Mirage is being... nerfed? Restructured? With regards to its weapon identities, where axe will focus on damage and staff will focus on boons, though the nerf to their alacrity duration in tandem with how it's going to be applied now leaves things 'up-in-the-air.'

I like thiefs but i get the feeling they jump more away from the target than to them.
The ranger feels a bit confusing with swords as second weapon jumping around a enemy or away.
Engineer i never tried them really mech looks interesting
Mesmer looks to interesting the two first specs.
I just want a class that go on full ranged or full meele and stays in this area. Any recommendations?

    • @benjaminfast5496
      @benjaminfast5496 Год назад +3

      Light classes:
Necromancer has a good melee option with dagger. It excels at ranged with the staff or scepter. Scepter Necro is easily one of my favourite long range weapons in the game. Axe is alright, but it is IMHO the worst option for Necro.
Mesmer is a ton of fun and one of my favourites. Main hand sword will be your close combat melee and performs really well. Everything else is mid-long range combat. Staff is my favourite, I also enjoy Scepter. For off hand I prefer pistol, but torch/sword/focus are good too.
Elementalist is a very complex class that I wouldn't recommend to a new player. I've been playing a long time and still struggle with it, lol. It's weapons are mostly mid-long range combat and functions differently based on your attunement (which you need to change constantly during combat) and each has new skills that may require your to shift closer to/further from the enemy. Not what you're looking for, lol.
      Medium classes:
Thief can use dual pistols and stay at range. Shortbow as well, but it doesn't feel like smooth combat to me. The close melee, I agree, has you moving around the enemy a lot and can take a while to get the feel of. If you prefer be more stationary, Thief isn't your class.
Engineer is one of my personal favourites (I have 3...). You can have dual pistols, and the only need to get close is for the skill 4 flame torch skill. Rifle is a lot of fun and my weapon of choice for all my Engineers. There's the shield as well, but I hate it. There's a ton of utility skills that allow you to shape the class in a way that works for you. It may be a bit much at first, but once you sync it to your taste, you won't regret it.
Ranger has some great ranged options: Main hand axe, shortbow, longbow. Off-hand torch/warhorn. For close melee you are kind of limited to sword or greatsword. Greatsword can be fun once your get the feel for it. I'd stay away from the sword (I don't like it either). If that's the only weapon you tried before abandoning Ranger, I'd go back to it and play with some other weapons.
      Heavy classes:
Guardian will have a good variety of options. Sword will be your quick melee, hammer is tanky, greatsword is melee but more mobile, mace is close range tanky healer. Long range your get staff/scepter with some nice off hand options. I'd go into details, but I'd suggest just giving the class a try. You won't regret it!
Revenant is another class with great options. Sword and Mace are great close range combat options. Off hand sword and axe are a ton of fun. Staff is strangely a close range healing weapon. It feels fun but also awkward... The long range option is the hammer, strangely. I'm not a fan of it but maybe you will be, lol. I'd recommend this class for closer range stuff.
Warrior is obviously going to provide a ton of options as it has a huge pool of weapons to choose from. Sword, axe, greatsword, mace, etc. Off hand has similar choices that are a lot of fun. For long range you get the rifle and that's about it. It's an alright class, but I find it lacks flavour, lol.
I hope that helps a little bit. I would suggest watching more videos that are specific to each class. Or, you can just try them all out until you find one you like. If you have the expansions, once you reach level 80 you can start to unlock Elite Specializations which provide more weapon options. I wouldn't focus on that yet so you don't get overwhelmed.

    • @fredxu99
      @fredxu99 Год назад

In addition to the other post replying to your comment, I'll list off some of the specific builds from the expansion elite specializations that are a bit easier for a new player to pick up and learn (after you get the gear of course), and can stay strictly within their range or melee playstyle.
      Light armors (Pure Range):
      - Power or Condi Daggercamp Virtuoso (Mesmer). Their daggers are super long-range, great for kiting, even has access to invincibility frames if you really need it.
      - **Condi Scourge (Necro)**. Scepter is a bit shorter range, but you can kite pretty well. Torch is typically used as an offhand, a bit shorter range but huge damage if you can get in for a quick burst. You have tons of shielding from your Scourge profession skills with the sand shroud, really nice for staying alive. Great for a new player.
      Medium armors (Pure Range):
      - Power Rifle Mechanist (Engineer). The mech does a lot of passive damage and you can stay at a huge range and get good DPS. There are couple rifle and grenade kit skills that are shorter range, but the mech is doing most of the damage here.
      Heavy armors (Pure Range):
      - Not really many options here, sadly. The heavy armor classes love their melee weapons.
      Light Armors (Pure Melee):
      - **Power Reaper (Necro)**. One of the easiest builds to play, and very durable, but currently also one of the lower DPS options. Uses greatsword though, as well as a short-ranged weapon in Axe that slings claws. You will spend 95% of your time in melee though.
      Medium armors (Pure Melee):
      - Power Daredevil (Thief). Lots of bouncing around and vaulting with the staff, you'll definitely be charging AT the target with this one. It can be a little bit tricky to get used to, but it's pretty simple to learn and very fun. You do use the dodge for DPS but you have 3 charges so plenty of wiggle room.
      Heavy armors (Pure Melee):
      - **Dualswords Power Herald (Revenant)**. Suuuuuper easy to play, but also a bit lower on the damage side. Most of the damage comes from spamming Sword 1 and Sword 2. Highly, highly recommended for a new player. Plus if you're playing solo, you can give yourself permanent buffs from the Glint legend. Staff on the weaponswap for some extra CC and defensives.
      - Power Vindicator (Revenant). Greatsword camp, also super easy to play, but you'll need to sacrifice your dodge for damage and with only 2 dodge charges.
      - Power Dragonhunter (Guardian). The pure melee setup runs Sword and Greatsword. A bit more difficult to play as it requires you to align your skills in a buff window, but has some VERY high damage burst.
      - Power Spellbreaker (Warrior). A bit iffy because they aren't really a standout DPS option, but I'll recommend it because of how durable it is. You have a lot of weapon options here including Axe, Daggers, Hammer, and Greatsword. Pick your poison, they all do relatively well.

What do you think about the idea that all 9 professions should have access to every role in the game simply by choosing certain traits and weapons? I think it would be great if all professions could be DPS (both Condi or Power), support, or a healer, by choosing the right weapons and traits and maybe also needing to choose one of their elite specs for that role. Lots of changes would be required to make this work, but I think it would be worth the effort.

Aside from warrior and necro, all classes can fill every role (condi/power dps, boondps, boonheal) and even those two are only missing boonheal. down state elementalist is the best dps class with the highest parse out of all of the (down state) dps
also spectre and tempest are fine, if you want to talk about support it'd technically be untamed since it can self-sustain all boons (except like aegis or something) with 50% dmg reduction
6:03, funny enough spellbreaker isn't actually minor, it has 38k parse (w/ hammer) and a 40k+ parse when they fix hammer2's bug, ignoring the sheer factor that it has basically the highest consistent CC in the game (ignoring specter since I think it's higher but you burn all of your dps for it), and you have an absolute power house. Some minor trait changes lets you pick up self-regen as well.
Bladesworn can go quicksworn and have respectable dps, downfall is just CC, also has quickshare through soldier's focus which is why cata was murdered (lol)
8:50 while true, vindicator is also bugged and currently deals more damage due to leap slam using unarmed weapon strength instead of your weapon (SOMETIMES, and also might be vice versa I forgot which), it's easy enough to do the bug that apparently it happens a lot if you're not paying attention.
18:27 condi reaper (or cReaper) for some reason performs way better than pReaper and is usually memed about, also if you technically ignore all the issues that pReaper has (except the damage), you would still have an damage issue, and then when you have all the issues that pReaper has, you have 0 damage, so cReaper isn't actually a meme anymore since pReaper is incredibly broken, not broken op, just broken bad

Issue with GW2 balance is that it's not about the amount of damage a class brings but the amount of boons a class brings. For example, there is never a good reason to bring a mesmer especially after the coming patch. The same issue applies to warriors, elementalists, and revenants. Some classes only have 1 "viable" pve spec such as thief, ranger, and engineer (even if holo gets a buff no good reason to bring one cause no good boons) and some classes are the only real "safe" picks such as necromancer and guardian since the devs only really play these 2 classes. engi mechs are a maybe at best. Simply put, kinda wish boons got gutted in general so it would only really be worth for support specs, deleting boon stacking would be a good start, just saying.

  • @user-xo2og8kv1o

spellbreaker doesnt just have the "potential" for damage, its one of the stronger dps out there. its actually a better dps than alot of other specs youre mentioning. so why are you pushing it in the tank role and tell ppl its dps role is "minor"? might want to research before you make a video giving information to new players :/

    • @KROOF
      @KROOF  Год назад

Minor in the sense that it’s traits, utility skills, and even the profession mechanic really highlight control and defense.
To a newer player it would not be glaringly obvious it was proficient at DPS in the way that Bladesworn or Berserker is constructed.
I never said it was a *bad* DPS, just that it’s overall focus was on more bruiser play styles. Also, it’s a fine DPS, but I don’t believe it’s one of the stronger DPS. Snowcrows does have it as viable but not recommended.

@@KROOF maybe i misunderstood you then, tho it did came across as "this spec is tanky, not a great dps choice"... to me at least.
anyways, its a better dps than berserker and its equally good as soulbeast for example (only 1k below), which is considered one of the stronger dps i believe.
Snowcorws not having it listed as recommended doesnt really do anything. Thats like blindly following and believing a minmax/speed run oriented website, not sure if that makes sense when talking about specs, specially when directed towards newer players, but also in general really. Because, besides not being listed as recommended, numbers do suggest it is one of the stronger dps, its not really an opinion thing, unless you consider less than 1k below soulbeast benchmark is not strong, i guess.
