Chris, I've been watching for years and your channel has inspired me like no other, but lately with the van, and now the dramatic music, I just can't anymore buddy. Good luck to you, no hard feelings. Keep doing you!
Patreon supporter here. Seriously not a fan of the music, although thankfully it wasn't too intrusive. My wife said it best (we watch while having Saturday supper every week). The music impinges on the solitude of the surroundings, which frankly is the number one attraction of the channel for us. As viewers, we love watching these adventures as if we were out there ourselves, with our own soundtracks (or none at all). I'm just glad there are no drone videos, to further take us out of the scene. I want to imagine what it's like to be behind the wheel of that orange JK, lockers engaged, swaybar disconnected, traversing a primitive 2-track in a part of the country that would otherwise take me 14 days of drive to get to and from. I love the visuals but the sounds of nature are the best sountrack.
@@shouldibehere it's funny how chris likes all his positive comments, never the negative. Be a man of the people, acknowledge your recent shortfalls and let the audience know you are messing up. Channel is heading to sub 10k views weekly. Used to be 50k+
Im going to jump in on it also Chris. I have watched your videos since varnishing the goose gear in the grean house. Its been amazing, so dont go overlaying music now please! 🙏🏻
love your videos, with most respect, not a fan of the music…you already have a great style, music not an add you need. Thank you for all the great adventure you share
Lol Chris, I'm glad you're addressing the toilet in the room. Cheer up buddy, it's hot and miss, you win some you lose some. Keep on learning and growing. Love you cinematography.
Just my opinion, so please dont take it the wrong way. I’m not a fan of the music. I liked that your channel was a stript down and focussed on locations and didnt make things out to be gradiose beyond what they reaaly are. Most RUclipsrs overlay epic music onto their videos to give the illusion of more than someone simply driving their vehicle down a dirt road. Its not an epic adventure if you step out of your vehicle and you are wearing flip flops just to showcase your gear or product your paid to advertise. Not that you do, but some of these RUclipsrs do.
Great video with the addition of music and the visuals of the Sonoran desert Saguaros cactus is incredible. Building upon the content establishing your channel reveals your content evolution. Roll safe.😊
A few thoughts on what is happening right now: > you now put musics in your videos > you seemingly lowered the framerate in some shots to get a more "cinematic" look > please for the love of good, don't change everything what fans love about your channel (e.g. the lack of music) > right now, I feel in every episode you take one more element away that made your channel outstanding > you're maybe trying to remodel your channel to a new audience, but you might lose your old viewers and that might not be a good idea > maybe talk about the changes and what the direction of this channel is going to be, so the old timers and the base of your viewers here don't feel ignored
Thanks for the info and clarification of these two GPS apps. We have neither but are considering the use of one. We liked what music was playing on this particular video, there wasn't much; sometimes a channel will play something that doesn't fit at all and then we turn the sound off, missing out on the "wheeling" sounds. I've seen a couple of videos that had no speaking, either. I think one of them might have been a recent one of yours. That can be nice too. 'Given a choice we'd opt for no music. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Thank you for your comment. This was my first time using music in a “normal” weekly V4WD video. It was kind of an experiment, I’m enjoying trying new things. I also really like the natural sounds; for this one, the desert was SO quiet and still it needed a little “something.” You can certainly bet I won’t be using loud/abrasive music any time soon!!!
Thanks for talking about X Offroad. You have a ton of knowledge with the different GPS apps and I've been thinking about X Offroad. Very well explained.
I use both Gaia and OnX. I find OnX shows the Offroad routes better and use that most when I'm traveling in the field. Gaia is good for route planning at home.
You're making me homesick for the desert. I was born and raised in the Sonoran desert. There's no other place like it on Earth. My favorite overlay on Gaia GPS is the historical topo maps as it will show old mine and ghost town locations that are no longer on any modern maps.
Chris I’ve watched every one of your videos, I discovered you when you’d visited Thurmond WV years ago… Your photography techniques are excellent and I love watching them as I learn from you (photography being another of my (too many) interests)... Why not simply transition into an off-road back country photography channel rather than the weekly advertising videos of late.
I appreciate your kind words. To be clear - I have never done a sponsored post. I as simply giving my opinion about a product (OnX) that I see gaining a lot of traction.
@@venture4wd Unbiased opinions and detailed reviews of practical products such as OnX are helpful to me. Your review/tutorial of Gaia a few years ago was appreciated by me when I first started using it.
Now I am wondering about a sponsored overland trip to A Bucket List C&S destination of choice. Ireland has some awesome views. Also heard Bhutan opened up some closed trekking areas recently. Be Well tfs
Venture4wd has inspired me so much over the last 4 years. Unfortunately I feel like everything that made this channel and Chris different is all but gone when the van was introduced. No disrespect at all but I feel like the venture4wd experience all but gone in a sense. I’ll 100 percent keep watching to support a great human but what brought me here originally is no more. The addition of music was the tipping point for me personally. Keep it up though Chris you are an inspiration to many.
I'll second this sentiment exactly. Chris is an exceptional photographer/videographer. I've always thought he should sell his photography. Loved Venture4wd the adventures and for the lack of music. I wonder how much more of Arizona we can see. Will still tune in every Saturday.
Ill third that comment, I thought I clicked on the wrong video when the music started. I still go back and watch the older videos where dinners were grilled sandwiches and spam. The simplicity is gone and now I feel like this video blends with every other video... still a great person, I just lost the interest unfortunately.
It's hard to blame Chris for making the change. Living alone for five years has to get old. My hope is he's gearing up for a six month roundabout throughout North America in Orangey. But wouldn't be surprised if this is the new normal. An acknowledgement of that would be nice though, if it's true. P.S. He's the second channel I've seen start pushing OnX hard. The other was Lifestyle Overland. Is OnX doing this or is something going wrong with Gaia? Lifestyle Overland said they had issues, but didn't say in what way. Anyone got any ideas?
Hi Chris I'm coming over from the UK in my land rover 110 starting in Halifax Canada in two weeks time ,my be we could hit some trails together sometime later in the year, I promise to make you camping pizza 😎.
Did On X sponsor this? You’ve given reviews before, but always noted that you were not sponsored and just offering insight. It’s one of the reasons I trust your perspective. I might have missed that here, so I thought I’d ask so you can make that clear to everyone.
Like some of the other comments, I'm not much a fan of music being used. What set your channel apart from others was just the sounds of nature. That being said, what is the name of the "rolling piano" piece used in this clip?
I’ve been watching Chris since he was a zygote! How dare he change anything! In fact anything beyond an old Wal-Mart shopping cart, his old camping stove, the folding toilet, and a iPhone 4 duct taped to a broomstick is excessive! I so angry right now! Now back to shaking my fist at the sky!
so.....Gaia if you plan on hiking? I tried on x a few years ago and it was fairly useless to me on the east coast. Ive been paying for Gaia for a few years and its mostly good, great for hiking.
Yes I’ve had a few mice. Don’t take any real precautions, personally. I usually hear them in the first night or two and manage to shoo them away very quickly. So far no particular wiring damage!
What I haven't seen much was you purposely using your drone to scout out an unknown location or looking for overnight camping. Do you use your drone for unknown exploring? Or am I just missing those scenes OR too old to remember? ..lol
Totally understand... Part 107 Drone License isn't cheap, although I haven't taken it either, it appears to be somewhat in depth learning for a drone pilot license. Not sure if I want to put in the time; money or effort at this time. Going professional drone pilot involves committing to higher standards with higher civil liabilities and in most cases being bondable and insured. And the FAA FINES are out of this world. Being a Certified 107 Pilot "all one's excuses go out the window".. Thanks Chris travel on!
Another vote to cancel the music, I want to hear nature, the rocks crushing underneath the tires, the wind through the trees. the crunch of cheetos in your mouth.
Hey Chris, here’s my thoughts on music… As an intro, nop. It’s like changing intro for Star Trek or Star Wars. Inside, I have less of an issue if it’s not every time (maybe for the Wanabago?) but the engine sound and tires on the gravel road is part of your signature. My 2🪙
Hey Chris I think you have enough of exploration in the us and North America now it’s time to go over sea maybe to Africa taking your orangy will be a big challenge for you and your followers as well there a lot of places to explore along with knowing peoples traditions and way of living
Chris has settled in southern Arizona, for better or worse… My wife and I lived in Pima County for five and a half years before leaving the state. Lots of reasons, but here’s a few examples; (1) Poor medical community, doctors do not follow Medicare guidelines and get fined because of it. My wife had one doctor fired due to Medicare fraud… (2) Pima County Sheriffs Deputies do not follow the laws, preferring to rewrite them to suite the situation. They’re rude and condescending to the public, threatened my wife a couple of times. On one occasion she’d called into the Sheriffs office for some information but during the conversation the officer started snoring as he’d fallen asleep in the middle of the day… (3) Maricopa County is just as bad. They think it’s still the wild west and they can do as they please. (4) People are argumentative over any little thing, I’m thinking it’s the heat that’s fried their brains… (5) Drivers as well as law enforcement do not know rules of the road. No one yields upon entering a freeway instead everyone on the freeway has to erratically avoid oncoming vehicles… I’m actually surprised we made it as long as we did living there. It’s a very strange place to live. We’ll probably never go back, just too much wrong. We’re much happier in New Mexico, the people are so much nicer, police don’t harass you, and it’s not nearly as hot… Chris my best advice would be to leave Arizona ASAP.
First it was an advertisement for an overpriced toilet, then "let me do some photography for you", and now another advertisement. It's not looking good
One of the main things I liked about this channel was it’s not using music
I agree. Music is usually annoying.
One of the joys i had in watching your videos was the lack of music. Please let this one video be the only venture4wd video with music.
