The slow-and-steady approach to balance changes targeting the meta might be a bit frustrating in the moment, but will probably lead to better and healthier balance in the long run.
They're not being careful, they just have a heavy anti-nerf mindset and the priority of shooter viablity in mind, which has been an issue since Splatoon 2. They're never careful with buffs for example. Just remember that Stinger was turned from the by far worst into the by far best special in a single patch and Triple Ink Strike got an insanely overtuned buff as well. It's the reason Splatoon 2's meta was worse at the end than what it started with. No doubt Splatoon 3 is going in the same direction so far.
Depending on how "Drastic" the map changes are, Crab could either be still dominant or Mildly nerfed. I'm praying for the maps to change for the better
Some people mentioned to me that Mincemeat could get the car kebab from the tricolour layout to protect the truck and right side, so HOPEFULLY that's the case on Mincemeat (and a ramp, block or something to get up on the right side PLEASE)
I think the devs wanna see where current crab lands with all the map changes and giving it new counters before they touch it directly. I think a crab nerf is inevitable, but it seems they really wanna make sure they adjust it the correct way before anything else.
The notes specifying that the map changes are focusing on adding cover and preventing backliners (and to a certain extent Crab) from being able to kill you on the spot due to the lack of flank routes gives me hope
I can agree with you here because I play mostly more aggro weapons like the splatanas, I hate getting lazered from across the stage and not being able to safely approach.
It said nothing of flank routes. Just "terrain." In fact, there were 3 specials that were getting fixed (reefslider crab tank and one other) from splatting through _thin_ terrain. I suspect this fix will be for this type of terrain specifically because there will be more of it. I'm not expecting entire flank routes. Would be great, of course, but I hope to be proven wrong.
its actually ridiculous how eliters can snipe you from their base to your own (looking at you, mincemeat) even other backliners that dont have as much range suffer from the maps
My biggest fear with the map changes is that it ends up being stuff like one block or glass pane added (I'm exaggerating, but you see my point) The map adjustments could be huge, but that could also be incredibly underwhelming, and I don't want to jinx it but I have a bad feeling about this.

Honestly, The early start to the new Fresh Season is looking like a massive W. It’s also funny how the special changes are like “you see that crab around the corner?” “Yeah, but we can’t deal with it effectively” “well my children, come closer to me, and I shall give you the means to 2 or 1 shot that crab”
Me personally, I really enjoy the fact that the devs have been focusing on making the other specials better than crab instead of nerfing crab to the point of unrecognizability, it gives the meta a unique choice of now choosing which crab counter to run
I agree, but still think crab deserves to see nerfs. Having no end-lag when getting destroyed should absolutely not be a thing, crab users deserve to be punished if their 500hp tank gets destroyed. On top of that, a small range nerf would not hurt as it's seriously oppressive for too long against most weapons the way it is now.
but we shouldn’t have to decide what weapons to run based solely on one busted ass special attached to a busted ass weapon, this special is straight up a problem and creating counters to it is good but that isn’t going to change the fact that it’s unbearably oppressive
i see your perspective but the fact that the meta revolves around killing a single special is incredibly unhealthy and the best option is just to make crab worse
I just hope the stage changes won't be too bad for long-range weapons. I get that chargers are oppressive, but I'm a splatling main, so I really, really hope that I can still find a good place to set up and support my team.
The drvs went from one extreme of frequent drastic buffs and nerfs to the other extreme of the occasional slight buff or nerf. It's honestly kind of funny since the 2 best and most common ways to balance games are the in betweens of those, frequent slight changes and the occasional drastic changes.
What i’m really interested in is the map changes being made, I wonder if it will end up indirectly nerfing weapons like eliter or crab tank. Really interesting to see what happens (hoping for flank routes)
It should be noted that since object shredder gives a 30% damage buff against crab tank that Trizooka will now one shot a crab tank with object shredder if it gets a direct hit, and overall I do appreciate the devs trying to buff more rather than nerf more, but at the same time if these changes don't have enough of an impact to put crab in a good state then direct nerfs might need to be the next step

Ultra Stamp being able to one shot Crab with the throw and 2 shot with the rush attack is huge, especially since both the Crab and Stamp have huge hurtboxes/hitboxes, meaning you can either rush in against Crab while your teammates distract it, demolishing it and the player inside in 2/3 hits, or canceling Ultra Stamp early to effectively cancel Crab or punish the Crab user after the special ends

You're quite fast making these videos every time an update or a bit of Splatoon news was revealed. That's what we like. Anyway, I'm getting a feeling the Crab Tank will now be a lot more risky to use after the Trizooka (which I love), the Ink Jet and the Ultra Stamp got buffed. Let's see how this goes from here.
I actually really like this change. I think these changes are the devs testing out how to balance (do we make the other specials better at dealing with crab, or do we nerf it) crab instead of just nerfing it a bit or over nerfing it which I think is good. I don't like Zap and aerospray getting special reductions as I feel we are getting back into spam meta. All I hope is that nintendo will have an update where every shooter has a special gauge of at least 200p. Anything under that amount isn't good. I am also a bit disappointed that they didn't buff these specials in a way to make them better in general. Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy that crab will be easier to deal with, but I still hate that ultra stamp is going to be canceled by shooting it from the front. I just want to be able to pop my stamper and go crazy and not get killed in the one way that shouldn't be possible. Also, I hate that there were no changes to brella. I'm pretty sure I haven't seen a brella player in like 4 months. I'm also excited about the map changes. I really hope this will help maps feel more open and less compact. I'm also excited for everything new that is going to be added. I also hope that they do monthly updates (besides the seasonal update), which is just balance patches, so that way we don't have to go through around a month and a half of a hell meta.
Amazing video, thanks for summing everything up for everyone watching! I'm so happy to see how much you've grown since I saw you start out with around 5k subs, still producing my favorite splatoon content :D, keep it up chara, have a great day
3:29 soooooooo about that it just seems to be a few signs and blocks that will be added no new flank routes so... yeah double Crab might still be a thing
I hope hammerhead gets the flanks to mid I want. It always feels like I should be able to jump across to far court but all I can do is throw torpedos and hope for the best lol
I pray to God they're actually adding flank routes. My long time favourite class has always been roller but they've all been indirectly nerfed in this game thanks to not really having flank routes
I hope that at the very least the maps getting changes in all modes means they’re getting major overhauls, aka flank routes and cover. Please Nintendo i main roller and luna I’m suffering.
Part of me almost feels like the devs are trying to apply rock-paper-scissors logic to Crab VS Inkjet + Stamp VS the rest of Splatoon 3, which is hilarious
I hope the map changes are good, though I am a bit concerned considering that the only versions of Mahi that they're changing are the ones that are actually somewhat fine (Turf and Zones), they're not touching the worse versions of Mahi.
Trizooka buff against crab just made it even easier to handle splash as a squeezer. I love the crab meta drama because splash’s already provide zero problems for my archetype. Wall is just a bait for crab and burst bombs. If they come close they get outranged and if a teammate is nearby thats easy pickings. Zooka getting the 20% damage buff means not even crab should be unaproachable. Depending how many shots needed to bust crab, it could just be a straight counterpick. Honestly, its gonna be hard to get rid of the vanilla squeezer once it gets a bomb. Its hard to readjust after being accustomed to ink wall.
I'm bummed we don't have an alternate squeezer kit. I love squeezer, and trizooka is great, I just don't get along with wall. It just doesn't feel good on squeezer for me personally. At least my beloved L3 is getting a burst bomb
A part of me doesn't want the maps to change but the other does. Cuz now we gotta relearn probably good chunks and strategies in the stage even at a casual level. I know crab meta and current stage design also affects casual play but I feel like they're gonna change these maps very substantially. Or maybe they'll add one sponge thats jt
I hope with faster patches we start seeing mid-season content updates that at least add new weapon kits, since the current output just isn’t enough and leads to players getting bored and burnt out quickly after mid season
As a Wiper main, very happy with the Ultra Stamp buff against Crab. Still not the best at actually using it, but at least now I have a real reason to get better at my hammer throws against this freaking crustacean.
I think they were just waiting to do weapon adjustments until after the new ones release so they don't have two separate changes, but I'm really hoping that the map changes are actually significant
So happy for the map changes, honestly better than any crab or splash changes in my opinion. It’s funny how the only two Mahi layouts that actually looked like the s1 version are getting changed. Still happy for the changes thoug
Mhmm, BNB Brellas Need Buffs I personally dislike the point for special reductions (insert Splatoon 2 special spam flashback here) but as long as they’re not on anything that can paint (90% of the shooter class + Big Swig) for a special like Crab, Stamp, Zooka, or Booyah Bomb (curse you Gold AeroSpray!), I’m… alright with it

@@KazanmaTheSilverWind adding 10p (180p -> 190p) isn’t that bad of a nerf unless the special is already expensive or if the weapon it’s on can’t paint (Range Blaster or Splatterscope for example, would be hit incredibly hard by a 10p increase, while something like N-Zap or Splattershot wouldn’t be hit as hard) Reducing a special cost by 10p is alright on its own, but when it happens multiple times you risk giving that weapon a special spam playstyle (especially if it’s a shooter), which isn’t fun in any way unless you’re the one spamming specials and is one of the reasons Splatoon 2’s meta was so hated
@@FelineDeskFan13 so the main reason the initial Tenta nerfs were basically nothing was bc it was on weapons like Flingza & Reeflux that could already paint really well I mean i'd take it over hearing multiple shooters in 2 had tenta missiles but makes sense At least with Cooler it seems there's a bit of a delay before you can get another one. I don’t want to be a downer but it said they’re changing the impact of long ranged weapons on stages there’s unfortunately not going to be added flanks
@@Jack_Spl3 we literally have no way of knowing yet. Long ranged weapons would be impacted by the addition of flanks. So it's a possibility even though I know it's unlikely.
@@FortyTwoBlades exactly more interesting for both the flankers and for me, which is why I’m praying they don’t put random stuff in our way but add additional flank routes. Also mahi mahi sucks for everyone including chargers so anything they can change is good.
While criticism and disappointment is obviously always fair, I think a lot of people on Twitter and such are misrepresenting what this patch is. The dev team has most likely just spent much of their time and resources on DLC Wave 1, Fresh Season AND all the map changes they've done so far. The former two had a set release date and were time sensitive, so they obviously had to put bigger focus on making them work well over balance patches. They also put a lot of effort into said map changes and bug fixes this update. Taking all this into account (plus what the patch notes said about the next update being sooner than usual), nobody should be surprised that direct balance patches are minimal. As players we might say "well just make splash's points for special 210, or lower crab's range, or give jet more health, etc. - it should take no time at all right? just changing a variable." But as developers they presumably need to have multiple people on the team test each change, make sure it works, make sure it doesn't cause any bugs itself, make sure it does help with power balance in the way they want, etc. This patch very much reads to me like a message of "we hear you, but give us a bit more time - we need to get the deadlined content out before focusing on comp balance." After all Splatoon is primarily a game enjoyed by casual players and, while they might be sick of seeing Splash in so many Anarchy matches, the addition of Kraken or new gear will be WAY more obvious and a way bigger draw to people than a Splash nerf, so *of course* it takes less priority.
The devs are definitely going with the “let’s buff everything else before we actually start on the nerfs” approach. I’m feeling like they have to absolutely make sure the other weapons/specials aren’t the problem before starting to nerf crab.
This is legit ten times more hype than the Pokémon Direct. Those random boxes that are gonna be placed around the maps will have a monumental impact on this game’s future, not even joking. Plus Big Swig meta.
Honestly, i don't like how they just solely make some buffs just to counter things, rather than making that special, sub, or main weapon better in a general way. Like if ultra stamp had proper front coverage Or if ink jet had more ways to not die or just- any special that requires you to get close have better ways to not die.
I appreciate how careful the devs are being regarding balance… but am also incredibly annoyed by it
The slow-and-steady approach to balance changes targeting the meta might be a bit frustrating in the moment, but will probably lead to better and healthier balance in the long run.

Yeah, they need to give some love to the brellas.
Logi has a great taste for the music in the videos
Love me some Redial, your music choices lately have been on point for these videos.
Amazing video, thanks for summing everything up for everyone watching! I'm so happy to see how much you've grown since I saw you start out with around 5k subs, still producing my favorite splatoon content :D, keep it up chara, have a great day
What I am predicting for Wahoo world is that it will have the same layout as the zones. No more retractable floors, hopefully.
Kind of wild to me that the only version of Mahi getting changed is Zones which was like the only one that isnt completely terrible
3:29 soooooooo about that it just seems to be a few signs and blocks that will be added no new flank routes so... yeah double Crab might still be a thing
Imagine the change for Mahi is just putting it back to its splat 1 form
I forsee a lot of bumpers put into random locations and that's about it. Also...inkjet wanted so much more than a buff against crab.
This man is probably the only person who makes east to understand videos, gets straight to the point, and goes over all that is needed.
I can't overstate how lovely is your choice of soundtrack
I LOVE TEKKEN
0:45 Careful with those numbers! Multiplying by 2.5 and 3 is an increase of 150% and 200% respectively, not 250% and 300% like you said here.
Inkjet 2 shotting crab now is insane
I hope that at the very least the maps getting changes in all modes means they’re getting major overhauls, aka flank routes and cover. Please Nintendo i main roller and luna I’m suffering.
The devs balancing the game is like your playing Jenga with a guy that takes 7 minutes to pull out the block everytime.
Part of me almost feels like the devs are trying to apply rock-paper-scissors logic to Crab VS Inkjet + Stamp VS the rest of Splatoon 3, which is hilarious
True, Stamp and Inkjet are going to be good against Crab, at least in theory, but will probably still suck against everything else.
I hope the map changes are good, though I am a bit concerned considering that the only versions of Mahi that they're changing are the ones that are actually somewhat fine (Turf and Zones), they're not touching the worse versions of Mahi.
What are the worst versions of Mahi Mahi Resort?
@@stripedrajang3571 Like, basically the other 3 ranked modes lol.
@@legoboy7107 watching people fall into TC mahi's water in mid is never not funny
At least my beloved L3 is getting a burst bomb
kinda funny how they only focused on mahi mahi turf war and splat zones, which were definitely less problematic than the 3 other modes
Hey Chara, maybe next time it’s probably fine to just wait until the patch actually goes live to see the changes in action.
Pole Expansion 💈💈💈💈💈‼️‼️‼️‼️
So happy for the map changes, honestly better than any crab or splash changes in my opinion. It’s funny how the only two Mahi layouts that actually looked like the s1 version are getting changed. Still happy for the changes thoug
we dont even know map changed yet
Music is such a vibe thus vid :))))
If we get Brellas to function, I'm okay with this
Mhmm, BNB
Brellas
Need
Buffs
I personally dislike the point for special reductions (insert Splatoon 2 special spam flashback here) but as long as they’re not on anything that can paint (90% of the shooter class + Big Swig) for a special like Crab, Stamp, Zooka, or Booyah Bomb (curse you Gold AeroSpray!), I’m… alright with it
@@FelineDeskFan13 This is my first splat game so Idk exactly how drastic 10p is as a buff or a nerf. But I play N-Zap so i'm not too bummed
Okay I play Cooler weapons, I switched from Dapple to N-Zap. Really excited for the Tri Slosher Nouveau
But Splat Brella was the first weapon I loved the feel of... until I get into a fight, then it feels like an uphill battle.
I heard brellas in s2 3.0 were great, i'd like to see that again. Sure it wouldn't helo much vs Crab (outside of Tenta deploy) but I'll take anything at this point
@@KazanmaTheSilverWind adding 10p (180p -> 190p) isn’t that bad of a nerf unless the special is already expensive or if the weapon it’s on can’t paint (Range Blaster or Splatterscope for example, would be hit incredibly hard by a 10p increase, while something like N-Zap or Splattershot wouldn’t be hit as hard)
Reducing a special cost by 10p is alright on its own, but when it happens multiple times you risk giving that weapon a special spam playstyle (especially if it’s a shooter), which isn’t fun in any way unless you’re the one spamming specials and is one of the reasons Splatoon 2’s meta was so hated
@@FelineDeskFan13 so the main reason the initial Tenta nerfs were basically nothing was bc it was on weapons like Flingza & Reeflux that could already paint really well
I mean i'd take it over hearing multiple shooters in 2 had tenta missiles but makes sense
At least with Cooler it seems there's a bit of a delay before you can get another one. Do -10p on something like gold aero and... let's not go there actually, gold aero in turf war is funny til i have to deal with it
@@KazanmaTheSilverWind yeah, that sums it up pretty well.
Yeah, Gold Aero getting -10p would probably break Turf War. That thing should be like 210p imo (while Forge Pro should be 180 or 190p, but Nintendo hates letting a Splattershot Pro get Booyah Bomb for some reason considering they’ve done this twice now ;-;)
I hope mid season give more crab nerfs
Is that a FF14 meme in my Splatoon video? 10/10
need brella buffs so bad
I am PRAYING for flanks.
As an eliter main I’d rather have new flanks than random walls blocking my face.
@@novinovi- it makes for more interesting dynamics compared to static cover.
@@FortyTwoBlades exactly more interesting for both the flankers and for me, which is why I’m praying they don’t put random stuff in our way but add additional flank routes. Also mahi mahi sucks for everyone including chargers so anything they can change is good.
FFXIV jumpscare… the crab tank didn’t show hole 😔
Bomberman background music 😍
I think this will start a new meta and I only thought of 3 weapons to be apart of the meta
•Splash
•Neo-Splash
•Kraken roller
I hope they don't just add more cover but instead focus on adding more flank routes and interesting options
I swear if they just dropped some blocks or bumpers I’m going to be in so much pain traversing through them
While criticism and disappointment is obviously always fair, I think a lot of people on Twitter and such are misrepresenting what this patch is.
- it should take no time at all right? just changing a variable."
But as developers they presumably need to have multiple people on the team test each change, make sure it works, make sure it doesn't cause any bugs itself, make sure it does help with power balance in the way they want, etc.
This patch very much reads to me like a message of "we hear you, but give us a bit more time - we need to get the deadlined content out before focusing on comp balance."
After all Splatoon is primarily a game enjoyed by casual players and, while they might be sick of seeing Splash in so many Anarchy matches, the addition of Kraken or new gear will be WAY more obvious and a way bigger draw to people than a Splash nerf, so *of course* it takes less priority.
Honestly i think sometimes ppl expect too much to happen when we still have two more years of updates to go
0:36 I like the FFXIV reference lol
as a Splash main myself, I don't mind these changes at all. Also very excited for the map changes!
I can't believe it, we should've known, the meta has evolved into crabs, just like everything else will, it's unavoidable.
i watched your video on map changes and went “nahhh, no way they’re just gonna change All the maps in updates” i ate my words and im so happy for it
The devs are definitely going with the “let’s buff everything else before we actually start on the nerfs” approach. I’m feeling like they have to absolutely make sure the other weapons/specials aren’t the problem before starting to nerf crab.
Two editors, two Crab.
We were all so hopeful for the stage reworks... Yeah, they basically did nothing lol. Great reworks
Literally every special has gotten a buff against Crab, LMAO
omg i can’t wait for the stage changes
1:44 They messed up the patch notes for Stinger, it's actually going from 200p to 190p and NOT 190p to 180p
i just want undercover buffed, please nimtendo make the funny umbrella usable
This is legit ten times more hype than the Pokémon Direct. Those random boxes that are gonna be placed around the maps will have a monumental impact on this game’s future, not even joking.
Plus Big Swig meta.
It’s crazy to me that Splash still hasn’t been nerfed.
Honestly, i don't like how they just solely make some buffs just to counter things, rather than making that special, sub, or main weapon better in a general way.
Like if ultra stamp had proper front coverage
Or if ink jet had more ways to not die
or just- any special that requires you to get close have better ways to not die.
How is this a ProChara video. He didn't even talk about the Brella fixes!
Yo, they gave my kit, the Tri-Stringer, a buff! Wooooo!
BIG SWIG PLAYERS STAY WINNING
I swear to god every single person on youtube plays XIV and puts memes in their videos about it. It's incredible. Please continue.
I'm just hoping Nintendo lets me use amiibo to get extra songs on the jukebox. I NEED to hear Bomb Rush Blush while matchmaking.
I can't wait for the stage changes and to see what nintendo did
I'm glad they're leaving mako rain untouched that's my favorite map mode combination
