Easily the best ending we could possibly get. They need to redesign all the terrible maps like Mahi and Hammerhead and actually make them like their splatoon 1 maps.

Probably the hardest copium I've seen on this channel. The devs have made it clear that they never want to go back to S1 map design. Maps like Robo Romen are probably the best we can get. I'm not saying that's a good thing, and I'd like further reworks as well. But people thinking the devs will dramatically change the maps after all the reworks we have gotten so far, is bordering on delusional.
Here's some editing lore for you all since I've seen a lot of appreciation for the editing style of this video: - When this video was originally scripted, double bubble wasn't really a proven thing yet. It was mentioned in the short-range special spam category, so we originally had the *three* potential futures, and I was scheming to have this video be Fire Emblem: Three Houses themed (annoyingly right after all the music got taken down on RUclips). However, has double bubble grew in popularity, it then became the Ashen Wolves route, until eventually we decided to pivot to having *four* futures and so the FE3H theming didn't work out - This video was edited between me and Cookie. I mainly thought through the theming on this video (background colors, music, intro edit, etc.) while Cookie handled the mask designs. Neither Cookie nor Chara had played Majora's Mask so it took some convincing but I think it came out really well :) - Originally I wanted to have the video go in order of the areas of MM (Swamp, Mountain, Bay, Canyon) and the masks would be either loosely based on story masks in that order or mainly based on other masks. However, Cookie COOKED with the mask designs, which forced us to change the order of the video. There being no Goron Mask was kind of just a funny side effect of the masks he picked - Snowhead doesn't really have any standout bangers for music, so even originally I was just planning on using boss music for that section. In planning, the Fierce Diety Dive mask would have gone in the Ikana-colored section to represent the end of the game. However, once Cookie came out with the Squeezer Gibdo mask, I knew that had to go with the Ikana theming, and since the Fierce Diety mask only works in boss battles, I decided to pivot that to the Snowhead-themed section, which kind of ended up becoming more of a boss-themed section :P
No, because we would have splatoon 1 dynamo roller all over again. If you don’t remember or don’t know how that was, it was basically just swing and you can drop people like flies. It also made spawn camping easier on maps like kelp dome with the insane amount of range it had.

Having a meta that's a game of tag between the different team comps and its counters would be pretty dope. Dive teams sound super exciting, and having more weapon classes make appearances in tournaments is always great for the game, cause it means even the people who specialize in a single class can get a chance at the spotlight (with the right team).
I think we could see a "rock paper scissors" type of meta, where Dive beats short range special spam, short range special spam beats double bubble, double bubble beats dive, and midline fighting does OK against everything.
LOVE this breakdown!! I really like how you differentiated that a Frontline meta would feel different from S2 as well as how much different tournament footage was used SO excited for the late game this patch : )
The fifth ending: Quad gold Aerospray. Thanks to booyah slightly charging your teammates' meters; paired with how many booyahs a SINGLE Gaero can dish out, even without a single point in SC. The sheer oppressive force of quad Gaero spreads like wildfire across the meta. Dropping the bit and being more realistic; I could seriously see double or triple booyah bomb as an actually viable strategy
I don't think booyah will be a major contendor for good special, not necessarily because it's bad, but more so because almost all the weapons that have it are bad or mediocre. Aerospray is a meme weapon, Gloogas aren't bad but are one of the most limited fighting weapons in the game, Pro is the most just okay weapon in the game, Hydra is a competetively unviable main weapon. The only ones I could see use are machine and Sblast, but both of those also have problems of their own, Machine struggles vs dive and Sblash struggles vs midline, and neither would spam it enough to make it one of the comp's main retake specials.

I'm glad to see the Splatoon 3 meta this late in the game feeling diverse and experimental, and hopefully this means that even if the meta starts to settle, it doesn't end with anything being too dominant. It's a really nice change of pace from how things were this time 2 years ago where the competitive meta had already managed to become very stagnant around a very small pool of options.
This video was absolutely needed for me at the moment since I am building 2 teams right now that have very different playstyles. This helped me to realize that I'm not completely doomed with either of the comps I've been running with both of the teams

I love the majora’s mask theme, I personally think dive is the best. Like you said, it’s the hardest, but I think hard usually means healthy, and dive looks super fun. Plus, I have weapons in all 4 categories.
Note that the single game that pndr took in the finals was on flounder where the dapple dualies would not stop reef sliding into the enemy zone and dying. The final game where the other team Just Picked 52 and splattershot was not close so I have my doubts about mines working outside of very specific circumstances.

i know NOTHING about the splatoon competitive scene, but i felt myself getting excited at the mention of the carbon roller deco in the "dive" section... i just like carbon roller a... normal amount
I think double zipcaster if ran with a lot of special charge could happen. It would probably be stamper and slosher deco. Slosher can get a lot of zipcaster and works really well either way stamper. This can also make it so they can create a crossfire anywhere in the map.
The four (plus one) directions is somewhat ideal. A game with this many weapons is supposed to have have many options that have their give and takes. Sure rando play being whatever is one thing, but to see high level play shake out like that is delightful.
It’s REALLY cool to see dualies on the rise, even DAPPLES getting a major W. I’m kinda biased but anything that lets my personal favourite class thrive is great to see. (Now if only Gloogas can get proven, summoning JP Glooga mains pls)
I think as of rn there isn't really a better playstyle & if so it still can be beaten by other styles because i did alot of testing at midlvl myself against different types of comps & things are proving to be right atleast in mid lvl areas

Problematic short range gets strong buffs -> Players: its fine they can get literally anything because they struggle against problematic mid ranges. Also players: these mid lines are overtuned. Mid lines get nerfed, short range weapons are extrememly problematic now because of buffs. Players: Suprised pikachu face Who could have seen this coming?
Fifth ending : the horrors : tenta missiles becomes competitively viable again.

Players: its fine they can get literally anything because they struggle against problematic mid ranges.
Also players: these mid lines are overtuned.
Mid lines get nerfed, short range weapons are extrememly problematic now because of buffs.
