The scene with the infected emerging from the underground was scary as hell, especially the bloater, and the fight against them was far more intense than it was in the game

the horde and the bloater coming out caught me off guard, imagine thats what the leader was hiding back in the city when something was trying to dig out of the ground
They explained in the episode that the military that was in control of the city drove all the infected underground... the episode before had foreshadowing when they came across ground that was moving and they looked terrified at the sight... they knew the infected were getting closer to escaping.
The deviation from the game making Sam deaf using sign language between the brothers nice touch

This episode hit hard, never played the game so not knowing the outcome makes it more impactful
The sniper scene was a cool gameplay moment for sure but the chaos in the show was just absolutely awesome, one of the more obvious benefits of TV vs. trying to replicate that in a game without hitting 10 fps
The death of Sam was the most emotional part of the episode.🥺

IMO… it’s nice when the general public is shown why one side of the population plays video games. Video games are the crème de la crème of modern entertainment.

no it isnt, u could argue it hits harder even tho we know whats gonna happen, cuz its different. henry in the game seemed pretty conscious of what he did and why he did it, in the show he seemed to have done it out of impulse like his body knew what it had to do but his mind didnt reconcile with that.
It’s better when you have played the game, forgot how that arc ended and remembered while watching this episode 😢

In the game, he was a lot more emotional after killing Sam. Don't get me wrong the actor who played Henry in the show did a phenomenal job but it hit harder for me in the game just with the background music and Henry's acting .

He faced away from her so that he wouldn't know she was there when he turned. Since he was deaf the only way he'd know she was there and kill her was if he could see her.

they said it was to make him more dependent on his brother which gives the death more impact. if you look up "the last of us inside the episode - 5" they talk more about it

the thing that impresses me most about the show is its ability to adapt the gameplay sections into television, the main examples being the way he fights the clickers in ep2 and the sniping scene in ep5. when you play the game you might think running around a corner after being in a 3 minute gun fight would make the enemies lose you but in the show they make the way the gameplay flows translate very well into this format.

The scene in the game was better imo, the way Henry reacted was more dramatic.
nah fam, u wyldin. two different takes entirely and the one in the show is more dramatic for sure. Henry in the game seemed pretty conscious on what he had to do and why he had to do it, however this Henry seemed to act on impulse, like his body knew what he had to do but his mind didnt reconcile with it. both hit the mark that they are trying to hit.
In my opinion, the show rushed things a bit
@@ishmenigga it was rushed cuz it didnt have 2hrs of action gameplay in the middle of it? u do understand that not all gameplay sequences translate well to film or a show, right? it was perfectly paced, theres only 4 episodes left and we still need to get to David, to Tommy and then the hospital. so, what type of pacing exactly were u expecting?
@@horacionivar2869 Both the character interactions and the scenario in which Henry shot his brother felt hurried. The game genuinely moved me to tears.
The game felt a lot more emotional for example how Henry was trembling after shooting Sam and he uses his other hand to stabilize the gun just before taking his own life. Hit harder for me imo

Hard to make a comparison when it deviates so much from the original. We never really got a Bill and Frank's backstory in the game. Just some letters you can find.
This is one part of the story where the TV show is better than how the game did it.
Most of the show is better. Even the foundational idea of fungus that can communicate is way better and scarier.

This episode would have been better adapted directly from the game. None of the changes did anything special. Mainly the death scene of the 2 brothers, where in the game Henry's reaction is much more real and emotional
