My only actual gripe with the show is that there wasn't a scene where Joel was quickly swiping his hands over tables, collecting supplies or building shit out of his backpack
That would be boring to majority of viewers and they would have to dedicate run time to scavenging and building it up and being used, everyone just wants to see the drama not the details, shame really

The fact that they also hired a majority of the voice actors to play characters in the show is another plus in my book.
There was nothing stopping Joel from playing Joel the way Marlene played Marlene, the only one they needed was a new Ellie because her voice actor is like 33 now
agreed they perfectly not only recreated the game, but expanded on it really well.
Pedro did a fantastic job, I disagree. Troy is also a voice actor which is completely different from acting and they clearly were going for quality with their main cast. He did well in his small part though, he gets his flowers from me.

the fact they casted the voice actress for ellie to play as ellie's mom was a super good casting choice imo. the whole scene with her in the last episode was so intense and emotional too !! she did so well at conveying how a mother will do anything to protect their child. literally every actor / actress was perfect for their role

The infected part in episode 5 when hundreds of infected swarm from the ground like ants is one the most scariest & beautiful things in the show man it was worth every second they put so much effort into it and delivered in a spetacular way.
this was so much better than in the game. I’m glad they swapped out all of the random fps zombie moments for scenes with real impact.
It was pretty terrifying but the end of the episode was depressing. I love the rollercoaster of emotions in the series.
Yeah I feel like Charlie messed up not bringing up this episode.. I mean seriously. I have never seen a portrayal of zombies in a show or movie be more terrifying than what they did in that episode. The most terrifying zombies of all time is the last of us show zombies and world war z.. if we ever have an apocalypse and it’s these types of zombies.. we are fucked beyond belief.
Also they really hammered in the fact that these zombies are like almost a hive mind with a sort of sentience as it is a parasite. It’s goal is to protect it’s kind and spread as much as possible. Which is infinitely more terrifying.
And then there’s no more infected in the show got hella boring after

You could even see the subway tunnel at the beginning of that scene
@Lucas Williams it's obvious they were lacking budget at points, but what makes it disappointing is news sources stating they had more budget than Game of thrones...
My biggest complaint about the show is that they spent so much time setting up the infected in the first few episodes and even showing that if you kill one they all know where you are, but they literally never mention it again after episode 2.
Yes I thought that was foreshadowing for it going to happen in another episode and it never did. It was really interesting lore to add but they didn't do anything with it :/
Super valid; completely forgot about that mechanic, guess they only wanted it in one episode. Chekhov’s gun fired and tossed aside
On the other hand, imagine spending half an episode watching Joel spam “listening mode” and silent takedown🤣 shit would be dead
I think that's more an explanation of why infected aren't present as much in the show, if it were like the games where Joel and Ellie merced a lot of infected then that setup wouldn't need to happen. Instead, it makes more sense in the show if they just avoid infected entirely, because they're a hivemind now.
Joel wouldn't take any route that has infected. They would stay as far away from the horde as possible so it makes sense that they don't run into the infected, but hunters and bandits instead.
The cordyceps network is the show's version of spores. It explains how the cordyceps take over quickly. They are all connected and have their own sense of intelligence.
One thing I like about the infected is that even though I would have liked to see them more, they’re pretty effective every time we see them. There might be one time in the whole show that an encounter with the infected doesn’t lead to someone getting bitten or killed, so even if they aren’t around a ton, they do a decent job of showing how easily the infection spreads
I have to say I would of rather they spent money from eps 3 and 7 on zombies especially ep 7 as it was just not that good of an episode and watching a 14 and 18 year old develop a relationship is not my cup of tea, I get the story is focused on people but the limited amount of infected just in my opinion didn't feel good for the show at all as it felt as though they didn't have impact and the world was alot more empty. If they explored and flushed the infected out more this show would have been amazing but now that it's over and I'm not huffing copium the show is just decent
wonder how they survived so long if most get taken out by one or 2 infected
@Joshua Debosh one of my biggest problems with this show when any infected popped up the characters lost there shit Joel killed countless infected but when we see the first infected in the show he shoots them in the stomach with an ar15 instead of the head like he doesn't know how to end them

List goes on
Literally part 2 is SO easy to fix. ALL you have to do is characterise abby BEFORE she goes golfing (humor hiding real pain) if we can see it from her point of view BEFORE what happens happens we wont just TOTALLY hate her.
Exactly. I was hoping they include Abby's flashbacks in the first season, or at the very least at the start of the second season. Give people a chance to sympathize with Abby instead of making them decide right there and then to hate her forever.
Doubt it, Abby is an unlikable person, but even if the show made her likable, her friends are not likable by any means.
You totally missed the point lmao
i’m pretty sure the main message of tlou2 is how perspective and bias warps your opinion on people. you’re supposed to hate abby when she kills joel because someone that played as joel inherently feels connected to him and thinks he doesn’t deserve what he got, which i think can also be true considering he did what he did to save someone he loves but at the end of the day he still murdered a whole fucking hospital. all abby cares about is that he killed her dad so she is justified in getting revenge but ofc the player doesn’t realize this until the flashbacks. then at that point you may understand that abby really isn’t a worse person than joel (or ellie in part 2). what i’m saying is this creative choice was made for a reason and to completely change that would do the exact opposite of “fix” part 2. the problem isn’t the game it’s people choosing not to use basic media literacy skills 🚶🏾♀️
A character being likeable is not what makes them a good or bad character lmao
Personally I was a fan of how they had the original VA cast do cameos as side characters. Troy Baker was the cannibal that Ellie buried a butcher knife into. And the original VA for Ellie played Ellie's mom which is incredibly poetic
Abby's VA played one of the nurses in the finale, I believe Tommy's VA played a character in a quarantine zone, and Marlene returned as Marlene!
I am so in love with the decision to cast Ashley Johnson as Anna. Ashley has spoken about how deeply personal Ellie has been for her and how moved she is by the impact her portrayal has had. To give her the chance to play the character who literally births her into the world is amazing and heartwarming. "You fucking tell them, Ellie" is such a beautiful line in context.
When I was watching it I think i subconsciously recognized Ellie's VA, but I had no idea thats what she looked like. So i was like, "damn is this Ellie in the future coming home to Dina or something?" I just realized this no, it seems crazy

Pedro Pascal is not a golden Lion, but a Viper on stage.
He has the whole package as an actor. I love how he is able to play a deeply hurt, vulnerable and also extremely merciless man and at the same time a loving and caring one, which is insanely hard to do in a believable manner.
He is a red viper like his breakthrough character Oberyn Martell.
ahhh viper I see what you did there
I agree the penultimate episode was so climactic that the finale felt more rushed because there was less room for recovery and hope. I feel like if there was a whole episode dedicated to joel helping ellie recover from what she went through, as well as showing their trust grow, it would have made that decision joel made in the last episode to lie to her have a lot more impact.
It honestly would’ve been nice, but then again the game had also chosen to not show that as well. I think it was the interaction with Joel and Ellie about Sarah that helped grow within that area, as well as when Ellie was drowning that gave all the more reason for Joel to save her, especially when the last thing he saw from her was her drowning.
@@ItsDanbo when it comes to stuff like that, i do think that they should add more scenes between joel and ellie to make his decision more climactic. This is mainly cuz the show has the video game as reference but it doesnt mean it has to copy it fully. For example, sarah's death (imo) was more gut wrenching cuz of they added a whole breakfast scene and stuff.
It felt rushed because it was the shortest episode. We had an 1h15m episode yet we barely get 40 minutes on the finale? Okay sure...
@@carclain123 I mean the Utah section of tlou 1 isn’t very long either

what i liked about the amount of infected in the show is that it made them way scarier. every time they appeared someone died, so when we watched one appear we already knew something bad was going to happen.
which also made the story kinda predictable when infected came tbh
@@Luca-VA yeah when I see them I could basically predict who was going to die, 9/10 I was right
it kind of had a downside too, at least for me. when joel has too choose between a cure and ellie, the decision doesn't seem as crucial because it doesn't look like there are that many infected out in the world anyways.
Every time someone fought and infected it seems like they won just to realize they DID get bitten and just didn’t realize
@@valqzx1144 exactly, and I don't see a reason why they didn't show more scenes even like stealth scenes more in the show I mean like they have the budget for it AND a tv show is also there to entertain, not that 2 full episodes about gay love of mostly side characters were THAT entertaining so why not have more infected scenes ya know
With your Bill point I understand missing the direct interactions, I feel it was heavily implied how important their relationships were. Bill leaves everything to Joel, he wouldn’t have done that for someone he barely knew, also I feel the note was more implication, I think what they did, focusing on him and his partner, really built on the idea of its tragedy/romance/emotional. I really feel like they did that well even with the sacrifice of less interaction.
i think frank should have died with the raiders and then they could have kept bill alive and followed the joel-bill relationship as seen in the game.
I think Joel tactfully terrorizing the entire firefly campaign wasn't supposed to be shown as something cool or action heavy like John Wick, but rather a terrifying and terrible experience for the viewers where the protagonist slowly descended to a darker path for his own desires. This is when the whole narrative of "Love" gets a much darker dimension. And it also makes sense. Joel not only lied to Ellie about the entire incident, he also avoided the verbal confrontation with Merlin and killed her on the process. This is the type of scene that is supposed to be taken a moment to sit and think about, man.
I definitely had a similar gripe with the rushed ending, but for a slightly different reason. While the father daughter relationship had definitely been established at that point, I felt like it was kind speedran in this episode. It felt they could have taken one more episode to fully flesh it out.
agreed, or just an extra long last episode.
Or just add a short 10 min scene of fighting some infected, maybe kill a clicker and sneak pass some bloaters, and some backstory to those infected too like some notes, just to show that the world is still infecred just because you dont often see it.

And on top of that, getting Ellie's original VA to play as Anna was just a cherry on top of an already beautiful sundae
No that was dumb as hell. Not only did she fart out a baby in a second, the cordon was only attached for like 10 seconds after the bite. Though I think there should have been one ep before to further cement him and ellie because he was out of it for 2 eps
I loved how they did some scenes exactly the same, like down to every last word, yet also made huge sweeping changes that worked well like with bill and frank. It shows that Druckman wasn’t just respecting the original story, but that he respects the fans too and knew exactly how to portray these characters that he deeply loves and understands. I also LOVE that he did cameos with the original cast, clearly his love for the characters extends to them too and that felt like a heartwarming nod specifically for them and the original fans.
I didn’t finish season yet so idk if I’ll feel end was rushed like Charlie, but I saw clips of Joel executing people in hospital who are unarmed or surrendering and I got chills. I def think they did the character justice in those scenes as we see exactly who he was after Sarah. Joel was never the hero and I was afraid show would drift in that direction but I was dead wrong. I was absolutely blown away with this one, I had a whole one complaint and you already addressed it. There wasn't enough of the infected. By otherwise it was done so well and so emotionally investing.
Just spitballing here on that I feel like maybe they could have both fleshed out the ending and given us more infected by having the sequence under the bridge from the game serve as a flashback.
Just give us an episode of Joel and Ellie alone making that final push towards the hospital and having to work together in the way we see more often in the game.
The first season was fucking amazing. Really appreciated the team behind it and how it follows the story from the game.
the finale was definitely rushed i felt i was like “wait they are at the hospital already?” and i even checked the time and it said 15 minutes left
They literally went from,
“She’s being prepped for surgery” to “I don’t have time for this” to **Hospital shootout** to **saving Ellie** in like 5 minutes
they could've cut a LOT from other episodes instead of rushing the plot
When I saw 43 minute episode and they spent 15 on ellies mom I'm like yeah they're not even gonna take time to flesh out the doctor, and of course they didn't
Just like the game, they're magically going to make him important after the fact
You only get that feeling if you've played the game. Both characters had reached their emotional climaxes to serve the story at that point. Joel and Ellie have fully opened up to each other so theres no need for amy more interactions from a pacing perspective
I haven't played the game and I also felt the same about it. I felt like this was supposed to be the most hard hitting emotional scene in the show, but it didn't. Joel went on a killing spree, ellie is saved, they talk, and the show just ends and I was like whatever

@@Vaudiven hey man Pedro pascal nails the role everytime but he has no variety
I wish we could've seen a flashback to what life was like for Joel and Tommy in the 20 year period between outbreak and boston. Hopefully they explore something like that for season two.
Knowing how the HBO series went with some of its storytelling liberties, it wouldn't be out of character to add a scene like that in the show.
To see them kill a bunch of innocent people? Cause that’s all it would be💀
@pidaho They don’t need to further display that. We watched him blow her dads brains out💀
When I saw that intro for the last episode I thought it would focus more on flashbacks for the fireflies to give more conext about the hospital cause that’s something we didn’t get much at all until the second game
Agree 💯 about the ending. It was good but an extra episode to build it up would've made it much harder hitting.
I absolutely loved every minute of this show, there are some extremely talented people behind this project and I can’t wait for the next season.
@Don't Read My Profile Picture gtfo pls
I thought they rushed Ellie and Joels relationship which is the most important thing about the TLOU story. Like when I sit down and think about it, I feel like Ellie and Joel were not very fleshed out in their relationship, and this (for me) really devalues the emotional moments in the show where they try to show how much they’ve bonded. For example, the giraffe scene, post-david fight, etc. I think they either should've added 2-3 more episodes that are Joel and Ellie-Centered, or make episodes 3 & 7 into Joel and Ellie episodes.
One episode in particular felt completely unnecessary and like a waste of time personally. Could have skipped it and not missed a single beat on the show. Also all the plot holes (unrelated to the game) and common sense stupidity in the episode I'm talking about is just off the charts. Actually was angry watching it. Also why did they cast rose from two and a half men in the 4/5 episode? Did not feel like a good fit for a villain.
EDIT: EPISODE 4/5 are the episodes Melanie Lynskey were cast in
@@bknighty28 what episode in particular.
@@bknighty28 episode 3 ? Yeah sure, it is a filler. But a good one in my opinion
Pedro and Bella actually both broke the rules and experienced the game in some way. Pedro got a Playstation and watched his nephews play the game (because he couldn't figure out the controls), and Bella watched part of other people's playthroughs.

Great show. Agree with your points.
I think season 2 is going to be a lot harder to adapt into a TV show
I think the pacing of the finale was well done. It captured that dissociative blackout rage one would get from someone telling them they’re planning to murder someone they love. It wasn’t drawn out scenes of shootouts and Joel pleading with the fireflies. It was cold and Joel was on a mission to kill with 0 hesitation. There’s even a moment when he shakes his head and blinks as if he’s coming too from a blackout thinking “wait what did I just do”. Loved it.
I was watching with my wife and she was saying how over the top all the murder was for one person and I told her that's exactly the point of the game, the criticism it received and which it addressed in the second game.
I think Joel's spree was fine, but Charlie's right that there definitely could have been more leading up to it. It would have been nice to include the underground section and especially Joel desperately giving Ellie CPR as a nice little hint that everything around him ceases to matter when Ellie's in danger, and then we see the culmination of that in the quick, detached way he executed all the fireflies.
The hospital scene itself was very well done, the pacing issue comes from the fact that the entire Salt Lake City section is 20 minutes, they could have easily made it 2 episodes, adapt the underground section so we get more infected, maybe another bloater since they spent half a million dollars on the suit to use it for 30 seconds but just more Joel, Ellie, and some infected time really makes the hospital scene hit that much harder
i agree with this. i loved how they did it. BUT i do think charlie is right about that they should have had a longer episode leading UP to that part.
@@Dinckelburg Addressed is certainly one way to put it
I think one standout feature for me was that the episodes felt like actual EPISODES, as in they often felt like standalone stories. Some shows fall into the trap of essentially just being “pauses” and “plays” of the storyline. It makes the episodes so much more memorable, like the 1st, 3rd and 8th episodes.
But the problem is 8 should have been 2 episodes. That sequence in the game really helped build the trust between David and Ellie and seeing him for who he is makes the impact even harder
they did the game so much justice. actors, writing, cinematics... all incredible
This was the best show I've seen in a few years. First one that I watched weekly since The Walking Dead. Got a glass of wine every Sunday and tuned in to this amazing show.
Wine is disgusting it tastes like rotten clicker foot. Tf is wrong with you broh?
My favorite part was when Joel said, “it’s Joelin’ time” and Ellie followed up with, “what are we, some kind of the Last of Us?” and then walked onto the sunset
Mine was when Joel learned Ellie was to die and said “this can’t be The Last of Us” and Joeled everyone
So lemme get this straight
I'm seeing freaking zombies!
I can shoot shit with my freaking gun! Yeah, that is something I do now
The bar is really low for video game shows, but this was one of the Joel moments for sure
Damn this meme is so tired
This was never funny, but the 7 year olds will never let it die it seems
Bella Ramsey really grew on me this show like every single episode her acting felt like it was improving literally every episode she did phenomenal in but that last episode was probably her best episode and the best episode overall in the show
@Logan Floor I don’t care
@Logan Floor if you did, you wouldn't need to spam people's comments on HIS videos 😉
I think Ellie growing on you was intentional, I found Ellie kinda of annoying at first which I think was to highlight her age and as she travels with Joel she matures. I think it’s similar to how Ashoka was written for The Clone Wars. I could be wrong though.
She really did an amazing job. It was such a shame that she got a lot of hate for playing the role. Godspeed to whoever plays Abby tho
Yeah I remember bella was getting hated on for not looking like ellie from the game at first
Wait i didn't even realize the last episode was the finale, it really didn't feel like a finale
My fav part of tlou show is When joel says to the bloater “It’s lastin’ time”
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey nailed it. That is how you make a TV series after a game. Astonishing. Amazing.
Also the cameos for the game voice actors! Blew me away when I seen Ashley!
Bella Ramsey was not great imo, just all right. She even had some moments of horrible acting, like when she was in the truck with Joel and had to act waking up. Was a funny scene in the game, but was so poorly acted that I'm surprised it made it into the show. There was another moment like this but I can't remember.
Yeaaa Bella eventually grew on me but I don’t think she was the best choice for Ellie. Don’t get me wrong she did great and her acting is amazing so it did eventually grow on me. Pedro as Joel was kinda iffy at first but I think he did a great job as well. Both of their acting made up for not really coming off as Ellie and Joel to me.
@@thedarkknight221bella was amazing, what are you smoking
@@travihuncho I agree she is a great actor. But, Ellie got me much more attached much more quickly then this variation.
the duo seemed more natural to me then the new one.
Honestly, imagine if Joel wiping the fireflies was an entire dedicated episode. They could have made it so cool.
Nah that would've been terrible. Ut would be something like hobbit last movie
I would’ve enjoyed for there to be some push back from the soldiers. It really does feel video gamey if he just mows them down like in the show. They should have actually had a skirmish where Joel had to throw bricks and use his wits to fight them off
45 minutes of non stop combat would be pretty stupid.
@@onionman8160 may as well go watch a play through
They had to do it quick because that was realistic to the story, if he took an hour to kill them it might have been too late for him to save Ellie
I agree so much on needing another episode, or even a long special season ending, really doing both would have been great. Hopefully next season they stay on the same path/formula and have enough confidence to draw the seasons(definitely need 2 seasons for part 2) out longer without over saturating it into soap opera plotless filler.
if you guys ever come to canada to find the film locations some of the places they shot were in edmonton, canmore, calgary, and kananaskis :) edmonton and calgary are the more metropolitan areas, whereas canmore and kananaskis are closer to the mountains, and are worth visiting especially if you love winter sports! :DD
I actually fully agree with your points. I think having the video game production involved in the show production really helped. It was icing on top to have Ashley Johnson play Ellie’s mom in the show - it was SO poetic and added such a depth to the already incredibly emotional scene of her death in the final episode. I think the best part is that you didn’t have to play the game to enjoy and understand the show, but playing the game added to the experience.
All the actors and actresses crushed it. I agree, one more episode to space things out would have been nice, but this was still fantastic.
Also Pedro Pascal going sicko mode was cool as hell.
I haven't watched the last episode yet but I'm surprised there are only 9...at the end of 8 I just feel like there's so much more that needs to happen before we reach the conclusion at the hospital.
Especially considering episode 9 is apparently the shortest episode of the whole season.
Those last two episodes were the greatest pleasure to watch that I have had in years! What a show.
lol wow... Dude... You need to get out more if that was the greatest pleasure. It was pretty good but there is much better out there...

I really like how much of a threat the zombies feel in this show. I love how much of a threat the normal infected felt and clickers felt even more terrifying than when I fought them in the games and the bloater was an absolute NIGHTMARE. Even tho they weren't around sometimes whenever they were they felt like an unstoppable force you couldn't just fight your way through them.
They’re hardly a threat lol, you rarely even see them
@@psyb0rgz447 The show went about it by making them infrequent but insanely powerful, instead of being everywhere and easy to deal with.
@@psyb0rgz447 The fact that no one in the show is superhuman like in the games makes it impossible to even survive one infected, let alone a horde of them. Every time we see infected in the show someone ends up dying, which is realistic bc they full-on sprint at you and rip you apart, which shows how unrealistic it would be for Joel and Ellie to have to deal with them on their own in multiple episodes without one of them dying.
@@psyb0rgz447 just coz you don't see them frequently doesn't it's not a threat.
yeah the last of us zombies are probably the scariest and most dangerous if we are talking about the live action shows i really wish they showed more infected like Charlie mentioned and they should of made that scene where Joel shoots infected upside down when he got trapped .... but in games there are lot of crazy zombies, to me the most scary were the volatiles from dying light tho
Im shocked how well they did LOU. It made me start playing it again!
In regards to the finale, I feel like the reason they didn't explore the hospital much is to save alot of that for season 2 with flashbacks. Agreed it would've been nicer if they allowed more time for the finale, but I understand why they streamlined the hospital section
My parents have been watching the show and have been loving it so far. They said their favorite episode was episode three which focused on Bill and Frank
It's a great episode, no doubt. But Joel slaughtering everyone is the best part for me. It shows the horrors of unconditional love, which is the thesis of the story.
I've got my minor gripes and nitpicks, but overall the show is amazing. The cinematography, music, and especially the acting were all incredible. If Bella and Pedro don't win awards for this show it'll be a crime
However nearly all the dialogue in the show they took from the game had rather flat delivery from both Pedro and Bella
@@sds187i don't think that's true
Bella knocked it out of the park especially for me
@@sds187 I love the way Bella delivers her lines. Only on episode 2 but loved how she delivered the lines when she was being interrogated and chained in a room. She felt like a realistic teen representation.
No she didn’t
Everything worked out fantastically and I definitely think having the director and codirector of the game work so closely together was definitely a main factor in that
If there’s one thing I can always agree with Charlie on it’s the utter perfection that is the narrative of the the first last of us. I couldn’t agree more that that intro sequence is one of the best if not the best in all of gaming.
This show is a good lesson for future adaptations and that's just to not change what is already perfect. I'm glad they used the same music, and it also helps that they got Neil Druckmann to work on it too. Amazing show.
This and Sandman have proven fans want things that are honest to the original concept with the writer being a huge influence as to any changes being made.
Fuck no lmao this wasn't perfect, it's great but it didn't really flesh out the father daughter relationship that well with a lot of it ramping up exponentially in the last episode and the line where Joel said it wasn't time that did it was pretty ham fisted.
The intro was EASILY the best part of the show tho especially with the forsehadowing of the neighbours, the glimpses into Sarah's character and the death scene. TLOU should've fleshed out the smaller back stories more, the Bill episode was decent but filling in more of the in between moments with Joel's descent and relationship with his brother would've been good.
@@Blueline3691 hyperbole bro. I'm aware it's not perfect, but they kept the same themes and concepts from the game and didn't try to make it something else entirely.
@@him5698 yeah I agree, in the grand scheme of things it's good for video game adaptations (although this was one of the easier ones) but there were a lot of missed opportunities for character development and world building which could've elevated it e.g. more stuff like the first episode.
I recommend watching 'the making of' episode. The extent they went in making EVERYTHING was just phenomenal. They spent a lot of money, and it shows.
When the 8th episode came out i really thought there would be 2 more episodes with how much ground they needed to cover. Glad to hear im not crazy for thinking number 9 felt a little crammed. Otherwise though excellent. Also pedro rocks in everything hes in.
the joel and punisher comparison im so happy someone saw it too, in daredevil(show not comics) the scene when the punisher goes through the hospital shooting such similar vibes to the joel scene, I've been mentioning the similarity since i saw the daredevil episode when it aired
I hope they translate more video game stories into shows as well as this. My mother understood why I played so many games like this when I told her that the game follows the exact same story as the series. I just hope their success carries over to season 2 and they aren't blinded by fortune or greed.
agreed this was perfect and i'm even hopeful they can salvage part 2 in season 2 of the show.
it won't lmao.
I think people with no prior exposure to the original source material unanimously loved this show. At least my family/friends who I watched it with fell in love with this show.
I agree with you my relatives seemed to like it and my sister was even watched the games
i can't relate. everyone i know who didnt play the game thought the pacing was off and there was a lot that was just unexplained.
Just judging the show at was it is : I don’t buy into Ellie’s and Joel’s relationship… he went from being cold and unresponsive to her - to calling her “baby girl” and cracking jokes in one episode.. if it was my first time seeing this story - Joel’s decision wouldn’t be as striking or have the weight it intended.. as opposed to the game.
Yes! I've never played the game and I loved the show
I tried watching it with my family. They liked it, but I was just straight upset that it was so shit compared to the game, and it was annoying them so I had to drop out after ep 3 set the dumpster on fire
i think the delivery/execution of the whole thing was really good considering they had 9 episodes to cover a game that was extremely rich in its story and environment. so glad that they did this show justice but this part 2 is gonna be a rollercoaster lol
I loved this show...ive played the games through like 5 or 6 times and I thought they did a brilliant job adapting the game to TV...although I do think it could've had a bit more action. Looking forward to the next season and since the 2nd game I'd basically about revenge and the cycle of violence I'm expecting it to be pretty brutal
One of the best experiences i've had watching a show was seeing the live action version be so ridiculously faithful to the intro, gave me chills
I agree on the last episode, I was showing my non-gamer wife the show for the first time and was excited to see her reaction to the reveal at the end. Wish they could have made the ending more dramatic because it didn't have a massive impact for her.
They did change things to make it more dramatic in previous episodes, like the Sam and Henry episode where instead of dying alone in another room Sam tells Ellie he is bit and it just makes for a much more emotional moment.
But overall, it was a sick 1st season
They definitely couldve made the first game into multiple season and explore the world and character far better, but still one of the best live action adaptations
It's a fantastic show. I can't go over how good it is.
this season was absolutely beautiful and enjoyable I just really wish the final didn’t feel so rushed but I still found it very enjoyable to watch
I'm honestly happy I have not played the game yet with how amazing this series was, so excited to to try it out now
One of the first things you learn as an actor is the importance of authenticity and to not fall into ticks or stagey traps that copy or mimic someone else’s performance. Regardless of how much you think you will be able to separate yourself from what came before (like in theater for example) invariably you will accidentally copy what you’ve seen. Having your actors not play the game allows them to give genuine performances born out of the material and script as opposed to subconsciously imitating what came before. The key is having a showrunner that HAS played the game & writers that understand the material enough to illicit the best performances from the cast. It also helps to have the actual game creator on board instead of just taking an IP and shitting all over it because you think you know better than the thousands of creators & devs that birthed the game years prior. If you have any doubt that not playing the source material didn’t matter just look at the subtle differences in Pedro & Bellas performance in key moments like the end where she makes him swear he’s telling the truth. In the game it feels like Ellie wants desperately to believe him where in the show Bellas Ellie clearly doesn’t believe him as you see a hint of doubt creep over her face. That moment alone demonstrates why it’s good to not engage with the source material if they hadn’t already before shooting.
I agree with you on everything, but especially I feel like they rushed the final episode unfortunately and could’ve worked with an extra episode to build it up because that shootout scene felt way too fast.
A very good show in my opinion. There were a few slower episodes but the other episodes were so good they probably just made them look bad. I can’t see how someone would dislike a show like this. Probably one of my favourite recent made shows
I can see why someone would dislike a show like this since it is incredibly slow but I really liked it

It was fine.. honestly felt like they were adapting the cutscenes in a weird way.. the gameplay itself was a huge part of what made Joel and Ellie likeable.. example being the infected invading the cabin with David.
It's boring kinda because they wasted a whole episode on bill and franks relationship which has no impact on the overall stoey because you never see bill again and also they wasted time with background on how Joel met bill other than that episode the show was pretty good just boring
